  • ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ Claws Up Biggest R-Rated Opening Weekend Ever

‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ Claws Up Biggest R-Rated Opening Weekend Ever

Marvel once again fatigues its way to some record-breaking numbers, but this time in a category many thought they’d never read the names “Marvel Studios” and “Disney.” With the release of Deadpool & Wolverine, they have now managed to win the biggest R-rated opening box office weekend ever with a whopping $205M. That makes it the eighth-highest opening ahead of Black Panther and trailing slightly behind The Avengers. It’s crazy to think that in all this time only nine films ever passed that $200M mark and this is the first time an R-Rated film managed such a feat.

It has also skipped over Deadpool and Deadpool 2′s opening weekends, which each made respective $132M and $125M which were massive for the time for R-rated before Joker went on to make a good streak. It also marks the biggest opening of the year overtaking Inside Out 2, which had a debut of $155M and now is the highest-earning animated film ever. It’s a good sign after many films seemingly struggled last and this year, but may be a bigger sign that July is the new May for the summer box office.

Internationally, the film made $438M so it’s definitely going to be a smash at the box office and help make up some of the issues that plagued the studio last year with The Marvels and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Though ignoring online discourse, it was a rough year overall for major releases and the strikes just hit the box office harder than one would expect. It does open the question if this is a similar surprise hit with Spider-Man: No Way Home given the leads and audiences simply care more for nostalgia than original continuations.

Deadpool & Wolverine had initial expectations at $160M so that jump is quite massive after it made $96M on its opening day alone. What is also going to boost its numbers is the impressive A CinemaScore ranking which is quite unusual given how general audiences tend to react towards R-rated films. So, the Deadpool film being a crowd-pleaser with its humor goes against many online reactions stating people will be mixed on it. So, we’re continuing to see a stronger dissonance between X and TikTok reactions against the global reactions. The big question is: how far can it go and is a billion on its radar moving into its second weekend?

  • Marvel Studios Rolls Out Poster, Teaser Ahead of New Trailer for ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’

Marvel Studios Rolls Out Poster, Teaser Ahead of New Trailer for ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’

Marvel Studios’ only theatrical release of 2024, Deadpool and Wolverine, is due out in just about 12 weeks which means it’s time for the big wheel of promotion to start rolling in earnest. To that end, with a new trailer due out tomorrow, the studio has pushed out a teaser on social media along with a new poster for the film.

The poster gives a great look at the detail of the arm of Hugh Jackman’s comic-accurate suit.

The teaser itself doesn’t seem to give anything away, though it does spend a lot of its runtime on the death of Wolverine as seen in 2018’s Logan.

Deadpool & Wolverine hits theaters on July 26th!

  • ‘Deadpool and Wolverine’ Promo Art Provides a Great Look at the Deadpool Corps, Wolverine’s Amazing Costume

‘Deadpool and Wolverine’ Promo Art Provides a Great Look at the Deadpool Corps, Wolverine’s Amazing Costume

Deadpool and Wolverine won’t hit theaters for another 3+ months but but there will be plenty of marketing and promotion to help pass the time. While the film’s two title characters will clearly be the stars of the show, there will be plenty of other highlights and it’s becoming clear that some version of the Deadpool Corps will be one of them.

In the comics, the Deadpool Corps was a team of alternate-universe versions of Deadpool that assembled in 2010’s Prelude to Deadpool Corps to take on a multiversal threat. With Deadpool and Wolverine largely set in The Void, it seems that the MCU’s iteration of the Corps will be Variants who have been pruned from their timelines.

The promo art gives us our best look yet at the members of the Corps: Dogpool, Headpool, Kidpool and Babypool(?). Absent from the art but also rumored to appear in the film is Lady Deadpool.

Another piece of art for the project sees Deadpool and Wolverine face to face and provides a great look at Wolverine’s comic accurate mask. Nearly 25 years after his first film appearance, Hugh Jackman will finally be sporting a comic-accurate costume when Deadpool and Wolverine hits theaters on July 26th.

