Disney+ Day Starts Early in Europe with New Design Updates

It looks like Disney+ Day has started early for Europe, as some have reported that it’s gone online earlier than expected. So, some of the Disney+ Day releases like Olaf Presents, Home Sweet Home Alone, Under the Helmet, Dopesick (only available through Disney+ Star), and many more have found their way online early. Not just that, it also includes a few welcomed additions to the visual design of the app. They’ve highlighted the new additions at the top of the site.

The streaming service has continuously built various collections of popular shows or media that were connected. When Black Widow was released, they had all the films she was featured in available in a nice bundle, but you had to click on it to access it. It seems they’ve decided to add a new section that highlights the entries, such as the various Frozen properties.

Last, but not least, they’ve also offered a new “Coming Soon” section that was dearly missing for those wanting to keep up with what new series are heading our way. It’s a staple for other streaming services like Netflix and HBO Max. So, it was strange that it took this long to add the feature. Yet, also have to highlight that it’s hidden away quite a bit down.

The MCU special won’t go online until later, but it’s great that they are celebrating Disney+ Day not just with special content, but also giving the streaming service a much-needed visual upgrade. There are still some things missing if you compare and it visually isn’t the most stunning offerings in the market, but it’s great to see they are slowly expanding the

  • REPORT: ‘Blue Beetle’ Eyeing Early 2022 Production Start

REPORT: ‘Blue Beetle’ Eyeing Early 2022 Production Start

The DC Expanded Universe continues to expand as it plots more and more films like Batgirl, Zatanna, and even Blue Beetle. The latter will follow Jaime Reyes, the third, most recent, and most popular character to wield the mantle of Blue Beetle. Jaime is set to be played by the Cobra Kai‘s Xolo Maridueña, perfect casting for what’s surely shaping up to be many peoples most anticipated comic book films.

Not much is known about the project, as it’s yet to add any other talent to its cast. It seems like that could be changing very soon as it seems production on the film could begin in the first quarter of 2022. A new Production Weekly listing has the film set to begin filming in Georgia sometime early next year. Usually these types of dates from production weekly are taken with a grain of salt, but director Angel Manuel Soto has added some fuel to the fire by retweeting the news on his Twitter account.

There’s always a chance this production start date may change, but it seems Soto is anticipating an early 2022 start date if he also openly retweets it. The film will release as an HBO Max Original film but currently has no release date. The film is one of many upcoming DCEU films set to debut on the streaming platform in an interesting move to expand its shared DC universe from WB.

Jaime Reyes is the first Blue Beetle to actually don the scarab and wears the exoskeleton armor created by the Reach. It’ll be interesting to see how the film honors the past Beetles as it seems Ted Kord is poised to play a larger role in the film based on the concept art we saw at DC Fandome.

  • How ‘Marvel’s Avengers’ Spider-Man DLC Differs From Previous Heroes

How ‘Marvel’s Avengers’ Spider-Man DLC Differs From Previous Heroes

Spider-Man is finally coming to Marvel’s Avengers after being announced sometime before it was released. Not only did we get a good look at his in-game costume, but even a glimpse of his upcoming story titled “With Great Power.” Now, the interesting thing is that the character was advertised as a “hero event” rather than as a full-on operation like previous entries, Kate Bishop, Clint Barton, and Black Panther. It opened some questions and luckily, their latest War Table blog entry offered some insight into what exactly the wording means for when the character drops November 30th alongside its first Raid.

The overarching difference is scale, which impacts the way the story is told. The Hero-Event doesn’t come with a story campaign in the way an Operation does. The Spider-Man Hero Event narrative is told through a combination of cutscenes, dialogue, and a chain of documents. There are objectives for his story that unlock these documents as they are completed, which unfolds his narrative arc and gradually reveals his journey in our original Avengers world. As a result, Spider-Man will already be unlocked for existing Missions, rather than having to recruit him as a playable Hero during his story via story missions.

