Casting Chaos: Insider War Erupts Over Adam Driver’s ‘X-Men’ Role

Marvel Comics X-Men have had no shortage of formidable villains over the years…over the last few days, Adam Driver has been rumored to be portraying a trio of them.

Originally reported by Apocalyptic Horseman to be Marvel Studios choice to bring a new iteration of Magneto to the MCU, it’s now clear as mud who Driver might be playing. Following Apocalyptic Horseman’s retraction and correction about Driver’s role, which he claimed is actually Mister Sinister, Nexus Point News–the outlet formerly associated with the insider–published their own exclusive, asserting that Driver will be portraying William Stryker.

One of the X-Men’s most vile villains, Stryker appeared in the Fox films but, to nobody’s surprise, the character really didn’t share much in common with his comic book counterpart. Introduced in Chris Claremont‘s God Loves, Man Kills, Stryker was a mutant-hating religious fanatic who believed his divine calling was to rid the Earth of its mutant population. Backed by his paramilitary Purifiers, Stryker killed hundreds of mutants.

While Stryker isn’t quite as intriguing of a first film villain as Mister Sinister, he is one that would be elevated by Driver’s full-range of talents. He would also pair well with Tramell Tillman‘s William Metzger to create a solid anti-mutant foundation as the MCU gets its Mutant Saga off the ground.
