  • ‘Kraven The Hunter’ Finds Its Villain in Alessandro Nivola

‘Kraven The Hunter’ Finds Its Villain in Alessandro Nivola

Sony’s upcoming Spider-Man spinoff film focused on Kraven the Hunter has found its villain. Alessandro Nivola, who many might know from The Many Saints of Newark, has joined the project as its main villain. Sadly, there are still no details on which character he might be playing, but he joins a stacked cast that consists of Ariana DeBose, Russell Crowe, and Fred Hechinger. Aaron Taylor Johnson will take on the mantle of the main character.

The J.C. Chandor directed film will explore the origin of one of Spider-Man’s most iconic villains but there’s no word if the webhead might join at a point as well. Most of their spinoffs, like Venom or the upcoming Morbius, have mostly relied on references but didn’t actually feature a version of the friendly neighborhood Spideys.

Venom was confirmed as part of the multiverse, which managed to separate the MCU version starring Tom Holland from the rest of the universe. Yet, Morbius‘ addition of Michael Keaton‘s Toomes has added some confusion to the mix, especially with one trailer explicitly referencing Venom. So, we’ll see if Sony has any plans in the near future.

After their success with Spider-Man: No Way Home, it wouldn’t be too surprising that they’re all in with more spinoff films heading our way. With an all-star cast, the film does offer some possibility to explore the character of Kraven in a new way. Curious enough, early rumors hinting at him becoming the main antagonist of No Way Home, but guess the new multiversal direction fast-tracked the separate film franchise.

  • Marvel Studios Approached Park Seo-Joon to Join ‘The Marvels’

Marvel Studios Approached Park Seo-Joon to Join ‘The Marvels’

Back in June, a rumor dropped that South Korean actor Park Seo-Joon was cast in the Captain Marvel sequel, which would eventually take on the name The Marvels. There was no word on what role he may have taken on, but he was the second Korean actor to join an MCU project, as Ma Dong-Seok had a leading role as Gilgamesh in Eternals. The actor has been silent on his role, but has now given some insight into how he joined the film in an interview with The Guardian.

When I first heard that the Marvel Cinematic Universe wanted to speak with me, I couldn’t believe it. I actually couldn’t believe it. I’m not someone who has a fear of challenges, but whether I am filming in South Korea or abroad, everything is a challenge for me. So, I did feel some nerves at first. But everyone was so helpful and welcoming that I was able to find my feet really quickly.

So, it looks like he was approached by Marvel Studios for a role in the film. The actor is still not revealing which role he has in the upcoming film, which still is keeping many of its story elements under wraps. To be fair, there’s also a lot of time to go until it finally releases but we’ll see if the first trailer might give us our first hint at the South Korean actor’s role.

  • ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ Concept Art Offers Best Look Yet at the Film’s Final Suit

‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ Concept Art Offers Best Look Yet at the Film’s Final Suit

Ryan Meinerding, who is the Creative Director and Head of Visual Development at Marvel Studios, took to his Instagram account to share a full look at the final costume worn by Tom Holland‘s Peter Parker in the final moments of the film. After leaving the Stark-designed costumes behind, his new costume was homemade but still took in some inspirations from not only his original costume but also the ones that Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield wore.

The design still looks fantastic, especially how it embraces the original red-and-blue that made the character iconic. While personally, the blue material stuck out a bit during the sequence, you can clearly see the inspiration and why they went in that direction. It is a shame that the films are moving away from the unique Spidey symbol they had throughout the initial trilogy, but it makes sense that he wants to rebrand after leaving everything behind.

AS the costume is handmade by Peter Parker, we shouldn’t expect as many neat gimmicks in future entries. He’ll likely have to build whatever he needs to take on specific villains, but we’re still waiting for any clear news of what the future has in store for the character. Kevin Feige did hint that we’ll get a fourth entry in the franchise, but it’s still a question of time for when that might be.

  • First Look at ‘Multiverse of Madness’ Defender Strange Funko

First Look at ‘Multiverse of Madness’ Defender Strange Funko

Earlier today, it seemed like the Funkos for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness may have accidentally leaked early. It included most of the faces we’ve already seen in the first two trailers, but also included some new surprises like a Variant of Doctor Strange that was quite a bit different from the ones we saw in the trailers. Now, it seems that we finally got a first look at the Funko for the Defender Variant of Strange, as it was shared by @DrStrangeUpdate, which you can check out here:

This design is still amazing in how accurate it adapts the iconic version of Doctor Strange from the comics. Even the name is in reference to his time as part of the Defenders, which many might connect to the Netflix version. His roe in the story still remains quite unclear but it does seem to imply something dark happening to the character given the strange Zombie version at the end looking quite similar to that Defender wears throughout the trailers.

