Job Listings Hint at Multiplayer for ‘Ghost of Tsushima 2’

It looks like Sucker Punch Productions is actively looking to implement multiplayer elements in an upcoming game. They are actively looking to hire a Senior Multiplayer Mission Designer and Senior Multiplayer Systems Designer. As pointed out by ComicBook.com, it’s an interesting ad if you consider that the only game we know of that they are working on is the sequel to Ghost of Tsushima.

It doesn’t outright confirm that the sequel will have specific multiplayer functionality, but the first entry already included a functionality titled Ghost of Tsushima: Legends which allowed you to tackle various missions with friends or strangers online. Given how long they supported that functionality, it wouldn’t be too surprising they would want that option to return.

Of course, we don’t know if the sequel to Ghost of Tsushima will be a straight-forward story game, or perhaps they are simply working on a multiplayer spinoff similar to the long-rumored The Last of Us: Factions game that has seemingly been in development hell for some time. It’s also not unusual for popular games to add these new functionalities, especially if they end up having some way to keep players engaged.

Though it’s really curious that they may be hoping to expand the game early on, as Legends wasn’t added until later in the game’s runtime. So, we’ll see if this pans out or Sucker Punch might be working on a secret multiplayer title that hasn’t been officially announced as of now. Only time will tell, or at least E3 might.

  • Takashi Doscher to Write ‘Ghost of Tsushima’s Screenplay

Takashi Doscher to Write ‘Ghost of Tsushima’s Screenplay

The Ghost of Tsushima film continues to make progress at Sony Pictures. The game was an instant hit, selling more than 8 million units to date. The IP was fast-tracked to be adapted as a film due to the success which was supported by Sony’s large desire to bring more PlayStation franchises to the big screen. With Uncharted and Ratchet & Clank being the first franchises to get films, they are soon going to follow up with The Last of Us as an HBO series.

Ghost of Tsushima is a samurai adventure game with heavy inspiration from classic samurai films, making it a perfect franchise to adapt to film. It is currently in production at PlayStation Productions and Sony Pictures, which recently tapped Takashi Doscher to pen the screenplay. The writer recently finished Blue, which is still in production. His debut film Still can be found on Hulu today.

With Doscher‘s writing, we now have a pretty good idea of the creative talent producing the film. Chad Stahelski (John Wick) is set to direct. His action and combat scenes, largely considered to be a modern evolution of the genre, should translate well to a samurai action film. So, we might see a great combination of its Akira Kurosawa-inspired roots with a modern twist.

Developed by Sucker Punch Studios, Ghost of Tsushima became one of PlayStation’s most successful IPs practically overnight. The game went on to win multiple awards, including the Player’s Voice award at The Game Awards, an annual award show that celebrates the year in gaming. You can currently check out Ghost of Tsushima, as well as its Iki Island DLC on PS5 and PS4.

  • Chad Stahelski Adapting ‘Ghost of Tsushima’ for Sony Pictures

Chad Stahelski Adapting ‘Ghost of Tsushima’ for Sony Pictures

Sony hasn’t been missing a beat while slowly rolling out cinematic adaptations of their popular video game franchises. The studio has been hard at work bringing multiple fan-favorite projects to life. Their long list of projects includes UnchartedTwisted MetalMetal Gear Solid, which is set to star Oscar Isaac, and The Last of Us. The latter has already added Bella Ramsey and Pedro Pascal as Joel and Ellie to its cast. Now, it seems that Sony is ready to bring one of their most recent success stories to life on the silver screen, Ghost of Tsushima.

Sony Pictures and Sony Productions are developing the story based around the samurai warrior Jin Sakai, who is the last surviving member of his clan. Chad Stahelski has been attached to direct the film. He’s most known for his work on the John Wick franchise and his stunt and fight choreography on Birds of Prey. The project will be produced by Sucker Punch Studios. Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan will be producing on behalf of Playstation Productions with Peter Kang overseeing the project for the studio. Qizilbash had the following to say on the adaptation:

We’re excited to be partnering with Chad and 87Eleven Entertainment, to bring their vision of Jin’s story to the big screen. We love working with creative partners like Chad, who has a passion for our games, ensuring we can create rich adaptations that will excite our fans and new audiences.

Ghost of Tsushima is one of many projects in development at the moment, as Sony PlayStation tries to expand beyond the gaming industry. Currently, the Tom Holland-led Uncharted has wrapped production and we might see many more announcements in the near future.
