  • Netflix to Launch Immersive ‘Squid Game’ Experience This Fall

Netflix to Launch Immersive ‘Squid Game’ Experience This Fall

Netflix is launching an immersive Squid Game’s experience for fans of the hit series. The immersive experience will see players – 2 to 6 people at a time – navigating games from the series, including both Red Light Green Light and Marbles, two of the show’s most iconic games. The games will take place in game boxes developed by Immersive Gamebox and will utilize touch screen and motion sensor technology to heighten the experience. The immersive experience will kick off in New York City this September. Those interested in participating will need to be at least sixteen years old.

“People are constantly seeking new and different ways to remain invested in their favorite content,” said Immersive Gamebox CEO Will Dean in a statement to the press. “To reimagine Netflix’s most popular show in an entirely new format offers customers more ways to stay connected to Squid Game.”

While Immersive Gamebox has locations in Dallas, Chicago, Houston and Denver, the Squid Game experience is only confirmed for New York City as of now. Live experiences are great revenue for Netflix, while also allowing the streaming service to create experiences for fans in the real world much like Disney’s theme parks. Netflix also recently crafted experiences for both Stranger Things and Bridgerton, two of its most popular series, with the Stranger Things experience taking place in New York, London and San Francisco, while the Bridgerton experience allowed fans to experience the Queen’s Ball in Los Angeles, Atlanta and Chicago.

The decision to create an immersive game experience is sure to raise some concerns from fans, especially after it was recently announced that Netflix was developing a spinoff reality series. The reality series, Squid Game: The Challenge, will see contestants compete for $45 million and is expected to cast 456 players, much like in the show.

The first season of Squid Game is now streaming on Netflix, while Season 2 is currently in development.

  • David Krumholtz Set to Return as Bernard in ‘The Santa Clauses’

David Krumholtz Set to Return as Bernard in ‘The Santa Clauses’

The Santa Clauses has a new cast member. Per Deadline, David Krumholtz is set to reprise his role as Bernard the Elf in the upcoming Disney+ series. Krumholtz portrayed Bernard the Elf in both the original 1994 film and later returned for the sequel in 2002. The character of Bernard the Elf is a grumpy but effective taskmaster who works in Santa’s workshop.

Krumholtz will reunited with former co-stars Tim Allen and Elizabeth Mitchell, who will reprise their roles as Scott Calvin/Santa and Carol Calvin/Mrs. Claus in the series. Also starring in the series are Elizabeth Allen-Dick as Sandra, Devin Bright as Noel, Austin Kane as Cal, Matilda Lawler as Betty, Rupali Redd as Grace and Kal Penn as Simon Choski.

The Santa Clauses will see Allen’s Scott realizing he cannot be Santa forever as he approaches his 65th birthday. As his Santa magic begins to fade, Scott sets out to find a new replacement Santa, all while readying his family for a brand-new adventure as they prepare for life South of the North Pole.

The Disney+ series hails from Jack Burditt (30 Rock, Modern Family) who will executive produce and serve as the showrunner. Allen is also stepping into an executive producer role on the project, alongside his former Last Man Standing boss, Kevin Hench. As of this writing, the series does not yet have a premiere date.

  • ‘Leauge of Super-Pets’ Circling the Top Spot at The Box Office

‘Leauge of Super-Pets’ Circling the Top Spot at The Box Office

DC’s League of Super-Pets looks ready to fly high at the box office this weekend. The animated flick is eyeing a $25 million-plus debut this weekend, which should be enough to take the top spot from Jordan Peele’s Nope.

While that’s far from a bang, that’s a decent enough start to earn first place at the domestic box office. Current projections have it opening between $25 million and $30 million when it opens across 4,300 theaters in North America. With a reported $90 million price tag, League of Super-Pets will need to stick the landing among families and comic book fans. Universal’s Minions: The Rise of Gru has shown family films are still big business despite the pandemic, with the film surpassing the $300 million domestic mark.

One thing working in the film’s favor is that it has the DC Comics branding attached to it. Being based on comics could help carry the film, at least through its opening weekend. However, the film being its own entity and not attached to a popular film franchise could also hurt it.

The film is directed by Jared Stern and features voice performances by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Kevin Hart, Diego Luna, Natasha Lyonne and Kate McKinnon as the pets of Justice League members. DC League of Super-Pets was written by Stern and John Whittington (The Lego Batman Movie). It flies into theaters this weekend.

