    SWCA: Babu Frik to Return in ‘The Mandalorian’ Season 3

    It looks like an iconic character from the Star Wars Sequel trilogy will make their live-action return in the upcoming third season of The Mandalorian. During the Mando+ panel of the Star Wars Celebration event, it was announced that Babu Frik will make his return. While no details were shared on when he might be expected to show up or what role he’ll have but it’s great to know that the popular Rise of Skywalker series will make his return. There is a chance that it may also be someone from his race, but it seems that it could be the character from the sequel film.

    It looks like The Mandalorian’s upcoming third season has received an upgrade to its team. While Jon Favreau remains the lead on The Mandalorian, it was the team of talented directors that he got together that defined the project as one of Star Wars‘ most creative and grounded within the original era. Now, it seems that Rick Famuyiwa, who directed some iconic films like Confirmation and Dope, is now joining the project as an executive producer. He worked on some episodes such as “The Child,” “The Prisoner,” and “The Believer.”

    Bryce Dallas Howard Confirmed to Direct an Episode of ‘The Mandalorian’ Season 3

    In a surprising twist that probably everyone saw coming, Bryce Dallas Howard is returning to direct an episode of The Mandalorian‘s upcoming third season. The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed what was first hinted at by Discussing Film’s Jacob Fisher back in January. Howard has become quite popular as someone to take on a film in the franchise after bringing some of the franchise’s best episodes to life. This makes her fourth episode, as she worked on the first two seasons with “Sanctuary” and “The Heiress.” Though she made quite the impact with her work on The Book of Boba Fett‘s “Return of the Mandalorian.”

    It’s unclear if she may also be tackling an episode of the upcoming Ahsoka spinoff series, but THR can confirm that a “handful” of episodes will be tackled by director Dave Filoni, who made his mark on the franchise with his work on The Clone Wars. It’s unclear if it may also act more like an in-between season for Din Djarin’s story, who kind of took over Boba Fett’s after a few episodes.

    Howard has become quite a popular choice to work on quite a few different projects, as she’s also Colin Trevorrow‘s pick to tackle a Jurassic World film. So, it’s clear that she has nothing to worry about in the future as she’s a fan pick for many to tackle some massive franchises. So, it’ll be exciting to see where her future will be and what other directing jobs she might be interested in taking.

    SWCA: ‘The Mandalorian’s Volume Was First Used on 2018’s ‘Solo’

    The Mandalorian was a landmark project that pushed the technology known as The Volume. Instead of using a green screen, they create digital assets put on actual LED screens surrounding the actors and their performance. Since its first use, the technology has evolved quite a bit and even became a staple for big-budget films like The Batman and the upcoming Thor: Love and Thunder. Yet, it turns out that the initial version of the technology has its origin back in 2018, as it was used in Solo: A Star Wars Story.

    Our very own Hunter Radesi has shared some insights from a press conference with Ron Howard during the Star Wars Celebration event. There, the director revealed that the technology that would eventually become one of The Mandalorian‘s hallmarks was briefly used in that film. The only difference was that they didn’T use it for a 360° shot but rather just in the Millenium Falcon’s cockpit.

    It seems that they wanted the actors to experience what it was like going into hyperspace while sitting in the cockpit, which was the first use of the Volume within the Star Wars franchise. It definitely is an interesting surprise and it’s crazy to think just how far the technology has come since those days. It’ll also be interesting to see what the future has in store for it as it continues to evolve and potentially become an essential tool for modern filmmaking.

    While it looks like they won’t share anything from The Mandalorian‘s third season, Hunter Radesi has been keeping us updated from the event. It looks like the upcoming season will see our return to their homeworld of Mandalore, as footage descriptions tease the words echoed from the Armorer, as well as the arrival of multiple Mandalorians. While there were hints the series might premiere in 2022 after all, it seems that they have now confirmed a 2023 release.

    Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni Had Heated Debates Over ‘The Mandalorian’s Grogu

    The Mandalorian was the series to not only kick off Disney+ but also redefine Star Wars storytelling. With Jon Favreau at its head, the same man who kickstarted the Marvel Cinematic Universe, we’ve started to see a new expensive network of shows all based around this series, such as last year’s The Book of Boba Fett and Dave Filoni‘s upcoming Ahsoka.

    In an interview with Vanity Fair, Lucasfilm CEO Kathleen Kennedy talks about what it’s like working with him and how ended up developing The Mandalorian.

    I knew that Jon Favreau was always deeply interested in Star Wars. He was the first person I went to. He said, ‘Not only would I have an interest, I have an idea.’ What’s unique about Jon is his commitment. He’s had a sole focus pretty much on this for the last several years. That’s been a godsend.

    She reveals that after they met in her office in Santa Monica, Favreau already started working on the series. He ended up writing up around four episodes even though he didn’t even have a contract at the time. Interestingly enough, there were multiple conflicts when he started developing the series based on a Mandalorian. Not only was James Mangold originally developing a Boba Fett-centric film, but Dave Filoni also had plans for it.

    So, Kennedy had a simple way to remedy this issue, as while Mangold went on to tackle Indiana Jones 5, she simply had Filoni and Favreau sit down and talk about their visions. Once they started exchanging ideas, they started combining them into what would eventually become The Mandalorian.

    “They got along instantly, like gangbusters,” Kennedy revealed but there was one element they couldn’t fully decide on. It seems that Favreau’s idea of Grogu, who many dubbed Baby Yoda early on, was quite a ferocious discussion point between the two. Yet, she highlighted this as them trying to challenge each other to truly refine the concept and it led to us getting the series that became a staple of Disney+.

