  • Jason Blum Offers Update on ‘Five Nights at Freddy’s Film

Jason Blum Offers Update on ‘Five Nights at Freddy’s Film

Five Nights at Freddy’s has been quite the pop-cultural phenomenon when the first game was released by indie developer Scott Cawthon. The simple premise of you being a nightguard stuck in a Chuck E. Cheese-inspired pizza parlor as the animatronics come to life to kill you built quite the connection with players. There was a lot of excitement when Chris Columbus signed on to direct the project. Well, that was until he left the project in October making many wonders if the project is still happening.

Luckily, the founder of the production company, Jason Blum, had a QnA session on Twitter, where he answered a few questions regarding the project. While he didn’t offer any updates, it was the first time we’ve heard anything about it since Columbus left the project. In one of his tweets, he pointed out that the project is still in development and hasn’t been passed on.

He also answer a question regarding if a new director has been attached to the project, which they are seemingly still actively looking to find. The original director signed on all the way back in 2018, but due to Cawthon not signing off on any scripts – which there have supposedly been quite a few – and delaying the project further.

It’s a bit disheartening how long the project has taken, as even if the series may have overstayed its welcome for many, there’s something about the base concept that works incredibly well for a horror franchise. Five Nights at Freddy’s has also seen a resurgence with its latest game release Security Breach, which had a mixed reception. Here’s hoping we get some news on the project moving forward in the near future.

  • ‘Scream’ to Dethrone ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ Over the Holiday Weekend

‘Scream’ to Dethrone ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ Over the Holiday Weekend

It has finally happened. It seemed almost impossible considering for how long Spider-Man: No Way Home has been the dominant force in the box office since its release in December. Yet after a strong start with Thursday previews, Scream has managed to garner $13.35M on Friday and is currently set to dethrone the Marvel film. As Variety shared, the film may end the weekend at around $36M over the four-day weekend.

The latest horror flick is doing great in the usually dead zone that is January. The film is also making back its entire production budget back in the opening weekend, as it only cost $25M. The numbers are also great considering the growing concern over Omicron, as predictions had it only barely inching out No Way Home with 29M ahead of its release. The Marvel film is still performing great as it’s eyeing a $26.75M holiday weekend.

Horror films have generally been consistent performers throughout the pandemic. Halloween Kills managed to grab $49.4M and A Quiet Place Part II was a motivating release in the earlier parts of the pandemic as a lot of uncertainty still remained. The big test will be The Batman‘s release in March to see if any other release might be able to break the box office again.

  • Alison Brie and John Cena Team-Up for Comedy “Freelance”

Alison Brie and John Cena Team-Up for Comedy “Freelance”

Alison Brie and John Cena are teaming up as freelancers.

The duo will star together in the movie, Freelance, which will be helmed by Taken helmer Pierre Morel. Freelance was written by Jacob Lentz (Jimmy Kimmel Live) and centers on an ex-special forces operator who takes a job providing security for a journalist in search of a change. Naturally, things go terribly wrong along the way when a military coup breaks out during an interview. The mismatched pair will need to escape to the jungle, along with the dictator, in hopes of survival.

Cena, of course, will play the ex-special forces operator, while Brie will play the journalist. Production on the film will kick off later this month in Colombia. Steve Richards of Endurance Media, Sentient’s Renee Tab and Christopher Tuffin are producing, while AGC and Endurance are co-financing the project.

This is yet another project for the incredibly busy Cena who is starring in the recently released Peacemaker on HBO Max. Brie, of course, is most famous for her roles in Community and Netflix’s Glow.

As it stands, Freelance does not yet have a release date.

  • M’Baku Actor Winston Duke Given “Expanded Role” in ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’

M’Baku Actor Winston Duke Given “Expanded Role” in ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’

As Black Panther: Wakanda Forever resumes filming after star Letitia Wright’s injury and other delays related to COVID-19, a recent report suggests that some potentially major changes have been made to the film during production.

