Margot Robbie is All In to Explore Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy’s Relationship in Live-Action

Harley Quinn has gone through many iterations throughout the years and became a cornerstone of DC Comics. It’s quite curious if you consider that she wasn’t originally a character introduced as part of the comics but rather the animated series Batman: The Animated Series. Still, she has seen a big surge in popularity when she was brought to live action by the always incredible Margot Robbie.

In an interview with ComicBook.com’s Jamie Jirak, she got the chance to talk about a story line she always wanted to explore in the live-action DC universe and that is Quinn’s romance with Poison Ivy. While it seems there are no exact plans, she’s definitely excited to give that romance a chance eventually in a project.

I have been pushing for that for years, I cannot tell you how hard I’ve pushed for that. I honestly when I picture it, I always picture Poison Ivy in the comics, don’t picture an actress doing it.

    Margot Robbie

The fact she only pictures Poison Ivy from the comics is interesting, but perhaps Jirak‘s question inspired her to explore ideas of who might be perfect int he role. With James Gunn having now taken on this new role as the co-head of DC Studios, perhaps we’ll get a chance to explore this romance sooner rather than later.

  • HBO Max Announces ‘Harley Quinn’ Valentine’s Day Special

HBO Max Announces ‘Harley Quinn’ Valentine’s Day Special

Even with HBO Max’s purge of its many animation offerings, it seems that one series remains strong. DC’s quicky and heavily R-rated Harley Quinn got a new season release but also has a spinoff series in some form of development. Now, it seems they have one more special to surprise us with, as HBO Max has announced that they have a new Valentine’s Day Special set for next year’s February.

    https://twitter.com/dcharleyquinn/status/1578399758535696384

The special will be titled Harley Quinn: A Very Problematic Valentine’s Day Special and has released the following logline to tease what we can expect from the project.

The special will feature Harley and Ivy celebrating their very first Valentine’s Day together, while also revealing how the rest of the ragtag crew spends the gushiest, mushiest, most romantic day of the year

The third season of Harley Quinn has seen quite a successful run with an early fourth season renewal in August. As many DC projects got scrapped left and right, it’s a showcase of just how popular the R-rated project is. There’s still no word though where the Kite Man-focused project currently stands as we haven’t heard if it survived the HBO Max purge. Given the character’s popularity, it does seem safe to say he’ll likely still be chasing his dreams.

  • HBO Max Renews ‘Harley Quinn’ for a Fourth Season, But With a New Showrunner

HBO Max Renews ‘Harley Quinn’ for a Fourth Season, But With a New Showrunner

It’s been a bit doom and gloom over at HBO Max as one series after another has seemingly been taken down or axed wherever the streaming service could. The direction by Warner Bros. Discovery made many wonders what exactly they are hoping to do with the service, especially with a fusion planned with Discovery+. In a way, it hinted at the future of Warner Bros. streaming venture to be less serialized dramas and comedy but more reality TV. Luckily, it seems not everything is lost along the way.

The popular and creative R-rated comedy series Harley Quinn has officially been renewed for a fourth season. While many feared it could be facing a similar fate as other DC projects have as of late, it seems that David Zaslav and his team are quite happy with the viewership the show pulls in. This is quite exciting news, especially with the uncertainty for DC’s future with HBO and HBO Max, as it seems not every show will be lost in the process.

Though not everything remains the same, it looks like the series will have a new showrunner. Writer Sarah Peters will take over and continue the series after writing a few episodes throughout its first seasons and also acting as a consulting producer. Patrick Schumacker and Justin Halpern are stepping down from the role. It’s unclear if they are potentially moving on to a different project in this universe like the confirmed Kite-Man project which is unclear if they are moving forward with it.

  • HBO Max’s ‘Titans’ and ‘Doom Patrol’s on the Chopping Block, ‘Harley Quinn’ Seemingly Safe

HBO Max’s ‘Titans’ and ‘Doom Patrol’s on the Chopping Block, ‘Harley Quinn’ Seemingly Safe

Warner Bros. Discovery is taking a great big axe at everything DC, which has made many wonder what exactly they can expect from the future of this franchise. Batgirl‘s sudden cancelation and the bizarre situation surrounding The Flash have created quite the rift in the franchise’s future. There are also various other shows in some form of production with Doom Patrol, Harley Quinn, Titans, and many more on HBO Max. In a new report by Variety, it does seem that a little glimpse is given in regards to the future of these projects.

