The fourth season of The Boys has added a couple of new faces to its cast, while also upping another actor’s role in the series. The Emmy-nominated series has upped Cameron Crovetti, who plays Homelander’s son Ryan, to a season regular for Season 4. While Valorie Curry and Susan Heyward have joined the series as Firecracker and Sister Sage, respectively. Both will be series regulars in the upcoming season.
Curry has starred in The Twilight Saga – Breaking Dawn, as well as shows like The Tick, The Following, Veronica Mars and House of Lies. While Heyward has starred in shows like Netflix’s Orange is the New Black, and the short-lived Playstation live-action take on Powers based on the graphic novels by Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming.
The Boys is based on the bestselling comic series of the same name by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson. The TV series hails from Eric Kripke who works as a showrunner, writer and executive producer on the series. He produces the hit series alongside Point Grey Pictures’ Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg and James Weaver. Season 4 of The Boys does not yet have a release date, although production is expected to begin soon.
Amazon’s Prime Video has unveiled a slew of release dates for some of its biggest movie titles, including the Harry Styles-led My Policeman. Deadline was able to exclusively reveal the release dates, as well as a mini synopsis for each project. According to the outlet, a fair amount of the films will see their world premieres at the Toronto International Film Festival, like My Policeman and Lena Durham‘s Catherine Called Birdy. While a couple of the films have already debuted at Sundance, including Nanny from Nikyatu Jusu and Run Sweetheart Run from Shana Feste.
My Policeman, starring Styles, will hit theaters on October 21st and then move to Prime Video on November 4th. My Policeman is a tale of forbidden romance and changing social conventions. It follows a relationship between three people – Tom, the policeman, a teacher named Marion, and museum curator Patrick – and their journey throughout the decades. It was directed by Michael Grandage from a script by Ron Nyswaner and is based on the book by Bethan Roberts.
While Sylvester Stallone‘s Samaritan will debut on Prime Video on August 26th. The film focuses on a thirteen-year-old boy named Sam Cleary, played by Javon Walton, who suspects that his reclusive neighbor Mr. Smith (Stallone) is a “legend hiding in plain sight.” That legend would be none other than the super-powered vigilante, Samaritan, who was thought to be dead after a firey warehouse battle with his rival, Nemesis. However, Cleary has a plan to coax his neighbor to reveal his true identity. The film hails from director Julius Avery and also stars Pilou Asbæk, Dascha Polanco and Moises Arias.
Something from Tiffany’s, a film we previously announced was happening here on Murphy’s Multiverse, will debut on Prime Video on December 9th. It stars Zoey Deutch, Kendrick Smith Sampson, Ray Nicholson, Shay Mitchell, Leah Jeffries, Jojo T. Gibbs, Javicia Leslie, Chido Nwokocha, Stephanie Shepherd and Michael Roark. The project is an adaption of the Melissa Hill novel of the same name. It tells the story of two men who find themselves shopping at Tiffany’s for the women in their lives. Gary, one of the men, is merely looking for a charm bracelet, while Ethan is looking to purchase an engagement ring. When a mix-up is made with the shopping bags, the two couples will find their lives intertwined.
Other release dates include Nanny on December 16th, following a limited theatrical run kicking off on November 23rd, Run Sweetheart Run on October 28th, and Catherine Called Birdy will hit theaters on September 23rd before moving to Prime on October 7th.
Milo Manheim is set to join Peyton List in the Paramount+ adaptation of School Spirits. The young adult drama is based on the graphic novel of the same name by Nate & Megan Trinrud and Maria Nguyen. It is being produced by Awesomeness Studios.
School Spirits (working title) will follow List’s character as she finds herself stuck in the afterlife and goes on to investigate her mysterious disappearance, alongside a group of other students that are also stuck in limbo from her school. The book is being published next year through Clarion Books, an imprint of HarperCollins Children’s Books. The series hails from Oliver Goldstick, who worked on Netflix’s Bridgerton. Goldstick will serve as the showrunner as well as an executive producer along with Nate and Megan Trinrud, who actually penned the pilot script. Max Winkler, who has helmed episodes of American Horror Stories and New Girl, is directing the pilot episode.
While List is playing the lead character, Manheim will play Wally, who is described as a “lovable ghost from the 1980s who in his glory days was a star high school football player.” The young actor is perhaps best known for his work on Disney’s hit Zombies films, which recently released its third installment on Disney+. Prior to starring in the Zombies films, he also appeared in The Conners and American Housewife. As for List, she’s best known these days for starring in Netflix’s Cobra Kai as Tory Nichols.
In not-so-surprising news, the CW has confirmed that The Flash will end with its upcoming ninth season.
