New Report Reveals Marvel Studios Post-Secret Wars Streaming Slate

As the calendar rolls over to 2026, Marvel Studios prepares to begin production on the final projects of its Multiverse Saga. Both Season 3 of Daredevil: Born Again and Avengers: Secret Wars are expected to kick off principal photography in either the late first quarter or early second quarter of the year, ahead of their 2027 releases. That leaves a lot of time in the second half of the year for the studio to get to work on whatever it is they’re going to call the next saga and while that might be unclear at present, the first several projects of it are far more defined.

What I can say is, it’s just inherently interesting and complex material. The core idea of what X-Men is involves complexity.

    –X-Men director Jake Schreier

Though it’s reportedly undergoing a rewrite, Marvel has already begun working on X-Men, according to director Jake Schreier. Casting for the youth-focused reboot was reportedly set to get underway in late 2025 and the film is expected to be one of the four Marvel Studios projects to hit theaters in 2028.

Black Panther 3 is also on track for a 2028 release and a sequel to The Fantastic Four: First Steps will likely land there as well. In addition,Ā Thor,Ā Doctor StrangeĀ andĀ Shang-ChiĀ sequels could be on the docket in 2028 and beyond, as well as the studio’s long-awaitedĀ BladeĀ reboot or theĀ Midnight SonsĀ ensemble film orĀ Ryan ReynoldsĀ X-Men team-up film.Ā As ordered as the theatrical side of the slate seems to be, streaming appears a bit more chaotic.

Outside of a potential fourth season of Daredevil: Born Again and third seasons of X-Men ’97 and Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, Marvel Television’s post-Secret Wars slate is pretty undefined. However, a new report might provide a potential outline for what’s to come over the next several years.

According to Daniel Richtman, Marvel Television is developing a Jessica Jones project and its long-developing Champions project alongside the recently revived Strange Academy for the new saga. Additionally, a Ghost Rider project is said to be underway, though Richtman didn’t indicate which branch of the studio would be working on it.

In the case of Ghost Rider, rumors have ranged from the studio having lined upĀ The Walking DeadĀ starĀ Norman ReedusĀ to portray Johnny Blaze toĀ Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.Ā actorĀ Gabriel LunaĀ jumping to the MCU to reprise the role of Robbie Reyes toĀ Nicholas CageĀ making a cameo appearance as the character inĀ Deadpool & Wolverine. To date, of course, there’s been nary a Ghost Rider to be found but that may change soon if Marvel’s head of streaming, television and animation,Ā Brad Winderbaum, gets his way. ā€œI would wanna do the Danny Ketch era of Ghost Rider,ā€ revealed Winderbaum in 2024 interview. ā€œI think there are a lot of people who would be here for some Ghost Rider.ā€

There’s a lot of stuff that I’ve felt there was room to explore, and Brad and I talked about it and I am not going to say any of it, because we’re going to be doing it.

    -Krysten Ritter

After appearing at NYCC 2025, Jessica Jones star Krysten Ritter revealed that she and Marvel Television top dog had been discussing the potential for Jones-centric projects, which Winderbaum teased may be ā€œcoming sooner than you think.ā€

With Strange Academy reportedly now looking for a new writer and the studio locked in on the core cast of Champions, which was at one point being developed by Shrinking writer Rachna Fruchbom, those projects do indeed seem to be good bets to hit D+ between 2028 and 2032, which is currently how far out Kevin Feige claims to have planned the new saga.

  • Details from Marvel’s Scrapped Avengers Film Reveal One New Team Was Set to Play a Key Role

Details from Marvel’s Scrapped Avengers Film Reveal One New Team Was Set to Play a Key Role

In February 2023, Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania writer Jeff Loveness described Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, as ā€œthe biggest movie in the world.ā€ However, whatever ā€œbig, sweepingā€ ideas Loveness had for Avengers: The Kang Dynasty were thought to be lost to time as he was replaced as the film’s writer by Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness writer Michael Waldron in November 2023. By July 2024, original director Destin Daniel Cretton had also left the project and was replaced by Anthony and Joe Russo, who brought along old pal Stephen McFeely to work on the script for what became Avengers: Doomsday.

