  • First Look at ‘The Mandalorian’ Second Season

First Look at ‘The Mandalorian’ Second Season

The Mandalorian was the show that kicked-off Disney+ last year. It was a worldwide hit even though most countries didn’t have access to the streaming service until much later. The Star Wars series was their first foray into live-action long-term storytelling. It paid off, as the world was in love with Baby Yoda. The show even earned 15 Emmy nominations. So, the only question on everyone’s mind was when we could expect the second season. Everything was being delayed, so some worried this show would also be affected. Almost a week ago, our worries were undone as the second season was announced to release at the end of October 30th. Now, Entertainment Weekly also offered some first pictures teasing what we can expect from the upcoming season.

As you can see, the main cast is all back. Gina Carano, Carl Weathers, and Giancarlo Esposito are all returning to reprise their roles to join Pedro Pascal‘s Mandalorian. We still don#t know how exactly the story will unfold but it is safe to assume that Esposito‘s Moff Gideon is on the hunt for the Child. So far, no new cast members have been confirmed and it seems they are keeping this close to the chest. We might finally get some kind of reveal when the first trailer is released. With these official shots from the film, it is likely we might get our first trailer in the coming weeks.

Jon Favreau also confirmed in an interview that this season will open up the world around Mando. It will be less isolated but they still want each episode to bring something different to the table. He also points out that this season might not just focus on the titular character but branch out similar to Game of Thrones. Moff Gideon would certainly be an intriguing character to explore, as we find out how he got his hands on the infamous Dark Saber. The actor did confirm he will get to use it throughout the season. Favreau also confirmed that they worked remotely and adapted tot the current environment to ensure everyone’s safety. Long-time Star Wars writer and director Dave Filoni had the perfect quote for their approach to this season.

You want The Empire Strikes Back to be better than A New Hope.

  • ‘Xbox Series S’ Officially Revealed After Leak

‘Xbox Series S’ Officially Revealed After Leak

It’s amazing that anything can be kept a secret nowadays. For quite some time now, the rumored Xbox Series S seemed to be all but confirmed. A cheaper and lighter version of the next-gen console had been teased for some time. The only thing we were waiting for was an official announcement by Microsoft. All we knew was its name and that was the extent of it. Suddenly, a YouTuber by Brad Sams revealed the console in all its glory. Not just that, he also stated that it would cost $299. The only uncertainty was if it would support a disc-drive similar to how PlayStation offered a purely digital version. Many wondered if this was real, or if it was just another fake mock-up. Well, let’s just say Xbox’s first reaction towards this leak was rather fitting.

Yeah, in a hilarious turn similar to Avengers: Age of Ultron “Damn Hydra!” tweet back in the day, Xbox fully acknowledged the leaks. It wasn’t until an hour later that they finally revealed the console in an official tweet with our first look at what we can expect from the next-gen console.

It’s very obvious this wasn’t planned to be unveiled until their upcoming Xbox Showcase event. There is also a video making the rounds that confirms this console will be digital-only. It promises many of the functions that will define the next generation like faster loading times. The 512 GB storage is rather disappointing given that most next-gen games look to be around 100 GB in size. It also is interesting how the design seems to pay tribute to the last generation while Series X is closer to the original. The price is also great at around $299. This is the first price that was ever revealed for a next-gen console. This means we will also get the price for Xbox Series X in the event. It also means that PlayStation 5 will most likely get its price confirmed in the near future.

  • ‘The Venture Bros.’ Won’t Return for Eight Season After All

‘The Venture Bros.’ Won’t Return for Eight Season After All

The Venture Bros. was Adult Swim’s longest-running original series. It only ran for seven seasons but aired from 2004 up to 2018. The show felt like someone took Johnny Quest and added some elements from Harvey Birdman: Attorney at Law. It was a hilarious show with some surprising dramatic moments. The show was a staple of the Adult Swim block. As far as we knew, the show was renewed for an eight-season but had gone quiet since. Then suddenly, illustrator Ken Plume sent out a cryptic tweet that alluded to the show potentially having been canceled. Now, the show’s creator, Jackson Publick, took to Twitter to confirm that the show would not return for its eight-season.

    https://twitter.com/jacksonpublick/status/1303102212193705985

It is hard to believe that The Venture Bros. has been canceled after all these years. The show was an amazing blend of comedy and drama that made way for other adult-comedy shows, like Rick and Morty or Archer. It certainly won’t be the same knowing that the show won’t return to continue the story of Dr. Venture, Brock Samson, Hank, and Dean Venture. This show was my own introduction to Patrick Warburton as a voice actor. These adventures were one of the first shows I watched on Adult Swim alongside the previously-mentioned Harvey Birdman. Adult Swim will not be the same without the endless wait for the next season. Maybe there is a chance to end the show with a movie special, or another network will pick it up. Still, as of now, the show has officially been canceled. Here’s a big thank you to Jackson Publick and his team for giving us this amazing run and cannot wait to see what other projects they might tackle in the future.

