  • Ed Harris Reportedly Joins Marvel Studios ‘Wonder Man’

Ed Harris Reportedly Joins Marvel Studios ‘Wonder Man’

Marvel Studios streaming series Wonder Man, starring Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Simon Williams, is gearing up for production and continues to add to its already stellar cast. Demetrius Grosse was recently confirmed to have joined the series as Eric Williams, the brother of Abdul-Mateen‘s Simon and the villain known as the Grim Reaper, but it’s been known for some time now that Wonder Man will feature another villain. In late 2022, rumors swirled that Bob Odenkirk was offered the role of Simon’s agent, a role that was later revealed to be the primary antagonist of the project. Unfortunately, Odenkirk and Marvel Studios didn’t strike a deal but they did find a very capable replacement.

According to YouTube personality Jeff Snieder, Westworld’s Man in Black, Ed Harris, has joined Wonder Man as Simon’s agent, Neal Saroyan. Murphy’s Multiverse first posited that Neal Saroyan was the identity of the character and the villain of the piece shortly after Odenkirk’s name was circulated in association with the project.

The 72-year-old Harris is one of Hollywood’s most well-respected method actors and capable of turning any role into a memorable one. Harris has played memorable villains in The Rock, Enemy at the Gates, The Truman Show and National Treasure: Book of Secrets as well as a chilling performance in A History of Violence. He’ll certainly bring something special to the role, though it looks as though it will be quite some time before audiences get to see exactly what that is. Marvel Studios has dramatically slowed the streaming pipeline and Wonder Man isn’t expected to stream until late 2024 at the earliest.

  • Marvel Confirms the Identity of Emilia Clarke’s ‘Secret Invastion’ Character

Marvel Confirms the Identity of Emilia Clarke’s ‘Secret Invastion’ Character

The identity of Emilia Clarke‘s character in the upcoming Marvel Studios streaming series, Secret Invasion, has been the subject of rumors and speculation since it was announced that the actress had joined the project. She’s been said to be playing Veranke, Abigail Brand and, more recently, said to be a Skrull named G’iah by insider Daniel RPK. Not everyone can be right…or can they?…but now Marvel Studios has made it official via a special look at the series from Vanity Fair.

As shared by Daniel RPK, Clarke is playing the Skrull G’iah, the daughter of Talos, who audiences first met in 2019’s Captain Marvel. “Remember when Ben [Mendelsohn] was there with his wife and daughter? She’s the little Skrull girl grown up. She’s his daughter,” revealed Secret Invasion star Samuel L. Jackson. The character of G’iah was first introduced in Marvel Comics in 2019’s Meet the Skrulls, which has long been rumored to have partially inspired Marvel Studios streaming series.

While the identity of Clarke’s character may not be a huge surprise (Marvel Studios made it pretty clear at the end of Captain Marvel that the character would return in some way), her role in the project might be: she’s part of an extremist group of Skrulls, led by Kingsley Ben-Adir’s Gravik, who believed Talos had failed them, decided to stop waiting to find a new home and have begun taking over Earth. “It’s hardened her for sure. There’s a kind of punk feeling that you get from this girl,” said Clarke of growing up amidst the Kree-Skrull War as the daughter of a Skrullian leader. “She’s a refugee kid who’s had Talos for a dad, you know what I mean? Maybe the fact that we didn’t know he had a kid up until this point tells you everything you need to know about their relationship. There is a lot of angst and pain and anger and resentment. The group themselves are kind of anti-Talos.

These people promised a lot of stuff a long time ago, and not a lot has happened. So understandably, a certain amount of resentment has been built. There’s a lot of emotions that live within her, and there’s a lot of confrontational aspects to her character that have come from circumstance. You understand why she has the feelings that she does.

    Emilia Clarke

Secret Invasion will certainly paint these extremist Skrulls in a different–and much more comic-accurate–light than in Captain Marvel and Spider-Man: Far From Home where they were victims of an ongoing war and even allies to humanity. Now that Gravik’s extremist faction is ready to move to the next step of their takeover of Earth, having G’iah and Talos on opposite sides will make for a very compelling arc when the series hits Disney Plus in June.