One early rumor about Lovenessā€˜ plans for the film indicated that it would include multiple teams of heroes, something that was all but confirmed when concept art from Marvel Studios Senior Concept/Visual Development Mushk Rizvi was discovered online in early 2025. While there’s always plenty of space between concept and execution, we now know one ā€œbig ideaā€ Loveness had for one particular team whose presence in the film was revealed by the concept leaked art.

In a Reddit Q&A, Waldron pulled back the curtain on plans he and Loveness had for the Young Avengers before Avengers: The Kang Dynasty was scrapped in favor of Avengers: Doomsday.

Jeff Loveness and I spent an afternoon pitching on the Young Avengers defeating a version of Kang and being so stoked about it…only to discover that that particular Kang carried a little card that said to Be Patient with him, it was his first day as a Kang. And then they were so bummed. I think he was gonna be the lizard Kang from the end of Kang Dynasty? I don’t know. Anyway we had fun.

    -Michael Waldron, Reddit Q&A, October 28, 2025

Given the response to the defeat of Jonathan Majorsā€˜ Kang the Conqueror in Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania, it seems unlikely such a scene, even if treated as a joke, would have landed well with the grumbly segment of the Marvel ā€œfan base.ā€ However, it is entirely in line with the sensibilities of Loveness and Waldron and also at least partially consistent with one of the Young Avengers first collective missions in the comics.

  • Marvel Studios Reportedly Meeting with Emmy-Winning Scribe About Major Phase 7 Project

Marvel Studios Reportedly Meeting with Emmy-Winning Scribe About Major Phase 7 Project

As Marvel Studios looks to carry momentum from a strong 2024 into a new year loaded with highly-anticipated theatrical and streaming projects, moves are already being made behind the scenes to keep the MCU running strong beyond Avengers: Secret Wars. While Kevin Feige recently made it clear that ā€œthe X-Men are an important part of that future,ā€ they certainly won’t be the only team making waves following the conclusion of the Multiverse Saga.

It’s hard to believe the Fantastic Four won’t return in some capacity in the studio’s new saga and there will always be room for more stories involving different iterations Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. Another team that the studio has been building toward over the course of several projects, the Young Avengers, seems closer than ever to making its MCU debut with another of its key components on the board following Billy Maximoff’s resurrection in Agatha All Along. Now a new report indicates that the studio may be ready to move forward on the project in earnest.

According to reliable Marvel Insider Daniel Richtman, Marvel Studios has been in contact with Fargo and Legion writer Noah Hawley. Among ā€œseveral projectsā€ on the table for the Emmy Award-winning writer to tackle is the highly-anticipated Young Avengers that was recently teased by Marvel Parliament member Brad Winderbaum.

Though the studio has never officially announced the development of a Young Avengers project, they’ve continued to populate the MCU with characters from its comic book roster over the years and teased the team in a stinger attached to 2023’s The Marvels. Iman Vellaniā€˜s Kamala Khan and Hailee Steinfeldā€˜s Kate Bishop, who were featured in the stinger, would certainly be two of the team’s central figures and could be joined by a number of characters including America Chavez, Billy Kaplan, Cassie Lang, Elijah Bradley and even Tommy Maximoff/Shepherd, who debuted briefly in Agatha All Along.

  • Producer Stephen Broussard Teases Marvel Studios Next-Gen Team-Ups

Producer Stephen Broussard Teases Marvel Studios Next-Gen Team-Ups

Marvel Studios’ Phase 4 introduced audiences to more than a dozen new heroes, many of whom are (or on track to become) legacy heroes in the MCU. Kate Bishop and Yelena Belova have stepped into their respective roles as Hawkeye and Black Widow and Riri Williams is primed to become the MCU’s new Armored Avenger. Marvel Studios’ latest project, Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania, will see another legacy hero added to that list as Cassie Lang, who has long hoped to be a superhero like her Dad, will finally suit up.