It’s an interesting distinction and wouldn’t be too surprising if some future hero releases follow a similar structure. Operations are lengthy story missions that build-up towards the Kree invasion. So, if they want to add minor characters that don’t tie into the main plot, it’s the best approach. Plus, they can spread out the operations more and better allocate their resources to keep a flow of content at a stable rate. Here’s hoping we find out if this becomes a regularity once the next heroes are teased for 2022.

  • Tom Holland Uncertain About His MCU Future After ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’

Tom Holland Uncertain About His MCU Future After ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’

All eyes are on Spider-Man: No Way Home. The film will not only be the third entry in the MCU adaptation of the popular character but may also become a melting pot for all the Spider-Man franchises that came before. Alfred Molina’s Doc Ock has been the main focus for most of Sony’s promotion, and we even got a tease of Willem Dafoe’s Green Goblin. Of course, this multiversal story opens up the question of what the future has in store for our webhead but not even Tom Holland is sure about that. In an interview with Total Film, he was asked what comes after the release of No Way Home, but he is just as uncertain as we are.

I don’t know. I don’t know. I genuinely don’t know. It’s something I’m thinking about a lot, and it’s something that’s on my mind all the time. But I genuinely don’t have an answer for you.

    Tom Holland

There are quite a few theories about what the future might have in store for Holland‘s version of the character. Venom: Let There Be Carnage seemed to set up an eventual confrontation, while it’s uncertain if he’ll even remain as part of the MCU moving forward. Sony seems hellbent on continuing the franchise. So, it seems unlikely they’d recast the character, especially if they want to continue banking on the MCU connection as well. Here’s hoping that we get a clearer picture once the film releases in December.

  • Jon M. Chu to Direct ‘Oh The Places You’ll Go!’ For Warner Bros. Animation

Jon M. Chu to Direct ‘Oh The Places You’ll Go!’ For Warner Bros. Animation

Crazy Rich Asians director Jon M. Chu will direct an adaption of the Dr. Seuss classic, Oh The Places You’ll Go! The news comes courtesy of Deadline, who reports the project is for Warner Bros. Animation. Unfortunately, those eager to see the animated flick will have to wait quite a few years. As it stands, Chu’s Oh The Places You’ll Go! will not hit theaters until 2027.

The project has been in development since 2018 when Warner Bros. started working with the Dr. Seuss Estate. J.J. Abrams‘ Bad Robot Productions joins the animated project with Abrams serving as an executive producer along with Hannah Minghella, Bad Robot’s Head of Motion Pictures. While Chu got the job, he was not necessarily the easiest choice for Bad Robot and Warner Bros. as he’s never directed an animated feature.

However, it’s said that Chu has expressed his interest in tackling an animated film to Warner Bros. previously. The director was part of creative pods the studio created for branded material like Dr. Seuss and Hanna Barbara in the past. The studio ultimately decided to circle back to Chu because of his ability to direct with heart and humanity.

Oh, The Places You’ll Go! debuts in 2027.

  • Lizzy Caplan Joins Paramount+’s ‘Fatal Attraction’ Remake

Lizzy Caplan Joins Paramount+’s ‘Fatal Attraction’ Remake

Paramount+ continues trying to revive some classic franchises, as they’ve already eyed their second with Fatal Attraction. The Hollywood Reporter has announced that Castle Rocks Lizzy Caplan has been hired to spearhead a new adaptation of the 1987 classic. It was ordered script-to-series earlier this year and has now found its leading star. Dirty John‘s Alexandra Cunningham will write and be the series’ showrunner for Amblin Television. Kevin J. Hymes also has co-story credit and will also act as executive producer.

Paramount+ president of original scripted series, Nicole Clemens, shared her enthusiasm on the reimagining of the classic:

Alexandra brings an incredibly strong and nuanced point of view to a story that became a cultural phenomenon but has thus far only been told from the male gaze. Partnered with Kevin, they will bring the next explosive chapter of this story to a new generation with a balanced eye to the complexities of the human psyche

    Nicole Clemens

Amblin’s Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey also join as executive producers. The series will act as a reimagining of the original psychosexual thriller. THR highlights that it’ll explore marriage and infidelity from a modern perspective. Caplan‘s character is Alex, who was played by Glenn Close in the original and will become obsessed with her lover throughout the story.