  • Ike Perlmutter Out at Disney as Marvel Entertainment is Dissolved

Ike Perlmutter Out at Disney as Marvel Entertainment is Dissolved

As part of a series of moves intended to save over $5B at Disney, the company folded Marvel Entertainment into the larger studio and laid off its chairman, Ike Perlmutter. Perlmutter took control of Marvel Entertainment in the 1990s and grew the brand by selling off live-action rights to characters such as Spider-Man to other movie studios. Since selling Marvel Entertainment to Disney in 2009, Perlmutter’s control over its output continued to wain until, in 2015, he and Kevin Feige entered into Marvel’s own “civil war.” Disney’s then-and-now-again-headman Bob Iger, sided with Feige and the rest, as they say, is history.

Well, you’d have to ask Ike about that. But let’s put it this way: He was not happy about it. And I think that unhappiness exists today.

Bob Iger on Ike Perlmutter following Marvel Studios “civil war”

Iger’s recent return to Disney almost certainly was the beginning of the end for Perlmutter who recently attempted a “shadow coup” by manipulating the board of the company. Once that failed, it put him squarely in Iger‘s sites again and was likely the last straw for the man who has found himself at odds with Marvel Studios’ decisions for the better part of a decade.

Marvel Entertainment’s President, Dan Buckley, will remain employed at Disney and continue to work with Feige.

  • Disney+ May Have Revealed ‘Secret Invasion’s June Release Date

Disney+ May Have Revealed ‘Secret Invasion’s June Release Date

Here’s an interesting way to leak a potential release date. It’s been long rumored that we might get our next major Disney+ series from Marvel Studios at some point this summer, as Secret Invasion was hinted at as the big release for this year. Yet, we haven’t had much information on when to expect the project. At least, that was until now courtesy of Disney+ itself.

It seems that Disney+ has added a release date to the Secret Invasion series of June 21st. While we’ve had a similar scenario in the past with the second season of Star Wars’ The Bad Batch which didn’t hit the initial release, it does give us an inclination that they might have this as a potential release date. So, there’s always a chance it might get postponed or just taken down.

The Bad Batch was hinted at a September release date before it actually hit Disney+ in January. So, there’s always a chance that this timeline isn’t going to stick but given the radio silence we’ve seen from Marvel Studios on the show, anything is possible. We’ll know it’s true if they do end up releasing a trailer in April, as streaming services usually go by a two-month promotional cycle.

If the June release turns out true, this is also the longest wait we’ve had between the Disney+ series marking the big change that the Internet has been asking for: less is more. While one could argue how that standpoint, we’re definitely seeing the old Marvel Studios back adjusting to a post-Chapek Disney.

  • Vincent D’Onofrio Teases a “Very, Very Different” Direction, Confirms Second Season of ‘Daredevil: Born Again’

Vincent D’Onofrio Teases a “Very, Very Different” Direction, Confirms Second Season of ‘Daredevil: Born Again’

Production on Marvel Studios Daredevil revival, Daredevil: Born Again recently got underway in New York City, kicking off an ambitious production schedule that is slated to be spread out over the majority of 2023. Over the past week, photos from the set have indicated that the series will be revisiting the childhood of Wilson Fisk, a time that was well established in the Netflix Daredevil series. Star Charlie Cox has already made it clear that Born Again isn’t a fourth season of Daredevil but rather a “whole new deal,” that would provide the opportunity to revisit and retell stories from the Netflix series. Now, for the first time, co-star Vincent D’Onofrio has given his input on how the new series compares to Daredevil.

“We’ve only just started shooting. I think we’re a couple weeks in, and the show is going to be very, very different than the Netflix show, and it’s so exciting because what we’re doing is quite something.”

    Vincent D’Onofrio

What exactly will be so different? According to D’Onofrio, Daredevil: Born Again is set to subvert the expectations of the audience.

I think it’s something that people are not going to expect. But, always with these Marvel old comic stories that are being revisited and reinvented by us actors, and the writers, the main thing is to answer the fans.

    Vincent D’Onofrio

How will showrunners Matt Corman and Chris Ord pull that off? According to D’Onofrio, by providing an original and emotional take on the characters.

To give them what they want but try to be original in some way at the same time, and so that’s what we’re doing on the show. It’s definitely an original way to look at this, and it’s really deep, really emotional.