There’s definitely a pattern forming and while it doesn’t only include young legacy characters (Sam Wilson has taken on the mantle of Captain America, there’s a new Hulk in Jen Walters and Jane Foster served as Thor for a spell), they certainly seem to be at the forefront. According to Quantumania producer Stephen Broussard, Cassie’s emergence as a hero is something inherent in the DNA of the Ant-Man franchise and not necessarily connected to the larger plan. ā€œI think it’s very germane to the Ant-Man film because it’s a generational film,ā€ said Broussard. ā€œThe Ant-Man mantle gets passed down from Hank to Scott and now essentially to Cassie, who’s almost more of like the new Ant-Man, even though she doesn’t go by such, more so than the new Wasp.ā€

Still, fans of the comics can see a pattern within the pattern of the young heroes being added to the MCU. Now that Cassie has assumed her mANTle as a hero, she joins Kate Bishop, America Chavez and Elijah Bradley as members of the comic book team known as the Young Avengers who have made their way into projects in the Multiverse Saga. WandaVision introduced and took away Billy and Tommy Maximoff, but with Joe Locke set to bring Billy Kaplan into the mix in Agatha: Coven of Chaos, it seems likely that Tommy Shepherd won’t be far behind. Should Teddy Altman and the Kang Variant Iron Lad make their way into upcoming projects, all the original Young Avengers (and then some) would be present and waiting for their team-up.

While Broussard denies that a Young Avengers project is in the works, he does admit that a pattern is emerging. ā€œBut a lot of Phase Four was about introducing the next generation and introducing new characters,ā€ said Broussard. And if the Young Avengers are all hanging out in the MCU, wouldn’t it make sense for them to team-up? Broussard agrees it would be a good idea and teases it’s probably on the table. ā€œI think that’s one of the themes that the next generation reminds us,ā€ Broussard said of the idea of these heroes finding each other and working together, adding ā€œand that would be exciting to explore with Cassie going forward, or with any of the new characters, like Kate Bishop. People like that, who have inherited the mantle, and keeping to fight the fight, and make the world a better place.ā€

In summary, Broussard said that yes, they wanted to introduce the Young Avengers in the Multiverse Saga and that yes, they’d like to see them all team up but no, there’s no Young Avengers project in the works. We hear you loud and clear, Stephen.

  • New Rumor Supports Joe Locke’s Casting as Wiccan in ‘Agatha: Coven of Chaos’

New Rumor Supports Joe Locke’s Casting as Wiccan in ‘Agatha: Coven of Chaos’

Marvel Studios WandaVision spinoff, Agatha: Coven of Chaos, is preparing for the early 2023 start of principal photography and the cast is seemingly growing by the day. One of the major additions to the Kathryn Hahn-led streamer was Heartstopper actor Joe Locke, who was cast as an unnamed gay, lead character for the 9-episode series. Locke’s casting came shortly after a report indicated that Agatha: Coven of Chaos looked to be set to introduce Billy Kaplan to the MCU, but a prevailing alternate theory as the actor playing Agatha’s son, Nicholas Scratch. Now, a new rumor seems to add fuel to the Wiccan fire.

According to one YouTube channel, Locke’s role in the upcoming series is indeed that of Billy Kaplan/Wiccan. Of course, given everything that is known about the character(and the fact that Locke is a near-perfect match for the character’s physical appearance in the comics), Wiccan is the most obvious choice. Though Hahn’s character is the lead in Agatha: Coven of Chaos, the title would lead one to believe that the series will be dealing with the fallout of Wanda Maximoff’s time as the Scarlet Witch and her use of Chaos Magic. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness may also have given some hints as to the pending arrival of Wiccan as a representation of him was seen etched into the walls of Mount Wundagore.

In the comics, Billy Kaplan is the son of a Jewish couple living in New York who is ultimately revealed to be the ā€œreborn soulā€ of Billy Maximoff. Kaplan, who becomes a founding member of the Young Avengers. Destined to become the all-powerful Demiurge, Billy often found himself the target of schemes by other magic-wielders, including Loki, who sought his power for themselves. Given Agatha has lived by siphoning the power from others for so long, it would stand to reason that if she were somehow able to break free from Wanda’s spell, perhaps with the assistance of a group of other witches, she might take a keen interest in someone like Billy Kaplan.

Marvel Studios has had no official comment on Locke’s role. Hahn and Locke have recently been joined in the series by Aubrey Plaza, Ali Ahn and Maria Dizzia, whose role as a witch in the series has been misreported. Principal photography is expected to kick off in January and wrap in May and the series is currently on the schedule for a late-2023/early-2024 release on Disney Plus.

