  • RUMOR: ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’s Reshoots Heading to Puerto Rico

RUMOR: ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’s Reshoots Heading to Puerto Rico

It hasn’t been an easy production for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, as they were forced to wrap up early due to Letitia Wright getting injured on set. They did start production on reshoots some time ago, which were eyeing a March wrap-up but it seems they have added a new production location according to One Take News.

In their latest article, they shared that the upcoming film is ending their work in Atlanta and then heading to Puerto Rico in the near future. They highlight that the location will be used as a backdrop for Haiti, but no further details. It is curious they are adding a new location this late into the production, but if they weren’t able to return to Haiti.

With the rumors surrounding Namor becoming a primary addition in the upcoming sequel, the location would seem fitting as a location that has ties to the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s take on Atlantis. We don’t know how they might tackle the mystical sunken city, perhaps it is not underwater but hidden from the world. The addition of this late into production might also be an indication of this being used for a post-credit sequence potentially.

We won’t know for sure until Black Panther: Wakanda Forever releases later this year. The film is still eyeing a November production start, but the longer reproduction drags out, the more it seems like that’ll be unlikely. Hopefully, it doesn’t rush the post-production but they may have used the time in between reshoots to cover the loss of time.

  • James Mangold’s ‘Indiana Jones 5’ Has Wrapped Production

James Mangold’s ‘Indiana Jones 5’ Has Wrapped Production

The production on the fifth entry of Indiana Jones has seemingly wrapped production, as producer Frank Marshall took to Twitter to share a picture of the production hat that includes the iconic nickname “Indy” with the announcement that they’ve finished work on the project. You can check out the tweet right here:

The last time we’ve heard from the production was back in October when set photos from Sicily found their way online. They offered our first look at Mads Mikkelsen, who is rumored to be playing the film’s primary antagonist. It’s still unclear who he might play or how the story builds upon the fourth entry, but it does seem like we are returning to the franchise with a strong focus on the character that made it so iconic, as James Mangold takes over directing duties from Steven Spielberg.

Harrison Ford, of course, is also returning in the picnic role, as he continues to keep ancient treasures out of the hands of the wrong people while battling with his age. There is no word that the film will carry over the storyline set up in the fourth entry, as Crystal Skull introduced his son, played by Shia LeBeouf. For now, it seems like the upcoming film might be a final send-off to the iconic character.

  • REVIEW: ‘Batman Forever’ is Still the Horniest Bat-Film

REVIEW: ‘Batman Forever’ is Still the Horniest Bat-Film

Of the countless adaptations to come out of the Batman mythos, Batman Forever has always been the hardest one to pin down. The film, released to financial success and critical failure in 1995, never really managed to obtain a solid identity. While Tim Burton‘s prior films were clear in their aspirations of a darker tone, and franchise follow-up Batman & Robin was infamously committed to being a real-life cartoon, Joel Schumacher‘s first venture into superhero movie making was a little less defined.

As a result, the movie has become somewhat of a “forgotten installment” in Batman’s cinematic history. Not as silly as its sequel, but still a far cry from the graphic material of its predecessors. It’s likely that this is the reason many have failed to remember the crowning achievement of Forever, rising to claim a title that has yet to be truly challenged. It can be argued that the film does indeed have an identity and one that makes it very special. To this day, there has never been a hornier Batman movie.

Yes, I have seen Batman Returns. I am very aware of the tension Michelle Pfeiffer brought to the table and the sparkling chemistry she shared with Michael Keaton‘s Bruce Wayne. Trust me when I say, after back-to-back viewings of both films, that Forever earns this honor just a little bit more. Before I get to dive into why it should be clarified that I actually think Val Kilmer‘s one-and-only romp in the Bat-suit is an all-around much better film than it gets credit for.

