Deadline is reporting that the streaming service has cast Armani Jackson (Honor Society), BellaShepard (The Wilds), Chloe Rose Robertson (Wildflower) and Tyler Lawrence Gray (OurTown) in the forthcoming series. Wolf Pack, based on the books by author Edo Van Belkom, will be executive produced by Teen Wolf’s Jeff Davis.
The series follows Everett, played by Jackson, and Blake (Shepard), two young teenagers who soon find their lives have been changed forever following a California wildfire that awakens a terrifying supernatural creature. Production on the series will kick off next week in Atlanta, with the series expected to debut on Paramount+ later this year.
This marks the second big Paramount+ production for Davis who also serves as a writer on the series as well as an executive producer. Davis’ Teen Wolf: The Movie recently wrapped production and is slated to debut later this year on Paramount+. Along with Davis, Joe Genier serves as an executive producer, while Mike Elliot is a co-executive producer for Capital Arts. Jason Ensler (Love, Victor) directed the pilot episode and will also receive an executive producer credit.
The Paramount+ series will reimagine the 1980s psychosexual thriller that starred Michael Douglas and Glenn Close. The film told the tale of a married man’s one-night stand that ultimately came back to haunt him after the other party decided to stalk both him and his family. In the Paramount+ series, Joshua Jackson (The Affair) will play the married man who has an affair that’ll harm the life he’s built with his wife Beth Gallagher (Peet). Lizzy Caplan (Castle Rock) will play the role of the other woman, Alex Forrest.
Fatal Attraction was written by Alexandra Cunningham (Dirty John) from a story she co-wrote with Kevin J. Hynes. The television series will hail from Paramount Television Studios and Amblin Television. It is said to explore the timeless themes of marriage and infidelity with a modern take on some of the harder-hitting themes displayed throughout.
Cunningham will serve as the showrunner for the series, and will executive produce alongside Hynes and Amblin Television presidents Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey.
Peet recently appeared in the anthology series, Dirty John: The Betty Broderick Story. She has also appeared in films such as The Whole Nine Yards and Something’s Gotta Give. She also recently served as the showrunner and creator on the Netflix series The Chair which starred Sandra Oh.
Talk about adding some star power, as Taylor Sheridan‘s Yellowstone prequel series titled 1932 has added Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford. They are going to star in the Paramount+ exclusive streaming service that is currently eyeing a December release. It was picked up back in February, which will explore a new generation of the Dutton family during the early 20th century.
The storyline will take place at the end of Prohibition and the Great Depression affects the mountain west, where the Duttons have made their home. Sadly, they won’t reveal what characters Mirren or Ford are playing as of now. It’s definitely a power move, especially after the success of Sheridan‘s Yellowstone series.
It also continues to signal Paramount+’s move to further establish the new streaming service with some powerhouse names. There have been various other spinoffs and prequels in development based on Yellowstone, such as 1883 and a spinoff 6666, which is still in early development. So, he’s been slowly building up a cinematic universe on the streaming service.
With the exception of Yellowstone, all of these projects will be part of Paramount+ with 1932 being produced by MTV Entertainment Studios, 101 Studios, and Sheridan‘s Bosque Ranch Productions. he is joined by executive producers John Linson, David C. Glasser, Art Linson, Bob Yari, Ben Richardson, and David C. Glasser.
After initially holding out, Tyler Hoechlin has closed a deal to star in the Teen Wolf movie.
The revival movie, which is currently in production, will see Hoechlin reprise his role as Derek Hale. The actor, who starred in the MTV series, was one of the few stars not confirmed to return during the initial cast announcement along with Dylan O’Brien and Arden Cho. While it is unclear why Hoechlin held out on signing on, Cho opted not to return due to salary differences. As for O’Brien, the young actor confirmed he decided not to return as he felt his character’s story ended on a good note in the series.
Other confirmed cast members returning for the revival film are Tyler Posey, Holland Roden, Shelley Hennig, Crystal Reed, Orny Adams, Linden Ashby, JR Bourne, Colton Haynes, Ryan Kelley, Melissa Ponzio, Ian Bohen, Vince Mattis, Nobi Nakanishi, Khylin Rhambo, Amy Workman and Dylan Sprayberry. More names are expected to be announced soon.
The revival film, titled Teen Wolf the Movie, will air exclusively on Paramount+. Series creator Jeff Davis returns to write and produce the film, which will see the “wolves howl once again due to a terrifying evil in Beacon Hills.” As of now, no premiere date has been set for the movie.
