  • ‘The Boys’ Season 3 Eyeing Early 2021 Production Start

‘The Boys’ Season 3 Eyeing Early 2021 Production Start

With its second season just about to wrap up, The Boys looks to be eyeing an early production start for its next season. Of course, Amazon won’t waste any time, as the show has become a smash hit for the streaming service. According to Forbes, The Boys was the first streaming show to break into Nielsen’s top ten streaming shows as a non-Netflix series. It came in at third place with 819 million minutes streamed. It is only beat out by Lucifer and Cobra Kai. The shows highly anticipated third season received an early renewal prior to the current seasons’ debut back in September. Now, they aim to begin production in early 2021.

The meta superhero drama is set to begin filming on February 12th in Toronto and wrap around August 12th. The upcoming season will introduce Soldier Boy, played by Jensen Ackles. He is one of the first superheroes to hit the scene during World War Two. We haven’t heard any other casting news, so they might roll out once they film. Shawn Ashmore‘s addition was quite a surprise in the later half of the current season, so they might have quite a few secrets under lock and key. For now, The Boys’ second season will finish up its eight-episode run this week. The highly anticipated finale “What I Know” will surely blow many fans minds (pun intended).

  • ‘Jurassic World: Dominion’s First Poster Reveals New 2022 Release Date

‘Jurassic World: Dominion’s First Poster Reveals New 2022 Release Date

The pandemic really has not been kind. Every major film for 2020 has now been postponed into 2021. Of course, that year is crowding up with many tentpole releases. As such, many wondered if any films would be postponed into 2022 as a result. Well, looks like we have the first major franchise to postpone its release, as Jurassic World: Dominion officially postponed to June 10th, 2022. So far, it’s the only competition in that month will be an unannounced Pixar film. The Flash was originally going to release that year but was postponed until November. This announcement isn’t all that bad, as it did come with a brand new poster featuring the iconic image in amber.

The poster looks great. It reminds me of the time when 1989’s Batman just released the symbol. We all recognize this visual so it is a great simple way to give people something while the film is still in production. The delay sadly makes sense as it is uncertain if any of the current productions will be able to stick to their schedule. At any time a COVID case could disrupt production for weeks. It gives them time to focus on getting productions ready, focus on the health of their teams, and not rush anything.

As difficult as it has been, it is important that we keep the hardworking team behind the scenes in mind. Also, this just means they’ll have even more time to work out the details and polish up the effects. Jurassic World: Dominion will see the return of Jurassic Park‘s original trio, which is already a promising addition. It will be interesting to see the dinosaurs roam the United States, and how they save them from being hunted back into extinction. It makes you wonder if this also means they will have to rebuild a park, or if they will find a natural habitat for the dinosaurs. Whatever it may be, we will be there once it opens in theatres in 2022.

  • Batmobile Cartoon ‘Batwheels’ Heading to HBO Max and Cartoon Network

Batmobile Cartoon ‘Batwheels’ Heading to HBO Max and Cartoon Network

We’ve all been waiting for the next DC show to be added to HBO Max’s fantastic line-up. The streaming service allowed DC to branch out and explore darker storylines. Doom Patrol and Harley Quinn certainly highlight this new direction. So, I don’t think many expected the next DC entry to be a pre-school action comedy featuring a living Batmobile. You read that right, it is not about Batman or Robin but their vehicles. It’s actually a very cute idea that seems strongly inspired by Pixar’s Cars. The short description of the show also features a variety of other familiar bat vehicles joining the fight against crime.

Having just been created by the Batcomputer, our heroes are essentially kids with little to no life experience.  Led by Bam (The Batmobile), the Batwheels – Bibi (The Batgirl Cycle), Red (The Redbird), Jett (The Batwing) and Buff (The Bat Truck) – must navigate the growing pains of being a newly formed super team as well as the growing pains that come with just being a kid.  This relatable and aspirational series will follow the journey of this dynamic team as they thrill and entertain with their heroic adventures as well as demonstrate to kids the value of self-confidence, friendship and teamwork.

The show is being produced by Warner Bros. Animation with Sam Register serving as executive producer. He is joined by Michael G. Stern as a co-executive producer and Simon J. Smith as a supervising producer. Steven Fink of Bang Zoom Ltd. is also set as a producer. Warner Bros. Global Kids, Young Adults and Classics president Tom Ascheim also had the following to say about the show.

Batwheels is the perfect show to headline our new foray into preschool. I can’t wait for all the aspiring super heroes out there to meet this whole new batch of crime-fighters.

Batwheels sounds like a perfect introduction for pre-schoolers into the world of Batman and DC. The first visual shared also seems to hint that it will still combine a modern neo-design with some gothic influences. It will be interesting to see how many vehicles will be introduced that act as stand-ins for the Joker, Riddler, and many other famous rogues. This is a perfect addition for any Batman fan with a young kid.