  • Mon Dieu! ‘Deadpool and Wolverine’ Rumored to Have Another Ace Up Its Sleeve

Mon Dieu! ‘Deadpool and Wolverine’ Rumored to Have Another Ace Up Its Sleeve

Deadpool and Wolverine may be Marvel Studios only theatrical release in 2024 but it’s definitely playing for keeps. The upcoming film, which is largely set in the Void introduced in Season 1 of Loki, will feature Variants of Deadpool and some familiar X-Men villains from Fox’s retired franchise. It’s also rumored to feature cameos from heroes and their Variants from across the Multiverse, including those who have appeared on film before and those who have not. Now, a new rumor suggests an X-Men Variant from an unproduced film will be making an appearance and hoping to make his momma proud.

Following a social media interaction between Hugh Jackman and Channing Tatum, social media leaker GWGST claimed that Tatum, who was cast as Remy LeBeau in Fox’s unproduced Gambit film will make an appearance as dat thieving Swamp Rat in Deadpool and Wolverine.

Written into X-Men canon in 1990, Gambit’s popularity skyrocketed following his inclusion in X-Men: The Animated Series which gave the character a large role and a larger-than-life personality. According to the rumor, Tatum’s Gambit will be sporting the familiar comic-accurate/TAS-accurate suit complete with the signature trench coat.

Though it’ll be Tatum’s first time bringing the charming Cajun to life, it’s not the first appearance of the character in a CBM. Taylor Kitsch portrayed Remy in 2009’s atrocious X-Men Origins: Wolverine when Tatum was unavailable to fill the role. Ironically, Tatum’s Gambit–which had directors Gore Verbinski, Doug Lyman and Rupert Wyatt attached to direct at different times in development–was killed by Disney’s acquisition of 21st Century Fox, which will almost certainly provide some fertile ground for jokiness around how the character ended up in the Void, non? C’est la vie, mon ami.

  • ‘Deadpool and Wolverine’ Promo Art Teases Some Absurd–and Comic Accurate–Variants

‘Deadpool and Wolverine’ Promo Art Teases Some Absurd–and Comic Accurate–Variants

It’s no secret that a good portion of Marvel Studios Deadpool and Wolverine will take place in The Void. Introduced in Season 1 of Loki, The Void is a massive space located at the end of time where people, places and things end up when they or their timelines are pruned by the TVA. It’s a fun concept that allowed for the Law of Conservation of Mass to remain intact even in a wild sci-fi romp like Loki; however, once pruned Variants end up there, they have to contend with the trans-temporal entity Alioth, a construct of Kang’s who feasts on those sent to The Void. It’s a scary place to be sure but it’s definitely survivable and it looks as though Deadpool and Wolverine will introduce a slew of Variants who have done just that. Now, some new promo art for the film gives a pretty clear picture of who some of the Variants who occupy the Void will be.

A piece of art making its way around social media found an interesting way to tease five total Deadpool Variants, including three that haven’t been revealed until now.

Embedded in the classic “SNIKT” of Wolverine, a baby version of Wade Wilson and Variants, Kidpool, Deadpool, Dogpool and Headpool can be seen, left to right. Those are certainly not the only Variants we’ll see in the movie (Lady Deadpool is noticeably absent) but it does seem as though Deadpool and Wolverine will introduce some version of the Deadpool Corps. In the comics, the Deadpool Corps was a team of alternate-universe versions of Deadpool that assembled to take on a multiversal threat. That sounds pretty much what they’re likely to do in Deadpool and Wolverine where they will have to take on, Cassandra Nova, the deranged twin of Charles Xavier.