    Vincent D’Onofrio

Daredevil: Born Again was presented as an 18-episode maxi-series slated for 2024. While the release schedule of any and all Marvel Studios streaming projects remains up in the air while the company restructures a bit under Bob Iger’s renewed leadership, Born Again not only looks to still make its debut in 2024 but also, according to D’Onofrio, already be penciled in for a second season. According to D’Onofrio, fans of the Netflix series may have to play the long game, but by the end of that second season, they’ll get “what they want.”

And, by the second season, there are gigantic, gigantic payoffs—in the first season, too, but I can’t say much about that—but the fans are gonna really get what they want. It’s really quite cool to be doing it.

    Vincent D’Onofrio

What is it fans want? If it’s a healthy amount of Cox and Jon Bernthal who is returning as Frank Castle, D’Onofrio has some.good news.

These are two guys that, just as men and actors themselves, are legitimate people and I love those guys, Jon and Charlie. I just love them. They’re just awesome, good people, and their acting ability speaks for itself. They’re both very good, and it’s nice. It’s always nice to come on a set and you know that the other main actors are as prepared as anybody could be. It shortens the day, and that kind of preparation lends itself to a great scene.

    Vincent D’Onofrio

As if it weren’t already evident given the 18-episode structure of Season 1, fans are going to have to sit back and let the story of Daredevil: Born Again unfold before they get an idea of exactly what’s going on and how it does or does not connect to the stories told on Netflix. Fortunately, with Bernthal, Cox and D’Onofrio on board, it should be an enjoyable ride.

  • BTS Photos from the Times Square Set of ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ May Confirm Rumored Plot Point

BTS Photos from the Times Square Set of ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ May Confirm Rumored Plot Point

As Daredevil: Born Again continues filming in and around New York City, set photos from the production continue to find their way online, treating fans with plenty of tidbits around which they can speculate. Nothing that’s made its way into the wild thus far has been incredibly spoilery but the latest behind-the-scenes look at the streaming project might be the most interesting yet. The new photos, captured at the Times Square set of the show, seem to confirm one of the longest-standing rumors about the plot of the show, so spoiler-sensitive fans should check out these great pictures of Charlie Cox walking instead.

In what appears to be a scene ripped right from the pages of 2017’s Daredevil #595, a New Year’s Eve celebration, sponsored by the Pym van Dyne Foundation, seems to be doubling as either a rally or celebration of Wilson Fisk’s mayoral campaign.

While the majority of the paraphernalia seen at the event bears the Pym van Dyne Foundation logo, a foam fist with “FISK” printed across it can clearly be seen. The Mayor Fisk arc, written by Charles Soule over the course of Daredevil #595-600, see Fisk become Mayor of New York City and launch a crusade against the city’s vigilantes.

Though no shots have been shared online yet, it’s possible that Vincent D’Onofrio made his way on set last night. While the presence of the Pym van Dyne Foundation merch in the photos may seem like innocuous shared universe minutia, it’s worth pointing out that one of the most interesting fan theories about Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania posit that when the Ant-Family emerges from their adventure in the Quantum Realm, they do so into an alternate universe. That theory may be pretty spot on (Quantumania writer Jeff Loveness indicated it’s “not too far off”) and could open a whole world of possibilities for any project set within that alternate universe, such as explaining how a character like Fisk, who was incarcerated in the Netflix Daredevil series, could end up as Mayor of New York City.

A previous batch of photos from the Harlem set of Daredevil: Born Again indicated that the series will be visiting a young Wilson Fisk in the 1970s. The Netflix Daredevil series established the childhood trauma of Fisk incredibly well; so well, in fact, one would be excused for wondering why they’d need to revisit it again. However, if it were to establish that this Fisk is one who lives in the same alternate universe the Ant-Family may have entered into. Star Charlie Cox has stated that the new project will offer the opportunity for portions of the characters’ stories told on Netflix to be revisited and retold and perhaps this alternate universe theory could help explain why.

  • Victoria Alonso’s Lawyer Strikes Back, Claims She Was “Silenced” by Disney

Victoria Alonso’s Lawyer Strikes Back, Claims She Was “Silenced” by Disney

The story surrounding Victoria Alonso‘s departure from Marvel Studios is starting to take on quite a messy direction. At first, there were claims that she was a kingmaker that wrecked the studio’s relationship with various VFX agencies. Then, a report arrived that she was fired due to her involvement with Argentina, 1985 after being repeatedly told that it is in breach of her contract with Disney.