  • Kevin Feige Teases Marvel Studios ‘Young Avengers’

Kevin Feige Teases Marvel Studios ‘Young Avengers’

Marvel Studios Phase 4 has seen the introduction of Billy and Tommy Maximoff, Elijah Bradley, Kate Bishop and America Chavez. Those characters join Cassie Lang as members of the comic book team knowns as the Young Avengers who are currently making their respective ways through the MCU. With fans now familiar with the members of the core team, it seems just a matter of time before they find themselves assembling and avenging. At last night’s premiere of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Marvel Studios One-Above-All Kevin Feige was asked what he could say about the potential future for the Young Avengers.

I think people pick up what we’re putting down, sometimes, and we take our cues from the comics. And yes, introducing as many characters as we can from the comics is what I’ve spent the last 22 years doing and those are among the many that we’ve introduced.

    Kevin Feige

It’s no secret that Marvel Studios was looking to develop a Young Avengers project not too long ago. As the Multiverse Saga goes on, it’s not clear if that project will be part of Phase 6, which now looks to begin in 2025 with Fantastic Four, or if their first team-up might take place in another live-action project. But given Feige’s response, it feels like fans should feel good about the chances of seeing them together sooner rather than later.

  • A Young Avengers Heat Map: Power Ranking Existing MCU Characters’ Chances of Making the Cut

A Young Avengers Heat Map: Power Ranking Existing MCU Characters’ Chances of Making the Cut

If the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Phase 1 was about building to The Avengers, Phase 4 has been about, among other things, introducing the next generation of heroes. All the Disney Plus series (sans What If…?) and a number of the films in this phase have featured, or will feature, at least one younger character who could pick up a superhero mantle in the near future. And most expect that to culminate in a Young Avengers project. So with Ms. Marvel due to make her MCU debut in her eponymous series this week, let’s check in with the younger heroes we’ve met so far, and figure out who we think will be part of that initial lineup.

    Kamala Khan (Ms. Marvel)

Debut: Ms. Marvel, June 8, 2022
Where We’ll See Her Next: The Marvels, July 23, 2023

    The Case For/Against:

With strong reviews already pouring in for the show and its star Iman Vellani, Kamala Khan is poised to be even more of a breakout character in 2022 than she’s been in previous years, where she’s been featured in countless animated series, as well as the Avengers video game. Her brand is already closely associated with the Avengers, and as a youthful character, Kamala could easily be put at the forefront of branding the Young Avengers as the next big thing in the MCU.

On the other hand, her next appearance being in The Marvels alongside another new hero in Monica Rambeau and an established hero in Carol Danvers might mean that Marvel is interested in establishing that team as a viable brand, especially if A-Force and The Ultimates — two team brands closely associated with Captain Marvel — aren’t being considered as viable options. And if Marvel plans to do subsequent seasons of Ms. Marvel, setting her apart from the other youthful heroes keeps the ā€œhero worshipā€ dynamic going a little bit longer before she steps into an eventual leader role on a team of her own, which hems more closely to her arc in the comics.

    Conclusion: ⚔⚔⚔

    America Chavez

Debut/Where We Saw Her Last: Doctor Strange In the Multiverse of Madness, May 6, 2022
Where We’ll See Her Next: TBD

    The Case For/Against:

At 16, Xochitl Gomez fits firmly in the age demographic for teen superheroes, and is a charismatic, likable screen presence that Marvel will want to feature more. America Chavez has also been associated with the Young Avengers team in the comics. To the extent that there are questions about where her story in the Doctor Strange sequel landed, putting her in a team setting alongside other young heroes could afford her the room to grow, without the pressure of having to carry a project. There aren’t really any downsides here.

    Conclusion: 🌠🌠🌠🌠🌠

    Tommy Maximoff (Speed)

    Debut: WandaVision, May 2021
Where We Saw Him Last: Doctor Strange In the Multiverse of Madness, May 6, 2022
Where We’ll See Him Next: TBD

    The Case For/Against:

The 10-year-old Julian Hilliard has already been prominently featured in two high-profile Marvel projects, and audiences have responded favorably to him. Speed is definitely the less prominent of the two sons of the Scarlet Witch, so whether they ultimately decide to recast him in order to age him up, or let him age in real time as the youngest Young Avenger remains to be seen, but the positive response to his character does bode well for more appearances, and the Young Avengers is the most logical place for him.