While plenty of attention has been on Wright‘s Shuri throughout the film’s development and production for numerous reasons, it looks like actor Winston Duke has possibly had quite an interesting journey with the sequel’s production as well. According to The Hollywood Reporter, sources say that Duke, who plays Jabari Tribe leader M’Baku, has negotiated a hefty pay raise due to his reported expanded role within Wakanda Forever and perhaps the Black Panther franchise at large.

While there is no information on just how “expanded” Duke’s role actually is, the news is sure to bring up both old and new theories on where the follow-up to the extremely beloved and successful Black Panther plans to go after Chadwick Boseman‘s tragic death in 2020 and recent controversies surrounding the sequel.

Despite the delays, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is still on track for its scheduled Nov. 11, 2022 release date.

  • Leslie Grace Unveils First Look at Batgirl Costume

Leslie Grace Unveils First Look at Batgirl Costume

As production continues on Batgirl, the leading lady, Leslie Grace, has provided fans with the first look of her in costume as the titular hero.

In the image, which you can see below, the costume seems to homage Barbara’s iconic Batgirl of Burnside uniform. It’s a rather comics-accurate costume, with only minor adjustments made in its translation to live-action.

With the outpouring of set photos that have surfaced in recent days, it’s not surprising that we received our first look as the costume this early on. It’s more than likely the studio wanted an official release to be what fans saw first rather than a leaked set photo, which is often the case with superhero films.

Along with the image, Grace posted a quote from Batgirl: Year One by Scott Beatty, Chuck Dixon, Marcos MartinJavier Rodriguez , Alvaro Lopez, and Willie Schubert. “I use their expectations against them. That will be their weakness. Not mine. Let them all underestimate me… And when their guard is down, and their pride is rising, let me kick their butts.”

  • ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ On its Way to Pass ‘Avengers: Infinity War’s Spot in the Domestic Box Office

‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ On its Way to Pass ‘Avengers: Infinity War’s Spot in the Domestic Box Office

While Spider-Man: No Way Home sadly is more an exception than a rule, its hold on the box office is truly impressive. Not only did it manage to take in over $200M in its opening weekend, as everyone else struggled to even get near the $100M mark, but it also is the first pandemic release to pass the $1 billion mark. Now, the film continues to grow, as it’s already on its way to becoming the fifth-highest domestic opening of all time, as it passes by Avengers: Infinity War‘s $678.8M.

These numbers are impressive, as it’s very likely going to hit $700M by Monday. while it does seem unlikely that it could manage $800M given the rise in Omicron concerns as of late, the film’s box office development has been quite impressive. It also stood unopposed since its release in December, but there’s a chance that Scream will just barely inch out the Marvel threequel over the weekend, as it takes in a predicted $29.4M, who’s also showing some impressive numbers even as it faces the pandemic.

  • RUMOR: Doctor Doom May Have a Minor Role in ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’

RUMOR: Doctor Doom May Have a Minor Role in ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’

We all know that the Fantastic Four are on their way to cinemas once again, but there have been quite a few rumors we might see elements of their mythology appear in the MCU at an earlier date. A long time ago, there were some hints that their most famous adversary, Doctor Doom, might have a role in sparking the events of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. A new rumor has found its way online offering a bit more information on his potential appearance.

Bleeding Cool reports that he’ll have a very minor role in the story. They’ve heard that Marvel Studios has already been working on a costume of some kind, which adds to a potential appearance. We’ve heard very little about the Fantastic Four film so far, and it’s uncertain if it even entered some form of pre-production as of now. So, if they are already trying to bring one of Marvel’s most iconic villains to life early, it seems likely he’d appear in a project sooner rather than later. If he appears, it would mainly be to tease a potential connection to the Wakandan and Atlantean war.

