    Zosia Mamet Joins ‘Madame Web’

The cast for the upcoming Madame Web solo film is by far one of the most intriguing things about it, with names such as Dakota Johnson, Emma Roberts, Isabela Merced, and Sydney Sweeney rounding out the cast. Production on the film is currently underway but it seems to cast on the project isn’t over quite yet as Deadline is reporting that Zosia Mamet is joining the cast of the upcoming Sony Marvel film.

Mamet is joining the film in yet another undisclosed role within the film, with the film still shrouded in a mystery as we have yet to hear just who anyone in the film will be playing. It’s speculated that the lead, Dakota Johnson, could be playing the role of Julia Carpenter, the second Madame Webb, after being spotted on set sporting a very familiar red leather jacket.

Madame Webb will be the franchise’s first female protagonist and one of the next entries in the Sony universe of Marvel characters, set to release following Kraven The Hunter in 2023. The original character in the comics was known as Cassandra Webb, who confided to a spider-web-shaped life support machine. Webb was blind and had psychic abilities and clairvoyance that allowed her to watch over the Spider-Verse and was a key part of the original comic event.

Madame Webb is currently set to hit theaters on October 6th, 2023, and will be directed by S.J. Clarkson who previously worked on Marvel series like The Defenders and Jessica Jones for Netflix.

  • Latest ‘Madame Web’ Set Photos Offer First Look at Adam Scott

Latest ‘Madame Web’ Set Photos Offer First Look at Adam Scott

Madame Web remains a web of mystery as we try to figure out what exactly Sony’s endgame is here and where they are heading with their Spider-Man universe that doesn’t actually feature the webhead. They have quite a few projects in some form of development, but the one to currently stand out is the mysterious Madame Web.

Hinted at as their take on Doctor Strange, it may actually be used as a different kind of film altogether. There’s no clear hint at if this might be the film to introduce us to Sony’s version of Spider-Man, may it be someone new or even familiar. Yet, the casting of Adam Scott had many thinking that perhaps he’s the one to take on the mantle in this project. While we don’t get any clarification, we do get our first look at Scott in some new set photos.

As these photos were shared by Just Jared, we can’t share them here but you can check them out by clicking here.

It definitely isn’t revealing anything as he’s wearing some casual clothes. Though his style isn’t something that a Spider-Man wouldn’t wear. The idea of an older version of the character is definitely an interesting choice; even if Tobey Maguire is also around the same age.

Who knows if they actually explore the multiverse and we’re introduced to a variety of Peter Parkers throughout the film’s runtime. Whatever direction they are taking, it’ll definitely be interesting to see how it comes together once we get some more official information on the project.

  • New ‘Madame Web’ Set Photos Offer Closer Look at Dakota Johnson

New ‘Madame Web’ Set Photos Offer Closer Look at Dakota Johnson

Madame Web is quite the weeb of mysteries. Not only is Sony’s general direction with its Spider-Man franchise sans Spider-Man heading in a questionable direction, but it also seemingly is trying to set up something. Morbius‘ post-credit sequence hinted at some kind of team-up but even forcefully pulled Michael Keaton‘s Vulture into the multiverse to do so. Now, we also have a story focused on a primarily minor supporting character that weaved throughout the Spider-Verse.

While we still question just how this project is going to come together but the casting of Dakota Johnson in the titular role is something to be excited about. We had a glimpse of set photos hinting at an early 2000s version of the story but the latest set photo offers our closest look yet at her in costume. Well, she’s wearing a red jacket over some regular clothing but it’s at least something to talk about.

There have been hints that this story might actually be something very different from what we’re expecting; that is hard to define, to begin with. Given her connection to the multiverse, it may potentially be an element that will lead to the recently announced Avengers: Secret Wars. There have been slight hints at a connection to Marvel Studios, but with Kevin Feige mostly having a supporting role over at Sony by consulting on projects, it’s unclear if that may have caused some confusion. Yet, there’s potential with this project and we’ll see if future looks behind the scenes make it clearer what exactly is heading our way.

  • ‘Madame Web’ Set Video May Confirm Dakota Johnson as Julia Carpenter

‘Madame Web’ Set Video May Confirm Dakota Johnson as Julia Carpenter

Filming for Sony’s latest Marvel project, Madame Web, is currently underway in Boston, and a new video from the set may have finally confirmed who Dakota Johnson is playing. The film’s titular character is traditionally portrayed as an elderly woman confined to a magically extravagant chair, so the casting of Johnson as the lead has perplexed fans since the news of her involvement broke in February. Rumors have circulated for months that the former 50 Shades of Grey star might be playing a different iteration of Madame Web than longtime Spider-Man readers are accustomed to seeing, and the latest footage from the set has likely confirmed this to be the case.