Hoechlin currently stars in Superman & Lois for the CW, which is confirmed to return for a third season.
It looks like Paramount has been quite happy with the success of Jackass Forever, as they are reviving the original TV series for their Paramount+ subscription service. During their Q1 earnings call, they not only highlighted their impressive subscriber growth but also went on to tease some of their additional plans, which included the announcement of a new Jackass TV series. It would be the first time they return to a TV format since the original three seasons aired on MTV back in 2000 to 2001. Bob Bakish, Paramount’s Global CEO, shared the following statement on the new series order.
Based off the success of ‘Jackass Forever,’ we’re working with the creators to continue the partnership with a new series, bringing even more ridiculous antics straight to Paramount+.
Bob Bakish
Not too long ago, they announced countless new projects and are continuing to push forward with their expansion of the service. Johnny Knoxville, who’s the de facto leader of the Jackass crew, has recently hinted that he’s done with the stunts after his work on Forever. One stunt was highlighted as exceptionally dangerous, which luckily didn’t lead to a dark end.
Of course, he could still have a role in the project and use it as an opportunity to pass the torch to a new generation, as he has a more creative role in creating the different stunts that are performed. For now, it seems they’ve mainly ordered a series with the producers, who’ll likely discuss it with the original team and we’ll see how many “veterans” will stick with the new series or potentially leave the franchise behind with their swan song that was Forever.
Multiple Star Trek: Next Generation alumni are joining the Paramount+ Original Star Trek: Picard for its final season. The returning cast from Next Generation includes LeVar Burton, Michael Dorn, Jonathan Frakes, Gates McFadden, Marina Sirtis, and Brent Spiner. While multiple actors on this list have cameoed in Picard, this will be the first time McFadden and Burton have appeared.
With Patrick Stewart reportedly saying goodbye to the character of Picard after the end of the third season, it’s great to see him getting to interact with other Star Trek characters before his departure. So, it’s certainly a way for them to give it one final hurrah and see the Next Generation cast unite once again. The third and final season of the show will be 10 episodes on Paramount+.
Along with the news, a new teaser trailer for Season 3 was also released. Star Trek: Picard is currently streaming its two seasons on Paramount+. The show follows Picard as he and his team are trapped in an alternate reality by his nemesis, Q. It’s unclear where this unlikely adventure will leave Picard and his crew. The final season is definitely adding a lot of emotional weight to the final hurrah for everyone involved, which will definitely leave us with an emotional finale.
While it seemed that Halo opened to surprisingly little fanfare, the series was still quite the hit on Paramount+. Pablo Schreiber takes on the role of Master chief in this new live-action adaptation based on the popular Xbox gaming franchise. We believed that it was a decent opening to a new series–you can check out our review by clicking here–it looks like Paramount has been quite satisfied with the release. Chief Programming Officer for the streaming service, Tanya Giles, shared the following statement on its success:
Bringing ‘Halo’ to life as a streaming series has been one of the most rewarding efforts for Paramount+ to date and we could not be more thrilled at the massive fan responses to the series’ debut. Along with our phenomenal partners at Showtime, 343 Industries, and Amblin Television, we cannot wait for fans to experience more of this incredible universe.
Tanya Giles
As per usual in the streaming world, we don’t have any exact numbers but it was highlighted that it was a clear winner. Considering the project started initially back in 2013 and has been in production for quite some time, these numbers are definitely a sigh of relief for Paramount+. They already renewed it for a second season with a new showrunner. So, it seems that the early renewal was definitely the right move and we’ll see if it can keep up that viewership over the next few weeks as it rolls out the rest of the episodes.
After one of the most infamously long production cycles for a TV series, the live-action adaptation of Halo has finally arrived. Pablo Schreiber takes on the daunting task of bringing Master Chief to life in the Paramount+ series. Video game adaptations have always had an uphill battle, and with an IP as famous as Microsoft’s Halo series, it seems like a daunting undertaking. With hints that the iconic Spartan will also reveal his face for the first time, breaking a long-time tradition of the games, the project had quite a few eyes on it how it may bring the classic sci-fi series to life.
One thing the series makes clear early on is that this isn’t a 1:1 adaptation of the original game series. Instead of going down The Mandalorian route of focusing on our masked main character, a lot of this episode’s story is told through Yerin Ha‘s Quan Ah. Not only does it ease us into the story while spending time with a human resistance faction trying to get by, but it also sets up a very different look at the Spartans. We spend the games through the eyes of Master Chief as he heroically takes on the Covenant. The UNSC is shown as a darkly flawed system with people in it willing to make sacrifices for others for the sake of their own goals. As such, the Spartans have also been twisted into something very different ahead of their initial introduction.
