  • ‘The Banks’ Roxane Gay to Adapt Graphic Novel as a Series for New Regency and TKO Studios

‘The Banks’ Roxane Gay to Adapt Graphic Novel as a Series for New Regency and TKO Studios

It looks like another comic book storyline is making its way to television, as New Regency and TKO Studios are currently developing Roxane Gay and Ming Doyle‘s The Banks. Gay will also be heavily involved in the series, as she is set to write the adaptation. It joins Regeny’s expansion into TV with their Prime Video adaptation of the original 2005 film Mr. and Mrs. Smith. They’ve also recently worked on Tom Holland‘s The Crowded Room, which is heading to Apple TV+.

The story of The Banks follows the most successful thieves in Chicago, the titular Banks family. Yet, they lose one of their own during the heist of a century, which brings the family together to take their vengeance. It was one among Roxane Gay’s many projects, such as the novels Ayiti, An Untamed State, and Bad Feminist. She also worked with Marvel on World of Wakanda. It’s her first step into adapting a series.

  • Rocksteady’s ‘Suicide Squad’ Game Won’t Release Until 2023

Rocksteady’s ‘Suicide Squad’ Game Won’t Release Until 2023

The wait for Rocksteady’s next game will take a bit longer, as Bloomberg has revealed that Suicide Squad Kills the Justice League has been pushed back until 2023. There is still no set release date, as it was initially announced to release in 2022 alongside the other DC-based game, Gotham Knights. It’s unsure if they decided to push it back due to both games having close ties to Batman, or if it’s a production decision.

The game was originally announced back in 2020 during their DC FanDome event. It’ll focus on a smaller team that comprises the titular Suicide Squad, as you can play either Captain Boomerang, King Shark, Deadshot, or the ever-present Harley Quinn. Unlike Gotham Knights, this game seemingly focuses more on gunplay and mechanics similar to Insomniac’s Sunset Overdrive.

It’s a shame the wait is going to be longer once again, as we still know very little about the game. 2021’s DC FanDome offered our first real look at gameplay, but it was only in short snippets. Rocksteady continues to focus primarily on the story, but it supposedly will act as a Games-as-a-Service model once it releases. Here’s hoping we still get some updates throughout the year as we continue to wait for its release.

  • Oscar Isaac Confirms ‘Moon Knight’ as a Limited Series

Oscar Isaac Confirms ‘Moon Knight’ as a Limited Series

As Marvel Studios isn’t following the usual TV format, you never know which of their new series may end up getting a sequel season or not. So far, the only confirmed series to get a second season are Loki and What If…? but everything else is pure speculation. It looks like their latest Disney+ series, Moon Knight, might just be a one-and-done, as during Variety’s Actor on Actor

I’d never heard of “Moon Knight” before, and I collected comics when I was younger. I’d heard of “Morbius,” but I’d never heard of “Moon Knight.” I don’t know how the process was for you because it’s a feature film, we’re a limited series. There was a lot of room to try stuff because there wasn’t the pressure that we got to make sure we make however many hundreds of millions of dollars on the opening weekend.

    Oscar Isaac

It makes sense that they might approach Moon Knight as a limited series, especially with how the initial trailer teases it like an analysis of Marc Spector’s psyche. So, a potential Season 2 might fall too much into a typical action storyline that the actor might not be interested in tackling. Of course, we don’t know if his fractured mind would truly come back together by the end of the story.

Marvel Studios also has the freedom to potentially renew it at a later point, as they don’t have to make a direct second season shortly after but explore the character once they figure out a new take on the character. It’s also uncertain how active Oscar Isaac wants to be in an interconnected franchise, but it seems likely he’ll re-appear after the mini-series premieres on Disney+ on March 30th.

  • ‘Tales From The Walking Dead’ Anthology Adds Terry Crews, Jillian Bell, and More

‘Tales From The Walking Dead’ Anthology Adds Terry Crews, Jillian Bell, and More

Nothing truly ends. The Walking Dead franchise proved that fact with its eleven-season run. In addition, the flagship series spawns two spin-off series. Announced a while back, Tales From The Walking Dead will join Fear The Walking Dead and Walking Dead: World Beyond as the third spin-off series to spawn from the main series. Set to premiere sometime this summer on AMC, and we finally got a cast announcement for the anthology series.