The outfit worn by Johnson in the video is clearly a match for the character Julia Carpenter, who has a long history in Marvel comics. Carpenter was introduced in 1984’s famous Secret Wars story as the second Spider-Woman, after Jessica Drew, having obtained spider-like abilities from a secret government experiment. The heroine would appear on-and-off in Spider-Man comics for the next handful of decades, until she made the transition from Spider-Woman to Madame Web in 2010. She gained the latter’s clairvoyant powers as the original Madame Web perished, and chose Carpenter as her successor.

Madame Web is in production under the direction of S.J. Clarkson, and has thus far assembled a fairly impressive cast. Aside from Johnson, audiences will also see Sydney Sweeney, Adam Scott, Isabela Merced, Emma Roberts, and Mike Epps appear in the film. It’s still unknown who any of the other stars will be playing, but Johnson‘s seemingly confirmed role as Carpenter may give fans a hint as to the direction the story will be going.

  • Sony Delays Upcoming ‘Spider-Man’ Spinoff ‘Madame Web’

Sony Delays Upcoming ‘Spider-Man’ Spinoff ‘Madame Web’

Sony is going all out when it comes to expanding their Spider-Verse without the iconic Spider-Man, as multiple films based on many of the characters within the wide library of characters Sony has at their disposal in the works. One of the projects with the most interest looks to be the upcoming Madame Web solo films, but it seems like fans are gonna have to wait just a little bit longer to dive into another corner of their new Marvel expansion.

Borys Kit of The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Sony has delayed the upcoming Spider-Man spin-off film, Madame Web, from its previously set date of July 7th, 2023 back a few months to October 6th, 2023. The film just recently started filming in Boston, with set photos giving us a first look at the film that looks to be set within the early 2000s.

On top of the current delay for Madame Web, Sony has pushed back an untitled Marvel film that previously held the October 6th date and will now release said untitled film to June 7th, 2024. It’s unknown just what that film is, but it seems possible to be the currently untitled sequel to Venom: Let There Be Carnage.

While many of what Sony has released under their banner of Marvel films has not been entirely well received, the cast for Madame Web has many people quite excited with the likes of Dakota Johnson, Sydney Sweeney, Emma Roberts, Isabel Merced, Mike Epps, Celeste O’Connor, Tahar Rahim, and most recently Adam Scott.

  • Adam Scott Joins Cast of ‘Madame Web’

Adam Scott Joins Cast of ‘Madame Web’

The cast of Madame Web continues to grow in recognizable star power. Fresh off his Emmy nomination for his lead performance in Apple’s hit series Severance, Adam Scott has joined the cast of Sony’s latest Marvel film. Sony declined to comment on the news and the nature of Scott’s role remains unknown at this time. Madame Web will features Dakota Johnson’s portrayal of the titular character alongside the likes of Sydney Sweeney, Celeste O’Connor, Isabela Merced, Emma Roberts, and Tahar Rahim. The film is being directed by S.J. Clarkson and currently is in production in Boston, Massachusetts.

Not much is known about what this film will ultimately be about as the character of Madame Web hasn’t had much of anything in the way of a solo-based story in the comics. Industry insiders have speculated that this film will seeJohnson’s character essentially become the Sony version of Doctor Strange and tie into Spider-Man’s connection to the multiverse. Meanwhile, it’s also been suggested that Madame Web could end up being some different, secret project (whatever that may mean). Recent set photos revealed a probable early-2000s New York City setting for at least part of the film (which could hint at this film connecting with the Sam Raimi-directed universe of Spider-Man).

In addition, there have been some rumblings that Marvel Studios is involved with this film in some way. If this is accurate, it has the potential to be game changing both in terms of how the greater ensemble of Spider-Man characters could connect to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and for the working relationship between Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures.

  • First ‘Madame Web’ Set Photos Hint at Early 2000s NYC

First ‘Madame Web’ Set Photos Hint at Early 2000s NYC

We just recently heard that production has already started on Sony’s Madame Web film. Sydney Sweeney revealed it in a brief interview and right after, it seems we already got our first look at the set. It seems that Sony is turning Boston into New York City of the early 200s0s as shared by Boston’s Kevin Slane. It’s certainly an interesting choice and could be our first hint at where the project is going, most certainly given the connection between Tobey Maguire‘s Spider-Man having released around that time.

There’s no confirmation that this is definitely going to tie together, but it’s definitely something interesting to note given the time period. Madame Web has a close connection to the Spider-Verse and it would be a fun way to mix up what we’d initially expect from the Sony film. With hints that Marvel Studios is potentially involved as well, they may be using this opportunity to pull in the characters they’d want to include in a potential multiverse-focused Avengers storyline.