It sets up an important dynamic between Ah and Schreiber‘s Master Chief later. We see a desperate organization trying to paint themselves in a positive light during the war, but making rather dark decisions. We get glimpses of some bigger storylines, especially one pertaining to Cortana and Chief’s relationship with Natasha McElhone‘s Dr. Catherine Halsey. Especially with the character’s actions later in the film, they are setting up a mysterious connection between the two and further exploring his humanity.
The big opening action shot shortly after meeting Ah gives us a feeling of the series fight choreography and how it brings these super soldiers in the form of Spartans to life. It has some great moments, but some aspects of the action were quite rough. The Covenant look impressive and are translated pretty closely from their gaming counterparts. Yet, there are long stretches where the CG work looks rough and out-of-place. Some of the aliens just stand out in the wrong way and Master Chief jumping around at times seems too weightless. They were pushing the most they could out of the budget they have, but the CG work really could’ve used a bit more tweaking. Still, the action is easy to follow and we get some nice moments from the Spartan team.
We even get a brief first-person callback to the game which was a bit gimmicky but was used as a way to show us how the Spartans see the world. So, it worked in more ways than just a neat Easter egg, especially with the payoff later on. The sound effects were a joy to hear, as we get everything from the way the Covenant’s weapons sound to Chief’s armor replenishing. While the team said they didn’t look to the games for reference, they did add in enough trinkets to keep those fans happy. The best part, the fan service doesn’t overshadow the actual story.
The biggest selling point is Schreiber‘s Master Chief, as he does give us some softer moments with the character. He does show a lot of emotion through his helmet and after interacting with a strange artifact, we get to see him slowly break away from his bio-engineered programming. They are setting up an arc and the episode does end in quite a bold move that highlights this series’ new direction based around the original franchise’s lore.
The episode length does drag at times due to the number of characters it’s trying to introduce and set up for later storylines. Some of the CG work could use some additional tweaking but it’s still great to see these designs in a live-action setting. Schreiber is the standout in the series’ pilot episode and I am excited to see where he takes the character moving forward. It’s a decent start and it’ll be interesting to see how they build up this new take on a classic franchise.
Paramount+ has just released what may be their first flagship series with the live-action Halo adaptation, and they’ve already set their eyes on another project. Nickelodeon’s popular series The Loud House is now also getting a live-action adaptation that’ll start production sometime in June. It’ll be a 10-episode produced by Nickelodeon that will follow the original series closely, as Lincoln Loud has to somehow manage his life with his ten sisters. Co-Head of Nickelodeon, Shauna Phelan, had the following to say on their decision to move forward with the series:
As one of Nick’s most beloved animated franchises, ‘The Loud House’ has made its way into the hearts of millions of fans across the globe. When we brought the animated world of Royal Woods to life with ‘A Loud House Christmas,’ it instantly became a holiday favorite for both new and loyal fans alike, and I just know that they will love what our amazing creative team is preparing for this new live-action series.
Shauna Phelan
The live-action adaptation will see the return of the cast from A Loud House Christmas, a special that was released back in November. Wolfgang Schaeffer will return to play the leading role of Lincoln. Tim Hobert, Jonathan Judge, and Michael Rubiner joined the series as executive producers with Hobert acting as showrunner. The pilot of the series will be directed by Judge with Nickelodeon’s Phelan and Zack Olin supervising. There is currently no release date set.
As many people may know, before Tom Cruise was the face of Mission Impossible, the franchise actually began as a 1960’s TV show for CBS. Reportedly, the series was almost set to return to the realm of television via Paramount+, but the show never came to be.
With Paramount+ needing to bolster its offerings to compete in the streaming wars, the obvious answer is to create sequels, spin-offs and reboots to their biggest franchises. Naturally, Mission Impossible is of course a prime candidate. The streamer reportedly wanted Tom Cruise‘s production company to develop a show in the same universe, but it never came to be, likely because of the release disputes over MI:7. The production crew was also pitched a Days of Thunder show, also as a streaming exclusive, but that one fizzled out as well.
With Paramount+ definitely needing content when compared to the juggernauts like Disney, HBO, and Netflix, these potentially large and exciting projects must be a tear in their plans. While the shows aren’t going forward right now, things are constantly changing in the industry. Maybe another opportunity will arise after Mission Impossible 7 releases next year.