It seems audiences found it fairly easy to dismiss the project when it came on the heels of the excellent Burton installments, flagging it as a waste of time and moving on rather quickly. However, this ousting does not take into consideration any of the reasons the movie is how it is. After the wildly adult themes and imagery of Returns, Warner Bros. wanted a threequel a little closer in tone to the campy adventures of Adam West‘s Caped Crusader and a little further in tone from the Creepshow vibes of Danny DeVito‘s child-murdering, potato-sack wearing Penguin. Conflictingly, the studio also still wanted the movie to be in line with the world established by the previous entries.

Honestly, with these goals in mind, Schumacher no sort of nails it. Forever is the perfect mix between West and Burton, with goofy surrealistic villains and over-the-top character archetypes stirred into the established pot of gothic neon gravitas brewed by the first two films. Despite Chris O’Donnell’s Dick Grayson mostly being the worst character on screen at all times, his scenes with Kilmer surprisingly make for some of the more earnest Bruce Wayne content caught on camera.

Though often a bit on the nose, Forever takes its look into the psyche of Wayne seriously, giving fans both sides of his coin in equal measure. Speaking of which, Tommy Lee Jones‘ Two-Face and Jim Carrey‘s Riddler are maybe better antagonists than you remember. They’re not really threatening, and both are basically just new skins for the Joker, but it is immensely comical to watch them chew up screen time. The laughs don’t always come when the script might have intended, but they will come.

The emotional crux of the film is where we re-enter horny territory. Again, this is a movie that hopes to explore the duality of Bruce Wayne and the Bat. The title itself comes from a line in the film in which Wayne declares that he’s accepted his demons and chosen to be “Batman forever“. It’s just the way the story decides it will demonstrate this is questionable at best, or not to be questioned at all, depending on your configuration.

Bruce is forced to confront the longevity of his double life when he meets Dr. Chase Meridian, played by AMC spokesperson Nicole Kidman, and realizes how badly he wants to get laid. The problem is that, while Dr. Meridian also wants this, she is far more interested in the mystique of Batman than any amount of charm or money Wayne can throw at her. What comes of this is an enthralling cat-and-mouse game of two people with deeply rooted psychological issues and massive libidos. I’m no professional, and I can’t diagnose why this is true, but something about this conflict is far raunchier than anything Batman and Catwoman are able to muster up in the preceding entry.

Literally every single scene Kidman is in, features her trying to seduce Batman, or to a lesser extent, Bruce Wayne. All of them except for when she becomes a damsel in distress; an unfortunate consequence of being a movie made anytime prior to the last five years. It doesn’t stop there, either, as several of the other characters get in on the fun before credits roll. A not-so-keen eye will notice that Carrey wears tighter clothing each time he’s on the screen. He also becomes less aware of personal space and a lot more mindful of how attractive everyone else is, something he comments on frequently.

This is another spot where I should stop and remind the reader that I do not think this is a bad attribute. In fact, it feels pretty at home in the context of the vibe. Even the typically staunch Jones has populated his elaborate lair with sexual energy. Although the moral ramifications of his keeping two mistresses, each scantily dressed to represent one side of his personality, probably should be debated. I digress, it furthers my point.

Batman Forever just captures certain erotic magic that no other comic book film has come close to matching. Both the title character and his youthful sidekick are adorned in stiff costumes, with chiseled abs and nipples added for flavor. It’s worth noting the latter detail would be more questionable if the teenager wasn’t played by a 25-year-old man. Batman & Robin tries to bring the energy back with Uma Thurman’s Poison Ivy, but a lack of chemistry or wanton desire prevents any attempt from hitting home. Matt Reeves’ The Batman is making a strong case for itself as a contender, with certified heartthrobs Robert Pattinson and Zoe Kravitz producing steam through the screen, but it remains to be seen if they can conquer the mountain ahead of them. At the very least, until March 4th, Kilmer will remain the most indisputably aroused Batman.

