  • James Mangold’s ‘Dawn of the Jedi’ Brings on ‘Andor’ Scribe as Co-Writer

James Mangold’s ‘Dawn of the Jedi’ Brings on ‘Andor’ Scribe as Co-Writer

Lucasfilm generated significant buzz at Star Wars Celebration 2023 by announcing a trio of new films that would bring the galaxy far, far away back to theaters. Each of the three films will be set in eras never before explored in films and two of those in eras never explored at all. Though directors are in place for all three (Dave Filoni, James Mangold and  Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy), there’s been no release dates provided and, in fact, Jon Favreau‘s The Mandalorian & Grogu will beat them all to the big screen. However, as Mangold continues work on his Bob Dylan biopic, A Complete Unknown, it looks like he’ll be getting a hand on completing the script for his Dawn of the Jedi era film.

According to THR’s Borys Kit, writer Beau Willimon has been brought on by Lucasfilm as a co-writer for Mangold’s film.

Willimon is a known quantity for Lucasfilm, having written three episodes of their Star Wars streaming series, Andor, one of which “One Way Out,” earned him an Emmy nomination.

As revealed in April 2023 at Star Wars Celebration, Mangold’s untitled film will take place in “the deep past, telling the tale of the first Jedi to wield the Force and harness it as a liberating power in an era of chaos and oppression.” The director explained that it provides him with “a chance to tell the entire story of its own: the birth of the Force,” and to answer questions such as “where did (the Force) come from? How is it found? Who was the first Jedi?”

  • New BTS Photo Reveals Another Key ‘Daredevil’ Actor Has Returned for ‘Daredevil: Born Again’

New BTS Photo Reveals Another Key ‘Daredevil’ Actor Has Returned for ‘Daredevil: Born Again’

Once upon a time in 2022, Charlie Cox called Daredevil: Born Again “a whole new deal,” making it clear that Marvel Studios’ bigbest shooter, Kevin Feige, did not intend for it to be Season 4 of Netflix’s Daredevil but rather Season 1 of Disney +’s version. Needless to say, that’s outdated information in 2024.

Following a paused production and a creative retooling, Netflix’s shows became MCU canon and Daredevil: Born Again now seems to very much be the fourth season of the series that debuted on Netflix in 2015. After having originally left out, stars Wilson Bethel, Elden Henson and Deborah Ann Woll all joined the cast when production resumed and now another key member of the original cast has been captured on set.

Ayelet Zurer, who played Vanessa Fisk, nee Marianna, has returned for Daredevil: Born Again.

Of all the returning cast members, Zurer’s is by far the most surprising because the role.of Vanessa was recast. In March 2023, Sandrine Holt was reported by the trades to have been cast as Vanessa.

The photo comes shortly after the crew of Daredevil: Born Again threw a wrap party though it’s very normal for additional photography to continue even after production “wraps.” Either way, the bulk of the work on the first nine episodes is done and production is reportedly going on hiatus until November, when the cast and crew will begin work on the next nine episodes. No release date for the first nine episodes has been revealed.

  • ‘Deadpool and Wolverine’ Promo Art Provides a Great Look at the Deadpool Corps, Wolverine’s Amazing Costume

‘Deadpool and Wolverine’ Promo Art Provides a Great Look at the Deadpool Corps, Wolverine’s Amazing Costume

Deadpool and Wolverine won’t hit theaters for another 3+ months but but there will be plenty of marketing and promotion to help pass the time. While the film’s two title characters will clearly be the stars of the show, there will be plenty of other highlights and it’s becoming clear that some version of the Deadpool Corps will be one of them.

In the comics, the Deadpool Corps was a team of alternate-universe versions of Deadpool that assembled in 2010’s Prelude to Deadpool Corps to take on a multiversal threat. With Deadpool and Wolverine largely set in The Void, it seems that the MCU’s iteration of the Corps will be Variants who have been pruned from their timelines.

The promo art gives us our best look yet at the members of the Corps: Dogpool, Headpool, Kidpool and Babypool(?). Absent from the art but also rumored to appear in the film is Lady Deadpool.

Another piece of art for the project sees Deadpool and Wolverine face to face and provides a great look at Wolverine’s comic accurate mask. Nearly 25 years after his first film appearance, Hugh Jackman will finally be sporting a comic-accurate costume when Deadpool and Wolverine hits theaters on July 26th.

  • Production on ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ Headed for Long Hiatus

Production on ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ Headed for Long Hiatus

After production on Daredevil: Born Again paused because of the SAG and WGA strikes and a bit of a creative retooling, the first batch of episodes for the new series are almost complete. There are always some minor finishing touches but with the crew holding a wrap party, the majority of the work is done on what will either be Season 1 or Part 1 of Season 1. With an extended episode count, however, there’s much more work to do and now we have an idea of when production will kick off on the next batch of episodes.

According to a Twitter user who spent significant time around the NYC set of the series, production on the next nine episodes of Daredevil: Born Again won’t begin until November.

