BREAKING: Original ‘Deadpool’ Writers Return to Work on ‘Deadpool 3’s Script

Mere minutes after the news broke that Shawn Levy is in negotiations to direct the upcoming third entry of Deadpool, it seems there’s a bit more to the story. While the report still confirms that Wendy and Lizzie Molyneux are still involved in writing the script, it seems that some veterans of the franchise are back. the Hollywood Reporter’s Aaron Couch has shared an additional detail that Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, who wrote the first two installments, are also back to work on the third entry.

The original article has also been updated which reveals that these writers are also adding their own input to the script. It’s unsure why they are suddenly involved, but it’s not uncommon for Marvel Studios to have multiple writers tackle a script throughout its development process. Perhaps due to their history with the originals, they might just add some elements to keep the character consistent throughout the projects as its leading star Ryan Reynolds has also actively been involved with the script.

So, we shouldn’t take this as them being unhappy with the initial version but rather part of their process as they get external thoughts in, especially with it involving the writers of the original. It’ll be interesting to see how they tackle the project and if we’ll hear about how much the Molyneux sisters are still involved. It’s motivating to see that the project is moving forward and further adds to a feeling for when we might expect it’s release.

  • BREAKING: ‘The Adam Project’s Shawn Levy to Direct ‘Deadpool 3’

BREAKING: ‘The Adam Project’s Shawn Levy to Direct ‘Deadpool 3’

It’s been long theorized given just how closely Ryan Reynolds has worked with director Shawn Levy on projects like Free Guy and Netflix’s The Adam Project, but we finally got the confirmation. Levy is in negotiations to tackle the third entry in the Deadpool franchise, which will see Wade Wilson join the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Reynolds has been working on the script alongside Bob’s Burger‘s Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Logelin.

In a way, Reynolds and Levy have not been subtle about hints that these negotiations were potentially already happening. He takes over from Tim Miller, who directed the first entry in 2016, and David Leitch who took over the sequel. Sadly, there is still no release date included and no word when we might expect it to enter production for now.

It has been confirmed that the film will be R-rated and it’ll be interesting to see how Levy tackles a project like that given his background with more PG-13 fair. With Disney+ adding mature content like Daredevil, Iron Fist, and more, there’s a good chance that the future MCU entry from Deadpool may also eventually find its way to the service. We’ll see if its potential success may also draw the interest of Disney to further explore other R-rated content. For now, let’s just hope that having a director attach may kickstart production sooner rather than later.

  • ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ Production Eyeing Reshoots in the Coming Weeks

‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ Production Eyeing Reshoots in the Coming Weeks

Here’s some interestingly hidden information. Tucked away in The Wrap’s article on Disney’s John Carter box office bomb, there’s a brief statement on how Marvel Studios has made reshoots part of its production schedule no matter the project. In addition, they reveal that Taika Waititi‘s Thor: Love and Thunder is going back for additional photography in the next few weeks. There’s no word for how long but the timing is interesting considering it is still planning on releasing on July 8th.

It’s not uncommon that reshoots have just a few months before the film releases, especially as we don’t know what exactly the scope is for the production. Marvel Studios has standardized this practice for all its films, as it gives them a chance to refocus or tighten up specific scenes. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness also underwent reshoots to add scenes for characters that initially faced scheduling issues.

There’s no mention of what or for how long Thor: Love and Thunder will undergo but we’ll have to see. There’s always a chance they are aiming to add some scenes or even refine action elements. These films also undergo testings that help the creative team get a feeling for what works for audiences and what doesn’t. Who knows if Waititi just had some fun ideas that he is dying to add into the film.

  • ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ Almost Featured a Comic-Accurate Lizard

‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ Almost Featured a Comic-Accurate Lizard

There’s something rather fun about looking back at a film and how it may have changed throughout production. Spider-Man: No Way Home is no exception, as concept art finding its way online offering a glimpse at how they brought the designs from previous Spider-Man films to a new era. Yet, it seems that one of the members may have looked quite a bit different.

The Amazing Spider-Man‘s Lizard makes his return after Rhys Ifans played the character back in 2012. He had the same design in the threequel, but it seems that they’ve considered giving him a more comic-accurate design at some point. Ian Joyner shared some artwork offering a glimpse at a very different Lizard wearing his purple pants, lab coat, and a stronger reptilian face.