  • ‘Shazam! Fury of the Gods’ Eyeing Q1 2021 Production Start

‘Shazam! Fury of the Gods’ Eyeing Q1 2021 Production Start

Unlike most superhero films, the Shazam franchise has to stick to a much stricter schedule. Its cast of main characters is very young. Every year they don’t film, they will age quite rapidly. It doesn’t make director David F. Sandberg‘s job any easier. Especially the current pandemic made this issue even more apparent. So far, we only know the title of the sequel Shazam! Fury of the Gods. There was no mention of when they would start filming and how far along the script was. Luckily, actor Zachary Levi offered an update during an interview on Dan Fogler‘s 4D Xperience.

They announced that we were gonna do a sequel pretty much right after we premiered. They knew we were tracking well enough, they were happy enough with the numbers. So they have been steadily and earnestly working on the script for the sequel and I think Q1 of next year is the idea.

The film is slated for November 4th, 2022. So, starting filming early next year makes sense. It gives them enough time to also take delays or reshoots into account. Shazam! is also effects-heavy, so it will give them time to get them perfect. He does also confirm that anything can change given the current situation. With the 2022 release, we also don’t know if they will jump directly into filming the third installment. It hasn’t been renewed yet but it would make sense not to waste any time. Levi did point out that this sequel was a priority for the studio, so the third Shazam! film might already be on their radar.

  • Major ‘Sonic the Hedgehog’ Announcements Confirmed for 2021’s 30th Anniversary

Major ‘Sonic the Hedgehog’ Announcements Confirmed for 2021’s 30th Anniversary

Sonic the Hedgehog is a rather interesting series to follow. It has quite a cult following even as the quality of its games has varied between titles. Sonic Mania was a personal highlight that returned to the series’ Genesis days. Playing a modern rendition of the original trilogy was quite the thrill. Sadly, Sonic Forces didn’t continue the trend. It ended up feeling rushed and aimless. Many were hoping that the next entry would correct the trajectory the 3D games were heading towards. There has been no news regarding a sequel to either game that was released back in 2017.

Sega did confirm back in May that they have been hit by a delay due to the pandemic. In a stream, the PR team did confirm that they were originally going to reveal it during South by Southwest. Of course, the event got canceled and we never got any official announcement. It looks like we got our first sign of life of the Blue Blur. Next year is Sonic’s 30th anniversary. To build up some interesting for licensing deals, Sega published a spread in the European licensing magazine, LSB Europe.

Looking at these numbers, Sonic the Hedgehog truly is quite the powerhouse franchise. It is also interesting to see the Sonic the Hedgehog film included, which got its Box Office run interrupted due to the pandemic. What we are focusing on is the 30th Anniversary confirmation. It includes the reveal that new games will be announced in 2021 alongside a major announcement. It’s quite interesting that they confirm multiple game announcements. Sonic Mania is a shoo-in for a sequel given its popularity. I would love to see the franchise return to the Sonic Adventure era. They may announce the games now so that they will be released during the franchise’s anniversary. The thing that stands out is the major announcement confirmed for next year. They might have some remakes or remasters planned for older games. Super Mario is similarly celebrating its 35th anniversary. Maybe I am just really hoping for a remaster of Sonic Adventure 2 Battle, which was my childhood classic.

  • ‘Marvel’s Avengers’ Tops UK Physical Sales Charts

‘Marvel’s Avengers’ Tops UK Physical Sales Charts

Marvel and Square-Enix are testing out a new market. Their recent release of Marvel’s Avengers is a service game. After their success with the single-player Spider-Man, they aim to expand this new entry as time goes on. The Avengers is a team of constantly changing members so it makes sense on paper. Naturally, these games are surrounded by quite a lot of controversy. It is certainly no stranger to it. No matter where one stands on it, the investment seems to be paying off for Marvel.

Avengers has topped the UK physical sales charts. This does not take any digital sales into account. Those will be interesting as they’ve seen a massive increase over the year. To put it into perspective, it sold slightly more than Crystal Dynamic’s last game, Shadow of the Tomb Raider. For another comparison, it had sold less than a third when compared to Spider-Man. Keep in mind that these games have a very different audience and selling point. The web-crawler is also quite the merchandising juggernaut. As such, these are mainly comparisons from a sales perspective.