Eric Wallace, who took over as showrunner on The Flash with Season 6, confirmed the show’s end in a statement to the press. He thanked the cast, writers, producers and crew throughout the years for all of their hard work, while celebrating Barry’s long-running story on the small screen. “Nine seasons! Nine years of saving Central City while taking audiences on an emotional journey full of heart, humor and spectacle. And now Barry Allen has reached the starting gate for his last race,” Wallace said. “So many amazing people have given their talents, time and love to bring this wonderful show to life each week. So, as we get ready to honor the show’s incredible legacy with our exciting final chapter, I want to say thank you to our phenomenal cast, writers, producers and crew over the years who helped make The Flash such an unforgettable experience for audiences around the world.”
Speculation that The Flash would be canceled began earlier this year when it was revealed that leading man Grant Gustin was renegotiating a deal for just one more season. News that was later followed by the revelation that Candice Patton was also looking to sign on for just one more season, too. Of course, news that the CW would also be going up for sale didn’t help to stop speculation. After news of the potential sale hit, the CW began canceling shows left and right, including Legends of Tomorrow and Batgirl. Thankfully, unlike those two shows, fans of The Flash will get a chance to see storylines receive a proper ending.
While its views continued to drop throughout the years, The Flash still remained one of the CW’s most-watched shows in its eighth season, averaging around 1 million viewers and ranking among its most-streamed series on digital platforms. In its absence, it’ll leave behind Superman & Lois, Gotham Knights, and Stargirl, three DC Comics projects that are separate from the former Arrowverse that once ruled the network.
The Flash‘s ninth – and final – season will conclude with a 13-episode run next year as part of The CW’s midseason roster. Production on Season 9 will kick off sometime next month.
Producing a film is never easy, especially something like Prey which takes you out of the modern world into a time that had its own unique challenges. Survival is essential and if you’re being haunted by the Predator, you will use every chance you have at your disposal. During the official press conference for Prey, the cast and director bonded over what may be one of their worst experiences, filming in a stinking mud pit.
While discussing the tribulations of filming during COVID, director Dan Trachtenberg brought up how unexpected the “smell fo that mud pit” was that they used during filming. Main actress Amber Midthunder highlighted how “that smell is in my nose forever” before thanking the director. He surprisingly shared that it seemingly didn’t smell at first but something about it interacting with human
Yeah, the haunting thing about that is that it didn’t smell at all before anyone got in it. And then as soon as human flesh entered that zone, suddenly, some chemical reaction happened and it was horrifying.
Dan Trachtenberg
Midthunder jokingly points out that it wasn’t because of her as she “was not the first one in there.” It’s definitely always interesting to find out what actors and the team on set have to go through when filming sequences, especially something involving something that seems simple like a mud pit. It also sounds like they made the best of it to ensure we get an iconic sequence featuring it as Midthunder‘s Naru faces off against an unlikely foe.
Marvel Studios Hall H presentation at SDCC ’22 gave fans a peek at the plans for the next three years of the MCU, including dates for the next two Avengers films, The Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars. Shortly after, a trade report revealed that Destin Daniel Cretton, who directed 2021’s Shang-Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings, had signed on to helm The Kang Dynasty. That report, coupled with a lack of news about a Shang-Chi sequel at SDCC, led to some social media speculation that Cretton would be too busy to get around to a second Shang-Chi film until AFTER the Multiverse Saga came to a close.
A Shang-Chi sequel may not, however, be as far away as some believe it to be. Cretton officially boarded the Shang-Chi sequel as writer and director in December of 2021 and while he admitted at the time that he had not begun work on a script, it’s likely the one has started to coalesce around some ideas that he brainstormed for the film while in production on Shang-Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings. Cretton is also serving as an executive producer on Marvel Studios’ Wonder Man streaming series, meaning with The Kang Dynasty, a project which he’s only directing and NOT writing, he’s juggling three projects at the same time.
That doesn’t mean, however, that Shang-Chi 2 has taken a back seat. In fact, it turns out it might well be a top priority for Cretton and Marvel Studios and could very well hit theaters before Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. In an interview at SDCC, Shang-Chi star Simu Liu may have hinted at just such a scenario when he teased his potential involvement in “a couple” of the projects announced by Marvel Studios at their Hall H presentation and indicating that he was “going to be busy the next few years.”
While this is certainly no guarantee that Shang-Chi 2 will be in theaters ahead of Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, it does leave the door open for that to happen. It is very likely that the two films might share some connective tissue, with Cretton working on them both, and while time might seem short, both projects could be completed in plenty of time for 2025 release dates. However, until Marvel Studios dates the sequel to Shang-Chi, speculation will continue. Perhaps they’ll do just that at their upcoming D23 presentation in Anaheim in September.
