  • ‘The Walking Dead’ Spinoff Featuring Rick and Michonne, Coming in 2024

‘The Walking Dead’ Spinoff Featuring Rick and Michonne, Coming in 2024

AMC has announced that the The Walking Dead spin-off featuring Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira will debut in 2024.

This spin-off will reunite their characters, Rick and Michonne, onscreen and provide closure to two of the most beloved characters in The Walking Dead. The still untitled show, has been described as an “epic love story.” The project was first teased at Comic-Con International in San Diego last summer and was initially thought to be released this year. The series finale of The Walking Dead drew more than 2 million viewers, and while the Rick and Michonne project was originally developed as a series of films, AMC has seemingly changed those plans to potentially recapture the magic of the original series early on. Production on the untitled Rick and Michonne series will begin later this year.

In addition to the Rick and Michonne spin-off, AMC is also developing The Walking Dead: Dead City with Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon with Norman Reedus. “This next phase of our beloved Walking Dead franchise promises to engage and enthrall faithful viewers,” said Dan McDermott, president of entertainment and AMC Studios at AMC Networks. “Fans new and old will love seeing zombies walking across the Brooklyn Bridge, beneath the Eiffel Tower, inside the Louvre, and at dozens more exotic and iconic locations from around the country and world.”

The synopsis for the forthcoming series can be read below.

Lincoln and Gurira reunite for a new spinoff series that will finally continue the journey of Rick Grimes and Michonne characters. This series presents an epic love story of two characters changed by a changed world. Kept apart by distance. By an unstoppable power. By the ghosts of who they were. Rick and Michonne are thrown into another world, built on a war against the dead… And ultimately, a war against the living. Can they find each other and who they were in a place and situation unlike any they’ve ever known before? Are they enemies? Lovers? Victims? Victors? Without each other, are they even alive — or will they find that they, too, are the Walking Dead?

Scott Gimple serves as the showrunner and executive producer on the untitled series alongside its stars, Lincoln and Gurira.

  • Daryl Dixon’s ‘The Walking Dead’ Spinoff Adds 2 to Cast

Daryl Dixon’s ‘The Walking Dead’ Spinoff Adds 2 to Cast

The Walking Dead is coming to an end, long live The Walking Dead. As AMC has been busy promoting the end of its long-running series while also promoting the next generation with various spinoffs in some form of development. Among them is one focused primarily on Daryl Dixon. Norman Reedus is set to lead the series as his iconic character once again, as he seemingly finds his way to Europe.

Now, the upcoming spinoff series has added two to its cast. Clémence Poésy from The Essex Serpent and Chernobyl‘s Adam Nagaitis will join the cast with the latter also once again returning to AMC after having appeared in The Terror. Little is still known about the spinoff series outside of it taking place in France as we explore a new corner of this zombie-infested world.

Poésy is set to take on the role of Isabelle, the female lead of this project, who is a member of a religious group and ends up having to confront her dark past. Nagaitis will take on the role of a black market and nightclub owner that has made quite a living in the post-apocalypse. Melissa McBride was originally also going to have a big role in the series but opted out of the project. So, it’ll be interesting to see how they tackle her absence and generally what exactly would inspire Dixon to find his way across the Atlantic.

  • ‘Interview with the Vampire’ and ‘The Walking Dead’ Boost AMC+’s Viewership and Subscriber Growth

‘Interview with the Vampire’ and ‘The Walking Dead’ Boost AMC+’s Viewership and Subscriber Growth

It looks like AMC’s decision to invest in Anne Rice-focused projects was the right decision. According to Variety, the first release, Interview with the Vampire, has been a major boost for their AMC streaming service. It and The Walking Dead’s final season kick-off played a big part in giving the service its highest two days of viewership and subscriber growth since its initial launch back in 2020. AMC+ has shared the following statement:

The premiere of ‘Interview’ and the return of The Walking Dead’ drove AMC+ to the most successful two days in its history on Sunday and Monday and highest levels of series viewership and new subscriber acquisition ever.

The service pulled in 10.8M subscribers across all platforms including AMC+ with the premiere of Interview with the Vampire being the biggest launch for the service. It seemingly beat out the freshman drama Dark Winds that previously held that record and managed to triple that series numbers. So, AMC is going to continue to bank on the newly won popularity of these projects.

According to some data that Variety could acquire, it seems that 75% of the first streams were from new customers, which is quite a substantial showcase of just how big the draw was. The timing of a massive new series based on a highly popular book released around the same time as AMC’s biggest series ever seemed like the perfect recipe for success.

