Walter Perez Joins ‘Fatal Attraction’ at Paramount+

Walter Perez is the latest actor to join the cast of Fatal Attraction. He joins the cast in the recurring role of Jorge Perez, an “easygoing DDA” who is said to be both sweet and genuine, and successful in his own work ethic “without locker room talk.” Perez joins a cast that includes Joshua Jackson, Lizzy Caplan, Amanda Peet, Wanda De Jesus, Alyssa Jirrels, Toby Huss, Reno Wilson and Brian Goodman.

The Paramount+ series is set to be a reimagining of the hit 1987 film starring Michael Douglas and Glenn Close. It’ll focus on the “timeless themes of marriage and infidelity through the lens of modern attitudes towards strong women, personality disorders, and coercive control.”

  • ‘Frasier’ Sequel Series Officially in Development at Paramount+

‘Frasier’ Sequel Series Officially in Development at Paramount+

After going through a long development process, the revival of the hit sitcom Frasier has officially received a series order from Paramount+. This news comes after the initial announcement of the sequel series all the way back in February of 2021. As well, word of a revival of Frasier has been in Hollywood circles dating back to the summer of 2018. Beyond it serving as the return of Kelsey Grammer to his beloved and iconic role of Dr. Frasier Crane, not much is currently known about what the revival will consist of.

The series is being written by Chris Harris (How I Met Your Mother) and Joe Cristalli (Life in Pieces). It is being produced by CBS Studios and Kelsey Grammer’s production company Grammnet Productions.

Frasier began as a spinoff to the classic sitcom Cheers, in which Grammer reprised his role that initially was a foil to the love story of Sam Malone and Diane Chambers. Frasier followed the titular character following his move from Boston to Seattle and his new career as a radio psychiatrist and dealing with reuniting with his turbulent family. Airing on NBC between 1993 and 2004, Frasier became a massive success in the television landscape. In its 11-season run, the original series and its cast earned a then-record 37 Primetime Emmy Awards (only to recently be broken by HBO’s Game of Thrones).

The new sequel series for Frasier will certainly have a lot to live up to in relation to the previous television homes of Dr. Frasier Crane. And for the young Paramount+ streamer, it is certainly hoping this can become the stalwart smash hit it is in the business for.

  • REVIEW: ‘The Infernal Machine’

    REVIEW: ‘The Infernal Machine’

A good psychological thriller can have audience members on the edge of their seat from the very beginning until the very end. The problem is, developing a good psychological thriller isn’t easy, especially when the story takes a bit to get going. The Infernal Machine isn’t a bad movie by any means, but it struggles to get going until well-beyond the midway point of the film.

The Infernal Machine stars the always great Guy Pearce as author Bruce Cogburn. Following the success of his one and only novel, Cogburn becomes a recluse after a controversial event involving his novel, The Infernal Machine. He’s no longer interested in being known as the famous author, and despite pleas for a follow-up, Cogburn seems to have nothing left in his to write another title. In the beginning, it’s a bit unclear what the controversy is that surrounds his book, but that seems to take a backseat to what appears to be an obsessive fan. Day after day, packages and letters show up at Cogburn’s residence, even though only a handful of people close to him know where to find him. The obsessive fan isn’t shown, but their presence is felt throughout the film. On one hand, the decision to forgo showing the fan is a smart one. On the other hand, however, it makes the ending all the more frustrating as it becomes rushed.

The movie is a slow burn. It’s in no rush to unravel truths and lies for audience members. Which wouldn’t be so bad, except it often feels like it is repeating itself. There are only so many times the film can focus on Cogburn in a telephone booth trying to reach the obsessive fan. It becomes tiresome after a while. It isn’t until Saul is introduced that the film seems to regain its footing. It’s frustrating because Pearce does deliver a hell of a performance. He captures the anxiety, fear and anger necessary to portray the role of Cogburn perfectly. But there’s only so much Pearce can do to carry an uneven story.

Like most indie films, the cast of The Infernal Machine is a small one. Pearce is, per usual, a highlight. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for Alice Eve or Alex Pettyfer. Eve isn’t necessarily bad, but her character often feels underdeveloped. While Pettyfer simply feels miscast. His scenes with Pearce are startling because Pearce manages to act circles around the young actor. He simply did not have the skills needed to play the role of Dwight Tufford. The role isn’t a large one, but the moments Pettyfer pops up on screen seem to drag the film down a notch. He’s just not captivating enough to play such a morally corrupt character.

The ending is where The Infernal Machine shines. It’s a corrupt story that doesn’t shy away from ugly truths. Every moment of the third act is full of pulse-pounding moments. Is it perfect? No. Is it well-crafted? Yes. It’s only a shame the rest of the film couldn’t maintain this level of quality throughout.

For those looking for an action-packed thriller, The Infernal Machine is probably not the right type of film. However, those looking for a slow-burn with a surprising twist ending? Well, The Infernal Machine is worth a watch.

  • Sarah Michelle Gellar Teases Her ‘Wolf Pack’ Role With New Set Photo

Sarah Michelle Gellar Teases Her ‘Wolf Pack’ Role With New Set Photo

Paramount+ is preparing an adaptation of Wolf Pack based on Edo Van Belkom‘s book of the same name with Teen Wolf‘s Jeff Davis working on the project. It’s unclear how close it’ll stick to the original, but it will follow the core story of a young boy played by Armani Jackson and a girl (Bella Shepard) who are met by supernatural creatures after a California wildfire.

