  • Marvel Studios Shifts Release Dates for Next Two ‘Avengers’ Movies

Marvel Studios Shifts Release Dates for Next Two ‘Avengers’ Movies

On Thursday evening, Marvel Studios announced that the next two Avengers movies have been delayed. Avengers: Doomsday, which is currently in production, was initially meant to be released on May 1, 2026. Instead, the movie will now open on December 18, 2026. While Avengers: Secret Wars has been delayed to December 17, 2027 from its original release date of May 7, 2027.

While it isn’t entirely clear why the films were moved, it’s suspected that the delay is to help production. Both Doomsday and Secret Wars are huge production for Marvel Studios, and the move comes as the studio is keen on putting its focus back on quality over quantity. Thunderbolts*, which was well received among critics and fans alike, is the first step in the right direction for the Marvel Cinematic Universe after suffering a few recent missteps. Previously, Marvel Studios has often scheduled releases a year out from the start of production, leaving little room for era both with the production and visual effects. The slight delays should prove beneficial for both titles, especially given the large cast expected in both films.

Joe and Anthony Russo, the directing duo behind some of Marvel Studios’ biggest hits, return to helm the next two Avengers installments. Production kicked off on Doomsday back in April, following Marvel Studios’ cast reveal via use of set chairs. While Marvel Studios has yet to unveil any official footage from the film, it was revealed that the first official look at Robert Downey Jr. as Doom was unveiled during the recent Disney Blockbuster Consumer Products show.

  • ‘Wonder Man’ Set for a December Release

‘Wonder Man’ Set for a December Release

Marvel Studios unveiled its first official look at Wonder Man during its portion of the Disney upfronts on Tuesday. While the studio has been rather quiet regarding the series, which stars Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Ben Kingsley, it did confirm the series will debut on Disney+ sometime in December. The studio also confirmed that the series will consist of eight 30-minute episodes.

Brad Winderbaum, Marvel’s head of television and animation, revealed that the studio is looking to take a tighter approach with its Disney+ offerings. The goal for the studio is to focus on shows that have the possibility of having multiple seasons. Per Winderbaum, Marvel is looking to release two live-action shows a year, along with two animated shows a year. This year, Ironheart and Wonder Man will serve as the show’s live-action titles, with the former releasing next month and the latter debuting later this year. As for whether or not the shows will have multiple seasons, they’re being developed with multiple seasons in mind. However, it ultimately depends on how they perform before the studio confirms multiple seasons of either title.

As of now, an official release date for Wonder Man has not been released. That should, hopefully, change as it nears closer to the end of the year.

  • Krysten Ritter Joins Season 2 of ‘Daredevil: Born Again’

Krysten Ritter Joins Season 2 of ‘Daredevil: Born Again’

It’s official. Krysten Ritter is set to reprise her role as Jessica Jones in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2. The news was revealed during Marvel Studios’ portion of Disney’s upfront presentation to advertisers Tuesday. Ritter, of course, played the roles of Jones in three seasons of Jessica Jones on Netflix, and also appeared in the limited series, The Defenders. Since it was announced that Marvel Studios was looking to bring back other Defenders following the return of Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock/Daredevil – and later Jon Bernthal as The Punisher – fans have been hopeful Ritter’s return would soon follow.

As for whether or not Ritter’s return will open up doors for her other Defenders – Mike Colter‘s Luke Cage and Finn Jones‘ Iron Fist – it’s currently unclear. Brad Winderbaum, Marvel Studios’ head of television and animation, noted that it was more about telling the best possible story rather than trying to fit in more characters simply for the sake of it.

“It’s about not rushing and telling the best story. Yes, it’s exciting to think about characters interacting, but it’s about the reasons why. At times we’ve done that very well, at times we’ve rushed. The story has to lead the path.”

While it’s currently unknown how many episodes Ritter’s Jones will appear in, it seems likely she’ll have a decent sized role. After all, she’s one of the allies Cox’s Daredevil will reach out to following the events of Season 1 of Daredevil: Born Again in hopes of fighting back against Fisk.

  • Jake Schreier to Direct X-Men Movie for Marvel

Jake Schreier to Direct X-Men Movie for Marvel

Marvel Studios has set a familiar director to helm its forthcoming X-Men movie. Deadline announced on Thursday that Thunderbolts* director, Jake Schreier, is in talks to direct the upcoming X-Men movie for Marvel Studios. This comes after Thunderbolts* has been received well among both fans and critics alike. Talks appear to be early still, however, Schreier met with Marvel Studios last week regarding the project and appears to be the frontrunner for the movie. Should he officially sign on, he would be directing the movie from a script by Michael Lesslie.