  • SDCC: Rick and Michonne’s ‘The Walking Dead’ Limited Series Eyeing 2023 Release

SDCC: Rick and Michonne’s ‘The Walking Dead’ Limited Series Eyeing 2023 Release

During the show’s Hall H panel on Thursday, former The Walking Dead castmates Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira surprised everyone by taking to the stage to announce their own spinoff series. The new series, which does not yet have an official title, is meant to wrap up the story arcs of their characters, Rick and Michonne, respectively.

The description for the series promises an epic love story set against a changed world. Rick and Michonne have been kept apart by distance. They’ve survived a war against the dead before being forced to face off against the living. Now, they’ll need to find each other once again as they struggle to adapt to a place and situation, unlike anything they’ve ever known before. They’ll need to rediscover themselves and determine if they are lovers, victims, or victors – or perhaps even the walking dead.

The news of the spinoff, one of many in development, comes as The Walking Dead readies to end its run after eleven seasons. The Walking Dead is based on the comics of the same name from Robert Kirkman, Tony Moore, and Charlie Adlard. It focuses on a world where survivors of an apocalyptic event are left to fend for themselves in a collapsed civilization overrun by zombies known as walkers.

Lincoln’s Rick Grimes exited the series following Season 9’s fifth episode titled, “What Comes After.” While the series left Rick’s fate open-ended, we later learn that he, in fact, survived and was taken away on a helicopter. While Gurira’s Michonne last appeared in the show’s tenth season, where she took off in search of Rick.

The Walking Dead Universe’s Chief Content Officer, Scott M. Gimple, is set to serve as the showrunner of the series. Both Lincoln and Gurira will serve as executive producers on the spinoff. The untitled series will debut with six episodes sometime next year.

  • Lauren Cohan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s ‘Isle of the Dead’ Adds Gaius Charles

Lauren Cohan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s ‘Isle of the Dead’ Adds Gaius Charles

While The Walking Dead spinoff focused on Daryl and Carol has hit a snag with Melissa McBride leaving the project, Isle of the Dead is moving forward. Deadline has just reported that the project led by Lauren Cohan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan has now added actor Gaius Charles as an additional lead. He’ll join their journey through a post-apocalyptic Manhattan, which has been cut off and is now a cesspool filled to the brim with Walkers, and anarchy reigns among its survivors.

Charles will take on the role of Izaak, who has a strong sense of justice and unyieldingly follows his own path. He enjoys what he does and certainly adds some humor to the terror he pushes. Izaak is also looking after his wife and daughters, and we may uncover a loss in his life that he still carries with him to this day, yet he never runs away fro his mistakes.

Gaius Charles made his name with his portrayal of Brian “Smash” Williams on Friday Night Lights, as well as a recurring role on The Wonder Years, Roswell, New Mexico, and Queens. The AMC and AMC+ series is eyeing a 2023 release. It’ll consist of six episodes with Scott M. Gimple, Chief Content Officer of The Walking Dead franchise, producing the series alongside Eli Jorné, Cohan, and Morgan.

  • BREAKING: Melissa McBride Exits Daryl and Carol-Focused ‘Walking Dead’ Spinoff

BREAKING: Melissa McBride Exits Daryl and Carol-Focused ‘Walking Dead’ Spinoff

It looks like it’s the season to leave projects behind. Just the other day, Fast X lost its director spiraling the production into an instant halt. The same is now happening to the AMC’s The Walking Dead series as the upcoming Daryl and Carol spinoff has lost one of its main stars. Melissa McBride, who plays Carol, has left the project and will now only focus on Norman Reedus‘ Daryl. It seems that the decision for her to leave the project was a creative one.

The original project was announced back in September of 2020 but not much was known about the project outside of it starring Reedus and McBride. They were long-time cast members of the original series and the dynamic between them was something that kept many watching. Yet, it seems that Daryl is going to have to be on his own in his next adventure that is being created by Scott M. Gimple and Angela Kang.

It’s quite shocking when a production loses one of its main stars, especially as they were ramping up work on the project as the original The Walking Dead is coming to an end. We’ll see how they’ll tackle the project and what it might mean for Carol’s future in the franchise. They might either simply have them separated due to an event, or perhaps they could even simply have them set out towards different goals. We’ll have to see once they start work on the project.

  • ‘Isle of the Dead’ Spinoff is One of Many Pitched Maggie and Negan Spinoffs

‘Isle of the Dead’ Spinoff is One of Many Pitched Maggie and Negan Spinoffs

The Walking Dead continues to grow its potential with various new spinoff series in some form of production. There’s an anthology series on its way titled The Tales of the Walking Dead, and we also got the confirmation of one titled Isle of the Dead. This series caught everyone by surprise as it’ll focus on Lauren Cohan‘s Maggie joining forces with Jeffrey Dean Morgan‘s Negan.

In an interview with Comicbook.com, Cohan reveals that they went through quite a few ideas before they landed on the current version. It seems that they definitely wanted to further explore the dynamic between Maggie and Negan, which has certainly changed since Morgan joined the show in quite a memorable introduction.