Deadline has reported that Terry Crews, Anthony Edwards, Poppy Liu, Parker Posey, and Jillian Bell have all joined the upcoming series. This casting is said to be only the first wave of talent set to expand the world of the Walking Dead. Writer Scott M. Gimple shared his excitement about the new cast.

Anthony, Jillian, Terry, Parker, and Poppy are the first wave of singular talents who will further expand the Walking Dead Universe into harrowing, hilarious, heartfelt, and horrifying new realms and we couldn’t be happier to welcome them to the family, along with these terrific directors. More announcements, more wonderful folks to come

    Scott Gimple

The initial announcement of the series said that the series would feature new and established characters from within this universe. Currently, no actors previously seen on any of the three other shows have been announced for the anthology series. This would open up the possibility of many long-dead characters from the series returning for stories set before their debut in any of the other shows.

  • Don’t Expect Halle Berry in ‘John Wick 4’ But Maybe a Spinoff

Don’t Expect Halle Berry in ‘John Wick 4’ But Maybe a Spinoff

The cast of Keanu Reeves‘ next big movie, John Wick: Chapter 4, is set to be quite the ensemble. Unfortunately, it seems that Hollywood icon Halle Berry will not be among the returning stars, as while promoting Moonfall, she confirms that she won’t make an appearance in the highly-anticipated action sequel. Berry previously portrayed Sofia Al-Azwar in John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, an old ally of the title character, who assists him after his fall from grace with the High Table. The veteran dog-loving killer, who is also the manager of Casablanca’s Continental Hotel, was a highlight in a film packed with standout moments.

While fans are sure to be disappointed with her absence from the next franchise installment, they shouldn’t count on never seeing Berry in the role again. When asked about her involvement with the future of the Wick series, the former Catwoman star had some intriguing things to say:

Sofia’s not in the next John Wick movie. There could possibly be a Sofia…her own movie. So she might not be in John Wick, but she might be doing her own thingy-thingy.

    Halle Berry

Berry went on to compare the potential spin-off to “ointment on a little sore“, referencing a canceled James Bond spin-off that was to feature Jinx, her one-time Bond Girl, in the lead role. If a Sofia-centric film were to happen, it would not be the first offshoot of the Wick movies we see. A female-led action film set in the same universe, tentatively titled Ballerina, has been in production since 2017, with Ana de Armas playing the main character. Mel Gibson is also signed on to play the lead in a canon television series called The Continental, which will dive deeper into the roots of the titular hotel.

  • ‘Batgirl’ Set Photos Offer First Look at J.K. Simmons as a Younger Commissioner Gordon

‘Batgirl’ Set Photos Offer First Look at J.K. Simmons as a Younger Commissioner Gordon

Last year it was announced that J.K. Simmons would be reprising his role of Commissioner Gordon in the upcoming Batgirl solo film, starring Leslie Grace. The actor first appeared as Gordon in 2017’s Justice League, and of course in the 2020 re-release of director Zack Snyder’s original cut. In both films, he had a rather small role, but that seems to be changing in his next entry. Some new photos from the set in Glasglow have given us our first look at Simmons return as the famous commissioner.

He may look a bit different than when we first saw him in Justice League, as he ditched the grey look for his comic-accurate red hair. Gordon looks to be with his wife and possibly a young Barbara Gordon, indicating that this is most likely a flashback scene, which might explain the red hair. The actress who might be playing her mother has not been officially announced so far.

A while back on the HappySadConfused podcast, Simmons expressed that he was ” “flabbergasted” at the request from Warner Brothers to reprise his role as Gordon, believing his days as Commissioner were shortlived.

“I’m excited to be the once and future Jim Gordon, I had a long discussion with the guys about how we want to portray him. It’s a really interesting take on introducing Batgirl and fleshing Jim Gordon out.”