  • Shareholders Sue to Block Activision’s Sale to Microsoft

Shareholders Sue to Block Activision’s Sale to Microsoft

Two lawsuits have been filed to stop the sale of Activision‘s sale to Microsoft.

A new report from The Hollywood Reporter states shareholders have filed lawsuits against the sale, alleging the deal will benefit Activision insiders to the detriment of ordinary investors. The two lawsuits were filed on Thursday in California and New York federal court, with both questioning whether the company’s board of directors have a conflict of interest in securing approval of the deal because of “Activision’s disclosures to the Securities and Exchange Commission detailing the transaction.”

The suit states that the process by the Individual Defendants was “flawed” and “inadequate.” It goes on to suggest the process was conducted with the interest of the Individual Defendants with the hopes of “effectuating a sale of the Company by any means possible.”

In a statement released to the press, Activision said it was looking forward to presenting its case in court. “We disagree with the allegations made in this complaint and look forward to presenting our arguments to the Court.”

The shareholders also allege in the lawsuits that Activision insiders have a conflict of interest. This is because its said that Activision negotiated large portions of company stock, options and other equity — this is, of course, an issue as they become viable upon a deal’s approval. In the lawsuit, the shareholders also call out the “golden parachute packages” for the senior management. It’s said that those packages entitle Bobby Kotick to a $14.6 million payout, as well as $25.4 million to chief financial officer Armin Zerza and $29.1 million to chief operating officer Daniel Alegre should they be terminated “under certain circumstances.”

As it stands, it’s very normal for these types of lawsuits to occur during a major merger such as this one. The lawsuits will temporarily halt the deal and require Activision to reveal more details about the transaction. Should the acquisition move forward, it would make Microsoft the leader in cloud-based gaming services.

  • ‘Ironheart’ Adds ‘This is Us’ Lyric Ross

‘Ironheart’ Adds ‘This is Us’ Lyric Ross

The casting is well underway for the upcoming Ironheart Disney+ series, as The Hollywood Reporter has just reported that Lyric Ross, who has made a name for herself in the NBC series This is Us, has joined the project starring Dominique Throne as Riri Williams. The actress will join as Williams’ best friend but no further details were offered on her role.

Snowpiercers’ staff writer Chinaka Hodge took on the role of head writer for the project, which is eyeing a June production start. Not much is known about the series outside of it following some elements from her comic origin as a genius teenage inventor who ends up creating a new Iron Man suit in her MIT dorm. The character is quite a new addition to Marvel Comics, as she was first introduced by Brian Michael Bendis and artist Mike Deodato in 2016.

Riri Williams will make an appearance ahead of her show’s debut, as she’s set to have a role in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. It is unsure just how much of that story might help set up the series and if it might even mean some characters might reappear there. Anthony Ramos recently joined the project in a role that might have bigger implications for the franchise moving forward. THR does hint that he could be playing the show’s villain. So, we’ll see what exactly Ironheart has in store for us.

  • Kirsten Dunst Says “There’s Still Time” on a Return as Mary Jane in a Future Marvel Film

Kirsten Dunst Says “There’s Still Time” on a Return as Mary Jane in a Future Marvel Film

Spider-Man: No Way Home was filled to the brim with iconic characters from Spider-Man‘s cinematic history. Still, one film can’t cover every single character that was ever cast in a Spidey-related role. Even early on, there were many theories that Emma Stone and Kirsten Dunst would make their return, but that didn’t end up happening. Yet, in an interview with Deadline, Dunst was asked if she was interested to return and she had the following to say:

    There’s still time.

    Kirsten Dunst

Of course, anyone would take that information and feel like she might be teasing an eventual return. We still have Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness on the horizon. LEGO set even may have hinted at Spider-Man reappearing in the film, but she goes on to highlight that “no one asked” her about returning. Her full quote is as follows:

I mean, listen, no one asked me about a thing. I do think, I mean this multiverse thing keeps going on and on. I feel like that could happen.