    ‘The Mandalorian’ Season 3 May Not Release Until 2023

    There’s been a lot of discussion on when we can expect the next season of The Mandalorian. Even its spinoff series stayed true to the December release date, which had many guesses that Season 3 wouldn’t be much different. Yet, it seems that the exact release window isn’t specified as of now and we may not get the series until early 2023. According to Vanity Fair’s new June issue, we got an insight into what the future holds for the Star Wars projects.

    The Pedro Pascal-led series that kicked off the TV renaissance for Star Wars is currently uncertain to release either by the end of 2022, but could also potentially find its way to Disney+ early 2023. Given some reported delays during production, it may be the reason for it to potentially get pushed back. The same article also confirms that Ahsoka will follow next year, which is the second The Mandalorian spinoff series currently in development.

    No reason was given, but we’re also still waiting for some kind of update on Star Wars: The Bad Batch whose second season was also rumored to premiere this year. So, it may be that they are currently keeping it open depending on how far along some projects are and when is the best time to release them. For now, it’s good we got a least a glimpse and if it does release 2022, it seems very likely to stick to the December release window at this rate.

    Bryce Dallas Howard is Ready To Direct a ‘Star Wars’ Film

    Disney+ has given us a whole new look into the Star Wars Universe with its original series The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett. Those series have featured multiple episodes directed by Bryce Dallas Howard, for what many fans believe to be some of the best of both shows. For a while now, people have to say Howard deserves a shot a directing a film, we hear have even talked about how she’d be perfect for one and even recently ranked her amongst our top picks for the new Fantastic Four director.

    In an interview with Gizmodo, while promoting her newest film, Jurassic World: Dominion, Bryce Dallas Howard was asked if she was ready to take the reigns of a Star Wars feature film, and it seems like she’s onboard if someone is willing to ask her.

    Oh, my goodness, I think it would take someone asking me.

    Howard‘s episodes of The Mandalorian are seen as some of the most memorable with “Sanctuary” seeing the first meeting of Dinn Djarin and Cara Dune. In it, the pair band together to defend a village from a group of raiders who’ve taken control of an empire AT-ST. “The Heiress” was another one of her episodes, bringing Bo-Katan and the Night Owls into live-action, previously only seen in Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars: Rebels.

    But perhaps her most coveted work is in episode 5 of The Book of Boba Fett. In “The Return of The Mandalorian” we see the return of Dinn Djarin as he plans to visit Grogu, but is stopped by Ahsoka Tano in order to help him continue the youngling’s training. The episode also features the first on-screen meeting of Tano and Luke Skywalker, quite the monumental moment for fans of the franchise.

    While there’s no word on a possible project right now for Howard, Star Wars Celebration is rapidly approaching and we will hopefully get some news on the future there.

    Star Wars’ Next ‘The Mandalorian’ Spinoff ‘Ahsoka’ Has Started Production

    All eyes have been busy on Marvel’s various ventures and films, it’s finally time for Star Wars to take the limelight once again. Disney+ has just shared a new image that confirms that The Mandalorian spinoff series Ahsoka has finally started production. Sadly, the image doesn’t really give anything away or a look at the production, it’s a confirmation that they’ve finally started work on it. It’s the second spinoff series to come out of the Star Wars series that started Disney+’s hold on the streaming market after The Book of Boba Fett was released back in December.

    It’ll be interesting to see if the series follows some similar elements that we saw in The Book of Boba Fett, where the story suddenly turned into a continuation of The Mandalorian. While it does create a very unique yearly release model as everyone’s story intertwines with each other, it does go against usual TV mentalities as it creates confusion for those watching The Book of Boba Fett or Ahsoka as its own project.

    We’ll see what the future may hold for the Star Wars series, especially as they expand with some new projects. Obi-Wan Kenobi is confirmed as a limited series, but it may still possibly also set up more series moving forward. While Marvel has been moving forward with their new projects, it seems that Lucasfilm, who actually kicked off the streaming service initially, still in a preparation stage for their projects.

    ‘Into the Spider-Verse’ Director Peter Ramsey Attached to ‘Star Wars: Ahsoka’

    Star Wars keeps attracting some amazing talent, as The Hollywood Reporter has just revealed that Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse director and first black filmmaker to win the animated feature at the Oscars, Peter Ramsey has joined the upcoming Disney+ series Ahsoka. The latest in a line of Star Wars series that also acts as a spinoff of The Mandalorian, which reintroduced the titular character from Star Wars: The Clone Wars into live-action with Rosario Dawson taking on the role.

    Currently, the production is eyeing starting its cameras in Los Angeles later this month. It is unclear how many episodes Ramsey will direct and if others are also attached. All we know about the series is that Ahsoka will be traveling across the galaxy on the hunt for Grand Admiral Thrawn, which continues the storyline set up in Star Wars: Rebels. The series has already attached Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Ivanna Sakhno, and Natasha Liu Bordizzo.

    While we’re still waiting for any info on how ill play Thrawn, we do know that Ray Stevenson has been cast in a villainous role alongside the confirmation that Hayden Christensen will return once again after appearing in May’s Obi-Wan Kenobi. There’s still the rumor that Mena Massoud might join the series as Ezra Bridger, but that has still not been confirmed so far. For now, we’ll see if more details arrive once they start production.