To build-up to its release, Disney has announced that U.K. artists FKA twigs and Central Cee have collaborated on a new single titled “Measure of a Man.” It’ll premiere on Clara Amfo’s Hottest Record on Radio 1 at 6 p.m. GMT on November 18th. It’s been quite the wait since his initial announcement before the game was even released last year, but he has finally arrived. Luckily, we already got the first trailer teasing the character’s upcoming hero event DLC titled “With Great Power” that’ll be available exclusively for PlayStation players. He’ll release November 30th alongside the game’s first Raid and some important gear reworks.

They still won’t give away who the voice actor is, but they do seem like the performance is combining Josh Keaton and Yuri Lowenthal‘s in a way. It’s only a glimpse at the character and his new hero story, but we’ll have to wait a little longer until we get the character in action. Luckily, we’ll get a new War Table video on November 29th, which will offer a glimpse of the Klaw Raid and how the character will play. • Mahershala Ali Talks Voicing Blade in ‘Eternals’ and His MCU Future

Mahershala Ali Talks Voicing Blade in ‘Eternals’ and His MCU Future

Mahershala Ali‘s Blade made his debut much earlier than we initially expected. At the tail end of the Eternals, a voice can be heard talking to Dane Whitman as he tried to touch the Ebony Blade. Director Chloé Zhao confirmed that it was actually the Vampire Hunter actor, who provided the voice-over. After a bit of silence, Ali has opened up on tackling the role for the first time without being physically present.

It was scary. Because, you know, you’re talking before you’re filming it. I’m pretty particular about my choices, like most actors, and so having to make some choices – even with a line, vocally – this early on, it brought up some very real anxieties. And it made the job real. It’s like, ‘Okay, this is happening now’, you know, and that’s exciting.

    Mahershala Ali

He was also asked about what it felt like to finally bring the character to life after the announcement all the way back in 2019’s San Diego Comic-Com. Even better, Ali teases that they might finally start work on the project very soon.

That Marvel world is obviously the biggest in film, and just to get my little introduction to that – starting with the Comic Con a couple years ago, and now the very early stages of stepping into the shoes of that character – it felt special and really cool. I’m excited to get going and do more. We’re getting there. We’re getting close.

    Mahershala Ali

The last update we got on the project was when they added Mogul Mowgli‘s Bassam Tariq as the film’s director, but there’s been little on the project since. Still, his appearance in Eternals might offer a hint on where this take on the character is heading, especially with the film’s writers teasing a curious connection between vampires and the Ebony Blade. So, we might see him again ahead of his solo film outing.

  • REPORT: X-Men Animated Series Revival a Go on Disney Plus

REPORT: X-Men Animated Series Revival a Go on Disney Plus

In a huge announcement just ahead of Marvel Studios Disney Plus Day, GWW revealed that Marvel Studios is producing a continuation of X-Men: The Animated Series. The original series, which is available on Disney Plus, ran from 1992 until 1997 and introduced a generation of kids to the X-Men. It was one of Marvel’s most famous animated ventures alongside the Spider-Man: The Animated Series. So, this report comes at a perfect time, especially as Marvel Studios is eyeing more animated projects in the future, it almost seemed like the perfect recipe to revisit the mutants

Rumors about the revival have been swirling since last year when original series director and producer Larry Huston revealed he’d had discussions with Disney. Recently, KC Walsh of GWW teased that he’d heard something about the show as well. So, it’s great to finally get a clearer picture of what he’s heard on the project. He does point out he’s unsure if this is a revival or a new series, but believes it is closer to the latter.

The series is rumored to go into production in 2023 and we could learn more about the potential series tomorrow at Disney Plus Day. So, here’s hoping that we don’t have to wait long until we get an official announcement from Marvel. It’ll be interesting if this new animated project is also tied into the MCU, as their last venture, What If…?, was considered canon.