He also is noticeably absent during the meeting with the Illuminati that is teased in the trailer. Plus, we got a third – maybe even a fourth given the recent Funko reveals – Variant that has an unknown role. Here’s hoping we get to see all three in the same room. Benedict Cumberbatch probably had a lot of fun acting off of himself and give different perspectives on the same character.

  • West Side Story’s Ariana DeBose Joins ‘Kraven the Hunter’

West Side Story’s Ariana DeBose Joins ‘Kraven the Hunter’

Ariana DeBose stunned critics and audiences with her role as Anita in Stephen Spielberg’s West Side Story, winning the SAG Award for Best Supporting Actress and earning an Oscar nomination for the same role. Now, DeBose will step into the world of comic book adaptations as she boards Sony’s Kraven the Hunter.

According to a trade report, DeBose will play voodoo priestess Calypso, a role for which Jodi Turner-Smith had previously been rumored. Calypso and Kraven shared a highly antagonistic relationship in the comics that often saw the hunter driven into fits of rage by the manipulations of Calypso, who also created potions for Kraven to augment his strength.

DeBose joins Aaron Taylor-Johnson, who landed the lead as Kraven late last year, Fred Hechinger, who recently joined the film as Kraven’s brother, the Chameleon, and Russell Crowe, who will play the father of the two men. Kraven the Hunter, directed by J.C. Chandor, is due in theaters next January.

  • What ‘Daredevil’ and Co.’s Disney+ Addition Might Mean for Marvel Studios’ Future

What ‘Daredevil’ and Co.’s Disney+ Addition Might Mean for Marvel Studios’ Future

It’s been long-rumored now since the Marvel Netflix series like Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and more are making their way to Disney+. After many back-and-forths online, the confirmation has finally arrived, as they dropped a sudden teaser that they are joining the series on March 16th. The big takeaway is that the streaming service is embracing more mature content without restricting it to other services, especially as they went out of their way to offer bundles with Hulu. Yet, this addition might have bigger implications for Marvel Studios’ future ventures.

The timing for these additions is perfect with a darker-toned Moon Knight just on the horizon. Not just that, but it also means that older R-rated projects like Blade, Deadpool, Logan, or more can get added soon. Not just that, we know that Deadpool 3 is going to be an R-rated project and now we don’t have to worry about it potentially landing on Hulu. It’ll be part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and it would’ve been a shame if it wasn’t going to be part of the showcase in Disney+.

The streamer was showcased as an “archive” for classic projects from Marvel, Pixar, and any other Disney brand. So, its family-friendly focus is not only restrictive from an archival standpoint but also creatively. They lost a lot of projects early on due to this restriction, such as the Lizzie McGuire revival and pushing the Love Simon spinoff, Love Victor, to Hulu. While it seems unlikely we’ll get an R-rated Pixar film any time soon, Marvel and Star Wars are very different stories. This move might be an implication that Disney+ Original projects will no longer fully adhere to the streaming’s initial set-up.

Marvel may be able to fully embrace the darker and more mature tones that upcoming projects may have. Moon Knight is a big implication of Disney+ maturing, which we’ve talked bout here, but it also means R-rated projects are a possibility. The long-rumored Werewolf by Night project can embrace the darker aspects of having a werewolf-centric story. Their Blade remake might also start moving towards an R-rating, as there are no longer concerns about streaming availability being restricted to specific services.

There’s also the continuation to keep in mind, as we know Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio returned in the roles they made famous. Rumors are hinting at a new Daredevil revival, which now can embrace the darker story arcs introduced through the Netflix incarnations. There are more mature storylines possible now that the glass ceiling has been broken. It may be a small step for now, but once Deadpool or Logan get added with the parent control sometime in the future, we might be able to see the first steps for a new MCU.

  • ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ Funkos Leak Early With Some New Faces

‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ Funkos Leak Early With Some New Faces

It looks like the Funko Pops for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness have leaked early featuring most of the cast that we’ve already seen in the trailers and teased throughout. We’ve been expecting an official announcement today, but it seems like they accidentally leaked early. popnewws_ shared the various photos that were posted on the site The Mighty Shop.

    https://www.instagram.com/p/Caka9C1JIo_/?utm_medium=copy_link

Yet, others have also found their way online featuring some new characters like Supreme Strange, who doesn’t have a resemblance to the Defender version of the evil version we saw. What sticks out is that this is the first version of Strange that doesn’t have his signature goatee. Perhaps he’s an earlier version of one of the Strange that would get affected by some changes. Or, he’s the version that joins the Illuminati that was teased in the latest trailer. There’s also a new character named Sara included, who might be Sara Wolfe.

There are definitely some more Funko Pops that won’t release after the film had a few weeks in theaters. Even now, we’re only just getting a Funko Pop for Matt Murdock, which will even include the brick he caught during his cameo in the film. The fact that the Supreme version is included has us scratching our head though given that the character was never even teased, the same going for Sara. Perhaps an upcoming teaser trailer will include them or they are purposefully here to make you question who and what role they might have. For now, it’s all we can really do.

  • Patrick Stewart Confirms ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ Super Bowl Trailer Appearance

Patrick Stewart Confirms ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ Super Bowl Trailer Appearance

It’s been pretty obvious that Patrick Stewart‘s short voice cameo in the Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness Super Bowl trailer may have broken the Internet. He was long rumored to appear, and Marvel Studios knew exactly how to embrace it to get people even more riled up for the project. At first, the actor denied that being his voice but in an interview with Jake’s Takes he finally confirmed that the voice and earlobe we see during the trailer belong to him.

actually didn’t recognize my own voice, it sounded different. Whether I had a cold or something at the time, I don’t know. But I was astonished, and all they saw was the back of my shoulder, and I think my earlobe, nothing else. There would have been so many connections made. But, uh, it pleased me.

    Patrick Stewart

I think many of us have automatically made the connection that it was him when we first heard the voice, especially how iconic Stewart‘s portrayal has been of Professor X throughout the X-Men films. But, it makes sense that he might not have even recognized his own voice given that we hear ourselves quite a bit different than others do. Who knows if the voice clip played is even in the final film, but there’s no doubt now that he’ll indeed make his appearance at some point throughout Strange’s travel through the multiverse of madness.

  • Leaked ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ LEGO Set Leaked Featuring Gorr and Mysterious Creature

Leaked ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ LEGO Set Leaked Featuring Gorr and Mysterious Creature

You never know when some things just find their way online faster than others. Instagram user the.brick.wolf has shared a brand new LEGO set for the upcoming Thor: Love and Thunder film, which includes the two Thors fighting Gorr and a mysterious monster. The title seems to be “Attack on New Asgard” but no word on what exactly the strange creature is in the background with bat wings for ears and crab-like craws. You can see it here:

It’s interesting how a random LEGO set, which hasn’t been announced yet has found its way to the Istanbul Airport. Keep in mind, LEGO sets don’t always reflect what happens in the films – most famously is the Iron Man 3 misdirect – but it’s a curious addition and continues to highlight that New Asgard might be at the center of the final battle.

There’s still a lot we don’t know about the film which is eyeing a release in July, but that’s a good thing. Somehow Taika Waititi was able to keep quite a few interesting details under wraps and we’ll see what surprises they might have in store for us. The Guardians are interestingly absent from any marketing, which makes you wonder how much they’ll be featured in the story. For now, we can only see what heads our way.

  • RUMOR: ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’s Matt Murdock Getting a New Funko

RUMOR: ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’s Matt Murdock Getting a New Funko

Here’s some fun news for Funko collectors and fans of Spider-Man: No Way Home, as there may be a new addition heading our way in the near future. @funkomarvelnews has shared a listing from an upcoming Pop! Vinyl figure that would feature Charlie Cox‘s Matt Murdock. That’s not the only thing, as it’ll even pay homage to the iconic scene of his return, as he’ll also have the brick with him that he caught before it could hit Peter.

It was only a question of time once the spoiler characters would get their own Funko Pops – even if there’s still a strange absence of villain-focused Funko’s from Sony. The other two Spider-Men are likely the next in line to get their own additions, but we haven’t heard anything concrete on them as of now. So, we can only see if another listing finds it way online that hints at their arrival.

Matt Murdock was still one of the best surprises in an already EAster egg-filled film. We don’t know yet where exactly he’ll show up next – She-Hulk is still the likeliest of candidates – but his return does bode well for more of the Netflix characters arriving in the mainline MCU. Here’s hoping we find out soon with some teases, especially as these shows make their way to Disney+.