Per Deadline, Marvel has been keen to find the right director for its first X-Men movie, as the studio doesn’t want to rush the project. The studio has reportedly been meeting with potential directors for months, however, it was the positive response to Thunderbolts* that truly made Schreier stand out as the top choice. Schreier is said to be a big fan of the X-Men comics, and that made him stand out further, as the studio had successfully launched Thunderbolts* with the in-demand director. With Schreier said to be turning down potential directing gigs, it seems likely he’ll officially sign on for X-Men. For now, fans can at least be excited knowing the studio is moving ahead with its first X-Men movie.

As of now, the only other X-Men movie said to be in development at Marvel Studios is an X-Men and Deadpool movie from Deadpool star, Ryan Reynolds. That project, however, is not guaranteed to come to fruition and is simply in development as of now.

  • ‘Star Wars: Starfighter’ Confirmed to Star Ryan Gosling

‘Star Wars: Starfighter’ Confirmed to Star Ryan Gosling

It’s official. Months after rumors suggested Ryan Gosling was set to head to a galaxy far, far away, Lucasfilm confirmed the actor has joined the Star Wars franchise during Star Wars Celebration Japan. The news was revealed by director Shawn Levy, who brought the actor out to confirm his casting. The duo then revealed his previously untitled Star Wars movie had finally received a title: Star Wars: Starfighter. The movie is set to enter production this Fall for a 2027 release date.

While there is still a fair amount of secrecy surrounding the project, Levy and Lucasfilm did confirm that Starfighter will take place approximately five years after the events of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. As for Gosling, the actor will play a brand-new character yet to be unveiled by the studio.

Along with confirming Gosling will star in Levy’s forthcoming Star Wars movie, Lucasfilm also revealed that Star Wars projects from Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, James Mangold, Taika Waititi and a new trilogy by Simon Kinberg remain in development. Obaid-Chinoy, of course, is set to direct a new Star Wars movie starring Daisy Ridley‘s Rey, while Mangold’s Star Wars film is expected to be a prequel to Star Wars: Dawn of the Jedi.

Star Wars: Starfighter will fly into theaters on May 28, 2027.

  • ‘Pacific Rim’ Live-Action Series Set at Amazon

‘Pacific Rim’ Live-Action Series Set at Amazon

Amazon is looking to turn Pacific Rim into its next big television series. Variety announced on Thursday that Amazon’s MGM Studios has teamed up with Legendary Television to develop a live action Pacific Rim series for the small screen. The news comes after it was revealed last year that the project was previously in development at Legendary. Amazon has hired Eric Heisserer to serve as the writer and executive producer; he will develop the project under his Chronology production banner.

Heisserer is coming off the Netflix series, Shadow & Bone, where he served as the writer, executive producer, and showrunner of the series based on the Grishaverse novels by bestselling author Leigh Bardugo. Along with Shadow & Bone, Heisserer previously penned the hit Netflix series, Bird Box, as well as titles including the 2010 remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street and Lights Out.

The first Pacific Rim movie was released in 2013 and hailed from Guillermo del Toro, who also penned the film alongside Travis Beacham. The movie, which focused on a war between human-operated Jaegers and Kaujus that managed to break into our world and attack humanity, only earned $411 million worldwide. However, it would go on to spawn a sequel with 2018’s Pacific Rim: Uprising, a Netflix animated series with Pacific Rim: The Black, and comic books, novels, and more.

  • Finn Jones Wants Another Chance at Iron Fist

Finn Jones Wants Another Chance at Iron Fist

When Daredevil first debuted on Netflix a decade ago, the series proved to be a promising start for the streaming service’s planned Defenders universe. Jessica Jones and Luke Cage would follow soon after, delivering solid storytelling and fantastic casting that had pleased many fans. Then there was Iron Fist. After it was revealed that Finn Jones, who at the time was best known for his work on Game of Thrones, fans were a bit skeptical, having voiced their concerns over Jones and the depiction of Danny Rand on the small screen. Despite the understandable discourse surrounding Jones’ casting, the actor starred as Iron Fist for two seasons, while also appearing in The Defenders alongside Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and Luke Cage. Sadly, though, the character has yet to reappear within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Now that Charlie Cox and Jon Bernthal have reprised their roles as Daredevil and Punisher, respectively, fans are ready to see the rest of the Defenders make their way into the Marvel Cinematic Universe proper. Rumors have already circulated that Krysten Ritter will reprise her role as Jessica Jones, and Mike Colter has expressed mixed feelings in returning as Luke Cage, although he has suggested talks haven’t occurred — at least yet. One actor who hasn’t been brought up much, though, is Finn Jones.

