  • EXCLUSIVE: Yvette Nichole Brown on Bringing Her Character to Life in ‘Crossing Swords’ Season 2

EXCLUSIVE: Yvette Nichole Brown on Bringing Her Character to Life in ‘Crossing Swords’ Season 2

Crossing Swords has a ton of characters, who are all so different and unique in their very own ways. As such, the kingdom is full of oddballs, and we’re not just talking about the Royal family. one of these citizens is played by Yvette-Nichole Brown, who many are familiar with for her work on series like Community, Drake & Josh, or even her cameo in Avengers: Endgame. She also isn’t a stranger to voice roles either, and Crossing Swords might have the actress in her most vulgar performance yet. We had a chance to talk with Yvette Nichole Brown on the upcoming second season and got to ask her in what kind of headspace she is to bring such an outlandish character to life.

I mentally decided that she speaks like a Baptist preacher. So, she’s always, you know, just about to take you to the mountain top every time she speaks. The problem is: there’s no substance to what she’s saying. So, she’s giving it to ya, and she’s giving you the fire, but she’s talking about monkeys and craziness and pubic hairs, all kinds of stuff that you would never hear in a church or anywhere. So, I like the dichotomy of that, that she’s speaking with purpose about things that don’t matter. So, that’s how I found her.

    Yvette Nichole Brown

As a follow-up, we asked how Brown would like to see her character progress in the series, and gave the perfect answer for someone like Sgt. Meghan.

You know, I kinda love that she pops in when you least expect. […] I kinda feel like shes coming off of vacation. She just pops in, right? She’s always either about to go on vacation or coming back from vacation. So, she misses most of the shenanigans and she comes in right before crap is about to hit the fan and she tries “a little bit” to make it better. So, I think she’s in it about enough.

    Yvette Nichole Brown

Brown‘s presence in the show, while it may not be a huge role, is definitely a memorable one. She does perfectly summarizes how her character plays into the story and she’s always a blast once she enters the screen. Here’s hoping that in a possible third season we’ll get a lot more from Sgt. Meghan.

  • Live-Action ‘Megaman’ Movie Heading to Netflix

Live-Action ‘Megaman’ Movie Heading to Netflix

It looks like the production company Supermarché, spearheaded by directors Henry Joost and Ariel Schuman, has accidentally revealed that they are developing a live-action adaptation of the popular superhero Mega Man for Netflix The project originally was announced back in 2018 as part of 20th Century Fox’s upcoming line-up but never picked up development. The updated website seemingly confirms the project, going by the title MEGA MAN for now, has moved to Netflix.

Henry, Rel, and their in-house producer Orlee-Rose Strauss maintain an active development slate. Features in the works include: an adaptation of Capcom’s MEGA MAN for Chernin Entertainment and Netflix […].

IGN confirms that this is the same project and that the Capcom video game is only in very early development. So, we might not expect any development on the project anytime soon, but the update may be a hint that an official announcement was originally intended to go out at some point. It’ll be interesting to see how they tackle this project, especially with how they tackle some of the goofier designs from the game.

Of course, it might be smarter to adapt a different corner of the Mega Man franchise to make the storytelling aspects easier. The original franchise had barely any story outside of the rivalry between Dr. Light and Wily. The X series had a much more interesting approach by exploring a very different future 100 years after the original Mega Man was created. They could even take the Mega Man Battle Network series to use digital avatars with humans. There are quite a few options for the franchise moving forward.

  • ‘WandaVision’s Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany Nabs Golden Globe Nominations

‘WandaVision’s Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany Nabs Golden Globe Nominations

It looks like the Golden Globe nominations are in. It’s been a busy year for Marvel Studios, which has been garnering more critical acclaim with the release of its Disney+ series, WandaVision. It started off with the series garnering quite a few nominations at the Emmys before winning the first for the production company. The song “Agatha All Along” even got a nomination at the Grammys and the series got nominations for the Critic Choice Awards shortly after. Well, it seems that the series can now add the Golden Globes to the list.

The official nominations have dropped and Paul Bettany has been nominated for the category of Best Performance by an Actor in a Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television. He is joined by his co-star Elizabeth Olsen, who is nominated in the Best Performance by an Actress category. They are the only nominations for Marvel Studios at the upcoming event, but an additional nomination arrived for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings for Best Visual Effects.

Succession, Ted Lasso, and The Morning Show garnered the most nominations for the TV category. Squid Game has also garnered quite a bit of acclaim at this year’s Golden Globes and it’s great to see such a diverse type of show getting some critical acclaim for their work. We’ll see if WandaVision manages to also bring a Golden Globe home.

  • EXCLUSIVE: Tara Strong Hasn’t Heard Back Yet for ‘Loki’ Season 2

EXCLUSIVE: Tara Strong Hasn’t Heard Back Yet for ‘Loki’ Season 2

There are many voice actors out there that have made quite the name for themselves within the industry. Among them is Tara Strong, who may be one of the most popular voice actresses working today, with roles in series like Teen Titans, Ben 10, and Powerpuff Girls, she’s become an iconic and instantly recognizable voice. She recently made her MCU debut in Loki, one of Marvel Studios’ first ventures into Disney+. The voice actress took on the role of Miss Minutes, the official mascot of the Time Variance Authority. We recently had the chance to talk with Strong, and just had to ask about a possible return as Minutes in the upcoming second season of Loki.