  • New ‘Deadpool 3’ BTS Photo May Tease the Return to a Major ‘Logan’ Location

New ‘Deadpool 3’ BTS Photo May Tease the Return to a Major ‘Logan’ Location

As Marvel Studios’ only 2024 film, the currently untitled Deadpool movie will certainly garner a significant amount of attention. With the July 26th release date just over 6 months away, production on the film has seemingly wrapped and fans are anticipating the first look at the film will come during Super Bowl LVIII. While there have been plenty of spoilery set photos, there are likely still plenty of surprises still in store for the audience, though star Ryan Reynolds may have just given another one away.

In a recent Instagram story, Reynolds shared a black and white photo of a pair of chairs from the film’s set. The chairs, with the names Logan and Wade Wilson on them, are set in front of a corn field that looks like every other corn field…but they may just give away a key plot point from the film.

Given that his character died in 2018’s Logan, Hugh Jackman’s return to the role immediately generated speculation that Deadpool 3 would end up retconning the events of the film in someway and it’s possible this new photo has revealed when and where. In Logan, Logan, Laura and Charles find themselves guests at the home of Will Munson, a corn farmer in Oklahoma City. It was at the Munson farm where the Logan clone, X-24, found the trio and fatally wounded Charles and killed the entire Munson family.

Given all the plot rumors that state Wade will pluck Logan from the Logan timeline for their adventure in the Deadpool threequel, it seems VERY likely that this might be the point in time from which he plucks him. It’ll be interesting to see when Wade chooses to become an interloper as on one hand, he could pop up, kill X-24 and save Charles Xavier and the Munson family while on the other hand, he could take Logan after the damage has been done, leaving Laura to fend for herself.

  • Morena Baccarin Confirms Return for ‘Deadpool 3’

Morena Baccarin Confirms Return for ‘Deadpool 3’

With Marvel Studios untitled Deadpool and Wolverine film continuing to bring back all sorts of characters from previous Fox Marvel films and the plot clearly revolving around time travel/multiversal hijinks, it’s easy to believe that just about anything is fair game for the 2024 films. The Fox X-films were certainly not known for their attention to continuity details so any plot thread left dangling could be in play as well as continuing some stories that were ongoing when Disney and Fox struck a deal for the live-action rights to the X-Men, the Fantastic Four and related characters. Foremost among those, it would seem, would be the events of the post-credit scenes to Deadpool 2 in which Wade Wilson used Cable’s time-traveling tech to undo some damage done in the film, including saving the life of his fiancée, Vanessa, played by Morena Baccarin. Earlier in the year, the actress explained that she had not finalized terms to return but that’s all changed now.

In an interview with CBM, Baccarin confirmed that she had struck a deal with Marvel Studios to appear in the film. “It did work out! I finished my shooting days on it, already,” said Baccarin, indicating she’s most likely finished work on her part well before the mid-summer work stoppage. “I think the film is now underway again after the strike and I think it’s going to be quite good! Yeah, I think fans are in for a fun surprise.”

Given the rumored presence of the TVA in Deadpool 3, and what is already known about the organization, it’s a safe bet they’d be pretty unhappy with the Merc with a Mouth’s actions in Deadpool 2. The threequel is shaping up to be quite something and with it being Marvel Studios only 2024 film, it’s sure to be under intense scrutiny. Whatever director Shawn Levy and stars Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman have in store, it’s rumored to be tightly tied to the overarching Multiverse Saga narrative and lead into the events of Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars. Let’s see if any of the film goes unspoiled before its July 26th, 2024 release.

  • ‘Deadpool and Wolverine’ Set Photos Feature Some Classic Marvel Vehicles, Tease a Mad Max-esque Scene in The Void

‘Deadpool and Wolverine’ Set Photos Feature Some Classic Marvel Vehicles, Tease a Mad Max-esque Scene in The Void

Recently, some spoilery photos from the set of Marvel Studios untitled Deadpool and Wolverine project made the rounds. Now, a larger series of photos has emerged and provides not only a little more context to the previous photos but also revealed some incredible cameos and Easter eggs.