Avengers focuses on long-term investments. At the time, Spider-Man was the fastest-selling game in the UK. That is not an easy act to follow, especially as this console generation is nearing its end. These elements can have an influence on the reduced sale when compared. It’s closest comparison point would be BioWare’s Anthem. It was considered a disappointment with less than six million sales in its release year. We will see if Marvel’s latest foray into gaming will be able to prove as a lucrative investment. Of course, it also depends on Crystal Dynamics. If they fix the current major bugs and keep it updated, the game could stick in the charts for some time. There is also a good chance will see an extra push once Spider-Man is added to the game next year.

  • ‘Avengers’ Journal: Reassemble, or Disassemble?

    ‘Avengers’ Journal: Reassemble, or Disassemble?

It has been quite the journey so far. The release of Marvel’s Avengers has been an interesting one to say the least. Funny to think that my first article on Murphy’s Multiverse was on the Beta. At the time, it was a good summary of my first impression. Since then, I’ve finally gotten my hands on the final game. Finally, I get to play through the single-player campaign. That also means I also get to share my experience on the first major story of the game with you. As the game is set to continuously update, I hope to keep covering the game’s development. That inspired me to not just call this a review but my Avengers Journal. So, without further ado, let’s jump into the first main story, Reassemble.

    A-Day of Beginnings

A-Day has been the focus of most of Avengers marketing. As such, most players probably are sick of hearing about it. Still, some of the cutest moments are hidden in this opening sequence. We start the game as a young Kamala Khan attending the iconic event. You get to wander around gathering comics while playing mini-games. She even gets to meet the various members of the team with hints at their dynamic. It’s a very heartfelt moment and a well-done sequence. Was surprised how many details were hidden throughout. Kamala is quite awkward at times. It makes sense that the young fangirl is still learning. Her emotional anchor is her father, who knows the importance of free ice cream. I’ll be honest, the biggest highlight of this story is the relationship between Kamala and her father.

    marvels-avengers-a-day-e1560259828455

After catastrophe unfolds, we skip to five years later. Kamala stumbles upon footage of what led to the explosion. It paints the events in a very different light. A.I.M. has become obsessed with “curing” Inhumans. Once her hacking gets uncovered, they start hunting her down in a well-done sneaking section. She is confronted by a mutating George Tarleton and Monica Rappaccini. Both survivors of the events and leaders of A.I.M. Not giving in to their offers, she runs off. In her travels, she finds the Helicarrier Chimera, where she snaps Bruce Banner out of a year-long Hulk journey. This unlikely meeting leads them on the path tor reassemble the Avengers one by one.

    A Story to Remember

Before I jump into major spoiler territory, I have to praise the writing for this game. I expected a fun romp with my favorite Avengers. Yet, this story goes that extra mile. Making Kamala the main focus was a great idea to ground the story. She is the one meeting her heroes, something any of us can sympathize with. It plays on the “never meet your heroes” narrative and lets her become the emotional anchor for a team that grew apart. As she is Inhuman, she also has a personal stake in A.I.M.’s mission. Kamala is the glue that keeps everything together. Her stake in the story also rounds out the other Avengers.

    zECM3PTDmLBAf6eS97kxNm-1200-80

Of course, this is not just about Kamala. The entire team fell apart when Captain America died during A-Day. Banner gave up and let Hulk take over for over a year. Suddenly, a young ambitious hero wants nothing more than to help those in need. Sandra Saad and Troy Baker give some amazing performances throughout the game. This story would fit in with the best the Marvel Cinematic Universe has offered. Also, this version of M.O.D.O.K. is a true highlight. They not only make the giant-headed scientist feel threatening but also sympathetic. Usman Ally gives a haunting performance that makes a once joke character stand out.

    A Game Left Unpolished

The game does have quite a few issues though. I have faced a few lagging issues during cutscenes. The closer I got to the end, the worse they got. You will also notice sequences where they invested more time into the animation than others. I do wish the character-specific missions got a bit more attention, as they mostly consist of radio dialogue. Yes, the marketplace is way too expensive but the story gives you quite a lot of cool skins to play with. My biggest concern is the bugs still plaguing the game. I tried to switch Hulk’s skin and he just turned invisible. It is especially odd when story moments start only for the mission select menu still being on screen. The game has quite a few rough edges that are hard to ignore. However, I will commend Crystal Dynamics for being very active. You can access their Discord server to give them feedback. They are even reacting to posts on Reddit. This team does seem to care about the game and I believe that if they stick to it, they will fix these issues in no time.