If they do manage to tease a connection similar to Morbius, who knows if this might connect to those films. Aaron Taylor-Johnson has also taken on the role of Kraven the Hunter which may tie in some way or another to whatever Sony has planned. The post-credit sequence confirmed Vulture is stuck in another dimension and Venom also exists within that timeline, but there are still many questions surrounding how it might all tie together. We can only speculate for now.

  • ‘Madame Web’ Star Confirms Production Start on Sony’s Latest Marvel Movie

‘Madame Web’ Star Confirms Production Start on Sony’s Latest Marvel Movie

Many are still scratching their head on what exactly a Madame Web film would be about. While the character is a mainstay in the Marvel universe, or rather the Spider-Verse, it does seem strange to focus a story on a character that was mainly there for exposition. Either way, Sony is in full force on the project and according to actress Sydney Sweeney, they may have already started production.

In an interview with Variety, the actress shared that she has already started working on Madame Web alongside her co-stars, which consists of quite the stack cast. Dakota Johnson will play the titular role, and they are joined by Isabel Merced, Emma Roberts, Tahar Rahim, Celeste O’Connor, just recently Mike Epps, and more.

Currently I’m filming Madame Web. And I can’t really say anything about my character, but I’m very excited. My first Marvel movie. So it’s been a lot of fun, a lot of training and just prep work to get into it.

    Syney Sweeney

With even hints that Madame Web may even have Marvel Studios backing it, the project could potentially tie into the multiverse storyline currently being told. It would be quite fun if they end up connecting this to whatever the studio currently has planned, and use it as a gateway to introduce characters they’d otherwise never get around to. Of course, we can only speculate but with Sony’s habits, you never know what a new Spider-Man universe entry might mean moving forward.

  • ‘Madame Web’ Adds ‘The Upshaw’s Mike Epps

‘Madame Web’ Adds ‘The Upshaw’s Mike Epps

It looks like the Madame Weeb film has added one more to its cast in the form of The UpshawsMike Epps. The upcoming project from Jessica Jones‘ S.J. Clarkson already added Dakota Johnson in the titular role joined by Sydney Sweeney, Isabela Merced, Emma Roberts, Tahar Rahim, and Celeste O’Connor. Little is known about the Spider-Man spinoff but there have been hints it might be Sony’s answer to Doctor Strange and actively a unique project under a different mask.

There’s still a lot of uncertainty surrounding what exactly Sony’s endgame is with their various projects. We got a rather awkward post-credits sequence with Morbius meeting Vulture from the mainline MCU timeline. It’s never explained why he’s brought into a different dimension and perhaps they’ll use Madame Web’s connection to the Spider-Verse as a way to explain that very connection.

The big question is also who is the Spider-Man of Sony’s universe. They seemingly hint that it’s not going to be Tom Holland, who still remains as part of the mainline MCU. So, perhaps they are bringing back a familiar face. Yet, they could also be adding someone new to take on the role, especially with the possibility of having Miles Morales take on the mantle. It’s only speculation but we’ll see if Madame Web might finally answer these questions.

  • ‘The Walking Dead’ Cinematographer Joins Sony’s ‘Madame Web’, Hints at Marvel Studios’ Involvement

‘The Walking Dead’ Cinematographer Joins Sony’s ‘Madame Web’, Hints at Marvel Studios’ Involvement

Sony has been busy preparing work on their upcoming Madame Web film, which will see an all-star cast consisting of Dakota Johnson, Sydney Sweeney, Emma Roberts, and Isabela Merced. Jessica JonesS.J. Clarkson will spearhead the project and direct the film based on a screenplay by Kerem Sanga, Matt Sazaa, and Burk Sharpless. Now, it seems that The Walking Dead cinematographer Duane Charles Manwiller has not only confirmed his involvement but added someone else’s as well.

Manwiller has seemingly added to his Instagram account that he is actively working on the latest Spider-Man spinoff film from Sony that will likely not feature the webhead. After Venom, Morbius and the still in-production Kraven the Hunter, Sony has been trying to get its own franchise running. Yet, which might surprise many, Manwiller may have hinted that Marvel Studios is also involved with the production.

There have been rumors that Olivia Wilde‘s unconfirmed Spider-Woman film would also be co-produced by Marvel Studios, as she hinted at Kevin Feige‘s involvement. Perhaps he’s started taking a more active role in these projects, but there’s no real confirmation on how the project will come together. If it is indeed under Marvel studios’ umbrella, we’ll likely get the logo included with the official reveal. Yet, there’s also a chance he simply added it in as it seemed to be part of the co-production that Tom Holland is leading.
