‘SHAZAM: FURY OF THE GODS’ to Include the DC Fanfare After Missing in First Film

After a long time, DC finally got its own fanfare that kicked off any of the latest films of the DC Extended Universe. It became an exciting staple for the brand and became an immediately recognizable sound that this was, indeed, a DC project. Yet, many were a bit confused when it ended up missing in the release of Shazam. Many were confused by this move and it looks like director David F. Sandberg is rectifying that with the upcoming release of the sequel Shazam: Rage of the Gods.

The director took to Instagram sharing a brief video teasing the iconic opening and confessing to the fact that he just forgot to include it in the first. He did jokingly tease that he has no idea if it might remain, as who knows if they might change the design by 2023. While he’s most likely joking, it’s not uncommon for redesigns to happen over time and even Marvel Studios changed their logo alongside the intro after some time.

The fanfare getting lost on the cutting room floor in the first film does show that sometimes productions can get quite crazy. They work on these films up until the last minute at times. Still, it’s great to use this mistake to advertise its inclusion in the sequel while also offering an update on the film’s production. We’ll see if it’ll stick around until its release.

  • ‘SHAZAM: FURY OF THE GODS’ Has Wrapped Filming

‘SHAZAM: FURY OF THE GODS’ Has Wrapped Filming

The Shazamily is returning with both the cast and director picking up their respective roles for another electrifying ride through the DCEU. It was announced last year at DC Fandome that the next film in the franchise would be titled Shazam: Fury of The Gods, leading many to wonder just what gods they’d be facing since they’d all been killed by Ares centuries ago.

While the second Shazam film isn’t set to release until 2023, director David Sandberg announced yesterday that filming has wrapped. This has left quite a large gap of time in between the end of production and release allowing for some speculation to begin.

With filming having already concluded and release so far out, what could occupy all that time aside from post-production? Possibly pre-production on a third film. One of the biggest issues the films face is with its actors. The cast is mostly made up of child actors who’ve all began to sprout up quite fast in the past years. The issue they need to avoid here is most likely the child actors outgrowing the actors who play their powered-up counterparts. With all this time in between, With how much time they have in between releases, they could easily get cameras rolling sometime in 2022 following post-production on Fury of the Gods.

Shazam: Fury of the Gods is currently set to release on June 2nd, 2023 with Zachary Levi set to return as Captain Marvel. The film will see the family up against the daughters of Atlas with Helen Mirren and Lucy Liu set to play two of the older sisters, Hespera and Kalypso.

  • New ‘Shazam: Fury of the Gods’ Set Photos Reveal a Battle-Damaged Shazam

New ‘Shazam: Fury of the Gods’ Set Photos Reveal a Battle-Damaged Shazam

We got some brand new set photos from the set of Shazam: Fury of the Gods. While they don’t reveal too much from what’s happening, it does look like our favorite hero got badly damaged from a fight. We see Zachary Levi running away from something with parts of his suit looking worse to wear. It almost seems like something burned him. Just two weeks ago, we got a first look at Helen Mirren on set as Hespera. Perhaps he took damage while fighting her. The photos were posted by Twitter user @neorvng, who got the photos as they were filming the scene. The shots show the actor racing past him.

What makes this interesting is that the suit never really saw any battle damage in the first film. It’s not like Billy Batson puts on a real suit, but rather he transformers into his alter ego with the powers of the six immoral elders. So, it must’ve been something truly powerful to leave those burn marks. It seems they were generally shooting a sequence where actors had to run away from something, which could be part of the aftermath of his fight. It’s uncertain if Levy running is part of that sequence, or if the actor was just running for another reason.

Overall, it also promises a darker storyline in the sequel. The first film already had some pretty harsh scenes involving the Seven Deadly Sins and the sequel might take it up a notch. We don’t know what the plot is exactly, but if anyone can damage Shazam that way, it’s going to be quite the threat to face for the group of unlikely heroes.

  • First Look at Helen Mirren’s Hespera in Latest ‘Shazam Fury of the Gods’ Set Photos

First Look at Helen Mirren’s Hespera in Latest ‘Shazam Fury of the Gods’ Set Photos

It looks like we finally got our first look at Helen Mirren on the set of Shazam: Fury of the Gods. Not just that, but she is even wearing her Greek-inspired outfit for her role as the villainous Hespera, who will appear in the film alongside her sister Kalypso played by Lucy Liu. We get a close look at her costume, which includes a very interesting horned crown and she is standing alongside Zachary Levi in his Shazam suit. It’s uncertain if this might be their first confrontation init eh film or Billy is learning about the history of his powers through her only to betray him later. Still, it’s great to finally get a good look at her in all her glory.