    Spoiler Ahead

The set photos, which can be viewed here, seem to indicate that a portion of the film will involve a battle in The Void that looks to be very much inspired by George Miller’s Mad Max franchise. The leaked images show more of a character who looks just like Tyler Mane‘s Sabretooth joined by a slew of other villains including Toad, a character who resembles Boyd Holbrook’s Donald Pierce from Logan and some other currently unrecognizable characters making their way through the Void on a wild array of vehicles. Among them are what looks to be a lunar rover hooked up to multiple motorcycles (is one of those Cap’s?) that’s reminiscent of the Doof Wagon seen in 2015’s Mad Max: Fury Road, the von Darrelman cupcake van from Moon Knight, and most incredibly a FULLY FUNCTIONAL FANTAST-ICAR which seems to be inspired by the MK1 model that first appeared in Fantastic Four #3 and was created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby.

The photos also seem to confirm the rumors that the TVA will play a role in the project as they look to reveal a TVA agent in the Void alongside the heroes and villains. It is believed that Matthew Macfadyen will portray a TVA employee named Paradox in the film and ultimately end up tagging along with Deadpool and Wolverine.

As Marvel Studios only theatrical release in 2024, Deadpool 3 must pack quite a punch at the box office. Between the rumors surrounding its plot and the set photos that have made their way online so far, it certainly seems as though it stands a chance to impress!

  • Deadpool Besties Dopinder and Blind Al Set for MCU Debut in ‘Deadpool 3’

Deadpool Besties Dopinder and Blind Al Set for MCU Debut in ‘Deadpool 3’

As the untitled Deadpool sequel gets closer to the start of production and the cast of the film begins to round out, a pair of familiar faces have joined the film. Karan Soni and Leslie Uggams, who portrayed Dopinder and Blind Al, respectively, have joined the project according to Deadline.

The third time is a charm for both Soni and Uggams, both of whom debuted in 2016’s Deadpool and returned for the sequel in 2018. The duo joins stars Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman as actors to make the jump from the Fox franchise to the MCU. They’ll star alongside newcomers Emma Corrin, who is reported to be the villain, and Matthew Macfadyen, who is reported to be a “third wheel” to Reynolds’s Deadpool and Jackman’s Wolverine. Shawn Levy, who worked with Reynolds on Free Guy and The Adam Project and with Jackman on Real Steel, will helm the threequel for Marvel Studios.

  • Patrick Stewart’s Charles Xavier Might Have One More Death in Him in ‘Deadpool 3’

Patrick Stewart’s Charles Xavier Might Have One More Death in Him in ‘Deadpool 3’

Few actors are as deeply associated with comic book movie characters as Patrick Stewart is with Charles Xavier. Stewart has portrayed Professor X in seven films, a post-credit scene and even voiced him in a few video games and has become inextricably linked to the character. He most recently returned to the role as a member of the Illuminati in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and after a memorable entrance was dishonorably discharged from his service by the Scarlet Witch. That wasn’t the first time Stewart’s Charles kicked the bucket on the big screen; according to him, it may not be the last.

Marvel Studios is just a few months away from beginning production on the third installment of the Deadpool franchise, a film that will introduce Ryan Reynolds‘ Merc with a Mouth and Hugh Jackman‘s Wolverine to the MCU. While Stewart hasn’t been confirmed for the film, he did tell Comic Book that he’s “been told to standby,” before adding, “I know nothing more than that, honest.”

Given the connection between Wolverine and Charles, it wouldn’t be remotely surprising to see the Professor in the film. However, one of the most sensible theories about the film–and one that seems to be picking up steam–is that its plot will be an adaptation of the Marvel Comic series Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe. Should that be the case, the film might find room for a fourth and final (?) death for the character before Marvel Studios begins their work on the X-Men and recasts the role.

Deadpool 3/Wolverine and Deadpool begins production in May ahead of its November 8th, 2024 release as part of Marvel Studios’ Phase 4.