The design looks great but probably wouldn’t have fit with the character talking throughout the film. Plus, you do lose that charm of his original design as they changed quite a bit with Elektro. So, it would be a shame if both Andrew Garfield‘s villains got a complete redesign while Tobey Maguire‘s remained mostly the same. Hopefully, we do get to see a horror-themed film with Spidey as he takes down Lizard. He is about to enter college and meet a new Dr. Curt Conners and knowing what happens to him, it seems like Parker would be the one to accidentally push him to still end up the way he would throughout the multiverse.

  • Christopher Abbott Joins ‘Kraven the Hunter’ as its Main Villain

Christopher Abbott Joins ‘Kraven the Hunter’ as its Main Villain

Sony has been on a roll with their casting for the upcoming Kraven the Hunter spinoff film, which will star Aaron Taylor-Johnson in the titular role. It looks like they have now found its main villain in Christopher Abbott, who will play The Foreigner, one of Spider-Man’s iconic villains. Alessandro Nivola has also recently joined the project in a villainous role but seems like it’ll be mainly a supporting antagonist role from the looks of it.

We don’t know how the film will tackle Kraven’s early days and if it somehow builds up towards his eventual hunt for the Spider-Man. Abbott joined a cast consisting of Ariana DeBose, previously-mentioned Nivola, Fred Hechinger, and Russell Crowe. It’s quite the stacked cast for J.C. Chandor‘s next feature film based on a screenplay by Art Marcum and Matt Holloway.

The addition of The Foreigner is quite interesting, as the character isn’t among the most well-known characters from Spider-man’s rogue gallery. He does actually have a history with Kraven in the comics, and his brother the Chameleon. Deadline seems to think this might be the set-up for the character moving forward, who might have a larger role moving forward. Abbott recently got a Golden Globe nomination for his work on Catch-22, and is a great addition to the cast.

  • New Rumors Place The Scarlet Witch at the Center of Two Upcoming MCU Projects

New Rumors Place The Scarlet Witch at the Center of Two Upcoming MCU Projects

Elizabeth Olsen spent most of 2020 and much of 2021 inhabiting the role of Wanda Maximoff as the actress moved directly from production of WandaVision into production on Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. After having some time off from Marvel Studios, new rumors point to Olsen’s schedule getting pretty full again in the near future.

According to a scooper MyTimetoShineHello, Marvel Studios is keen to get Olsen back in action in a big way following her next appearance in the Strange sequel. The scooper claims that Wanda stans will get to see the Scarlet Witch in not only an adaptation of Alan Heinberg’s limited series, Avengers: The Children’s Crusade, but also in a solo Scarlet Witch project. Though the scoops indicated both projects are in development, no additional information was given about the order in which they might appear or whether they are intended to end up as streaming series or theatrical releases.

Given the rumors about Wanda’s character arc in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, an adaptation of The Children’s Crusade seems like the perfect handoff for the character. The 9-issue event sees one of Wanda’s sons, Billy, go in search of his missing mother as he starts to realize the full potential of his own, potentially dangerous powers. Billy teams up with his brother, Tommy, and other members of the Young Avengers to track down Wanda who is spending time with one of Marvel’s most wonderful characters: Victor Von Doom. As with most things, MCU, it’s highly unlikely that Marvel Studios The Children’s Crusade would be a direct adaptation of the event.

The Scarlet Witch solo project, should it come after The Children’s Crusade, could take inspiration from James Robinson’s 2016 Marvel Comic’s series, The Scarlet Witch, and take Wanda on a journey of discovery of just what being her generation’s Scarlet Witch entails.

  • ‘Blue Beetle’ Adds Bruna Marquezine and Belissa Escobedo

‘Blue Beetle’ Adds Bruna Marquezine and Belissa Escobedo

Things seem to be ramping up behind the scenes on Blue Beetle, as the film continues to add more names to its cast. It was just announced that What We Do In The Shadows star Harvey Guillén has joined the Xolo Mariduena-led project in a key role. Yet, they aren’t stopping there, as a few more names have just been announced. The Wrap is reporting that Bruna Marquezine and Belissa Escobedo have joined Blue Beetle. Marquezine is reportedly playing the female lead and love interest to Mariduena‘s Jaime. Her character will be named Penny. Escobedo is set to play Milagros Reyes, Jaimes’ younger sister.

Belissa Escobedo is best known for her role in American Horror Stories and has just finished filming on the sequel for Hocus Pocus 2. Bruna Marquezine has worked on a variety of projects, which include God Save the King and Conquest. Angel Manuel Soto will direct the film with a script from Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer who previously wrote Universal’s Scarface reboot. The film is set to release on August 18th, 2023. Initially, it was a streaming exclusive for HBO Max but was changed to theatrical to the delight of many.

