In an interview with Comic Book, Feige refused to reveal which of the many characters who have adopted the mantle of Ghost Rider Gosling will be portraying.
When asked if Gosling would be playing Johnny Blaze or Danny Ketch, Feige avoided answering the question, saying, “I am going to let Ryan reveal what he wants to reveal, when he wants to reveal it, and what he wanted to reveal today is…he’s playing Ghost Rider.“
Feige went on to say that Gosling “is a huge fan of the comics; he did come to us particularly with a specific vision, based on some particular comics, but I’ll let him unveil that as he wants to,” and while he didn’t say what those comics were, the logo revealed for the 2028 film could give a hint as to which comics–and which Ghost Rider–Gosling may have leaned on for his pitch.
While it’s certainly not an iron clad means of determining the premise of the film, the Ghost Rider logo revealed at SDCC seems to riff heavily off of the logo used by Marvel Comics during its 1990s series that introduced and was led by Danny Ketch. Connecting the dots, it seems very likely that Gosling will be portraying Ketch in the MCU. But with Ketch, there’s a catch.
Thanks to years of comic book retcons, the Danny Ketch of the comics is intricately tied to Johnny Blaze. If Marvel Studios has any interest in bringing the character from the comics to life–and that’s no guarantee, given the issues the decision makers have had with legacy characters in the past–Gosling’s Ketch will need a Blaze. And since Gosling’s MCU pitch was comic-inspired, there’s a good chance at least part of Ghost Rider will see Blaze stalking Ketch, as he did when the latter was first introduced in the MCU, before uncovering the fact that the two are brothers. With both characters established in one film, the pathway to the long-rumored Midnight Sons film would become far easier to travel.