Oh, I hope so. You know, Kate Herron, who directed it, said she would like to do like a feature based on her [Miss Minutes] on Twitter, and im like: “Oh, I’m in for that!”. I haven’t been notified yet but I certainly hope so and the fans seem to have embraced her and fallen in love with her. So, I feel pretty good about that and I would definitely come back and reprise that role if asked.

    Tara Strong

It would certainly be a welcome surprise to see Strong return in the second season of Loki, and with what seems to be an entirely new TVA, it seems likely Miss Minutes is a definite return. For those looking to see a bit more of Tara Strong’s work, the first and second seasons of Crossing Swords are currently streaming on Hulu.

  • Chloé Zhao Shares How Eastern Philosophy Inspired ‘Eternals’

Chloé Zhao Shares How Eastern Philosophy Inspired ‘Eternals’

Eternals is quite a different take on the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Not only are we introduced to a curious cosmic addition in the form of the titular race, but also learn the role of Celestials. Director Chloé Zhao has brought together a new vision of how these larger-than-life beings existed among us since the dawn of man. Given her Chinese heritage, it’s not too surprising that some Eastern influences found their way into the project, as the director shares in an interview with Variety. One of the influences was how her characters are inspired by the Chinese philosophy of yin and yang, as she highlights:

All the characters in ‘Eternals’ are trying to find the harmony between the masculine and the feminine sides of them, the ‘yin’ and the ‘yang,’ and only when they find the balance do they become whole.

    Chloé Zhao

She highlights that it’s also in how she approached the story in how we understand “evil” or the role of “demons” within mythology.

Unlike the classic Western representations of demons, the demons in Eastern religions are often powerful ancient spirits of nature. Instead of exterminating them, we should acknowledge and appease them. There is no such thing as absolute evil. Only energies that have to be redirected with understanding and compassion.

    Chloé Zhao

It does highlight how the story technically doesn’t have a definite villain. While Kro technically had a more antagonistic role in the story, he mainly was focused on survival and evolution. Even the Celestial Arishem the Judge technically is their creator, the selfish vision of their kind to ending the existence of millions

  • EXCLUSIVE: Davis Guggenheim Directing a ‘Drunk History’-Inspired Michael J. Fox Documentary

EXCLUSIVE: Davis Guggenheim Directing a ‘Drunk History’-Inspired Michael J. Fox Documentary

Michael J. Fox has built quite the legacy in Hollywood. Many fondly remember his work on projects like Family Ties, Back to the Future, Spin City, and many more. He recently even appeared in series like The Good Wife and had his own series title The Michael J. Fox Show. It hasn’t been easy for the actor since he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease. He became a strong advocate and his foundation has helped fund research into the disease since 2000. Such a history is worth telling, and we can exclusively share that director Davis Guggenheim is going to adapt a project based on the retired actor’s life.

It won’t be your everyday documentary, as the director is adding a new spin. Instead of recreating his life or simply retelling it through archival footage, the project will be inspired by Drunk History. As such, various actors will dramatize different times in the actor’s life. The inspirations of the previously mentioned show lie in how some scenes will be without dialog under narration and lip-sync. It’s currently eyeing a production start in February of 2022.

The casting process is currently underway and it’s a promising concept to take a different approach with a documentary on someone’s life. Guggenheim has worked on projects ranging from An Inconvenient Truth, Inside Bill’s Brain: Decoding Bill Gates, to Waiting for “Superman”. He also has quite a bit of experience in television, such as NYPD Blue, ER, Alias, and Deadwood. It’ll be interesting to see how this project comes to life and retells his life story.

  • EXCLUSIVE: Rhys Ifans Comments on ‘No Way Home’ Return

EXCLUSIVE: Rhys Ifans Comments on ‘No Way Home’ Return

Spider-Man: No Way Home finally swings into theaters this week and fans are eagerly anticipating not only the ending of the first MCU Spidey trilogy, but putting to rest all the crazy rumors that have swirled around this film for over a year. Promotional material for the film put a rest to any doubts that the film would feature villains from Sam Raimi and Marc Webb’s Spider-franchises as they heavily featured Doc Ock, Green Goblin, Electro, Sandman and Lizard. One doubt that has remained front and center for fans, however, is if Thomas Haden Church and Rhys Ifans returned to play Flint Marko and Curtis Conners, respectively.

Ifans’ Conners proved a key character in The Amazing Spider-Man, not only as the villain but as link between Peter and his father. While the Lizard was an outright villain, Conners was a bit of tortured genius and Ifans played the role well. Ifans is playing another tortured genius, Rasputin, in the upcoming film The King’s Man. Our own Hunter Radesi interviewed Ifans today and asked the actor if he was in fact the man behind the Lizard again for Spider-Man: No Way Home. With a big grin on his face, Ifans responded:

Well you know, like most Christmas presents, the good thing is not knowing what’s in them until it’s time to open them.

