‘John Wick 4’ Heading to Franchise’s Best Opening Weekend at the Domestic Box Office

The fourth entry of the John Wick franchise is almost upon us and the early tracking is looking at a promising high-opening weekend that could land anywhere between $60M to $70M. It would continue a strong tentpole spring market that saw some massive openings with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania (ignoring its overall legs, it still is February’s third-highest opening ever), this weekend’s performance of Creed 3 and some surprise players like Cocaine Bear.

John Wick: Chapter 4 may have lost its additional subtitle, but it’s still set for a strong weekend once it releases. Pandemic numbers are still shaky to predict as most box office openings are given mostly conservative estimates; especially by studios. There’s also the factor of a fourth entry in a film commonly being a big question mark for most.

Still, the film is expected to be higher than Parabellum, which opened at $56.8M and managed to leg out to $171M. Worldwide it was the highest grossing of the franchise at around $585M. The appeal of these films seems to be with an otherwise dormant older audience that loves the appeal of this grounded action spectacle, similar to the audience that showed up for Top Gun: Maverick throughout its impressive leggy run. It’ll be interesting if that same appeal will remain for the spinoff Ballerina.

  • Keanu Reeves Exits ‘The Devil in the White City’ at Hulu

Keanu Reeves Exits ‘The Devil in the White City’ at Hulu

Back in August, it was confirmed that Keanu Reeves was set to headline The Devil in the White City for Hulu. The news came after reports suggested Reeves was in talks for the gig back in January. Now, Variety is reporting that Reeves has officially exited the project.

The Devil In The White City was meant to be a big-budget take on the 2003 novel of the same name by author Erik Larson. The book tells the story of two men, an architect (Daniel H. Burnham) and a serial killer (Henry H. Holmes), who soon find their fates forever linked thanks to the Chicago World’s Fair of 1893. Reeves was set to portray Burnham who was described as brilliant and fastidious, desperately seeking to leave his mark on the world. It’s currently unknown as to why Reeves exited the project. At the time of Reeves’ casting, the role of Holmes had not yet been cast.

The adaptation of The Devil in the White City has long been in the works. Leonardo DiCaprio originally purchased the rights to the novel in 2010 with the intent to make it a feature film at Paramount with Martin Scorsese in the director’s chair. While Scorsese is still attached, following the move to Hulu, he’s now only serving as an executive producer alongside DiCaprio. Todd Field (Little Children) was to direct the first two episodes.

Keanu Reeves Joins Hulu’s ‘The Devil In The White City’ for Scorsese, DiCaprio

Keanu Reeves is heading to the small screen.

Per Deadline, the actor is set to star in the adaptation of The Devil In The White City for Hulu. It’s a big-budget take on the 2003 novel of the same name by author Erik Larson. The book tells the story of two men, an architect (Daniel H. Burnham) and a serial killer (Henry H. Holmes), who soon find their fates forever link thanks to the Chicago World’s Fair of 1893. Burnham is described as brilliant and fastidious, desperately seeking to leave his mark on the world, while Holmes is a handsome and cunning doctor who created his own pharmaceutical “Murder Castle” on fairgrounds — a palace is meant to seduce, torture and mutilate young women.

The adaptation has long been in the works. Todd Field (Little Children) is directing the first two episodes. Castle Rock and Manhattan creator Sam Shaw is also working on the adaptation.

This marks the biggest television role for Reeves, who is starring in The Matrix Resurrections. He’s also returning to the John Wick franchise for its fourth installment, set to release next year.

Keanu Reeves Offers Update on Talks with Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige

John Wick and The Matrix‘s Keanu Reeves has been actively talking about his hope of joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe one day. We heard that there were talks between him and Marvel Studios’ president Kevin Feige but it was uncertain what has come of them. Luckily, Phase Zero’s Brandon Davis had the chance to sit down with the actor during his press tour for The Matrix Resurrections, where he revealed that they’ve indeed had talks but that they “don’t have it yet” and they “got to find something.” He is still actively working towards a potential role and

If they still haven’t found the right role as of yet, it might still be quite some time before we see Reeves join the franchise at some point. There was a point when Sony wanted him to tackle the role for the upcoming Kraven the Hunter spinoff series, but it seems unlikely he’ll join a Marvel project that doesn’t involve Feige, who spearheads the MCU. He has been a popular pick to take on the role of Ghost Rider, but it’s uncertain how committed he’d want to be while also juggling his other franchises. Here’s hoping they find the right character sooner rather than later.
