Grab your fedora and untangle the bullwhip—San Diego Comic-Con just delivered one of its biggest, most unexpected publishing bombshells.
Marvel Comics revealed that the world’s most famous archaeologist is officially returning to the House of Ideas. Launching this December 2026, Indiana Jones and the Sword of Pandemonium is an all-new five-issue limited series that kicks off a fresh era of globe-trotting comic adventures set directly within the timeline of the classic films.
Even better? Marvel is putting serious superstar muscle behind the launch, tapping blockbuster writer Jason Aaron (Star Wars, Thor) and powerhouse artist Aaron Kuder (Planet She-Hulk, Ghost Rider) to lead Indy’s long-awaited comeback.
“I’ve wanted to adventure alongside Indiana Jones since I was 8 years old, to climb through ancient crypts and run for my life in exotic locales, to seek the world’s most fabled treasures. Now, here I am, feeling the same sort of joy I felt in 2015 when we launched STAR WARS #1,” said Aaron in an official press release.
The Premise: Straight Out of Raiders
Instead of jumping into uncharted territory, The Sword of Pandemonium anchors itself right in the golden era of the franchise, picking up in the immediate aftermath of Steven Spielberg’s 1981 film, Raiders of the Lost Ark.
“This is the Indy of Raiders of the Lost Ark, fresh off his harrowing experience on the island of Geheimhaven. Dark events were set in motion that day, strange new enemies have risen from the shadows, and for Indy and Marion Ravenwood the globe-trotting, punching, whip-cracking, and death-defying escapades, not to mention the archaeology, have just begun.”
Following the explosive destruction of the Ark of the Covenant, Indy’s most notorious enemies—including the seemingly impossible return of an archenemy—are desperately seeking a new source of supernatural power to recoup their losses. That quest leads straight to a legendary biblical weapon that has unwittingly fallen into the hands of Indy’s former companion, Marion Ravenwood.
Marvel is pulling out all the stops for collectors right out of the gate:
- Cover A: Penciled by industry legend Bryan Hitch.
- Variant Cover: Painted by Alex Ross.
- Connecting Cover: Aaron Kuder provides the first installment of a five-part connecting cover sweeping across the entire miniseries.