On the other hand, the end of Multiverse of Madness could also be read as the end of the arc for Wanda, and Marvel may want to move on from the characters for a few years, in order to let her storyline land more impactfully, before doing whatever magical shenanigans would be necessary to reintroduce him and his brother to MCU-616. Even still, it feels more likely than not that the shenanigans are already afoot, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he and his brother are back by Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.

    Conclusion: šŸ‘ŸšŸ‘ŸšŸ‘ŸšŸ‘Ÿ

    Billy Maximoff (Wiccan)

    Debut: WandaVision, May 2021
Where We Saw Him Last: Doctor Strange In the Multiverse of Madness, May 6, 2022
Where We’ll See Him Next: TBD

    The Case For/Against:

Jett Klyne, at 12, is slightly older than the actor who plays his brother, and based on recent red carpet pictures, he appears to be on the verge of adolescence in terms of appearance, which would put him right in the Young Avengers wheelhouse if they skew younger. Wiccan is definitely the more well-known and popular of the two twins, so his return feels inevitable, and Young Avengers (where a future romance with Teddy ā€œHulklingā€ Altman would be in the cards) seems highly likely, notwithstanding the concerns raised above about the conclusion of Wanda’s arc, and his character’s role in it.

    Conclusion: šŸŖ„šŸŖ„šŸŖ„šŸŖ„šŸŖ„

    Kate Bishop (Hawkeye)

Debut/Where We Saw Her Last: Hawkeye, December 2021
Where We’ll See Her Next: TBD

    The Case For/Against:

Kate Bishop is probably the character most closely associated with the Young Avengers, and Hailee Steinfeld is a bona fide star who definitely scored rave reviews in Hawkeye. She’s perfectly positioned as a talented but green superhero with a lot to learn, and in need of mentoring. That feels like a Young Avengers slam dunk.

On the other hand, the character is 22, and Hailee is 25. As most likely a college graduate by the time we see her next, she definitely could be a lot removed from the teen angst and high school problems of her younger teammates (if they don’t age Billy and Tommy up). Maybe the right story for her is a young hero who mentors younger heroes while she herself is mentored. Or, as suggested earlier, maybe Billy and Tommy are aged up to be closer to her. But regardless of the challenges in circling that square, Kate still seems like a lock.

    Conclusion: šŸŽÆšŸŽÆšŸŽÆšŸŽÆšŸŽÆ

    Yelena Belova

Debut: Black Widow, July 9, 2021
Where We Saw Her Last: Hawkeye, December 2021
Where We’ll See Her Next: TBD

    The Case For/Against:

Yelena is only being included here because she was introduced as Natasha Romanoff’s little sister in Black Widow, and Florence Pugh plays her character with such youthful exuberance. However, Yelena is almost 30, based on the MCU timeline, and it seems highly unlikely that there will be thirtysomethings mingling with teenagers on this team.

    Conclusion: āš”ļø

    Kid Loki

Debut/Where We Saw Him Last: Loki, June 2021
Where We’ll See Him Next: TBD

    The Case For/Against:

Kid Loki played a role in the Young Avengers comic run, and audiences generally do love Loki. The trickster nature of the character makes it fairly easy to drop him into the narrative as a bit of a wildcard within the team dynamic, as he could drive the story as both ally or antagonist.

On the other hand, Jack Veal, who played the character in Loki, wasn’t particularly well-received, and because he’s hardly necessary to the narrative, it’s easy to imagine him being left out of both the short and long term plans for bringing the Young Avengers team together.

    Conclusion:🐊🐊

    Joaquin Torres (Falcon)

Debut/Where We Saw Him Last: The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, March 2021
Where We’ll See Him Next: TBD

    The Case For/Against:

Danny Ramirez is tremendously likable, as anyone who saw Top Gun: Maverick can attest, so who wouldn’t want to see him take to the skies again, especially since his character inherited Sam Wilson’s Redwing gear? That bit of foreshadowing has to pay off, right?