‘The Gray Man’ Universe a Go at Netflix

Netflix is looking to build a franchise with The Gray Man. It was announced today that the streaming giant is developing not only a sequel to the film but also a spinoff title. The news comes courtesy of The Hollywood Reporter, with the outlet revealing Ryan Gosling will return to headline the sequel. Also returning for the sequel are directors Joe and Anthony Russo, who will produce through their AGBO banner once again. Details regarding the spin-off are sparse, however, Deadpool writers Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese are on board to pen the film; no director is attached to the project.

The Gray Man hit Netflix on July 22nd, following a limited theatrical run on July 15th. It is based on the best-selling book series by Mark Greaney, which currently consists of twelve books. The film adaptation stars Ryan Gosling as Six, a secret agent who is being tracked by Chris Evans’ sociopathic mercenary at the behest of a top government official hoping to hide his own wrongdoing.

“With so many amazing characters in the movie, we had always intended for the Gray Man to be part of an expanded universe, and we are thrilled that Netflix is announcing a sequel with Ryan,” the Russo brothers said in a statement to the press.

Scott Stuber, who serves as the head of global film for Netflix, noted the service’s desire to build out the film universe. “With The Gray Man, the Russos delivered an edge-of-your-seat spectacle that audiences around the world are loving. We’re excited to continue to partner with them and the team at AGBO as they build out The Gray Man universe.”

The Gray Man, which currently has a 48% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, is now streaming on Netflix. A release window for The Gray Man’s sequel has not yet been announced.

  • SDCC: Kevin Feige Teases Harry Styles’ Marvel Cinematic Universe Future

SDCC: Kevin Feige Teases Harry Styles’ Marvel Cinematic Universe Future

Over the course of Phase 4, Marvel Studios has taken to introducing new characters as part of its post credits scenes. One of the characters introduced was none other than Harry Styles‘ Eros at the end of Eternals. While the singer turned actor’s role as Eros was teased for a long time before Eternals hit theaters, his screentime was minimal. So, while talking to Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige following the studio’s Hall H presentation, MTV News had to ask if we can expect more of Styles as Eros.

“Yes, the adventures of Eros and Pip is something that is very exciting for us,” Feige responded. “You’re talking about Ghost Rider, we’ve got Blade, we’ve got Doctor Strange with the supernatural angles. We’ve got the street level with our announcement of Daredevil, and of course, Spidey going into the street-level heroes, and cosmic, and that’s where our friends Eros and Pip live.

Feige’s comments, of course, don’t specify when and where fans can expect to see Eros. He just states that they do have plans for Styles to return at Eros. With such a packed slate and no mention of the Eternals returning in Phase 5, we’ll have to wait and see what the studio has planned. After all, there are a slew of projects still to be announced for Phase 6.

Eternals is now streaming on Disney+.

  • SDCC: Tatiana Maslany Talks ‘She-Hulk’ and Daredevil Appearance

SDCC: Tatiana Maslany Talks ‘She-Hulk’ and Daredevil Appearance

Marvel Studios wowed fans on Saturday with a massive Hall H presentation teasing everything in the near-future, and everything yet to come. One of the titles briefly teased by Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige was She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, which stars Tatiana Maslany as Jennifer Walters, aka She-Hulk. The actress was also on hand to promote the Disney+ series and took some time to talk with the press following the panel.

For Maslany, who led Orphan Black for five seasons, signing on to She-Hulk wasn’t necessarily the easiest decision. As she told MTV News, she wasn’t exactly looking to get into any big titles. However, when she actually read the script, she realized how unique the project was. “For me, I’ve avoided doing big things because I’m afraid of that size of world. But when I read the pilot for the audition, I was like, this is so funny and so different than anything I’ve read, and like, if this weren’t Marvel, I would wanna do it. Do you know I want I mean? It was just the characters, and the writing was so weird and funny.”

Charlie Cox‘s Matt Murdock, aka Daredevil, had been teased to appear in She-Hulk for quite some time. However, yesterday’s trailer was the first confirmation fans received of his appearance. And like the fans, Maslany was just as excited to see his cameo in the trailer, despite knowing Cox would appear. “That was a really fun little bit,” the actress teased.

She-Hulk: Attorney at Law consists of nine half-hour episodes and will debut on Disney+ on August 17th. Like with other Disney+ shows, She-Hulk will release one episode a week.

