As word came that Titans and DoomPatrol were coming to the end of their run on HBO Max, fans of the two DC streaming series voiced their displeasure online. One such fan took to Twitter to blame newly christened co-chairs of DC Studios, James Gunn and Peter Safran, for the cancellations. As usual, however, Gunn used social media to set the record straight.
“The decision to end the series precedes us,” said Gunn. He added, “But I certainly wish the best for the talented group of creators, actors and the rest of the crew that produced both shows.“

The two series have grown devoted followings over the years with DoomPatrol routinely being among the most well-received DC projects. Gunn is expected to make news soon by revealing some of the projects on the new DC Studios’ slate.
It’s official, after months of speculation, it has been confirmed that Doom Patrol and Titans will end their runs on HBO Max. Originally designed as DC Universe exclusives, the shows were moved to HBO Max after DC Universe shifted its focus to comics. The current fourth seasons of both series will be their last. Luckily, for fans of the series, though, the producers on both shows expected the decision and were able to give the shows a proper ending for fans.
“While these will be the final seasons of Titans and Doom Patrol, we are very proud of these series and excited for fans to see their climactic endings,” an HBO Max spokesperson said in a press release to The Hollywood Reporter.
“We are grateful to Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros. Television for making such thrilling, action-packed, heartfelt series. We thank Titans showrunner Greg Walker, executive producers Greg Berlanti, Akiva Goldsman, Sarah Schechter, Geoff Johns, Richard Hatem, and the team at Weed Road Pictures. For Doom Patrol, we celebrate showrunner Jeremy Carver and executive producers Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Geoff Johns, Chris Dingess and Tamara Becher-Wilkinson. For four seasons, fans have fallen in love with the Titans and Doom Patrol, investing in their trials and tribulations, and in their legendary battles saving the world time and time again.”
Warner Bros. has been currently busy axing projects left and right, but some are still moving forward even in the chaos that is “HBO Max” or whatever new name it might get at some point next year. Among the various shows still in production, Titans are currently releasing its fourth season and the Twitter account has released the first look at Teagan Croft as White Raven.
The show has been building up her development from Rachel Roth to embracing the light side of her powers, uncovering that there is more to her than the darkness that her father Trigon forced upon her. The design takes many cues from the iconic hood, which we saw in hoodie form in the earliest seasons but naturally with the white design and a new dress.
This isn’t the first time that Raven’s white form was adapted, as 2003’s Teen Titans also built up a lot of its show to the eventual confrontation with Trigon, which resulted in Raven becoming White Raven. Titans has long been under the shadow of the original animated series but there’s the question of how they will generally handle her character.
There’s also the question of what the future has in store for Titans. We don’t know if HBO Max shows will continue in their current form and that means there’s a good chance that some projects might not get another season. Who knows if Season 4 will be the final one for the project and if this might be their way of making use of the potential wrap-up of this series.
The next season of Titans looks quite promising, as the team is leaving Gotham behind and faces a new threat. Many were caught by surprise when they announced that Titus Welliver will take on the role of Lex Luthor in the next season, which opened up many new story possibilities for the HBO Max series. With a release planned for November, the DC TV show used the opportunity to show off and tease what the future has in store for the team at New York Comic-Con. There, they may have given away a little hint at a future appearance with the prop sets being showcased at its booth.
Among the many little teases of what the future has in store for the Titans series. Our very own John Sabato got a chance to visit the booth and noticed a rather interesting little set prop from the upcoming fourth season, the glasses of Clark Kent. So far, the only main Justice League member that made an appearance was Iain Glen taking on the role of Batman. Now, it seems that Clark Kent’s glasses will be sued in the fourth season, which means there’s a chance that Superman could make an appearance.
The inclusion of Superman would make sense given Lex Luthor’s role in this season. Plus, we finally get to spend some time with Connor, who is a clone of him and Lex. We haven’t gotten a chance to explore how he would react to his existence or generally what it means to have another Kryptonian in his life. Lex’s role could also add some tension between these two as Connor tries to find his own place in this world beyond just being a member of the Titans.
Warner Bros. Discovery is going through a bit of a transitional period as of right now with many projects up in the air for now. Many were wondering if this would also affect shows like Titans, Stargirl and Doom Patrol following the plug being pulled on quite a few projects. Luckily, it seems they aren’t done with these series yet.
With recent news that the fourth season of Titans would premiere in November, Stargirl actress Brec Bassinger teased that she could be making her way to the blue-filtered world. In the past few weeks, we have seen a few rumors hint at a crossover between Geoff Johns‘ series, Titans, Stargirl, and Doom Patrol, which would all come together as a culmination of the past few years. it seems Brec has all but confirmed that.
Below you’ll see a recently shared photo of Bassinger suited up as Stargirl alongside Ryan Potter as Beast Boy, who if you look close enough can see he looks to be wearing an all-new suit and finally shed that dreaded jacket.