    J.K. Simmons

Batgirl currently has no release date but is currently set to release this year exclusively on HBO Max.

  • Gugu Mbatha-Raw Confirms Return for ‘Loki’ Season 2

Gugu Mbatha-Raw Confirms Return for ‘Loki’ Season 2

Production on the second season of Marvel Studios’ Loki series is reported to begin this summer at Pinewood Studios, and it appears one of the first seasons’ biggest stars will be there when it happens. Gugu Mbatha-Raw, the British actress who played TVA judge and series antagonist Ravonna Renslayer, has confirmed that she will indeed be returning for the show’s next batch of episodes. During an interview with Michael Strahan on Good Morning America, Mbatha-Raw was asked about her involvement with the future of the Disney+ exclusive. Her response, accompanied by a huge smile, was short and straightforward:

    I know there is a season two… I know that I’m in it…and that’s about all I can say!

    Gugu Mbatha-Raw

The last time we saw her character, Renslayer was departing the collapsing TVA to search for her own free will. It’s unknown what became of her after this, but the pages of Marvel comic books may give fans an idea of where her character arc is headed. Ravonna famously becomes the love of Jonathan Majors‘ Kang the Conqueror, with their relationship being a major plot point in his villainous storyline. It remains to be seen if the Marvel Cinematic Universe will take Mbatha-Raw‘s portrayal down this path, but her devout belief in He Who Remains seemed to be a good hint at it’s possibility.

Loki was the first Marvel-Disney+ series to get an officially announced second season renewal. There is no set release date for the next installments of the show, but with production supposedly starting soon, fans shouldn’t have to wait much longer for more information.

  • ‘Halo’ Has a New Showrunner In Case of a Season 2 Renewal by Paramount+

‘Halo’ Has a New Showrunner In Case of a Season 2 Renewal by Paramount+

Halo‘s release hasn’t been an easy one. After being in development hell for eight years, it is finally releasing on Paramount+ this March. It originally was produced as a Showtime series, but the streaming service from ViacomCBS became its new home. Currently, there has not been a renewal for the second season, but it seems that they may have a new showrunner who is ready to take over, the third one so far.

Executive producer Justin Falvey shared that David Wiener, known for his work on Fear the Walking Dead and Brave New World, would take over from Steven Kane, who was responsible for the production of the first season. Yet, he wasn’t the only one as Kane was responsible for the production in Budapest, while Killen worked on it in the United States. As of now, both have left the project, but Kane is open to still staying on as a consultant.

Kane shared during the Television that he worked on the Budapest production for two years, and being away from his family for so long as the reason he stepped down from the project. The series has had a troubled production for so long, as it also went through two directors with Rupert Wyatt forced to drop the project due to scheduling conflicts. So, only Otto Bathurst remained on to finish it. We’ll probably have to wait until the viewership numbers are in for Paramount before they decide to continue with the project.

  • ‘Hocus Pocus 2’: Doug Jones Shares Closer Look at New Billy Butcherson Design

‘Hocus Pocus 2’: Doug Jones Shares Closer Look at New Billy Butcherson Design

Just yesterday, executive producer Adam Shankman revealed that the Halloween classic revival of Hocus Pocus has just finished production. The project will see the return of the original Sanderson sisters, Bette Milder, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimiy. Yet, they aren’t the only ones as Doug Jones is also making his return as the zombie Billy Butcherson. Outside of a single set photo of the sisters flying, we sadly never got a good look at his updated take on the character. Luckily, as production has wrapped, the actor has shared a closer look on his Twitter featuring him in full Butcherson make-up.

    https://twitter.com/actordougjones/status/1488583087168516099

It certainly looks like they stuck to his original design for the most part. He’s wearing a jacket that hides the rest of his costume, but it does seem like it is mostly the same as the original. The best part of the costume is that he once again gets to do a practical mask to bring the zombie to life, which is a perfect way to pay tribute to the original. Jones is famous for his work on bringing various monsters to life through practical prosthetics and it’s great to see him return to one of the roles that put him on the map.