First off, and scarily so, it seems that the popular and wildly out there series Doom Patrol is on the chopping block alongside fellow DC Universe series Titans. They have renewed not too long ago and it does seem like the next seasons are likely to release, but anything beyond that remains a mystery for now. Luckily, Harley Quinn is so popular that it’s safe but no word on its Kite Man-focused spinoff. #

Constantine and Madame Xanadu, the two projects of J.J. Abrams prolonged Justice League Dark franchise, are also seemingly still in some form of development. Though whoever is set to spearhead the DC Studio could change that rather fast. For now, we’ll have to see if any of these projects may still see the light of day or if internal reshuffling in the near future could change any plans moving forward.

  • Christina Ricci to Play Harley Quinn in New DC Podcast

Christina Ricci to Play Harley Quinn in New DC Podcast

The Hollywood Reporter has announced that Christina Ricci will be starring in a brand-new podcast from Spotify and Warner Bros. alongside Billy Magnussen and Justin Hartley. Ricci will voice Harley Quinn, while Magnussen will voice The Joker and Hartley will voice Batman. Production is currently underway on the series.

The podcast series, titled Harley Quinn & The Joker: Sound Mind, will tell Harley’s story from her point of view, rather than the Joker’s. It begins with Quinn, still known as Dr. Harleen Quinzel, as she tries to help the patients at Arkham Asylum that the others have given up on helping. Her desire to help others, including her sick father, will see Dr. Quinn make questionable decisions for the sake of others – including building a relationship with a man known as ‘Patient J.’ Her decision to trust him will lead the duo down a dangerous path that will change their lives forever.

This marks the second audio series to be released through the multiyear licensing deal between Spotify and Warner Bros./DC, with Batman Unburied being the first. Batman Unburied, which stars Black Panther actor Winston Duke, has already been renewed for a second season.

Harley Quinn & The Joker: Sound Mind hails from Homecoming’s Eli Horowitz. As of this writing, no release date has been announced.

  • Season 3 of ‘Harley Quinn’ Confirmed for July Debut

Season 3 of ‘Harley Quinn’ Confirmed for July Debut

The third season of Harley Quinn is confirmed to debut this summer.

On Thursday, HBO Max confirmed that Season 3 of Harley Quinn will premiere on the streaming service this July. While the streaming service didn’t announce a specific date release date for the series, it is the first official confirmation that the season is premiering sooner rather than later. For fans of the series, it has been a long wait as Season 2 debuted in 2020.

The third season of Harley Quinn looks to have plenty of surprises in store for fans. James Gunn is confirmed to cameo in the upcoming season, while What We Do in the Shadow‘s Harvey Guillén joins the series as Nightwing. Recording on Season 3 began in February 2021, and showrunner Patrick Schumacker confirmed in March of this year that they’d just finished the first audio mix of the season.

During the long gap between seasons, a six-issue tie-in comic was released titled Harley Quinn: The Animated Series – The Eat. Bang! Kill. Tour. The comic was written by Tee Franklin and drawn by Max Sarin. The comic followed Harley and Poison Ivy following Season 2’s finale as they engaged on a Thelma-and-Louise journey of their own filled with plenty of mishaps.

The first two season of Harley Quinn: The Animated Series are now streaming on HBO Max.

  • Harvey Guillén Joins ‘Harley Quinn’ as Nightwing

Harvey Guillén Joins ‘Harley Quinn’ as Nightwing

Harvey Guillén is on a hot streak, as he’s been cast in quite a few projects over the course of the last few weeks. Not only is he taking on a big role in Puss In Boots: the Last Wish, but now it seems he’s also got his hands on a big animated project. Deadline has just revealed that the actor has joined Harley Quinn in the role of Nightwing. He’ll make his debut in the upcoming third season, which will be when it first gets released on HBO Max.

