  • Major ‘The Boys’ Actor Will Play New Character in Season 4

Major ‘The Boys’ Actor Will Play New Character in Season 4

The latest season finale for The Boys was all sorts of messed up, but there was one moment in particular that likely shocked viewers more than others. After spending the majority of Season 3 in hiding from Jensen Ackles’ Soldier Boy, fan favorite baddie Black Noir finally worked up the courage to confront his demons and return to Vought Tower. Unfortunately, his reunion with Toni Starr’s Homelander didn’t go exactly as planned, and the silent menace instead found himself violently gutted on the tower floor. Black Noir’s sudden death was as surprising as it was gruesome, with the move coming as soon as the show had finally begun to reveal the character’s tragic backstory. The decision to kill Noir off also deprived fans of their chance to see him face off against his former Payback captain in an epic final showdown.

Luckily for Nate Mitchell, the stunt man who spent three seasons behind the mask, Noir’s death will apparently not be the end of his time on the show. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, showrunner Eric Kripke revealed that Mitchell would return as an entirely new version of Black Noir for The Boys’ upcoming fourth batch of episodes. After teasing playfully that a character who “is completely silent and in a black mask can be recast”, the former Supernatural creative explained that Season 4 will feature a brand new character donning the infamous all-black ensemble:

It’s definitely not the last we’ve seen of Black Noir as a hero. It’s just that the guy who was inside [the Noir suit] in season 3, he’s gone. But we have Nathan playing a really interesting and hilarious character who wears the suit next season. We’ll explore it as the season goes on, but Nathan plays a whole new character.

    Eric Kripke

Kripke says he broke the news to Mitchell before filming on Season 3 began, hoping it would ease his pain of losing the original Noir interpretation. This decision was also why a different actor, Fritzy-Klevans Destine, was brought in for flashback scenes involving a speaking, maskless Noir. This way, things will be less confusing when Mitchell’s face is shown as someone else in Season 4.

The entirety of The Boys is now streaming on Amazon Prime.

Actor Karl Urban Seemingly Confirms ‘The Boys’ Season 4

Amazon Prime’s series, The Boys, released the first trailer for its upcoming third season yesterday. The hit show has gained a following for its mature, dark, violent, and humorous take on the superhero genre. While Season 3 is still months away, fans are already thinking about what lies beyond it. Amazon has not announced a fourth season for The Boys, but star Karl Urban may have just revealed that production plans for Season 4 are underway. Urban, who plays Billy Butcher, told Variety during the SXSW film festival:

I’m shooting The Boys through the end of the year.

    Karl Urban

While it is a short quote, it reveals that Urban is planning on filming for the series by the end of 2022, which seemingly confirms that plans for a fourth season are more than hypothetical. The recent trailer for the upcoming season featured Urban’s Butcher receiving mysterious superpowers of his own, a look at Jack Quaid’s Hughie in his new role in the Federal Bureau of Superhuman Affairs and even a musical theater moment. The Boys Season 3 premieres on Amazon Prime Video on June 3, 2022.

  • EXCLUSIVE: ‘STRANGER THINGS’ Season 4 Horror Influences Revealed

EXCLUSIVE: ‘STRANGER THINGS’ Season 4 Horror Influences Revealed

Production recently resumed on Stranger Things Season 4 in and around Atlanta and some interesting news has made it our way! The series has always been heavily inspired by 80’s films ranging from Fast Times at Ridgemont High to The Thing to Sixteen Candles. The brothers have also often expressed how much of the DNA of Stranger Things was inspired by legends like John Carpenter, Steven Spielberg, Stephen King and James Cameron among others. It looks like a pair of mid-80’s King and Cameron horror films may have exerted a heavy influence on Season 4.

The set of Season 4 is rich with Easter Eggs that point towards Cameron’s Alien franchise and Maximum Overdrive, a film written and directed by King based off one of his own short stories. As production has moved around Atlanta, fans have noticed that location signs have included Weyland and Mule as code names for the production. The Weyland reference isn’t quite as deep of a cut as Mule, but for those who aren’t familiar, here’s a little breakdown.

Weyland refers to the Weyland Corporation established in Cameron’s Alien franchise. It’s been heavily retconned as the franchise crossed over with Predator, but it was first seen as the Weyland-Yutani Corp in 1979’s Alien. In that future, Weyland-Yutani is one of the world’s mega corporations that has pushed human colonization of other worlds with the hidden agenda of acquiring Xenomorphs to be weaponized against their competitors.

Alien: The Weyland-Yutani Corporation's History Explained

As stated above, Mule is a little more of a deep cut. In 1986, King’s Maximum Overdrive, which he himself referred to as a “moron movie”, the Master of Horror toyed with the idea of what would happen to humans if the machines in the increasingly automated world we lived in, became sentient. Mysteriously “awakened” by a comet, sentient machines such as ATMs, vending machines and (most memorable to me) a semi with a Green Goblin face began to take out humankind. Key among the film’s main antagonists was a military vehicle, the M274 Mule (seen below), which is thankfully destroyed by the heroic Bill (played wonderfully by Emilio Estevez!).