Details on this crossover still remain under wraps and it’s unknown just how the Titans cross paths with the citizens of Blue Valley. Seems like the Titans could meet their universe’s version of Courtney, as they head back to San Francisco considering the two shows were confirmed to be taking place on different earths within the new DC Multiverse, which was created following the events of the CW’s Crisis on Infinite Earths event.
It remains unknown just who from the Titans and Doom Patrol cast will appear and just where this crossover will even happen. Both Titans and Doom Patrol season 4 have wrapped filming with Titans set to debut sometime in November.
While the fate of HBO Max has already been sealed, it looks to be business as usual for now with the return of Titans on the horizon. The comic book series will return with its fourth season on the streamer later this year. Entertainment Weekly has the first details on the Titans’ return as well as some exciting casting news that could give us a hint into who could be a major player this season.
Entertainment Weekly has revealed that actor Titus Welliver will make his debut as Lex Luthor this season after being teased for quite some time now. Showrunner Greg Walker dished on Welliver’s arrival, revealing the actor to be a massive comic book fan, especially of George Perez and Marv Wolfman’s beloved run on the Teen Titans.
“You usually have to do this whole dog-and-pony show to get an actor to do the show, But when I called to kind of lure him in, I could barely get a word in. We were talking on the phone and he was just walking through his library, telling me about all his Wolfman/Perez Titans editions. He’s a giant, giant fan. He’d watched every episode of the show, and could tell me about certain stories, certain shots. It was the most unexpected call I’ve ever had.

Luthor is sure to add an interesting dynamic to the team as the Titans make their way back to Titans tower in San Francisco. While talking to EW, Walker also teased just what makes this Lex tick, and what sets him apart from any other foe the team has come to face.
“He has a very sensitive, thoughtful approach to evil and power. You know what he’s done, what he’s capable of doing, except like many of those people, he’s personable. He doesn’t have a cat on his lap. Yeah. He’s curious, which I think is very interesting about his character. He wants to know about people and what makes them tick, and how they’re different from him. He sees the world through the lens both of his own power and his own inadequacy, and tries to compensate for both.”
Greg Walker
One of Conner’s most defining character traits in the history of his character would be his dual nature, being of human and Kryptonian biology, the character has never known where he fits. Luthor’s arrival really pushes the spotlight on Conner, finally making him come face to face with the person who is responsible for his existence and has him face the truth.
“We’re really going deeper in all these characters and shaking them up, What shakes Conner up is an identity story. He’s explored his Superman self, but he has not really explored his Lex self. What does that mean when you do? What happens when you give that self the keys to the car? Does it start driving the wrong way at rush hour 100 miles an hour?”
Greg Walker
Although no specific date has been announced just yet, Entertainment Weekly has confirmed that the fourth season will indeed premiere in sometime in November.
Warner Bros. Discovery is taking a great big axe at everything DC, which has made many wonder what exactly they can expect from the future of this franchise. Batgirl‘s sudden cancelation and the bizarre situation surrounding The Flash have created quite the rift in the franchise’s future. There are also various other shows in some form of production with Doom Patrol, Harley Quinn, Titans, and many more on HBO Max. In a new report by Variety, it does seem that a little glimpse is given in regards to the future of these projects.
First off, and scarily so, it seems that the popular and wildly out there series Doom Patrol is on the chopping block alongside fellow DC Universe series Titans. They have renewed not too long ago and it does seem like the next seasons are likely to release, but anything beyond that remains a mystery for now. Luckily, Harley Quinn is so popular that it’s safe but no word on its Kite Man-focused spinoff. #
Constantine and Madame Xanadu, the two projects of J.J. Abrams prolonged Justice League Dark franchise, are also seemingly still in some form of development. Though whoever is set to spearhead the DC Studio could change that rather fast. For now, we’ll have to see if any of these projects may still see the light of day or if internal reshuffling in the near future could change any plans moving forward.
When it comes to the DC Extended Universe, it would be fair to say it is in a bit of a predicament. Since the merger, Discovery is looking to revisit the DC slate in hopes of crafting a unified DCEU within one universe, akin to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While most of DC’s previously announced films look to be relatively safe, with the exception of Wonder Twins, the same can’t be said for DC’s television shows. With that in mind, we look at the current state of DC TV and try to guess how the merger will impact the remaining series.
The Arrowverse
When it comes to the Arrowverse, what shows remain are far from safe, especially as the CW was recently revealed to never have been profitable. The chances of many of the beloved superhero shows surviving are even more limited if the CW does go up for sale.
The CW has already said goodbye to series like Arrow, Supergirl, Black Lightning and will now say farewell to Legends of Tomorrow and Batwoman. This leaves only Superman and Lois, Stargirl, Naomi and The Flash, which already looks to be reaching the finish line with its upcoming ninth season.
