Sony hasn’t been missing a beat while slowly rolling out cinematic adaptations of their popular video game franchises. The studio has been hard at work bringing multiple fan-favorite projects to life. Their long list of projects includes Uncharted, Twisted Metal, Metal Gear Solid, which is set to star Oscar Isaac, and The Last of Us. The latter has already added Bella Ramsey and Pedro Pascal as Joel and Ellie to its cast. Now, it seems that Sony is ready to bring one of their most recent success stories to life on the silver screen, Ghost of Tsushima.
Sony Pictures and Sony Productions are developing the story based around the samurai warrior Jin Sakai, who is the last surviving member of his clan. Chad Stahelski has been attached to direct the film. He’s most known for his work on the John Wick franchise and his stunt and fight choreography on Birds of Prey. The project will be produced by Sucker Punch Studios. Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan will be producing on behalf of Playstation Productions with Peter Kang overseeing the project for the studio. Qizilbash had the following to say on the adaptation:
We’re excited to be partnering with Chad and 87Eleven Entertainment, to bring their vision of Jin’s story to the big screen. We love working with creative partners like Chad, who has a passion for our games, ensuring we can create rich adaptations that will excite our fans and new audiences.
Ghost of Tsushima is one of many projects in development at the moment, as Sony PlayStation tries to expand beyond the gaming industry. Currently, the Tom Holland-led Uncharted has wrapped production and we might see many more announcements in the near future.