During an appearance at the LaConve anime convention in Mexico, Jones expressed his interest in returning as Iron Fist, stating “I’m very aware of the critiques of the character and my role in it. My response to that is like, give me a fucking chance, man. I’m here and I’m ready. I want to prove people wrong. So I would love to see that happen.”

Marvel Studios’ streaming and TV boss Brad Winderbaum has previously suggested that the rest of the Defenders could very well be brought into the Marvel Cinematic Universe following Charlie Cox‘s return as Daredevil. In fact, Winderbaum suggested the studio was actively exploring the possibilities of such and has gone on to express excitement over getting to play in that sandbox that was once off limits due to the contract with Netflix. Rumors have previously suggested Marvel Studios intended to bring back Ritter and Colter, but that the return of Jones was unlikely. For now, fans will have to wait and see what happens with Iron Fist in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but it’s clear Jones is eager to jump back into the role of Rand should he ever get the call.

  • Nathan Fillion Has Joined the Cast of ‘Lanterns’

Nathan Fillion Has Joined the Cast of ‘Lanterns’

Nathan Fillion has officially joined the cast of HBO’s Lanterns. The actor, who is set to portray Guy Gardner in this Summer’s Superman, will reprise his role in the HBO series. The news was reported on Monday afternoon, with Deadline suggesting the actor has, perhaps unsurprisingly, long been attached to the project for some time. Fillion is no stranger to Gardner, having voiced the character in numerous animated projects for DC, including Green Lantern: Emerald Knight and Reign of Superman.

HBO’s Lanterns series, which is inspired by DC Comics’ characters, focuses on Hal Jordan and John Stewart, two intergalactic cops who ultimately find themselves drawn into a dark, Earth-based mystery as they investigate a murder in the American heartland. Lanterns will consist of eight-episodes, and hails from Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof and comics writer, Tom King. Mundy, who is the showrunner, co-wrote the series with Lindelof and King. All three will serve as executive producers on the project.

Episodes of Lanterns are confirmed to be directed by James Hawes, Stephen Williams, Geeta Vasant Patel, and Alik Sakharov. As of right now, the series does not yet have a release date announced.

  • Book Review: ‘The Fireborne Blade’ by Charlotte Bond

Book Review: ‘The Fireborne Blade’ by Charlotte Bond

The Fireborne Blade by Charlotte Bond

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

When it came to The Fireborne Blade, I had no idea what to expect. I’ve never read anything by Charlotte Bond previously, and it’s very hit-or-miss with me when it comes to dragon books. However, The Fireborne Blade manages to pack a hell of a punch in such a small package, it’s safe to say Bond is now on my list of writers to follow going forward.

The Fireborne Blade follows a Knight named Maddileh. Eager to right herself as a Knight, following a regretful personal relationship, Maddileh goes out in search of the Fireborne Blade. The legendary weapon is a tale among her people, and she believes if she manages to successfully find it, she’ll be hailed a hero, and her name will be restored once again. Simple enough, except securing the blade will set Maddileh on a journey full of danger and secrecy, one that seems all but certain to end in death.

The book itself is merely one-hundred and sixty-four pages. As far as fantasies go, that’s on the shorter end. And yet, what Bond manages to achieve within such a short page count is incredibly impressive. Not only does Bond craft an intriguing story with characters such as Maddileh, Petros and Saralene; Bond also manages to create fascinating backstories that help to push their journey along. Not exactly an easy task to do with a novella, and yet, The Fireborne Blade proves it is possible.

Yes, the book is about dragons. Yes, there’s plenty of dragon lore. And yet, The Fireborne Blade is far from just another dragon book. The amount of character development that Maddileh goes through over the course of the book is top-notch. The character initially comes off as very standoffish; unwilling to confide in anyone. Then, by the end of the book, we see Maddileh showcase a softer side, one that perhaps isn’t as cold-hearted as she tries to let on.

All in all, The Fireborne Blade is the perfect little bite of fantasy for those looking for an introduction to the genre. It’s short. It’s action-packed. But more importantly, along with impressive fantasy work, The Fireborne Blade is a wonderful character-driven story. Give it a read when it releases in May.