    Kirsten Dunst

We have theorized that the multiverse may be ending earlier than later, but she makes a good point. Who knows when or who might appear at some point in the MCU’s upcoming multiversal expansion. We’ll see if she might join at one point, but she certainly is open to returning. Perhaps she and Tobey Maguire‘s Peter Parker get the reunion they’ve long desired. Marvel Studios certainly is having fun bringing some nostalgia into their upcoming projects and it would seem like a nice touch after he mentioned that they were somehow making it work when he returned in No Way Home.

  • Nicholas Hoult’s ‘Renfield’ to Release in 2023

Nicholas Hoult’s ‘Renfield’ to Release in 2023

While the title of Universal’s film Renfield seems like it’ll explore the dramatic or comedic life of a character with the same name, it’s actually a unique take on the classic Dracula storyline. The character is actually his henchman (Nicholas Hoult), which offers a comedic look at his story serving under Dracula’s watchful eyes. Nicholas Cage is taking on the role of the classic vampire, as the story takes place in the modern-day, as Renfield tries to find a way to detach himself from his master.

As the film was mostly focused on casting its main cast, we’ve only now gotten a release date for the project. Universal has decided that April 14th, 2023 is the perfect time to bring Dracula back to theaters. The film will be directed by Chris McKay, who just recently worked on The Tomorrow War for Amazon and working on a script based on an idea by Robert Kirkman, who many know for his work on The Walking Dead. However, he’s not writing the script as Ryan Ridley of Rick and Morty fame is tackling that role.

The film is taking inspiration from the 1897 novel by Bram Stoker, but the new setting will definitely tell an original story. Thought, it could include quite a few references to the story and characters that were introduced in the novel. We still have some time until it releases and we’ll see just how comedic the film might go once the trailer drops.

  • ‘Rogue Squadron’ Still Eyeing 2023 Release After All

‘Rogue Squadron’ Still Eyeing 2023 Release After All

Lucasfilm has been quite busy expanding its Star Wars franchise through Disney+. Yet, some have noticed that there is a distinct lack of films from the franchise. Even news surrounding their projects announced during Disney Investor’s Day has gone silent. Suddenly, rumors started making the rounds that Patty JenkinsRogue Squadron may have gotten postponed until 2024. Yet, it seems it is still eyeing a 2023 release.

Shortly after, the project was postponed indefinitely without any real update on where the project was heading. Jenkins’ already had quite a few projects and may be used the time for the script to get to where it needed to be. Disney has now shared their upcoming cinematic release schedules that go as far back as 2028, and Rogue Squadron is seemingly still eyeing a release on the 22nd December 2023. It may add some hope that the film is still on track to release on time after all.

We still know very little about Lucasfilm’s plans or the cinematic future of Star Wars. There were rumors that they are considering a new trilogy, but we’ve also heard nothing on Taika Waititi‘s upcoming live-action film. While they have been pushing out series after series on Disney+, it’s still strange to think how little we know about the franchise’s future.

  • How Hulu’s Thriller ‘No Exit’ Was Made

How Hulu’s Thriller ‘No Exit’ Was Made

Fans of thrillers have Hulu’s No Exit to look forward to this weekend. Based on Taylor Adams‘ best-selling novel, the film sees Havana Rose Liu‘s Darby holed up in a rest stop with 4 strangers during a snowstorm. Everything seems fine until Darby discovers a kidnapped child tied up in one of the cars. Murphy’s Multiverse was invited to the film’s press junket which included director Damien Power and its cast.

Liu was asked about her electrifying turn as Darby, a recovering addict whose demons always get the best of her. Liu, a newcomer to the industry, gave a very humbling answer.

With Darby, I barely even had time to think. It just felt like it was flowing right from me.  I find her to be gritty, bold, charming, tortured, and also very vulnerable in a way that I don’t think we always see heroic characters holding onto. And I think for me, it was just the best, most sort of complex, nuanced character I could have  asked to play, given that so many of her faults really are her strengths and vice versa.