On the other hand, despite his baby face, Ramirez will be turning 30 this year, and that takes him way out of the age bracket. Plus, Captain America 4 affords Marvel a much more streamlined path to picking up on that narrative thread, as New Cap might be looking for a New Falcon before it’s all said and done.

    Conclusion: šŸ¦…

    Eli Bradley (Patriot)

Debut/Where We Saw Him Last: The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, March 2021
Where We’ll See Him Next: TBD

    The Case For/Against:

On one hand, Elijah Bradley is a founding member of the Young Avengers in the comics, and it would definitely feel like a slight if he wasn’t there. After the emotional storyline the writers of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier gave Isaiah Bradley in that series, it would be nice for his grandson to get the opportunity to carry on his legacy and be prominently featured as part of the Young Avengers. And at 23, Elijah Richardson (the actor who plays him) would be able to match youthful energy with a Young Avengers team that skews more to college age.

But on the other hand, while the other Young Avengers in the comics have developed independent fan followings, Bradley has seen Marvel move past him to another character, Rashaun Lucas, wearing the Patriot colors, confusing the marketplace and raising questions about the extent to which Marvel brass has prioritized the character. Add in the fact that in America Chavez, the Young Avengers will have a star-spangled character they are definitely more interested in pushing, and it becomes more of a 50-50 proposition as to whether he will find himself firmly established as a Young Avengers mainstay, or have his story told in Captain America 4 alongside Sam WIlson.

    Conclusion: šŸ‡ŗšŸ‡²šŸ‡ŗšŸ‡²šŸ‡ŗšŸ‡²

    Cassie Lang (Stature/Stinger)

    Debut: Ant-Man, June 29, 2015
Where We Saw Her Last: Avengers: Endgame, April 26, 2019
Where We’ll See Her Next: Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania

    The Case For/Against:

This character has been in the MCU longer than any of the others, notwithstanding the recent recasting that put a new actress, Kathryn Newton, into the role. And it’s unlikely that they’d recast if they didn’t have big plans for her. Fans have had a while to get invested in her story, and were she to develop powers like her comics counterpart, that would be the culmination of a story eight years in the making (assuming we see those powers in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania). And Cassie Lang is a founding member of the Young Avengers who has never been associated with any other team. Everything is pointing to Cassie on the squad.

    Conclusion: 🧚🧚🧚🧚🧚

    Riri Williams (Ironheart)

Debuts: Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, November 11, 2022
Where We’ll See Her Next: Ironheart

    The Case For/Against:

Ironheart might be the trickiest character of all to call. Her comics version doesn’t really have a lot of established history with the Young Avengers, whose ā€œIronā€ character is Nathaniel Richards, a young Kang variant who has not yet gone down that path. But Riri’s comics version also doesn’t have much of a connection with Wakanda either, despite the fact that she’ll be debuting in the Black Panther sequel. Dominique Thorne is 23, so we can assume the character will be slightly older than her comics counterpart was, but a college-aged Riri is still in the right age bracket for an older skewing Young Avengers team. Plus, she’d be able to fill the tech genius void that the team would be lacking if she wasn’t included. Plus, since we’re already in uncharted territory with the character, who’s to say that Riri couldn’t turn out to be a Kang variant herself, in keeping with the ā€œIron Ladā€ role of the comics’ Young Avengers? It’s certainly not a perfect fit, but it could work.

    Conclusion: šŸ’™šŸ’™šŸ’™šŸ’™

After going through the possible candidates, the most plausible team dynamic would be a team that’s mostly composed of twentysomethings, with America Chavez as the ā€œlittle sisterā€ of the group who is mature beyond her years due to her life of traveling the Multiverse. In this scenario, it makes sense to age up Billy and Tommy to be peers of Kate, Cassie, Riri, and maybe Elijah. As for whether it makes sense for Kamala to join this mix right off the bat, there are arguments for and arguments against, but ultimately it hinges on how fast Marvel wants to get her out of high school. So much of her grounding in the teenage experience goes away in that scenario, but on the other hand, her going off to college puts her at a similar level of life experience as the other candidates — Young Avengers, but not too young. And I think that’s the vibe Marvel might be going for.