If that’s accurate, that gives showrunner Dario Scardapane seven months to put together Season 1, Part 2 or Season 2 of the series. As of now, there’s no word on when Disney plans to roll out the first 9 episodes on their streaming service; however, the original plan was to have them debut on Disney Plus in early 2025.

  • Star Wars Reveals Trailer, Synopsis and Release Date for ‘Tales of the Empire’

Star Wars Reveals Trailer, Synopsis and Release Date for ‘Tales of the Empire’

In 2022, Lucasfilm’s Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi took audiences by surprise both with its eye-catching animation and captivating canonical short stories. The six-episode series filled in some of the blanks in the personal histories of Ahsoka Tano and Count Dooku, further fleshing out some of the franchise’s more intriguing characters. A second season of the series was promised during Star Wars Celebration 2023 and now Disney has rolled out the first details about the follow-up.

Rather than delving further into Ahsoka or Dooku’s lives or giving other Jedi the same treatment, Lucasfilm made a markedly different choice. Through a thrilling trailer, Season 2 was revealed to be titled Tales of the Empire! The six-episode season will still focus on force users, however, with Morgan Elsbeth and Barriss Offee set to take center stage.

Star Wars: Tales of the Empire is a six-episode journey into the fearsome Galactic Empire through the eyes of two warriors on divergent paths, set during different eras. After losing everything, young Morgan Elsbeth navigates the expanding Imperial world toward a path of vengeance, while former Jedi Barriss Offee does what she must to survive a rapidly changing galaxy. The choices they make will define their destinies.

    Official synopsis via Disney

All six episodes of the series will stream on Star Wars Day, May 4th. Star Wars veterans Diana Lee Inosanto (Morgan Elsbeth), Meredith Salenger (Barriss Offee), Rya Kihlstedt (Lyn aka Fourth Sister), Wing T. Chao (Wing), Lars Mikkelsen (Thrawn), Jason Isaacs (Grand Inquisitor) and Matthew Wood (General Grievous) all returned to voice their roles for the series.

  • Olivia Wilde, LuckyChap, Simon Kinberg Developing ‘Avengelyne’ Adaptation

Olivia Wilde, LuckyChap, Simon Kinberg Developing ‘Avengelyne’ Adaptation

Rob Liefeld‘s Avengelyne is getting the movie treatment. The Hollywood Reporter announced on Thursday that Olivia Wilde has teamed up with Margot Robbie‘s Lucky Chap and producer Simon Kinberg to adapt the Liefeld comic. Per the outlet, Wilde would direct the project, which is expected to be a feature, while Robbie’s Lucky Chap will produce the movie with Kinberg. As of right now, no studio is attached, but the hope is that with the package coming together, talks will begin with studios and streamers “in the coming weeks.”

While a writer isn’t currently attached to the project, Deadline has suggested an “A-list” writer is currently circling the project. As it seems to be coming together rather quickly, it’s possible news regarding a writer will hit sooner rather than later. It’s also of note that no actor is attached to the movie as of now. While Margot Robbie‘s Lucky Chap banner is producing the project, the actress is not expected to star in the project.

Debuting in 1995, Avengelyne focuses on a fallen angel cast down to Earth as she’s forced to find and protect The One. The series was created by Liefeld and Cathy Christian.

  • Marvel Studios Launces Viral Campaign for ‘The Fantastic Four’ Featuring the Future Foundation

Marvel Studios Launces Viral Campaign for ‘The Fantastic Four’ Featuring the Future Foundation

Known for years for their intense secrecy around their projects, Marvel Studios seems to be taking an all-new, all-different approach with The Fantastic Four. After first revealing the film’s cast alongside an updated logo and release date on Valentine’s Day, the studio is celebrating “4-4 Day” (April 4th) with a little viral fun.

The official Marvel Studios Twitter account shared a new piece of concept art for the film featuring the Human Torch along with a link to Marvel.com/Fantastic Four.

Once at the link, you’re greeted by H.E.R.B.I.E. and clever 404 “PAGE NOT FOUND” error. Upon closer inspection, a QR code can be seen inside H.E.R.B.I.E. which leads a new page with a Future Foundation logo at the top. There, 5 comics can be found which are likely key issues in which hints about the film’s plot could be found.

The issues involve the FF’s first appearance and their fight against Mole Man, the three-issue arc that introduced Galactus and the Silver Surfer and Mark Russell’s 2021 Fantastic Four: Life Story #1 which detailed the team’s adventures in the 1960s.

Given yesterday’s news that Julia Garner had joined the cast as a version of the Silver Surfer, the three-issue arc all but confirms the long-standing rumors that the film would feature the team taking on Galactus. And if it wasn’t clear yet, the inclusion of Life Story confirms the ’60s setting of the film.

Additionally, the inclusion of the Future Foundation in the viral campaign adds credence to the rumors that Franklin and Valeria Richards will be included in the film. The Future Foundation was created by Reed Richards as a way to help shape the future of science by helping young people learn to think creatively. The Richards’ children were two of the Foundation’s many members.

We’ll continue to keep an eye on Marvel to see if they have more in store on April 4!