Now, the story is getting her lawyer involved, who has openly struck back at the statements and even put up some rather scathing statements in regard to her sudden cancelation. Patty Glaser claims that Alonso has been “silenced” by Disney but only hints that a revelation to this claim will follow in some form or another.

The idea that Victoria was fired over a handful of press interviews relating to a personal passion project about human rights and democracy that was nominated for an Oscar and which she got Disney’s blessing to work on is absolutely ridiculous. Victoria, a gay Latina who had the courage to criticize Disney, was silenced. Then she was terminated when she refused to do something she believed was reprehensible. Disney and Marvel made a really poor decision that will have serious consequences. There is a lot more to this story and Victoria will be telling it shortly—in one forum or another.

    Patty Glaseer

The claim may be in reference to a statement she made towards Bob Chapek during 2022 GLAAD awards after the Florida “Don’t Say Gay” bill incident. Though that wouldn’t make sense given that she was fired under Bob Iger‘s leadership rather than that of Chapek, who even Disney ousted due to the way things have been going as of late. Supposedly, she was no longer allowed to do press for any Marvel projects.

At this point, stories aren’t quite adding up and it’s becoming a “he said, she said” storyline. The report surrounding Argentina, 1985 wasn’t an official statement but a report from Hollywood Reporter. So, the lawyer antagonizing Disney in reaction to that story is certainly a curious reaction. Whatever these consequences may be, we’ll have to see what exactly it might mean for everyone involved.

  • Laurence Fishburne Confirms His MCU Return in ‘What If…?’

Laurence Fishburne Confirms His MCU Return in ‘What If…?’

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania skipped out on a few of its iconic characters introduced throughout the first two entries. Sadly, we will have to wait a bit longer to see Laurence Fishburne return as Bill Foster once more, but it seems the wait might not be as long as we may have assumed.

While promoting John Wick Chapter 4, the actor revealed in an interview with Brandon Pope TV that he voiced his character once again in the upcoming second season of What If…?. While he doesn’t give away any details, it’s great to know that we’ll get a bit more from the actor in the MCU sooner rather than later.

We’ve wondered if we might see Bill Foster in Thunderbolts, as his adoptive daughter Ava Starr, better known as Ghost, is set to have a major role in the story. It seemed like the perfect opportunity to explore what has happened to the two of them after Ant-Man and the Wasp.

Of course, there’s still a chance they might add him for a brief appearance or they’ll hint at what happened to the two after the events of that film. Who knows how they were affected by the Blip and if her involvement with the unlikely team is to protect him.

Either way, it’s great to know that the second season of What If…? will feature another familiar face and we’ll get our first look at an animated Laurence Fishburne. He’s always been an actor who had a great time and perhaps he’ll get to do something a little crazy like finally become Giant Man in the animated spinoff.

  • New Details on Victoria Alonso’s Marvel Studios Exit Emerge

New Details on Victoria Alonso’s Marvel Studios Exit Emerge

To say Victoria Alonso suddenly leaving Marvel Studios was shocking is an understatement. She was a big part of the early days of the studio and while there are many stories making the rounds in regard to her handling of the Special Effects for various projects since she took over the role in 2019, it seems there’s a bit more to this story after all.

In a new report by The Hollywood Reporter, they unveil that a big part of her exit was due to her work on the film Argentina, 1985. She was among eight producers for the international product that is distributed by Amazon. Yet, it seems she has breached her contract even after she was warned about her involvement which ended up leading to her contract termination. The breach is part of her 2018 contract that wouldn’t allow employees to work for competing studios.

It seems she never asked for permission to get involved with Argentina, 1985. Though, IndieWire seemingly also reported that she had the okay on the project it’s uncertain how many elements are at play with veteran executives getting fired. It seems her Oscars appearance as a producer alongside director Santiago Mitre just added to the chaos.

It seems that being busy with this project also had her distracted from her VFX job which was also hurting her reputation with recent reactions to the effects in the latest Marvel films, which was a general struggle for the industry after the pandemic. So, with its head distracted, it becomes hard to find a balance.