While it’s no surprise to see the Alien franchise’s influence exerted once again (it’s been pretty much omnipresent over 3 seasons), it’s incredibly interesting to see what influence, if any, Maximum Overdrive will exert on Season 4. The film’s message about our dependence on machines is a pretty common theme, but it could always be done again. Maybe Emilio Estevez will cameo? Season 2 gave us Ghostbusters and we know the series is moving through the mid-80s, so with Maximum Overdrive and Aliens both having been on screen in 1986, which seems like where Season 4 should fall on the Stranger Things timeline, maybe the kids are watching or discussing it in an episode.  Whether thematically or directly, however, it seems King’s self-described “learning experience” and Cameron’s beloved sequel are a part of Season 4’s DNA.

  • ‘STRANGER THINGS’ Season 4 Production Update

If you’ve been following along, I’ve been working hard to keep fans updated on the production of the fourth season of Stranger Things. From detailing the Lithuanian production to narrowing down when to expect things to kick off back in Atlanta to introducing some new characters and even confirming a planned FIFTH season, I’ve been on top of production all along. Now I’ve got one more tidbit to pass along.

With filming in Lithuania wrapped (filming that I heard included not only David Harbour but also Winona Ryder), production is heading back to the United States. While I initially believed it would start in early March, it turns out I was WAY OFF. Production is set to begin in Atlanta tomorrow, February 28th.

This is good news for fans of the show as once it moves back to Atlanta, it should be easier to follow and cover. I expect to be able to bring you guys more news on the show over the next several weeks! Stay tuned to Murphy’s Multiverse…

  • What I Heard This Week: ‘STRANGER THINGS’ Season 4

Every now and then I come across some information the veracity of which can be confirmed by a second source. What happens FAR more often is that I come across some information that while believable and from trustworthy sources, cannot be confirmed by other sources for various reasons. Typically, when the second scenario occurs, I move on and forget about the information unless, in rare instances, it turns out to be proven true somewhere down the road.

As I reported in early January, production on the fourth season of Stranger Things kicked off last week in Lithuania. Filming was set to take place in and around the Lukiskes prison before moving back to its more familiar home in Atlanta. The Lithuanian prison setting has generated no shortage of fan theories as to just what to expect in Season 4 and the bit of info I heard this week will no doubt add to them…

A thing I heard this week: Winona Ryder joined David Harbour on location in Lithuania last week.

As is often the case (and to be expected with filming taking place overseas) I don’t have any context to add to what I heard. However, given that we know we will meet two new Russian characters, both of whom are fluent in English and at least one of whom is a smuggler, it’s possible that either Hopper has found some way to contact Joyce or Joyce has found some evidence of Hopper’s location and a “rescue mission” is underway!

From here on out, I prefer to leave the speculation to the more hardcore Stranger Things fans out there, but I know that this little piece of information will definitely drive some discussion out there. Please feel free to have it in the comments so I can get an idea of what you guys are thinking!

  • EXCLUSIVE: Details on Some New Faces Set to Appear Around Hawkins High in ‘STRANGER THINGS’ Season 4

Last October, TV Line reported on a handful of new characters set to appear in the upcoming 4th season of Stranger Things. I’ve been able to not only dig up some more details on those characters, but also discover a few more key new faces we should expect to see around Hawkins High School when Season 4 streams in 2021.

The vast majority of Season 3 took place in the gang’s last summer before entering high school and Season 4 seems primed to pick up right where that story ended and to introduce the kids to the whole range of high school archetypes from “the Jock” to the “Queen Bee” to the “Stoner” and more! Have a look below to meet the high school students set to interact with the heroes in Season 4.

    “Angela” and “Jake”:

The power couple of the school, “Angela” and “Jake” seemed destined to cause problems for our friends at Hawkins High. Angela is the stereotypical queen bee, out to bully and demean anyone not on her level. That likely includes her boyfriend, Jake, who is certainly not going to stand on equal intellectual ground with too many people, but isn’t afraid to show those same people just how tough he is.

    “Argyle”:

“Argyle” is the Spicoli-esque character described in the TV Line report. Described as having a “deeply chill” and “philosophical” vibe, “Argyle” is expected to play a fairly major role in the events of Season 4.

    “Vickie”:

The stereotypical alt-girl whose unapproachable appearance belies her light-heartedness. It seems like Vickie might prove as an ally to the gang as the season develops.

    “Chrissy”:

At first glance, “Chrissy” is your typical super popular cheerleader type; upon closer inspection, we’ll learn that she’s holding onto a deep-rooted darkness as she suffers under her mother’s emotional abuse

    “Jason”:

The guy we thought Steve was going to be before we all fell in love with him, “Jason” is the rich, preppy jock whose mouth never quite shuts.

    “Eddie”:

Another potential ally to our heroes, “Eddie” is an 80’s metalhead who is into Metallica, but also loves D&D.

    “Fred”:

“Fred” checks all the boxes of the stereotypical 80’s nerd. The bespectacled “Fred”, despite being nerdy, is clever and is pursuing his passion: journalism. Given all the strange events that have taken place in Hawkins and the proximity of the series leads to all of them, we’ll see if “Fred” does more harm than good once he starts digging around.

    “Mrs. Kelley”:

What high school would be complete without the guidance counselor? “Mrs. Kelley” is new to Hawkins High, meaning she might not be aware of all the crazy events. She is, however, a kind and caring soul who wears her heart on her sleeve and is out for the best interest of her students.

Given the size of the roles described above, it seems that Season 4 will spend quite a bit of time in and around Hawkins High. If there’s anything we can expect, it’s that not all of these new characters will be exactly who we think they are, but they all seem like they have their parts to play as we move towards the Season 5 denouement.

Stay tuned to Murphy’s Multiverse for more on Stranger Things!