  • Latest ‘Marvel’s Avengers’ Leak Teases Doctor Strange Storyline & ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s Jemma Simmons

Latest ‘Marvel’s Avengers’ Leak Teases Doctor Strange Storyline & ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s Jemma Simmons

Marvel Avengers‘ leaks have become my favorite past-time at this rate. We are still anxiously awaiting the reveal of the game’s roadmap. It was teased all the way back during the early September release but so far nothing. It makes sense, Crystal Dynamics is focusing on fixing the bugs that have become the norm with Games-as-a-Service releases. Still, a lot of leaks have been pointing to some great additions coming in the near future including War Machine, Black Panther, and many more. Ever since the leaks have calmed won with even some fake 3D models being shared online teasing an Infinity Gauntlet. Sadly, that turned out to be from Fortnite’s model, so it seemed like the leaks have stopped.  At least that was until now, as @mmmmmmmmiller has once again shared something that was leaked. This time around, it is an audio file that is from a very hyper NPC. At face value, there is no dead giveaway who this character could be but Miller luckily has a very unsubtle hint based on his own data mining.

So, yeah, the audio file would be strongly hinting at the addition of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. character Jemma Simmons. He also points out that the voice lines are from a stand-in actress as they might not have cast yet. This isn’t the first time Simmons was featured in a Marvel’s game, as she also had a starring role in Marvel’s Future Fight. The audio file does not confirm that it is Simmons, but sentences like “absolutely smashing” could be a hint at the future voice cast being British. That or it is a female version of Nigel Thornberry. Still, it is an audio file for the Avengers game as she also mentions the Anthill. It also confirms that they’ve planned out most of the future content in advance, which probably is one of the reasons the current build is still barebones. They have to prepare a lot of assets in advance to keep a consistent flow of content post-launch, and I theorize that recent events may have shifted a lot as well.

Still, let’s focus on what this audio file may tease. We might not see her in the upcoming Substation Base update, as her storyline seems to connect to ghosts of some kind. Yes, this audio file confirms that we will see some supernatural activities. This reveal also matches the leak that Doctor Strange will be in the game as a playable character at one point. There is also the mention of Tanaka. Now, that is an interesting name, as there are multiple Tanaka’s in comic history. There is the martial arts teacher of X-23, which would tease the future addition of the X-Men. Yet, there is also Leiko Tanaka, who some might recognize as Big Hero 6‘s GoGo Tomago. Either way, this reveal could be a massive addition to the game in future updates. Each new leak certainly gets me pumped for the future of this game.

  • DC Film Slate Hit With More Delays

DC Film Slate Hit With More Delays

Once again the pandemic has hit the movie industry hard, this time affecting Warner Brothers highly anticipated and packed release slate. This isn’t  the first round of delays the studio has faced since theaters shutdown in mid-March, being one of the first to release a film PVOD.

On Monday it was announced that Matt Reeves’ The Batman would once again be facing another delay, moving from its October 1st, 2021 release date to March 4th, 2022. After shutting down production in March, the film had only just resumed filming this September before facing yet another day when their star Robert Pattinson, contracted COVID-19. The film has resumed filming in the UK and film more scenes outside in Chicago in the coming weeks.

The Batman delay was felt across the multiverse, reaching those in the main DCEU continuity with The FlashBlack Adam, and Shazam: Fury of The Gods all having their release dates reworked due to the uncertain times the industry currently faces. Andy Muschietti’s The Flash has shifted from its June 3rd, 2022 release date to November 4th, 2022, it’s become hard to keep track of all the delays this film has faced so hopefully this is the last. Shazam: Fury of The Gods will move from its November 4th, release date to June 2nd, 2023. It’s unclear if these release date delays will affect the films current production schedules, with Shazam it’s become and apparent issue that the cast is quickly aging and these delays could make it much more of an issue for the film. Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam faced probably the worst fate, having initially been dated to release on December 22nd, 2021, has now been removed from the release calendar and currently remains in limbo.

DC films such as The Suicide Squad  and Wonder Woman 1984 remain in their current release dates but it isn’t hard to imagine that these films will also suffer the same fate. A delay for the next Wonder Woman film is almost certain, seeing as a Dune has moved from its December 18th, 2020 release date to October 1st, 2021, a date that belonged to The Batman before today’s announcements.

  • ‘House of Dragon’ Adds Paddy Considine as Targaryen Lead

‘House of Dragon’ Adds Paddy Considine as Targaryen Lead

Finally, it has been a long wait for any official news on the casting surrounding the upcoming Game of Thrones spin-off, House of Dragon. The series is inspired by George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood as it follows the house of Targaryen 300 years before the events of the main series. It has now been reported by The Hollywood Reporter that HBO veteran Paddy Considine will be leading the show as King Viserys Targaryen. He is described as a warm, kind, and decent man, whose only wish is to carry on his grandfather’s legacy. Sadly, a kind man doesn’t always make for a great king, which will be an important lesson he’ll learn throughout the series.