Joining the cast is Sarah Michelle Gellar, who is most famous for her role as Buffy Summers in Buffy the Vampire Slayer and has been building quite a career since with various projects like CW’s Ringer or even CBS’ The Crazy Ones starring opposite Robin Williams. Now, she’s set to join Wolf Pack and offered a tease of her character, Kristin Ramsey, on Instagram with a first look.

She hinted in an interview that she initially wasn’t interested in joining the project but it was the scripts that caught her eye and drew her into this story. The chance to explore “anxiety and depression among children” using the monsters as metaphors gave it something unique that drew her to the project. So, it’ll be interesting to see what she brings to the table with this project.

  • Paramount+’s ‘Halo’ Season 2 Kicks-Off Production With First Set Photo

Paramount+’s ‘Halo’ Season 2 Kicks-Off Production With First Set Photo

It’s crazy to think that we had a live-action Halo series release on Paramount+ not too long ago. The idea of an adaptation focused on that franchise already seemed like a heavy burden for anyone willing to take the risk but the series still managed to pull in a second season renewal from the streaming service.

While the news is scarce on what exactly they have planned for the second season of Halo, it seems that production has finally started. Not only that, the official Twitter account even shared a first look at the set to celebrate the production start, which is currently taking place in Iceland.

We’ll see how the series continues the iconic franchise and how they’ll further explore this unique take on Master Chief. While familiar elements exist in this franchise, it’s mostly using the platform to tell its own stories that pay tribute to what came before. Translating a gaming franchise to live-action has been a challenge for many throughout the years, which is why it’s exciting to see the project get a chance at a second season.

Halo has also seen a resurgence in gaming with Halo: Infinity by 343 Industries. So, it’s also the perfect time to keep the momentum going as they further explore this universe through different perspectives. We’ll see if elements from the series even get added into the game’s multiplayer to play around with this new world that’s been established and the many characters that exist in it.

  • Zach Gilford Boards ‘Criminal Minds’ Revival

Zach Gilford Boards ‘Criminal Minds’ Revival

The Paramount+ revival of Criminal Minds has a new name and a new actor. The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that Zach Gilford has joined the series in a key recurring role. He’ll play Elias Voit, an analyst for a cyber-security firm who has a dark side and an obsession with death. More interestingly, though, the series has received a new name. The revival is now titled Criminal Minds: Evolution.

The actor is set to join the previously confirmed returning cast of Joe Mantegna, Kirsten Vangsness, Adam Rodriguez, A.J. Cook, Aisha Tyler and Paget Brewster. Not returning for the revival are Matthew Gray Gubler and Daniel Henney, with the latter currently starring on Prime Video’s adaptation of The Wheel of Time.

While the revival is bringing back much of its core cast, the series is making one major change. In the past, Criminal Minds saw the team solve the case usually by the episode’s end. In the revival, though, the series will take a more serialized approach. Per the logline, Evolution will see the team “come up against their greatest threat yet, an UnSub who has used the pandemic to build a network of other serial killers. As the world opens back up and the network goes operational, the team must hunt them down, one murder at a time.”

Gilford is perhaps best known for his work on shows such as Friday Night Lights, Good Girls and Midnight Mass. The actor has also appeared in films like The Purge: Anarchy and Devil’s Due. Next up for Gilford are the Netflix series The Midnight Club and Mike Flanagan‘s The Fall of the House of Usher.

Criminal Minds: Evolution hails from showrunner Erica Messer, who worked on the original hit series. Production on the revival is currently underway.

  • Paramount+ Officially Orders the ‘Criminal Minds’ Revival to Series

Paramount+ Officially Orders the ‘Criminal Minds’ Revival to Series

In February of this year, it was reported that Paramount+ was nearing deals with some of the core cast of Criminal Minds for the forthcoming revival. Now, the series has been given a formal pick-up order for the revival for a ten episode season. Six cast members have also been confirmed to return as Joe Mantegna, Kirsten Vangsness, Adam Rodriguez, A.J. Cook, Aisha Tyler and Paget Brewster have signed on for the new series.

The news comes courtesy of Deadline, with the outlet reporting that Erica Messer, the show’s longtime executive producer and showrunner, is also set to return. Her deal is said to have been closed months ago. It is said that the six cast members signing on to return was contingent on Messer signing a pact with ABC Signature where she is under an overall deal.

Mantegna, who joined the original series during its third season, teased the revival’s pickup with a Tweet on Tuesday. “Just doing a little inspection today for an upcoming project,” he wrote on a photo of him on set.

Criminal Minds ended its fifteen season run in 2020. Since then, rumors have continued to circulate suggesting a revival was in the works. However, the first real news of a revival didn’t come until early this year. Matthew Gray Gubler, who played Spencer Reid in the series, and Daniel Henney, who played Matt Simmons, are currently not expected to join the rest of the returning cast.

Production on the Criminal Minds revival will kickoff on Aug. 21st in Los Angeles.