    28162007_2160507_f59ff92244abcba41125a269e9b548ee_wm

Some people have voiced their concerns with Nolan North‘s Tony Stark. Yes, he is quite quippy even more so than other adaptations. I do agree that his in-mission banter can get old pretty fast. Yet, I enjoyed his performance out of the suit. He has a small arc throughout the story that leads to a great emotional moment. I will say though, there is one character that gets sidelined. Somehow, they had trouble fitting in Thor. He gets one mission but isn’t quite relevant to the overarching story. Overall, the game needs some polish. Even with its rough edges, I am having a blast. If they stick to it, maybe reduce the ridiculous prices in the market place and expand upon this foundation, we could have an amazing experience for years to come. It all depends on Crystal Dynamics keeping their word.

Alright, we’re jumping into the rest of the story. Here’s your mandatory spoiler warning. I will talk about the major story moments and the ending. Only continue at your own risk.

    A Quest to Assemble

Shortly afterward, we get a hilarious sequence of Tony putting together a make-shift suit. It eases you into the controls for the iconic character while also showing Tony thinking on his feet. I loved the idea that he didn’t instantly get his iconic suit back. We see him create a makeshift one that is at the edge of breaking during his first solo mission. Sadly, this short flying section is the only mission of its kind. I did wish they upped his flying speed a bit here to make it a bit more fast-paced but it was a great change of pace. His recruitment also means we can fix the Chimera and get it airborne again. Former S.H.I.E.L.D. agents and Hank Pym’s Inhuman resistance join you in your effort, while you do some missions for them.

    marvel-s-avengers-hank-1174591-1280x0

Kamala gets confronted by Dante, who comic fans might recognize as Inferno from the comics or Marvel Rising, she rushes to infiltrate a highly guarded Inhuman prison. As she tries to embiggen beyond her limits, she is captured and is confronted by our main villains once again. Throughout the game, we see George turn into M.O.D.O.K. due to some formula that is injected into him by Monika. We see the first confrontations between them. Luckily, Tiny Dancer turns out to be Black Widow who infiltrated A.I.M. since A-Day to uncover what happened that day. It was strange that Kamala got more stealth sections than the game’s spy. This mission ends in a showdown with Monica, who ends up getting captured.

    A Short-Lived Victory

Finally, the Avengers had some kind of victory. Sadly, it didn’t last long before George attacked the Chimera mid-flight. Thor joins the fight and keeps the Helicarrier from crashing into downtown Manhattan. Even as they lost quite a bit on the way, they still had proof that Tarleton was behind the reactor explosion on A-Day. Yet, the decyphered video reveals that it was Captain America that caused it. It ends up in an extremely well-done dramatic moment as Bruce and Tony end up fighting and destroying what is left of the Helicarrier. It was only a bit bizarre that suddenly everyone just vanished before ending the next mission. She luckily realizes that they are hiding something in space, which leads to probably my favorite segment in the game.

    iron-man-720x405_6xhy

The space station reveals that Captain America is alive. He was put on ice by Monica. His blood was used as the healing serum on Tarleton that transformed him into M.O.D.O.K. This was the final straw. In his rage, he ends up using it on Monica and seemingly killing her. He then starts his plan to erase Inhumans with Terrigen gas. In a final showdown, every Avenger has to use their unique abilities to take him down. Yet, he has one last trick up his sleeve. He brings a Kree sentry from beneath the ocean. It was the reason that the Terrigen was acting up during A-Day. Kamala’s arc finally reaches it’s climax, as she embiggens to have a one-on-one fight. Finally, the Avengers are united, and M.O.D.O.K. is defeated. After the credits, Monica is revealed to still be alive. The sentry wasn’t quite done yet either, as it sends a beacon into space.

    A Future to Behold

What sells the story is that it was planned throughout. If you play close attention, some early plot points become relevant later on. Especially the post-credit reveal of Monica was teased throughout the game. Kamala’s arc is a fantastic coming-of-age story while also giving us a unique look at what it means to be an Avenger. There are some amazing performances and I hope that with each new Avenger, they will also offer unique missions for the original six. As the Avengers Initiative starts with Kate Bishop, be sure to keep an eye out for future articles and journal entries on how the game unfolds.

