SDCC: ‘Shazam 2’ Star Plays Coy on Superman Cameo

During the Warner Bros. and DC presentation at San Diego Comic-Con, those lucky enough to get into Hall H were treated to plenty of exciting teases. Leading man Zachary Levi and director David F. Sandberg were on hand to unveil exclusive footage for the crowd, while also teasing what they could expect when the sequel hits theaters. While fans had the ability to ask questions, there was one question, in particular, that is sure to interest most fans.

One fan asked if we could expect Superman in all his red-caped glory to show-up, to which Sandberg responded, “That’s a spoiler. There’s a lot going on in the movie.”

While that’s neither a confirmation nor denial, it does leave hope for fans eager to see Henry Cavill return as Superman. Especially after reports suggested the actor would be on hand at the Warner Bros. panel. It remains to be seen whether or not the actor returns as the Man of Steel. However, Warner Bros. and DC have made it a habit of using a stand-in for recent Superman appearances – like in the first Shazam! film and more recently the HBO Max series Peacemaker.

Shazam! Fury of the Gods will hit theaters on Dec. 21st, 2022.

SDCC: First Details on ‘Shazam 2’ Story

We’ve all wondered what exactly the upcoming Shazam: Fury of the Gods film has in store for us. While the details are still quite sparse, the San Diego Comic-Con panel has finally started for DC’s future slate. It kicked off with one of the funniest entries in the franchise, and it offered us a small glimpse into what we can expect. As COVID hit and there’s the challenge of the teen cast aging to fast, it seems to avoid that issue they’ll simply have the film take place a few years after the original. That is not all, as it’ll also see how the team is established as heroes and they will face off against the daughters of Atlas in the upcoming film.

‘Shazam! Fury of the Gods’ to Join ‘Black Adam’ at SDCC

Despite reports initially stating Warner Bros. Discovery was looking to pull back on its presence at San Diego Comic-Con, as the company evaluated the costs spent on the convention, it looks like its DC features will be making a presence. Earlier today, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson announced that Black Adam was heading to Hall H at Comic-Con later this month. Now, it looks as though Shazam! Fury of the Gods is also set to make waves in Hall H on the 23rd.

The news was announced through the film’s social media accounts, using a short promotional video to tease the film’s SDCC presence. “Just being a tease,” is uttered by Zachary Levi‘s titular character being the screen fills with a simple message. “San Diego Comic-Con. Saturday, July 23rd.”

It remains to be seen what other titles will join both Black Adam and Shazam! at Comic-Con. While The Flash is set for release next summer, the film’s star is currently facing a slew of dangerous allegations. This leaves the recently wrapped Batgirl, and the currently filming Blue Beetle, as other possibilities that could be included in Warner Bros. Discovery’s DC presentation. For now, we’ll just have to wait for official confirmation, but it seems despite the new management, DC is still looking to leave its mark at Comic-Con.

  • ‘Shazam: Fury Of The Gods’ Shifts Release Date, Avoids ‘Avatar 2’

‘Shazam: Fury Of The Gods’ Shifts Release Date, Avoids ‘Avatar 2’

Shazam: Fury of the Gods will no longer face off against Avatar: The Way of the Water.

A day after Warner Bros. debuted footage from the film at Cinema Con, producer Jon Landau (Avatar 2) and Disney announced the DC film will no longer open against the Avatar sequel. Instead, Fury of the Gods will now move to December 21st, while The Way of the Water will retain its December 16th release date. It’s an unsurprising move, of course, as it always seemed likely one film would move — thankfully, the latest delay is only a matter of days for Shazam! fans.

Avatar: The Way of the Water, is the long-awaited sequel to the 2009 smash-hit, Avatar. The Oscar-winning film from director James Cameron, is the highest-grossing film of all time having amassed a stunning $2.8 billion at the worldwide box office. The road to the Avatar sequels has been a bumpy one with Avatar 2 having originally been slatted for December 2014. Now, eight years later, the sequel is hitting just in time for the holiday season, with the next three installments having already been dated, too.

Shazam!: Fury of the Gods is the follow-up to 2019’s Shazam! which took in $365 million at the worldwide box office. The sequel will see David F. Sandberg back behind the camera with Zachary Levi returning as the titular hero.