Blue Beetle will follow the third incarnation of the character, Jaime Reyes. The character made his first debut back in 2006 during the Infinite Crisis event before going on to get his own solo title. We know very little about how the upcoming film will adapt the character’s origins, or even if they might mix it up with hints at him getting a mentor in the form of a former Blue Beetle.

  • New ‘Shang-Chi’ Concept Art Includes Deadpool Fighting Proxima Night

New ‘Shang-Chi’ Concept Art Includes Deadpool Fighting Proxima Night

We know that Marvel Studios invests a lot of time in creating concept art for various versions of the scripts to help its writers get a feeling for how these projects come together. Sometimes it offers a look behind-the-scenes on what ideas were pitched throughout the development, and it seems that a new piece of concept art from Andrew Kim reveals a different battle in the fighting cage sequence of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. While we got Wong fighting Abomination in the film, it seems that at one point it included a battle between Avengers: Infinity War‘s Proxima Midnight and Deadpool.

    Env_SiFanNightClub_v007_WIP_NewFightArenaPOV_190904_AK.jpg

It’s unclear if this was just drawn for fun, as Proxima Midnight not only died in Infinity War but even got snapped again in Avengers: Endgame. So, her inclusion in Golden Daggers Club makes less sense than the fourth-wall-breaking merch with a mouth. While it may have been jarring to see him included, especially with the character’s connection to the Fox universe. So, even if this isn’t just a joke by the artist, it may have been a bit jarring to suddenly see him show up out of nowhere for some fans.

Sadly, it seems very unlikely that this was ever planned, and the inclusion of Abomination was a great move, especially with his confirmed appearance in She-Hulk. Plus, we got some fun with Wong that opened up a lot of questions about what the future has in store for these characters. A sudden return of Proxima Midnight might have many scratching their head, though Deadpool could’ve dragged her from the multiverse for fun. It might’ve been too distracting in the middle of a new solo film that would have distracted viewers. Still, it’s a great looking concept art and hopefully we get to revisit this cage fight at a later point.

  • Paul Rudd Spotted in First ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’ Set Photos

Paul Rudd Spotted in First ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’ Set Photos

We’ve gotten quite a few set photos over the last few months. Most notably, DC’s upcoming HBO Max original film Batgirl has seen quite a bit leaked. On the Marvel side of things, it has calmed down quite a bit. That was until now, as first set photos of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania have surfaced online featuring Paul Rudd. As first noticed by @AntManNews, The Daily Mail has shared quite a few shots from the actor in civilian clothes walking around, while nothing “heroic” is happening in any of these scenes and we don’t get a look at his potential new costume, Lang has his usual goofy smile while buying some coffee.

That is not all, as more set photos have found their way online that feature people noticing Scott Lang on his way to grabbing a coffee. After the events of Avengers: Endgame, he might have become somewhat of a celebrity. It also fits with him being featured in the Roger musical during Hawkeye. Of course, it also may have been a play on the fact that he was there as a result of time travel.

It’s great to finally see something from the Ant-Man sequel, as it’s been surprisingly quiet. Peyton Reed initially shared a picture from the Volume teasing production start, but we’ve heard very little about the film. Kang the Conqueror is confirmed to make his debut–if you don’t count a Variant–and Bill Murray recently spoiled that he’s in the film as a villain. So, we’ll see if these set photos might be the first of many to head our way, as we also see the rest of the cast on set.

  • Sebastian Stan Shares His Thoughts on ‘Captain America 4’

Sebastian Stan Shares His Thoughts on ‘Captain America 4’

Not too long after The Falcon and the Winter Soldier introduced Anthonie Mackie‘s Sam Wilson as the new Captain America of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the fourth entry in the film franchise was announced. We haven’t heard much on that project since, but it has been a promising addition to see more of Wilson’s take on the heroic role. In a recent interview, Mackie’s co-star Sebastian Stan shared his thoughts on the upcoming sequel and made a curious Rocky Balboa comparison.

But I’m very excited for that movie and I think he’s going to be great. He’s going to add a whole different feel to that idea. It kind of reminds me a little bit of Rocky, in some ways.

    Sebastian Stan

In the past, there have been many hints that Wilson’s time in the cowl will be closer to an underdog story, especially with its stronger cultural exploration. We may have gotten a hint in the Disney+ series that’ll get expanded once the film releases. We’ve still been waiting for any updates or news on how far along the film is. Back in August, we reported that it may be eyeing a June production start. So, we might get some casting news in the coming months if that is still accurate.