While Jaime Foxx and Alfred Molina seemed all too happy to talk about their time in the film, Ifans was definitely a little less forthcoming. With the aforementioned actors returning for their roles, it’s hard to imagine that Sony and Marvel Studios didn’t do everything in their power to bring Ifans and Church back as well. With just 4 days until the film’s debut in theaters, we won’t have to be left wondering much longer.

  • Destin Daniel Cretton Updates Progess on ‘Shang-Chi’ Sequel

Destin Daniel Cretton Updates Progess on ‘Shang-Chi’ Sequel

Shang-Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings became a critical and financial success for Marvel Studios during the ongoing pandemic. To no one’s surprise, a rumored sequel was officially given the green light recently, with Destin Daniel Cretton returning to write and direct. Cretton, who is also developing a Disney+ series that spins out of the events of the first film, recently gave an update on the Shang-Chi sequel in an interview with Collider.

As is often the case, it turns out that conversations that took place during the production of the first film ended up being the genesis of a potential sequel; however, as Cretton told Collider, sequels aren’t guaranteed until Marvel Studios’ execs see how the first project is received by fans:

While we were shooting, we were throwing around joke ideas of what a sequel could be. But with Marvel, it really is gauging to see how people react to the movie and also gauging what the experience of making the movie was. We had such a good time on it that it would’ve been a shame not to have a sequel, so I’m very excited to.

And Shang-Chi was incredibly well-received. Audiences lauded the acting, action and fantasy elements and were immediately hungry for more. That demand gives Cretton an opportunity to more fully develop some of those idea thrown around during production on the first film, ideas that, as it turns out, made their way into the first film as potential sequel set-ups:

There are a lot of ideas that we had in the opener, and some of those ideas are planted as questions, by the end of our movie. There are things that we potentially want to explore in the future. Everything changes so much, so it’s hard to say how many of those ideas will actually make it to the finish line, but there are many of them there.

With all that prep work having been done, it would seem that Cretton’s sequel script might be well underway. However, Cretton told Collider that is far from the truth. When asked about the work he’d done on the script, the writer/director had this to say:

I’ve done [zero]. It’s a fun place to be right now. Everything is a possibility. We’re just tossing very loose ideas around and we’ll start to hone in on something, hopefully.

During the interview, Cretton also expressed his excitement to be able to continue working with both Marvel Studios and the cast and crew of the first film. His new deal with the studio should excite fans of the first film as we can look forward to great content for years to come.

  • RUMOR: ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’s to Feature the High Evolutionary as its Main Villain

RUMOR: ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’s to Feature the High Evolutionary as its Main Villain

After many delays, we’ve been anxiously awaiting the next entry in the Guardians of the Galaxy film. James Gunn’s final romp into the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s galaxy will feature our favorite ragtag team of space heroes. Even after all this time, it’s surprising how little we know about the actual project, but it turns out we might’ve gotten our first hint at the main antagonist.

KC Walsh, who is famous for his work on GWW and dropped the World War Hulk news, recently appeared on the Change My Mind podcast and seemingly revealed that the upcoming threequel will feature the High Revolutionary as its main antagonist. He highlights that he is “essentially the idea in the movie is that he’s gonna be the one who created Rocket,” which has been hinted at something that the film would explore. His full quote states that:

I did hear – this is a thing that’s been floating around – the villain of Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 3 is the High Evolutionary.

    KC Walsh

Exploring Rocket’s origin sounds like a promising direction for the franchise, as he’s also been the emotional core of some of the stories. Of course, we don’t know how it continues the story out of Thor: Love and Thunder where they’ll be featured and if they continue their hunt for Gamora from a different timeline. We still have some time until it releases but it’ll be interesting to see what the future has in store for the Guardians.

  • Daredevil Will Reportedly Don Yellow Costume in ‘She-Hulk’

Daredevil Will Reportedly Don Yellow Costume in ‘She-Hulk’

A weight was lifted off of Charlie Cox‘s shoulders this week as the MCU overlord Kevin Feige himself made the announcement that Charlie was slated to return as Matt Murdock in future appearances. However, Charlie has still a lot of rumors and reports to fend off in future press interviews such as this latest one claiming that Daredevil will don his classic yellow outfit in a purported appearance in She-Hulk.

According to insider KC Walsh in the Change My Mind podcast, he says the following:

A lot of cameos, the biggest one, again, I don’t think this is spoiling anything if you’ve already been on the internet, but Daredevil is definitely showing up in costume, in the yellow digs, so that’ll be nice.

Knowing Feige’s love for the roots of Marvel characters, it isn’t surprising to see him bat for something brand new for ‘Ol Hornhead. The Netflix shows relied too heavily on his now-iconic makeshift black costume, opting to use his tactical red costume less and less as the story went on. That Marvel Studios is keen on giving us a new look for Daredevil is very exciting and can only mean for things we haven’t seen yet with the character in live-action.