Warner Bros. Teases ‘Shazam: Fury of The Gods’ at CinemaCon

CinemaCon has finally arrived and brought along plenty of news for movie fans, especially those of the DC Extended Universe. On Tuesday evening, Warner Bros. Discovery took to the stage to hint at its forthcoming slate. While the studio was sure to highlight a vast array of films, most of its presentation was focused on highlighting many of its DC releases like The FlashBlack Adam, Aquaman andthe Lost Kingdom, and of course, Shazam: Fury of The Gods

CinemaCon brought us some new details on the film, with some new footage debuting at the event with stars Zachary LeviAsher AngelHelen Mirren, and Jack Dylan Grazer who were on stage to present. The panel featured some brand new footage from the film, opening with Billy having a dream that he was on a date with Wonder Woman in which she turns into the Wizard Shazam. The footage also featured the daughters of Atlas and Mirrens’ Hespera fighting Shazam.

In the footage with Billy fighting Hespera, he mentions that he has seen the Fast and The Furious movies and knows that saving the world is all about family, with the Shazam family showing up to aid the champion.

Fans were delighted to hear back in March that the sequel to 2019’s Shazam! would indeed be released much earlier than expected. Initially set to release on June 2nd, 2023, the film will hit theaters this holiday season on Dec. 16th, 2022. Fans will have to wait just a little bit longer to get a look at some footage from the film presented looks to be going public right now.

Fury of The Gods will see Levi and Angel back as the titular hero with newcomers Rachel Zegler, Lucy Liu, and Helen Miren set to play the antagonist of the film, the wicked sisters and daughters of Atlas.

  • RUMOR: Wonder Woman Will Return in ‘Shazam: Fury of The Gods’

RUMOR: Wonder Woman Will Return in ‘Shazam: Fury of The Gods’

Shazam! is considered one of the best and most beloved films within the DC Extended Universe, and rightfully so. One of the most interesting aspects of the first film is the very last frame. Billy powers up and joins Freddy for lunch as promised, however, he ends up bringing along a friend: Superman. While it wasn’t actually Henry Cavill suited up, it seems another Justice League member is making their way to Shazam’s next solo outing, with a star actively reprising the role.

It has been reported by the Illuminerdi that Gal Gadot will, indeed, be reprising her role as Wonder Woman for Shazam: Fury of The Gods in a small role. Wonder Woman’s presence in the film feels perfect as it’s leaning heavily into greek mythology this time around. Back at DC FanDome, we saw early looks at many of the monsters that the Shazamily will be facing this time around, and the first looks at the daughters of Atlas, so Wonder Woman’s knowledge would be key here.

It’s unclear just how Diana will find the Shazamily but the havoc that the three wicked sisters will cause will surely draw her attention. It’s possible that this role could set up the third film in the Wonder Woman franchise as the first film established that the gods were dead, slaughtered at the hands of Ares. This sudden return of mythos into the DCEU could lead Wonder Woman down a new path and, hopefully, back to Themyscira.

Shazam: Fury of The Gods is currently set to release in theaters on June 2, 2023.

  • Helen Mirren Accidentally Confirms Rachel Zegler’s Role in ‘Shazam: Fury of the Gods’

Helen Mirren Accidentally Confirms Rachel Zegler’s Role in ‘Shazam: Fury of the Gods’

There have been quite a few theories surrounding Rachel Zegler‘s role in Shazam: Fury of the Gods. In June, we did run the exclusive that she is actually the third sister alongside Helen Mirren‘s Hespera and Lucy Liu‘s Kalypso. It didn’t take long after until set photos found their way online of Zegler in a curious golden armor that added to the story. Well, it seems that Mirren may have accidentally confirmed her role in an interview with the Associated Press, where she includes her as the third goddess of the upcoming story.

I’m not going to tell you the answer to that. You’re going to have to ascertain for yourself. I’m a member of three goddesses: Lucy Liu as Kalypso and the third goddess played by Rachel Zegler, who will be a huge star in a very short space of time. So there are three of us together, and that was really a great experience because it’s so infrequent that you get to spend a whole of a movie with two other women. So often you’re the only woman in the cast. Here we were a trio, and that was great. I loved it.

    Helen Mirren

What doesn’t help the confirmation by Mirren is that Rachel Zegler took to Twitter and had a very curious reaction towards the statement shared by @ShazamNews that adds more fuel to the fire on her being the third sister.

So, it is safe to say that our story was on the money with her role. The reason she is still being kept a secret might be due to her role of going undercover. We saw her alongside Jack Dylan Grazer‘s Freddy Freeman. We’ll see if there’s a curious twist not only surrounding her identity but also her alliance moving forward.