As we can’t share the pictures of JustJared, you can check them out by clicking here.

It’s interesting that her look found a way online, as director David F. Sandberg has been keeping a close eye to be ahead of paparazzi. He even released the first look at the entire Shazam family in their new look to make sure they were ahead of any leaked set photos. Well, it seems he might’ve not expected them to snap a shot of Mirren so soon, as this is our first full look at her design. It also means we might potentially get a look at Lucy Liu, whose design might be quite similar to her on-screen sister. Sandberg might release our first look at the sisters in the coming days to get ahead of any other leaks. It’s going to be the race to see which image finds its way online first.

  • Grace Fulton to Replace Michelle Borth as Super-Powered Mary in ‘Shazam: Fury of The Gods’

Grace Fulton to Replace Michelle Borth as Super-Powered Mary in ‘Shazam: Fury of The Gods’

The first Shazam film took its inspiration from the character’s golden age adventures. It brought the character to life in all his goofy and heroic glory. Towards the end of the film, we saw Billy Batson, powered up as Shazam, struggling to face Doctor Sivana and the Seven Deadly Sins. He couldn’t finish them alone. So, he offered to share the powers with his foster siblings. Upon grabbing the staff and saying the name, audiences got introduced to a whole new roster of heroes.

With Shazam Fury of The Gods, most assumed that all the actors would be returning from the first film. With today’s reveal by director David Sandberg of the family’s brand new costumes, many noticed a new yet familiar face suited up alongside them. As confirmed by Sandberg, actress Grace Fulton, who plays Mary Bromfield in the film, will now be playing both versions of her character, replacing actress Michelle Borth.

No reasoning for this change was given by either Sandberg or Fulton. The recasting wasn’t announced by the studio either. So, it seems like a deliberate little secret to announce alongside the suit reveal. It’s not an unwelcome one, as Fulton‘s bubbly personality is perfect for both roles. She was the closest in age to her powered-up version, which made the casting of another actress a curious decision. This seems to be the only recasting for the film with the rest of the Shazamily returning to play their respective powered-up roles from the first film. We cannot wait to see what she brings to the character.

  • ‘Shazam: Fury of the Gods’ David F. Sandberg Shares First Look at the Family’s New Suits

‘Shazam: Fury of the Gods’ David F. Sandberg Shares First Look at the Family’s New Suits

The biggest enemy of many superhero films is the moment they try to shoot in open areas. It becomes easy for anyone with a smartphone to get a shot of the actors wearing their latest outfits or suits. In the worst case, it could even give away a cameo that was being kept secret up until its release. Well, it seems that Shazam director David F. Sandberg didn’t want that to happen and went out of his way to share the brand new outfits for the entire Shazam family on Twitter. It gives us a detailed look at the brand new suits they’ll don in Shazam: Fury of the Gods.

We already got a good look at Zachary Levi some time ago, who was sighted without his iconic cape. We knew that the tradition would continue as every superhero film introduces an updated outfit. Overall, it seems they added a lot more details that make them pop. It’s also interesting that the lighting makes these outfits look quite a bit darker than before. So, it could look very different once the film officially airs. It’s great to see the group together again wearing the iconic outfits and it’ll be interesting to see if the rest of the family have a bigger role in the sequel. It would be a waste not to give each member more time to shine, especially as they only got introduced quite late during the last film.

  • Latest ‘Shazam: Fury of the Gods’ Set Photos Reveal Rachel Zegler in Golden Armor

Latest ‘Shazam: Fury of the Gods’ Set Photos Reveal Rachel Zegler in Golden Armor

Not too long ago, we broke the story that Rachel Zegler was spotted wearing golden armor on top of a rooftop. It was an interesting reveal, as she was also spotted in a high school setting alongside Jack Dylan Grazer’s Freddy. Now, her role remains under wraps, and hints are pointing to her potentially being part of the three sisters with only Helen Mirren’s Hespera and Lucy Liu’s Kalypso confirmed.  It looks like the set photos have finally found their way online, as the images showcasing the actress in the before-mentioned golden armor got shared on Reddit.

The actress officially joined the production around three months ago and is the second Colombian American joining a DC project. She’s been an up-and-coming actress who has garnered a lot of attention after getting the leading role opposite Ansel Elgort in Steven Spielberg’s remake of West Side Story. She is joining the returning Zachary Levi, who was already sighted on set with a brand-new look as the titular hero Shazam. As production ramps up, we might expect a lot more set photos to find their way home giving us an inkling of the story. We still don’t know which Gods will enact their fury in the film. So, we may find out who the Three Sisters are working alongside to get their hands on the Shazam family.