There currently is no release date, and it’s unclear what direction he is taking with this version of the character. Still, it’s exciting to see the actor’s hot streak after his success working on the FX series What We Do In The Shadows. He’s also finished his work on the series I’m Totally Fine and will also be seen in the upcoming live-action adaptation of the popular DC character Blue Beetle.

We’ve already seen previous members of the Bat-family in the first two seasons. We did meet a version of Robin, who was Damian Wayne. Batman, of course, also had quite the role throughout the series’ run. It’ll be interesting to see if we’ll also meet others from the Bat-family and get to explore their dynamic more in the R-rated series. Plus, a potty mouth version of Nightwing is probably going to be quite hilarious.

  • James Gunn to Cameo in ‘Harley Quinn’ Season 3

James Gunn to Cameo in ‘Harley Quinn’ Season 3

It looks like while we know very little about the upcoming third season of Harley Quinn, we did get one hidden reveal. In the article on the upcoming spinoff focused on Kite Man, it seems that series creator Patrick Schumacker confirmed that James Gunn, who’s a vocal fan of the R-rated series, will appear in the series as himself. Of course, as a director, he will take on some fictional directing duties on one of the Waynes.

He is playing himself, and is directing a movie about Thomas Wayne.

    Patrick Schumacker

The Suicide Squad director is known for his own ventures into an R-rated world. So, he’s the perfect addition to the series and it’ll be fun to keep an eye out for when we might expect him. Thomas Wayne wouldn’t be the film I’d expect him to tackle living in the world of DC, but it would be fun to see some of his usual directing flourishes find their way into the fictional work. Imagine a hard R-rated adaptation of Thomas Wayne’s life, as he sits on his expensive bed in his tidy whities. It’ll be interesting to see if we also get some callbacks to his own DC ventures, especially with the new popularity of Peacemaker.

  • ‘Harley Quinn’s Kite Man Getting a ‘Cheers’-Inspired Own Spinoff

‘Harley Quinn’s Kite Man Getting a ‘Cheers’-Inspired Own Spinoff

Hell Yeah! It looks like the scene-stealing Kite Man is getting his own HBO Max spinoff from the popular R-rated Harley Quinn series. During SXSW’s Not Kidding Around: Warner Bros. Animation and the “Reimagining of Iconic Characters for an Adult audience” panel, series creator Patrick Schumacker has revealed that they are working on a spinoff titled Noonan’s.

The project is in early development, but Kite Man will take center stage in the project as he buys the infamous villain hangout spot Noonan’s Bar in Gotham. Schumacker had the following to say on the spinoff teasing it’ll be strongly inspired by Cheers.

He tries to run the bar by himself but it doesn’t turn out so easy. We have Harley and Ivy appear in the first episode, but after that, we have with different goons and villains appearing every episode like Lex Luthor and Bane. It will be kind of like ‘Cheers’ for supervillains.

  • ‘Harley Quinn’s Started Recording for Its Third Season

‘Harley Quinn’s Started Recording for Its Third Season

DC has been producing a variety of great shows in the last few years. What started with Titans has expanded into a plethora of original productions. They used the opportunity to explore the different aspects of the comic universe. Once Warner Bros. migrated them to HBO Max, we’ve seen a large increase in new shows entering a form of production. Of course, the sophomore series that started on the original DC Universe app is continuing, as well, such as the before-mentioned Titans currently in production.

The stand-out, however, was the R-rated animated comedy Harley Quinn, which saw Kaley Cuoco take on the role of the Joker’s most iconic henchwoman. We got to see her grow into her love the course of two seasons, and many were ecstatic when the third got announced last September. We’ve been anxiously waiting for an update, and it looks like it finally arrived, as executive producer Patrick Schumacker shared an official update on Twitter.

It is great to see the return of Diedrich Bader, Jim Rash, and Chris Meloni, who gave some iconic performances in the last two seasons. The idea of a washed-up Gordon just hanging on as best as he can be a genius interpretation of a commissioner living in the most crime-ridden city of the world. Bader was a perfect choice for this universe’s Batman, especially how much it contrasts the version he played in Batman: The Brave and the Bold. I cannot wait for the next season, especially how they plan to continue where the last one ended.
