While promoting Echo, Brad Winderbaum, Head of Streaming, Television and Animation Marvel Studios stirred up quite a bit of buzz when he shared his thoughts on if the events from the various Netflix Dedenders-verse series (Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, The Defenders and The Punisher) took place onthe MCU’s Sacred Timeline.
“So, I can say that up until this point, we’ve been a little bit cagey about what’s Sacred Timeline and what’s not,” said Winderbaum. “That was born, frankly, out of a period at the studio where we were like ‘we have to stick the landing with Avengers.’ It was another part of the company developing the Netflix stuff; we were aware of what they were doing, they were aware of what we were doing, but it was a lot.. it was a lot to balance anyway,” he explained. “But now that some time has passed, now that we actually see how well-integrated the stories are, I personally, Brad Winderbaum, will confidently say that they are part of the Sacred Timeline.” And it was that last bit that left enough wiggle room available to keep the debate alive of whether or not those series, which were not produced by Marvel Studios should be considered as Sacred Timeline canon. Now it seems like the debate is settled.
Accompanying the release of Echo, the studio’s first Marvel Spotlight production and its first TV-MA offering, the studio made massive changes to the Timeline Order subsection of the Marvel Studios channel on Disney Plus. Though it’s not yet updated in all regions, the studio has retroactively placed all 161 episodes of the Netflix series in the Infinity Saga.
Daredevil and Jessica Jones are now located between Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and Avengers: Age of Ultron. Luke Cage, Iron Fist and TheDefenders are now placed between Ant-Man and Captain America: Civil War. And, finally, The Punisher is shown to be set after Spider-Man: Homecoming and before Doctor Strange.
The changes have wreaked some havoc on the streaming service and it seems quite a few bugs are still being worked out.
Shortly after the writer’s strike came to an end, the writing staff for the second season of Netflix’s live-action One Piece series unveiled its writer’s team. There were hints that they may have started working on some of the episodes already ahead of the strike; hints even exist that they may have finished most of the drafts already. Yet, we have no exact timeline on when we could expect the second season to start getting the cameras rolling again.
A new post from Nami actress Emily Rudd may have given us a hint on when we can expect production to start. Of course, this doesn’t necessarily give us a true timeline but it does seem that we can expect production on the second season to be earlier than initially expected next year. In a now-deleted Instagram story, Rudd shared a gift she received for the holidays with a highlight that it is for the “season 2 prep”.
This alone doesn’t necessarily make a case that production is going to start up just as soon as the new year comes rolling in, but preparations are a hint that we’re definitely getting closer. Plus, it might be a better hint that some kind of casting news may be underway in the coming weeks to prepare us ahead of production.
There’s also the hint from Brashaad Mayweather, the actor who played Patty in the first season sharing that he’s already hearing sets being built for next year’s filming. As such, they may already be getting ready to start as soon as they can and will likely require quite a few more out-there sets when compared to the first given the nature of the story that is going to be told and the many more islands they’ll explore.

We’ll probably have to wait at least until later before we get an update, as we did get some casting announcements ahead of time before production started in January last year. Though, it’s also quite a bit different given that this is the second season of a recurring show that may handle things a bit differently. Still, here’s hoping that this is a sign that updates are just around the corner.
Star Wars seems like it could dethrone any franchise even if Disney+ has fewer subscribers than the streaming giant that is Netflix. So, many different metrics can showcase the success of a project in this modern data-based world. It’s getting more and more difficult as people online swing wildly with analytics and data points to showcase just how big a project truly is or not. Still, there’s always something interesting that pops up now and then to tease just how big a new project might be in this streaming age.
For Netflix, it seems they won the third quarter with their latest live-action anime adaptation; a far cry from where they were when Cowboy Bebop was released last year. The winner in Q3 according to an analysis from The Wrap is One Piece, which even managed to pull in a bigger interest in the US throughout its first 30 days in comparison to Ahsoka, The Boys spinoff Gen V, and the latest The Walking Dead spinoff.
We know that the series was big enough to get a second season (and hopefully gets the opportunity to grow even more beyond given just how much there is to explore from the original manga series). However, seeing just how big the adaptation of Eiichiro Oda’s iconic series has become in the States is a showcase of just how universal the storyline is. Hopefully, they will be able to move forward fast and start filming to avoid losing the audience’s interest due to long waits in between seasons. So, we’ll see how fast the franchise starts moving forward.
Sadly, it seems that Netflix’s reputation is starting to lead to many creatives not even giving long-term storytelling a chance. One of the latest new additions in Scott Pilgrim Takes Off has been released on the streaming service that gives a unique spin on the iconic cult classic film and comic, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. While the ending does includes a little hint at what could happen in a second season which would be original material, the series creator hints that a sequel season is unlikely.
In an interview with RollingStone, Bryan Lee O’Malley talked bout the anime adaptation of the series that saw the cast of the original film return to voice their characters. Even Chris Evans, Brie Larson, Michael Cera, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Aubrey Plaza, Kieran Culkin, and more returned but it seems they approached the project as if it was a single season to begin with.
People are always complaining about how shows get canceled after 1 season. So we hedged our bets immediately, and tried to make a self-contained 1 season.

It’s a shame as the series has style and definitely would offer some great storytelling if we had more from the show moving forward. There’s a lot about the mystical world of Canada worth exploring as Scott and Ramona Flower’s relationship gets further explored. Though there’s an ending hinting at a potential continuation, O’Malley has confirmed it was more a tongue-in-cheek reference towards post-credit sequences overall.
What was once hailed as one of the future flagship series for the streaming giant, it seems that Shadow & Bone is no longer moving forward on the streamer after two seasons. It’s one of many shows getting canceled, which also includes Glamorous, Agent Evlis, Captain Fall, and Farzar. It seems that while viewing numbers weren’t strong, to begin with, the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes were the last nail in the coffin for these projects.
The strikes led to a lot of productions getting delayed and ended up with a pipeline logjam for 2024 and 2025 moving forward for the streamer. Not just that but the big gaps between seasons are also going to lead to a major drop in viewership numbers; something they are fearing for some projects that are currently starting to get production back up.
The Night Agent and One Piece broke out in a big way, which puts them in a nice spot to get picked up fast to start production soon, but it seems Shadow and Bone lost too much momentum to move forward with its third season. Many believed that the Grishaverse novels were going to see spinoffs get developed but on top of the delay, the series wasn’t in the top spot even as it held on to the Top 10 for five weeks. Sadly, that seems to be the end for the adaptation.