As far as Comic Con’s announcements go, the easiest thing to say would be Avengers: Secret Wars. The truth is Kevin Feige’s plan on display for us to see is the kicker. This universe is expanding and we’ve all been wondering how it will continue to do so. As a fan, it was gratifying to see all of the projects lined up. There’s definitely fun in trying to figure out where the MCU is going on its own but to see it laid out is awesome.
It gives us all something to look forward to. If you want your street heroes and miss Daredevil…you got him back. Did you want to see how Sam Wilson’s journey will continue? We now have a title and a date. From team-ups to solo projects what we got was a reminder that the talk about the MCU was silly. Going forward, the expectation will be to see how tv gets better structurally. Otherwise, the road to what’s coming is here and we can actually enjoy the now of the MCU again. See you soon Kang.

After having the pleasure to attend this year’s San Diego Comic Con (SDCC) festivities, it remains an arduous task to find just one top revelation from the weekend. While part of me wants to think outside of the box (I want to give special mention to Star Trek’s Hall H panel and them laying out a strong framework for their future on Paramount Plus), I can’t help but acknowledge that Marvel Studios were the runaway winners of the weekend.
With that in mind, I will focus on the triad of major revelations that were exclusive to the audience at Hall H. Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania, Secret Invasion, and Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 3 all showcased first-look trailers for their respective projects. And the three Marvel Studios projects all left extremely strong first impressions that should all have fans excited for the start of 2023. Quantumania’s trailer highlighted how this film will certainly be the highest stakes of the Ant-Man franchise through the introduction of a Jonathan Majors Kang the Conqueror variant, but still keeping the comedic tone from the original core ensemble and the addition of Bill Murray. Meanwhile, Secret Invasion seemingly will provide the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) with its first paranoia thriller since Captain America: The Winter Soldier (and I’d argue the series will lean much more into the genre than the film if the trailer is any indication). And to top it off, Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 3’s trailer was the largest revelation from the panel. James Gunn very much has established this film will mark the conclusion of his run on the Guardians; franchise, and he is pulling all the stops to make this ending as epic as possible in terms of both plot and cinematic scope. There are many distinct talking points coming away from it, but the largest certainly is the highly emotional arc in store for Rocket Raccoon and his origins at the hands of the High Evolutionary.
If there’s ultimately a singular major revelation from SDCC, it’s that fans could be in store for a highly exciting beginning to MCU’s Phase Five in 2023.

My favorite reveal, hands down, was the announcement of the next Avengers films: Secret Wars and Kang Dynasty. My guy AC called out the fickle fans who sit online all day consistently complaining about Marvel and the “no direction” post-Endgame, but anyone paying a modicum of attention to Loki could tell a) who the big bad of this saga was and b) what they were building towards. You don’t populate the world with heroes and then just leave them as such, and Kevin Feige pulling the curtain back on the conclusion of the now-aptly named Multiverse Saga confirmed what we knew. The big bad is Kang, and we are headed towards the only story that can both top Endgame and simultaneously reset the universe to a point where it makes sense that mutants other than Kamala Khan exist and that the Avengers do have to pay for their machinations of time. You see, just because He Who Remains’ TVA was ok with them messing with time doesn’t mean that all the other Kang variants and their TVAs (should they have them) will be. Kang’s line to Ant-Man (you’re an Avenger? Have I killed you before) is the first salvo in the war to come ahead. A secret war, if you will, and seeing that confirmed was pretty damn exciting.

My favorite reveal from Marvel’s SDCC panel was the official announcement of Daredevil: Born Again. Although Charlie Cox’s return to the role in the MCU was no secret (shoutout to #SavedDaredevil), the extent of Daredevil’s role in future Marvel projects was still held close to the vest. And even after confirmation of appearances in Echo and She-Hulk: Attorney AtLaw, the official announcement of his Disney Plus series was universally well-received. But no one could have predicted that the series would get 18(!) episodes to tell its story.
I recently advocated for longer seasons of the Marvel Disney Plus series, because the six-episode season structure wasn’t adequately serving them, so tripling that output assuages all of those concerns. Daredevil: Born Again is 5 episodes longer than what fans were used to getting from Netflix, which should provide its narrative with more than enough time to breathe so that the show can service multiple character subplots, conclude several arcs, and overall, do the necessary world-building to truly establish the MCU’s Street Level.
Will we see any of the former Defenders pop up? Will we get a split season of 9 and 9 with a break in between? Will the “canon” questions be definitively answered? So many questions were raised by the announcement of Daredevil: Born Again, and I can’t wait to discover all the answers.