    Havana Rose Liu

No Exit‘s tension stems from the premise’s wildly claustrophobic setting. The film first takes the shape of traditional whodunits but soon morphs into something crazier. Director Damien Power addressed some of the themes that come with a film like No Exit.

This is not a film about a character or characters who go on a journey and grow and change. It’s really a film about how true character is revealed under pressure. And that applies to every single character in that room. The film the film asks the audience, you know, the audience is trying to work out who is the kidnapper. So, Darby’s trying to ask, “Who are you?” and the film asks that  question of the characters all the time. Who are you when  this happens? Who are you now? Who are you when the  pressure’s really on?

As to why Power agreed to adapt the novel into live-action, the answer was clear cut upon reading Taylor Adams‘ work.

I think the script that I read was already quite faithful to the novel. There are a few elements that I thought we could take from the novel though. I mean, as a novel, it had a great  character-driven plot, it’s got high stakes, it’s got these surprising twists and turns, this incredible, hostile setting, and, you know, this great ticking clock with the girl in the van. And all that was already in the script that I read. I can see why people read [the novel] and thought this would make a great movie. So did  I.

    Damien Power

One of No Exit‘s secret weapons is Mila Harris, who plays the kidnapped child. We got to ask the cast what it was like working with her and they had nothing but nice things to say. Falcon and the Winter Soldier star Danny Ramirez described Harris as a “powerhouse.”

She’s like one of the best child  actresses that I’ve ever worked with. Honestly, knocked it out of the park every single time.

    Danny Ramirez

Even the great Dennis Haysbert chimed on Harris’ scene-stealing performance. With such a dark and morbid premise, Haysbert was worried the film would have a traumatizing effect on a young girl but Harris alleviated those worries.

I wondered if she was traumatized at  all, you know? And she wasn’t. She just wasn’t. And unless she’s an even better actress than I think she just handled it just right off her shoulders. She’s fine. She was marvelous.

    Dennis Haysbert

The production design of No Exit’s outdoor set is one of the better aspects of the film. Much of the film’s most intense moments take place in the freezing snowy outdoors and the team nailed making that location look convincingly real. According to Power:

There was no real snow. We filmed the entire film in a studio in Auckland in New Zealand in summer. So we had a lot of fake snow, which was not without its own hazards, as Havana can tell you. She got totally hosed by a snow tornado on day one which was pretty painful. So  we had-we had some fake snow on set and then we added a lot of digital snow. I think every time you’re looking at  some snow, there’s a digital element in there  somewhere.

  • New Disney+ Listing Hints Netflix’s Marvel Shows May Not Release Worldwide Simultaneously

New Disney+ Listing Hints Netflix’s Marvel Shows May Not Release Worldwide Simultaneously

There’s been a lot of debate about when and where we might see the Marvel Netflix shows finally appear on Disney+. Suddenly, Canadian subscribers were sharing a newsletter that revealed that Daredevil, Luke Cage, and more were heading to the streaming service. There was no mention of the Star branding, which gave hope that it may also appear on the US subscription model with some rumors even adding fuel to the fire. Yet, the official listing from Disney+ Spain may have put a wrench in those hopes.

The listing, as shared by The Direct, includes all the series and films that are heading to the streaming service in March. As you can see clearly, Turning Red and Moon Knight are listed with their respective international release dates. Yet, the Marvel Netflix shows are nowhere to be found, which may hint that this isn’t a straightforward international release.

    Disney+ Spain

It’s kind of a surprise that it wouldn’t get an international release, especially if you consider that the series is leaving Netflix worldwide around the same time. There’s still no official word from Disney+, which may signal they can’t really talk about it until it has left Netflix. Either that or they are still figuring out distribution plans and timing windows for the various series. We’ll have to wait and see until an official word drops just what the future has in store after all.