  • How Changes to America Chavez in ‘Doctor Strange 2’ Set Up Young Avengers

How Changes to America Chavez in ‘Doctor Strange 2’ Set Up Young Avengers

Between the Illuminati, Mount Wundagore, and Clea taking Doctor Strange into the Dark Dimension in the mid-credits scene, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness certainly left plenty of room for several more stories to continue. Another obvious example was the film’s introduction of Xochitl Gomez’s America Chavez, the dimension-hopping young heroine at the center of the movie’s plot.

As many know, America is an iconic Young Avenger in Marvel comics, so her presence definitely teases that concept. But while Multiverse of Madness generally kept her comic’s origin story intact, it appeared to make a major change that could impact the young hero’s journey going forward. It also left the character in a place that could hint at how the MCU might build a Young Avengers team.

    Marvel Studios
    America Chavez’s Origin

We only get a brief glimpse of America’s past early in Multiverse of Madness, but we know that she appears to come from an alternative universe or dimension. She does not specify further, but we also learn that she apparently has no variants. In an infinite multiverse, that would not make sense. It is likely that the place America is from in the MCU is outside of the multiverse, which would follow the comics.

    Young Avengers #3 (2013)

Though it has since been retconned, America’s origin story began in the Utopian Parallel, which is a dimension outside of time and the multiverse and is inhabited only by women. Her powers come from the residual powers of a being called the Demiurge, who created the Utopian Parallel. In the comics, the dimension is threatened with destruction via black holes, but America’s mothers sacrificed themselves and essentially disintegrated into particles stretched across the multiverse. After this, America travels the multiverse looking to be a hero, because she believes the Utopian Parallel does not need salvation.

    Young Avengers #3 (2013)

In the Doctor Strange sequel, America accidentally transports her moms into some random universes when she unintentionally used her powers as a child. While America is convinced they are dead, Doctor Strange reminds her that they could likely be out there somewhere. If her mothers are not dead, that could open up an entire storyline for America to go find them. Teases like this almost never amount to anything, so it is curious whether the heroine would get some solo time to explore that arc or if it could be something that ties into an eventual Young Avengers story.

    America’s Magical Ending

The end of Multiverse of Madness sees America at Kamar-Taj, working on sorcery skills in a way reminiscent of Stephen Strange in the original Doctor Strange movie. Her main challenge in the film seemed to be controlling her existing portal-creating powers, so the tease that she may be on the path of a sorcerer is very interesting.

On one hand, it potentially sets up a mentor-mentee relationship between Doctor Strange and America Chavez similar to Clint Barton and Kate Bishop in Hawkeye. While this does not necessarily have any comics backing, it could be the MCU’s way to gradually bring in and develop the young characters in organic ways in other projects before jumping into a team event.

    Young Avengers #9 (2013)

The fact that America now has some connection to magic could also hint at how other Young Avengers may be brought into the fold. On one hand, Wanda Maximoff’s son Billy later becomes the superhero Wiccan in the comics. Wiccan also becomes the same Demiurge that creates the Utopian Parallel, so Multiverse of Madness potentially connects America and Billy in several ways. With the Loki Disney+ franchise still going, there is also potential for Kid Loki to become a significant character in the MCU. Kid Loki, of course, has powers connected to magic as well, but he was also the character that brought America and Billy together in the first place. That arc ultimately saw the formation of the Young Avengers.

America’s connection to sorcery may make a future team-up of young heroes easier, considering she would already exist in spaces characters like Bully Maximoff and Kid Loki might. In addition, her potential relationship with Doctor Strange may allow her to stick around in various other projects before Marvel Studios is ready to take the leap into a true Young Avengers project.

Fans can see America Chavez in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which is now playing in theaters.

‘Doctor Strange 2’s Xochitl Gomez on a Potential Young Avengers Spinoff

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is about to be unleashed into theaters and will introduce the world to Xochitl Gomezā€˜s America Chavez. The famous member of the Young Avengers has the ability to punch her way through the multiverse, which makes it the perfect jumping-off point for the character. Of course, as many of their latest ventures introduced some younger heroes, it seems almost inevitable that we’ll meet the young team of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.