Not sure if this is a surprise to anybody, but my favorite reveals from San Diego Comic-Con were probably Spider-Man: Freshman Year and Daredevil: Born Again. These are two of my all-time favorite characters, and to see both of their names pop up in Hall H, headlining projects, was a dream come true. I’ve been craving a solid new animated Spider-Man project for years, and it looks like Jeff Trammell is getting ready to deliver. Learning Freshman Year is going to be a full-blown variant series, as opposed to a mini-MCU prequel, was so exciting. I haven’t been satisfied with a Spidey show since The Spectacular Spider-Man, but this one looks to have everything I could want from a web-head adaptation. Diverse supporting characters, classic bad guys, a unique animation style, and a passionate creative team working behind the scenes. As for Born Again, that one doesn’t take much explaining. Who wouldn’t be pumped about another season, a full 18 episodes, of Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio doing their thing? My eyes will be on Disney+ for the next couple years.
Audiences will have to wait a little longer to see Star Wars next live-action Disney Plus series, Andor. Along with a new trailer and poster for the streaming series, came the information that the premiere date has moved to September 21st.
Watch the new trailer for #Andor, a Star Wars Original Series, streaming only on @DisneyPlus. Experience the three-episode premiere September 21. pic.twitter.com/awy4AxiOeH
Andor serves not only as a prequel to Rogue One but as story of the beginning of the rebellion against the Empire. As such, the new trailer showed the return on some familiar characters whose stories were told in animated series such as Clone Wars and Rebels, in addition to others who have been seen across multiple live-action and animated projects. Diego Luna returns as Cassian Andor and is joined by an expansive ensemble cast including Stellan Skarsgård, Forest Whitaker, and Adria Arjona.
Welcome to your Monday edition of The Morning After Huddle. It pays to have good friends who can hold you down when life hits. After an unexpected illness last week, D.A. was kind enough to help me out. I’m back with all of your important updates on all things NFL…and unlike your Uncle Steve’s hairline, we are progressing rapidly.
Here’s what you need to know:
The soap opera that is “Days of Deebo Samuel” finally has an ending. Samuel and the 49ers agreed to a 3-year extension worth $73.5 million, with 58.1 million guaranteed late Sunday. It seems that money covers a multitude of wounds and long gone are the days of wanting to be ex-communicated from the family. Deebo gets his respect and the Niners get their guy.
Today, we expect news on the Deshaun Watson front. NFL disciplinary officer Sue Robinson will hand down her decision this morning. The NFLPA is not expected to appeal and has encouraged the NFL to do the same. Several outlets are reporting that the suspension could be in the neighborhood of 4-8 games. Apparently, Watson and his camp tried to engage in settlement talks with the NFL in recent days, but neither side seemed happy with the outcome. They are far apart, with Watson’s camp wanting no more than 6-8 games, and the NFL wanting 12 games and a $8 million fine.
Switching gears, here is your Key Signings Roundup:
TE Sage Surratt is signing with the Chargers. Surratt most recently played in the USFL for the Birmingham Stallions.
OT Darryl Williams is signing with the Jaguars. Williams went undrafted in 2020 and spent the last two seasons with the Chiefs and Patriots.
Ryan Kerrigan will sign a one-day contract to retire a Washington Commander. Kerrigan is hanging up his cleats after 11 seasons.
Thanks for sticking around today for all things you want to know. Catch us Tuesday for more news, hot takes, and insanely terrible analysis that you can’t help but love.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness was filled with exciting surprises, yet there were still quite a few that ended up on the cutting room floor. Perhaps the biggest abandoned idea was a cameo appearance from fan-favorite actor Daniel Craig as part of the Illuminati. The prestigious superhero team essentially operated as the Avengers of Earth-838 and was comprised of several unexpected heroes from Marvel’s past. Hayley Atwell and Lashana Lynch returned as alternate timeline variants of Captain Carter and Captain Marvel, respectively, while big names like Patrick Stewart and John Krasinski shocked viewers with the Marvel Cinematic Universe debuts of Professor X and Mr. Fantastic. Anson Mount even made a memorable homecoming as Black Bolt, a role he originated in 2017’s poorly received ABC series Inhumans.
In May, shortly after the sequel’s release, it was made known that Craig had originally been intended to appear in the film as well. The former Casino Royale star would have portrayed the Asgardian warrior Balder the Brave. In both the comics and actual Norse mythology, Balder is the brother of Thor and Loki, and a respected member of Odin’s royal family. Craig‘s part in the project reportedly fell through after the global COVID-19 pandemic prevented him from traveling to the film’s set. Fans may have thought they’d never get a glimpse of Craig in the role, but luckily, concept artist Darrell J. Warner had a say in the matter. Warner recently took to Instagram to reveal an early, unfinished design for Balder:
Warner isn’t allowed to officially state who the character is in his art, but left enough clues in the caption to make it easily deducible. Balder appears to have his signature helmet, furred cape, and blue armor, and is even standing next to one of Odin’s ravens. It’s far from a clear image of Craig, but it may end up being the closest fans ever get to seeing him in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