Of course, it’s still a rumor for now as we haven’t even got official information on the involvement of Namor and Atlantis in the story. So, we still have to take it with a grain of salt, but his involvement would be a great addition to the story and potentially tease a larger role for the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe later down the line. He’s known for forcing everyone throughout the Marvel universe to band together and it wouldn’t be too surprising he does the same here.

  • ‘Scream’ Rakes in $3.5 million at Thursday Previews

‘Scream’ Rakes in $3.5 million at Thursday Previews

Paramount and Spyglass Media’s Scream, the fifth installment of the horror franchise, is off to an impressive start. The horror flick earned $3.5 million at Thursday previews from 3,000 theaters. While that number is below Halloween Kills and A Quiet Place Part 2, which both earned $4.8 million each, it is still impressive for a horror film during a pandemic.

It remains to be seen how well the reboot/sequel does over Martin Luther King Jr. weekend, however, the hope is that it’ll cross at least $20 million. Under normal circumstances, that would be a low number for such a big movie. However, in a pandemic, that is a safe goal to reach. Working on Scream’s favor, of course, is the fact that it has no major competition until February 4th — when both Moonfall and Jackass Forever debut. Its only real competition as it stands is Spider-Man: No Way Home, which is still dominating the box office and inching closer to $700 million stateside.

With strong reviews, Scream should do well over the four-day weekend, potentially even overtaking Mama (2013) as the highest opening over MLK weekend for a horror film. That film pulled in $32.1 million at the time. Fans can return to Westboro now that Scream is finally playing in theaters.

  • RUMOR: ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ May Set Up a Namor Franchise

RUMOR: ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ May Set Up a Namor Franchise

There have been many rumors pointing to Namor becoming the main threat for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. It’s still unclear how the story will unravel, but it seems more and more likely that a clash is inevitable between Wakanda and the Atlanteans. In a new story by Bleeding Cool, they offer some additional insight into what the upcoming sequel may have planned for the iconic Sub-Mariner and it seems they are using this as a jumping-off point for the character to get his own franchise.

It seems their plan is to use this film in a similar fashion to how Captain America: Civil War introduced Black Panther into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The future king of Wakanda had a substantial role in that film with his own arc that would become the starting point where the first Black Panther film started off. So, it’s likely that wherever the conflict between these two nations ends up, it’ll probably continue his storyline through its aftermath.

We still have to take it with a grain of salt, but given how much the franchise has been expanding as of late, it wouldn’t be too surprising that they’d want to set up a franchise for a character that’s been with Marvel since the beginning. He’s also known as the first mutant, which may also be an interesting setup in connecting him to the larger mythology developing through the MCU. There’s a lot of potentials and we’ll see what the future has in store once the film releases later this year.

  • Tom Holland Hopes To Return as Spider-Man “Again and Again and Again”

Tom Holland Hopes To Return as Spider-Man “Again and Again and Again”

Spider-Man: No Way Home has become one of the highest grossing films of all time and the highest-rated live-action Spider-Man film ever but, without the work of Tom Holland, it wouldn’t have happened. Following Spider-Man: Far From Home, the relationship between Marvel Studios and Sony was as dead as Marisa Tomei’s Aunt May until Holland swung in and saved the deal. Now it seems the relationship between the two studios is stronger than ever, with both Amy Pascal and Kevin Fiege confirming that work on a fourth collaboration is already underway. And if that wasn’t enough to excite fans, Holland himself added a little more enthusiasm to the mix today.

Rotten Tomatoes awarded the highly-regarded film three of their Golden Tomato awards in 2021 and Holland thanked the site in a video. During that video, Holland expressed not only his thanks, but also his desire to “do it again and again and again” and followed up by saying “we’ll see you soon.”

Fans were rightfully trepidatious about Holland’s return to the role as his time on the press rounds for the film was filled with contradictory conversation about his willingness to return to the film. However, the events of the film leave the character in the perfect place for an all-new, all-different sort of trilogy that will allow Holland to put a new spin on the character. With development on fourth installment already underway, it might not be too long before we hear news about a potential release date.