It seems that Gomez is of the same opinion, as in an interview with ComicBook.com, she also discussed her hopes of having the team form in the future, especially highlighting Kate Bishop and Kid Loki, who was a curious addition as a Vriant in the Disney+ Loki series. She’s certainly on board for this team to form in a future project.

Of course Kate Bishop and I think Loki because I want to see how that can pan out.

    Xochitl Gomez

Young Avengers is seemingly the end goal with many story beats hinting at their formation. While it’s unclear if we’ll even see another classic Avengers film anytime soon, it does look like they want to have this next generation of heroes become an integral part of the franchise. For now, we can still only speculate, especially with when they might fast-track this project, but it’s great to see the new cast members excited for its potential.

Exploring When the Next Young Avengers Members May Appear in the MCU

The trailer has finally arrived for Hawkeye. It introduces the world to Hailee Steinfeldā€˜s Kate Bishop. Not only an important character in the role of Clint Barton and the Avengers but a very prominent member of the Young Avengers. We’ve noticed a variety of young heroes popping out throughout the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s fourth phase and it seems like we might get a Young Avengers adaptation at some point. Yet, there are still three prominent members that haven’t made their debut yet. So, it’s time to explore when we can expect the missing members of the team.

    Miss America

    Who Is Marvel's America Chavez?

Now, this is a rather easy one to pinpoint, as we got the confirmation that Xochitl Gomez will play America Chavez in next year’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. We still have no idea what direction they are taking with the character, but her presence in a multiversal story stays true to her comic origins. She was raised by her mothers in a dimension known as the Utopian Parallel. After a great tragedy, she ends up traveling from one reality to another before embracing her heroic nature.

It’s still unsure how she fits into the story. There might be a connection between how she ends up working alongside Strange and the rumored appearance of Shuma-Gorath. We also have Wanda’s unknown role on top of it all. Perhaps her home dimension is the key to ending the madness that rages across the multiverse. At the end of the story, she may end up in the mainline dimension and meets up with some of the already introduced members, as they potentially face a new challenge ahead.

    Hulkling

Who Are the Young Avengers: HULKLING

So, here’ the first of the three Young Avengers that wasn’t hinted at in any capacity. Theodore Altman is half-Kree and half-Skrull. He was born as the love child of Mar-Vell and the Skrull princess Anelle, who had a brief affair. As a result, he was raised on Earth due to the fear of what her kind would do to him knowing he is a half-breed. Growing up, he learns fast of his shapeshifting abilities and ended up drafted by Vision in the Avengers Fail-Safe Program a.k.a. the Young Avengers.

His Skrull and Kree background makes him eligible for two specific projects. Either we’ll get introduced to the character in the Disney+ Secret Invasions series or the Captain Marvel sequel, The Marvels. We got introduced to a gender-flipped version of Mar-Vell that was protecting refugees from the Skrull race. There wasn’t any hint of her having potentially brought a child to the world, but there’s a curious gap in history that has yet to get explored before her death at the hands of Yon-Rogg.

    Iron Lad

Could LOKI's Kang Reveal Hint at a Future Young Avenger? - Nerdist

Unlike the previous characters, there’s a strange absence of Iron Lad. We did get introduced to his multiversal parallels, The One Who Remains and Kang the Conqueror. In the comics, a young Nathaniel Richards is abducted by an older version of himself. Terrified of the vision that shows the monster he would become, he swears to avoid his fate and arms his body with a bio-metal suit. As his name implies, the teenage hero is inspired by Iron Man’s iconic design. So, it would make sense that he’d potentially appear in Armor Wars. Yet, the Marvel Cinematic Universe might curiously twist his origin story.

There’s a chance we might not even see Iron Lad in the MCU but rather have another character take his place. Marvel Studios is working on an Ironheart series eyeing a production start next year. The only thing she and Iron Lad have in common lies in their inspiration. They both end up building high-tech armors inspired by Tony Stark that could even surpass his work. As we learn that Kang is strongly connected to time and the multiverse, she may take his role in the original story as she faces the fact of what her existence would create. Of course, they could also still introduce Richards as a fellow MIT student. Still, her prominent role in the MCU’s future might create an interesting twist on the original.