Superman and Lois, Stargirl, and Naomi are series that do not find themselves very involved with the overall universe unlike the rest of the Arrowverse. While Stargirl has yet to be renewed for a fourth season ahead of Season 3’s debut, Superman and Lois is already set to return for a third season. This, of course, could result in the series potentially ending after Season 3, or it could meet a similar fate to Wonder Twins and be axed before things get moving on production. The upcoming debut of the Justice Society in the DCEU could also spell bad news for Stargirl, whose whole thing is the JSA, and with the strange rules surrounding the use of certain characters in other mediums, the series could meet its end. Naomi is another detached series that could continue onward, but is currently airing its first season and has yet to score a renewal for season 2.
Many will notice that over the past few years, the CW has attempted to get multiple new Arrowverse series like Green Arrow and The Canaries, Painkiller, and Wonder Girl off the ground but to no avail. Gotham Knights is the only one that’s actually been able to film a pilot that was not a spinoff from another pre-existing show, but even that has yet to even secure a series order. Justice U, the David Ramsey-led series that would see him reprise the role of Jon Diggle and train new superheroes has also yet to film a pilot, which means it could also see the chopping block.
HBO Max
HBO Max has become the adoptive home of multiple DCTV series like Doom Patrol, Titans, and Harley Quinn. While a show like Green Lantern could very much still happen, especially as casting has been announced, shows like Strange Adventures and Superhero High appear to be dead in the water. We’ve heard nothing on either of them since they were announced, which seems to suggest they’ll be meeting the chopping block.
The harder question here is the fate of Doom Patrol and Titans. Both series have been running for multiple seasons now and feel like they could come to an end very soon. With Warner Brothers Discovery looking to consolidate and unify its DC Universe, these shows definitely feel like they could indeed be canceled as casualties of war.
Projects that will most likely be safe are those pertaining to Justice League Dark and what Matt Reeves has in the works like The Penguin. Shows like Constantine and Madame X are products of a deal between J.J. Abrams production company and Warner Bros Discovery, they feel like safe bets due to the fact they could contribute to the unified DC the new leadership wants and that they all lead into a big Defenders-like crossover event.
Peacemaker will most likely be fine, as it seems highly unlikely that the series will be canceled following its success and how great James Gunn has been for the DC brand since releasing The Suicide Squad. While a series like Michael B. Jordans‘ Val-Zod series seems likely to be canned as it would take place in another universe and just does not seem like it would be a priority for the new leadership moving forward. And animated series like Young Justice and Harley Quinn will most likely remain unaffected due to these series being a completely separate entity from the other live-action series.
The TV side of things feels like it is going to see much more of a shakeup as the overhaul moves forward at DC Entertainment and Warner Bros Discovery. The new leadership would be smart to evaluate each project and look for the aspects that work and see if they can’t integrate some of these characters into their prime universe.
We just ran the first real set photo we got from the cast of DC’s Titans, which revealed that the upcoming season is very likely adapting the iconic White Raven storyline from the animated Teen Titans series and comic books with a twist. It looks like that isn’t the only element they are carrying over from the animated adaptation, as a new set photo offers our first look at the HBO Max show’s version of Jinx.
In one of the set photos, we can see actress Lisa Ambalavanar with a familiar hairstyle for those that followed the Cartoon Network animated series. With purple hair and some black stripes, they clearly took inspiration from the Teen Titans when bringing the character to life in the HBO Max series if the set photo provided by @seansmovies (as shared by @DCTBMidias) is anything to go by.
It certainly looks like they took inspiration from the animated design, but similar to what they did with Raven, they didn’t change her skin tone. We don’t know yet how they might adapt her abilities, as the animated show gave it a special purple spark to let people know she’s used the ability. So, here’s hoping the first trailer gives us a first look.
It looks like the upcoming fourth season of DC’s Titans will feature an iconic transformation for Teagan Croft‘s Raven. Fans of the original animated Teen Titans series might remember that when Raven confronted her father Trigon, she would embrace her purest energy to take on the representation of evil. This transformation led to the costume turning white. Well, it seems that the upcoming season of the HBO Max series will do something similar but this time around her hair will change.
It’s certainly a surprising reveal, but a new set photo from @seansmovies (as shared by @DCTBMidias) offers a look at a few of the actors of Titans. In it, we can clearly see Croft with a very different hairstyle. It’s gone completely white which would hint at her potentially going through a similar storyline in the upcoming season.
It’s a curious direction to take, especially as we already had a Trigon-focused storyline in the first season. Either they might build upon it, or her abilities are pushed to their limits in a new way. Brother Blood has been cast for the upcoming season and is likely its main villain. So, perhaps he is someone who worships Trigon and is trying to find a way to unleash him on the world. We’ll see if the trailer gives us our first look on what may end up being the cause for her transformation.