  • RUMOR: ‘Ms. Marvel’ Eyeing Jasjit Williams and Saager Shaikh for Key Supporting Roles

RUMOR: ‘Ms. Marvel’ Eyeing Jasjit Williams and Saager Shaikh for Key Supporting Roles

Just recently, we got the rumor that Marvel Studios’ upcoming Ms. Marvel series has found some directors. The Direct revealed that they signed Bad Boys For Life‘s Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah to direct at least one episode. Marvel Studios is still playing coy with any information for upcoming shows, as it is still difficult to predict how the pandemic will affect releases and productions. Still, looks like that wasn’t all that The Direct had uncovered from behind-the-scenes of the production. They now also claim that two actors are being eyed for importing supporting roles.

Keep in mind that they can’t confirm any of the actor’s potential roles. We are also still waiting for some kind of announcement on who might end up playing the titular hero, Kamala Khan. So, keep this with a grain of salt and just speculation. The Direct is pointing out that actor Jasjit Williams may be playing Bruno Carrelli. He is a friend of Kamala in the comics, who is a potential love interest. Saagar Shaikh is rumored to be Aamir Khan, Kamala’s older brother.

It would make sense that casting is underway, as the production is eyeing a production start by November. Delays are still a potential issue but, hopefully, we find out more about the cast once we near November. Ms. Marvel is a great addition to the franchise and cannot wait to see how they will approach her story. We still don’t know if they will embrace her identity as an Inhuman. If they do, it will be interesting how they introduce them. It will be interesting to see how they will differ from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and the Inhumans series.

  • RUMOR: ‘Bad Boys For Life’ Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah to Direct ‘Ms. Marvel’ Episodes

RUMOR: ‘Bad Boys For Life’ Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah to Direct ‘Ms. Marvel’ Episodes

We’ve all been waiting for some news regarding Marvel Studios’ upcoming Ms. Marvel show. The character has been seeing a surge in popularity lately. She was among the core cast of Marvel Rising and is the main focus of Marvel’s Avengers’ Reassemble storyline. All that is missing is her live-action debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. When Kevin Feige announced the show last year, we couldn’t wait to see how she will fit into Marvel Studios’ ever-expanding world.

Hollywood Reporter did confirm that Brisha K. Ali would act as showrunner for the show last year. Now, The Direct is reporting that Bad Boys For Life directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah will direct at least one episode for the upcoming show. Both directors have confirmed that they’ve met with both Marvel and DC for some potential projects not too long ago. So, there is a good chance this may be officially confirmed once casting has been finalized. Until then, we can only see this as a potential rumor for now.

Marvel news has been rather scarce. As most projects have been delayed indefinitely, it is uncertain when we could expect some official word from Marvel Studios. We are still waiting for the first foray into Disney+, as WandaVision or Falcon and the Winter Soldier are still on hold for now. Hopefully, we will get some signs of life soon. If productions are to start soon again, we hopefully will also find out who will play the iconic teenage Muslim superhero. Marvel Studios’ foray into streaming might be their most ambitious project yet and cannot wait to see what they have planned for us.

  • ‘Titans’ Alan Ritchson Cast as Titular Lead in Amazon’s ‘Jack Reacher’

‘Titans’ Alan Ritchson Cast as Titular Lead in Amazon’s ‘Jack Reacher’

Looks like that rumored Hawk and Dove spin-off won’t be happening after all. Titans star Alan Ritchson has officially been cast as the titular character of Amazon’s Jack Reacher series. It is currently set to be written by Prison Break‘s Nick Santora, who will also serve as showrunner. Author of the original books Lee Child will serve as executive Producer alongside Christopher McQuarrieDon GrangerScott Sullivan, and Marcy Ross. Surprisingly, we haven’t heard much of this series since it started development around a year ago. Amazon Studios Jennifer Salke teased the potential the show has for Amazon’s streaming slate.

Lee Child’s Jack Reacher book series is a global phenomenon with one of entertainment’s most well-known heroes, and a perfect fit for Amazon Studios’ slate of bold, character-driven series.

This isn’t the first time we’ve seen the iconic novel character adapted. Tom Cruise played the titular character back in 2012. Now Executive Producer Christopher McQuarrie directed the original film before tackling the Mission Impossible films. At the time, there was quite a bit of controversy as Cruise physically was a far departure of the character’s description in the novel. Ritchson is closer to Reacher’s height so there might be less controversy over his casting. He is a great choice for the lead role. He was a standout among Titans large casts of characters. His performance as Raphael in 2014’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was also one of the most memorable aspects of the latest film adaptation. Cannot wait to see what he brings as the lead in this series.