I know there have always been three, maybe four options for how Maggie would end up in a spinoff. For Maggie or Negan there’s been a bunch of ideas floating around. I think this story that Eli Jorne came up with, which is what we’ll be shooting for season one of Isle of the Dead, was just really powerful and such an interesting way for fans to get to see these characters continue.

    Lauren Cohan

The spinoff will explore the two characters exploring what is left of Manhattan, as it became cut off from the mainland and is now filled with a horde of Walkers. It’ll be interesting to see what exactly leads them to explore Manhattan and how they end up surviving a horde of Walkers that are just waiting for some fresh meat.

  • ‘The Walking Dead’ Has Wrapped Its Final Episode After 11 Seasons

‘The Walking Dead’ Has Wrapped Its Final Episode After 11 Seasons

It’s always bittersweet when a project comes to an end, especially if a team has been working on it for quite some time. After 12 years of production, The Walking Dead has official wrapped production on its final episode before AMC’s zombie-infested world expands into other projects. There are quite a few spinoffs already on the way, but it’s still crazy to think that the series that started in 2010 has gone on for that many seasons and managed to wrap up with its eleventh season.

The official Twitter account has shared a tweet to highlight the ending of the journey with a look at its final clipboard alongside the cast. Even as sadly many have left the project over the years, each one left an imprint on the story of what was once a small group of survivors facing off against the zombies called the Walkers.

They continued the tradition of keeping the comic inspiration as part of the clipboard. It’s also great to see the entire cast together on set one last time, as many will head out to tackle a brand new project. Of course, as many are veterans in the franchise they might also join the other productions, such as the Isle of the Dead series starring Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Lauren Cohan. They also have an anthology series on the way that will include some familiar and new faces as well with The Tales of the Walking Dead. So, zombies aren’t going anywhere.

  • Lauren Cohan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan to Return in New ‘The Walking Dead’ Spinoff Titled ‘Isle of The Dead’

Lauren Cohan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan to Return in New ‘The Walking Dead’ Spinoff Titled ‘Isle of The Dead’

The flagship series of The Walking Dead franchise is set to end its run later this year with its eleventh season. The series has spawned multiple spin-offs and even some films that remain in some stage of development. Yet, it seems things are moving on yet another series set within the world of The Walking Dead.

Lauren Cohan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan are set to reprise their roles as Maggie Rhee and Negan in an all-new spin-off. The series will be titled Isle of The Dead and feature their characters making their way to what’s left of Manhattan, cut off from the mainland and filled with deadly Walkers. The first season will run for only six episodes, a departure from the other series high episode counts.

Isle of The Dead joins multiple other spin-off projects such as Fear The Walking Dead, Walking Dead: World Beyond, currently untitled Daryl and Carol spin-off, a series of Rick Grimes films, and an upcoming anthology series set within the universe titled Tales of The Walking Dead. No further casting has been announced just yet, but we can probably expect Kien Michael Spiller, who plays Maggie’s son, Hershel Rhee, to return alongside Cohan and Morgan.

The series will be produced by Scott M. Gimple and Eli Jorné, who will also serve as showrunners on the series. The series is currently set to release sometime in 2023 on AMC as well as AMC+. This is the latest spin-off but most likely will not be the last as an era of television comes to an end with The Walking Dead.

  • Olivia Munn, Jessie T. Usher, and More Join ‘Tales of the Walking Dead’

Olivia Munn, Jessie T. Usher, and More Join ‘Tales of the Walking Dead’

The cast of the upcoming Walking Dead anthology spinoff continues to grow, as they add some pretty big names to further explore the many corners of a zombie-filled world. IN a new piece by TV Insider, it seems that the series had added Olivia Munn, Danny Ramirez, Jessie T. Usher, Loan Chabanol, and Embeth Davidtz to the upcoming series.

They join an ever-expanding cast that will include a variety of new faces and were teased to include some familiar ones as well. So, who knows who else might make an appearance throughout the show’s runtime. So far, the series has added Cowboy Bebop‘s Daniella Pineda, Anthony Edwards, Jilian Bell, Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s Terry Crews, and many more.

We’ll see just how big the cast might grow, as they start preparing to enter production. It’s unclear if they’ll announce any of the recurring cast, as they might be included as a surprise to keep viewers on their toes throughout its runtime. There’s also no set timeline for the anthology series. It would be curious to see just how much more they might reveal.

It’s crazy to think how large the series based on a zombie apocalypse would grow over all these years. Such a simple concept – based on a pre-existing comic series – offered many more avenues for creatives to explore and shows just how much potential there is with a simple concept. It’ll be interesting to see just how far AMC might push the franchise moving forward.