  • First ‘SHAZAM: FURY OF THE GODS’ Set Photos Reveal Zachary Levi’s New Suit

First ‘SHAZAM: FURY OF THE GODS’ Set Photos Reveal Zachary Levi’s New Suit

It’s always a great moment when a new film or TV project enters production. Not only does it bring us one step closer to its release, but there is also the chance that set photos to find their way online. Luckily, it seems the tradition continues as the first look at Zachary Levi on the set of Shazam: Fury of the Gods has already been released. It offers our first new look at the actor in his superhero suit. So far, the images only include our first look at the actor.

We are not allowed to share the images, but you can find them on JustJared.com by clicking here.

Overall, the suit sticks to its red and gold aesthetic. Of course, the cape is missing but you can clearly see the buttons that normally hold it, which confirms it is added through CG later on. However, there are some interesting differences as his golden bracelets include more detail with a red finishing. Even his bolt seems to be slightly smaller than before. New red lines are coming out of the lightning bolt that connects to his shoulder.

Now, they may change some aspects of the suit through CG work once production ends but it does offer a great look. It is a tradition that each new installment of a superhero film also upgrades the outfit. It’ll be interesting to see if they give an in-universe explanation for the new design, as Billy Batson transforms into the hero through the magic word Shazam. Perhaps he gets a power upgrade at one point in the film.

  • EXCLUSIVE: First Details on Rachel Zegler’s Character in ‘SHAZAM: FURY OF THE GODS’

EXCLUSIVE: First Details on Rachel Zegler’s Character in ‘SHAZAM: FURY OF THE GODS’

Around three months ago, it was confirmed that West Side Story‘s Rachel Zegler has joined the upcoming Shazam sequel. Originally, there were theories that she might be part of Greek myth’s Three Sisters alongside Helen Mirren and Lucy Liu’s, who are playing Hespera and Kalypso, but her role remained under wraps until now. Still, there was no evidence to confirm this theory so far. Luckily, we got our hands on some information and can exclusively report that she will be playing a character called Anne and were able to get our hands on some details regarding her character.

SPOILER WARNING FOR SHAZAM! Fury of the Gods below!

Our sources have revealed that Zegler has filmed a scene, where she is referred to as Anne. It takes place at a school, where she is flirting with Jack Dylan Grazer‘s Freddy Freeman, indicating that she would play a love interest for Freddy. It casts some doubt that she might be one of the sisters after all. Yet, don’t let the “love interest” part fool you. We have also learned exclusively that a scene with Zegler was filmed on a rooftop that involved her wearing golden armor. It seems rather unlikely that a normal, unpowered schoolgirl would be wearing that on a rooftop.

So, there might be more to her background after all and she could be pretending to get closer to Freddy. Anne isn’t really a name that goes with Hespera and Kalypso too well, so we should expect Zegler will have an alternate character name as the youngest of the sisters. As for what she’s up to going to school and flirting with Freddy, time will tell. But here’s hoping she doesn’t break poor Freddy’s heart while she and her sisters mess with the Shazam!-fam in the upcoming sequel!

  • Mark Strong Not Returning for ‘Shazam: Fury of The Gods’

Mark Strong Not Returning for ‘Shazam: Fury of The Gods’

The first Shazam film followed Billy Batson’s journey into becoming a hero and facing his first real supervillain, Thaddeus Sivana. The character was played by Mark Strong and left quite an impression. After the credits rolled, he was visited by the sentient caterpillar Mr. Mind in jail, which led to many of us assuming they would become the main antagonists in the sequel. The recent castings have pointed the sequel in a different direction and in a recent interview with Den of Geek, Strong confirmed that he would not be returning for the sequel.

I literally spoke to the producer last night, because I saw that Zach Levi tweeted that they’re about to start shooting in Atlanta. Doctor Sivana isn’t in Shazam! 2. What’s happened is, I think Helen Mirren and Lucy Liu and perhaps someone else — they’ve got some female villains in. And to be honest with you, I’m very happy to take a back seat to some female villains and let them have a go, because judging by the work that Emma Thompson and Emma Stone have done in Cruella, it’s about time.

It’s entirely possible Sivana and Mind could return in a future project. They may be assembling the Monster Society of Evil behind the scenes so that they have a fighting chance against the newly founded Shazamily. Shazam: Fury of the Gods will release in 2023 and will see the additions of Luci Liu and Helen Mirren in antagonistic roles.