  • SDCC: Feige Confirms the Russo Brothers Not Attached to Next ‘Avengers’ Films

SDCC: Feige Confirms the Russo Brothers Not Attached to Next ‘Avengers’ Films

Although Secret Wars was only confirmed during Marvel Studios’ Hall H presentation on Saturday, the project has been rumored to be in development for years now. It is a film that directing duo, Anthony and Joe Russo have described as their dream project, calling it an ambitious story that they adored growing up. Last year, a report circulated suggesting the Russo brothers were thought to be negotiating a return to Marvel Studios with many thinking it would be to helm a Secret Wars film down the line – especially following their handling of Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. That, however, does not look to be happening.

Following the huge Hall H presentation on Saturday, Kevin Feige briefly talked to Deadline about the Russo brothers and the next two Avengers films. Unfortunately, for those hoping to see the duo direct Secret Wars and/or Kang Dynasty, it doesn’t look as though it’ll be happening. Feige was asked about the possibility and went on to explain that, while Marvel Studios loves the Russo brothers and they love the studio, Anthony and Joe Russo are not attached to direct either Avengers title.

“They are not connected to it,” he said. “They have been, I think, very direct about that. I think they were… we love them, they love us, we wanna find something new together, um, but it’s not this.”

Feige’s words, of course, do suggest we will see the brothers return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, though. Just not for the next two Avengers films. With a slew of projects still to be announced for Phase 6, perhaps there’s something else they find themselves attached to soon enough. For now, we’ll just have to wait and see.

Avengers: Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars will hit theaters on May 5th, 2025 and November 7th, 2025, respectively.

  • UPDATED: Regé-Jean Page NOT in ‘Secret Invasion’

UPDATED: Regé-Jean Page NOT in ‘Secret Invasion’

UPDATED: Disney has since sent out a new press release stating Page is not in Secret Invasion.

Ever since appearing in the first season of Netflix’s hit series, Bridgerton, Regé-Jean Page has seen his star rise exponentially. Along with starring in the recently released The Gray Man, the actor is also set to appear in Dungeons & Dragons alongside Chris Pine. And now we also know he’ll soon be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

While the actor’s name was mentioned in a list of actors being eyed by Marvel Studios, Page was never actually rumored to be in any particular project. A press release sent by Disney following Marvel Studios’ Hall H presentation, however, has confirmed Page will appear in the Disney+ series, Secret Invasion. Details surrounding his character are unknown, but he’ll star alongside the previously announced Cobie Smulders, Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Mendelsohn, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Emilia Clarke and Olivia Colman.

Secret Invasion is described as a crossover event series that showcases a faction of shapeshifting Skrulls who have been infiltrating Earth for years.

Secret Invasion will hit Disney+ sometime in Spring 2023.

  • SDCC: Marvel Studios Unveils First Trailer for ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’

SDCC: Marvel Studios Unveils First Trailer for ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’

Marvel Studios has finally unveiled the first trailer for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

While filming on the sequel might’ve wrapped in March, the studio has been rather tight-lipped regarding the film. In fact, outside of casting news from the trades and a few leaked product images, not much has been known about Wakanda Forever. Thankfully, the studio has finally given fans an official first look at the highly-anticipated film.

Following the unfortunate passing of Black Panther actor Chadwick Boseman in 2020, many have questioned how Marvel Studios would approach the follow-up to the billion dollar first installment. It was expected that Letitia Wright‘s Shuri would take up the mantle of Black Panther, which looks to be the case by the trailer. While it remains unclear how Boseman’s T’Challa is written off, the film is expected to be in honor of the late actor.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever was directed by Ryan Coogler from a script he co-wrote with Joe Robert Cole. It stars Wright, Danai Gurira, Angela Bassett, Lupita Nyong’o, Winston Duke, Michaela Coel, and Tenoch Huerta. Dominique Thorne also makes her Marvel Cinematic Universe debut as Ironheart in the film. Wakanda Forever hits theaters on Nov. 11, 2022.

With She-Hulk: Attorney at Law set to debut on Disney+ in August, Marvel Studios has debuted a new trailer for the series. The trailer was unveiled during the studio’s presentation at Hall H at San Diego Comic-Con.

The new trailer, which can be seen below, should ease concerns fans had regarding the CGI in the show. She-Hulk‘s overall look is much cleaner than in the first trailer, and her comic’s accurate costume is on full display.

Joining Maslany in She-Hulk are Mark Ruffalo, who returns as Brace Banner/Hulk, Tim Roth as Emil Blonsky/Abomination, Ginger Gonzaga, Josh Segarra, Jon Bass and Renée Elise Goldsberry. Benedict Wong is also confirmed to reprise his role as Wong in the series.

She-Hulk‘s first season, which consists of 9 episodes, will premiere on Disney+ on August 17th. Like with the other shows, She-Hulk will follow a weekly release plan.