The show was picked up straight-to-series with a 10-episode order. Martin and Ryan Condal are acting as series creators. Condal and Sara Lee Hess will be penning the script. Game of Thrones veteran Miguel Sapochnik will be acting as showrunner alongside Hess. He is also attached to direct the pilot and a few episodes. Considine is a great addition as the series lead. He has quite the extensive filmography ranging from Hot Fuzz, Peaky Blinders to HBO’s The Outsider. This is certainly a series to keep an eye out for as we near its production start. As the show focuses on the Targaryen history, we will see how many dragons they will show on-screen. Game of Thrones was a massive success for HBO, so they will be investing quite a bit into this show.

  • ‘M.O.D.O.K.’ Stop-Motion Animated Show Eyeing Early 2021 Release

‘M.O.D.O.K.’ Stop-Motion Animated Show Eyeing Early 2021 Release

Somehow, the Patton Oswalt-led M.O.D.O.K. show survived the great Marvel TV purge. Marvel Studios CEO Kevin Feige took over with his new focus on Disney+ and canceled most of the active shows. As such, Hellstrom and M.O.D.O.K. are the last remaining productions from Jeph Loeb‘s era. The latter will premiere on Hulu and was originally part of the Offenders crossover franchise. So far, we didn’t know much about the project. Suddenly, it got a panel at New York Comic-Con’s. Now, we even got some more details, as Oswalt also offered some details on the show’s production while promoting the third season of A.P. Bio.

The episodes have been written. They’ve been recorded. Now they’re being animated. And because we committed very hard to the stop-motion aspect to it and we’re packing every frame with crazy detail. It’s looking like it’ll be early next year, but I don’t know the exact date yet.

It is great to hear that we won’t wait too long for the show. As they have already recorded everything, they primarily only have to focus on the animation. This is probably a bigger surprise for me, as I didn’t realize that it would be stop-motion. Yes, studio Stoopid Buddy Stoodios is well-known for their work on Robot Chicken but it still is quite surprising given Marvel’s history with animation shows. The official description by Hulu teases quite a unique show.

In Marvel’s M.O.D.O.K.,” the megalomaniacal supervillain M.O.D.O.K. (Patton Oswalt) has long pursued his dream of one day conquering the world. But after years of setbacks and failures fighting the Earth’s mightiest heroes, M.O.D.O.K. has run his evil organization A.I.M. into the ground. Ousted as A.I.M.’s leader, while also dealing with his crumbling marriage and family life, the Mental Organism Designed Only for Killing is set to confront his greatest challenge yet: a midlife crisis!

It’s certainly an interesting approach to such an iconic character. As this takes place after M.O.D.O.K. had fought the Avengers, so we can expect a few cameos throughout the show. Also, it is interesting that in this version, he is married. There is a good chance his wife will be Monica Rappaccini, who many will recognize from the recent Marvel’s Avengers game. It will be quite a unique entry in the Marvel multiverse, and I cannot wait to see what approach they take with the iconic villain.

  • ‘HAWKEYE’ Searching for Young Echo, Crazy Horse Lincoln and More

‘HAWKEYE’ Searching for Young Echo, Crazy Horse Lincoln and More

Marvel Studios streaming series Hawkeye has made quite a bit of news lately and now it looks like they are ready to start filling some supporting roles ahead of what looks to now be a November start of production.

Most notable among them, the series is searching for an actress, 8 years old, to portray a young version of Maya Lopez, whose addition to the MCU we first reported here and was confirmed just last week. The studio is seeking a deaf, Indigenous girl described as “independent, athletic and bright” which, coincidentally are the same descriptors used for Echo in the original call. Additionally, they are also searching for an Indigenous American to portray “a loving father and fierce protector”, a description that fits the bill for Echo’s father, Crazy Horse Lincoln. In the comics, Lincoln worked for and was killed by Wilson Fisk. As he died, he places his bloody hand on his daughter’s face, creating the look for which Echo is famous.

The series is also casting several recurring roles including an Eastern European henchman, an NYC police detective, an “oddball” that sounds suspiciously like Grills (Clint’s neighbor from the Fraction run), a “smart and scrappy” young, Midwestern woman, a pair of young kids (anyone remember Clint babysitting?) and a “professional and ambitious career woman.”

It’ll be interesting to see how this adaptation of the Fraction run works Maya Lopez’s origin story into it. Could Madame Masque fill the role of Kingpin and be the mob boss that sets her on the path to becoming Echo? While it might not be popular with fans, it’s a fairly easy change to have Madame Masque raise Echo and make her believe Barton was responsible for the death of her father, perhaps during his time as Ronin. We’ll have a bit of a wait to find out as it doesn’t seem like we’ll be seeing Hawkeye until late 2021.

  • ‘GLOW’s Fourth Season Retroactively Canceled Due to COVID Pandemic

‘GLOW’s Fourth Season Retroactively Canceled Due to COVID Pandemic

Netflix has been canceling shows left and right long before the pandemic was a thing. We have talked about their overall strategy in the past of axing shows around the second or third season. So, many were relieved when it was announced that GLOW was at least renewed for a final fourth season back in August of 2019. Now, over a year later, Netflix has decided to cancel the show after all due to COVID restricting productions. . Series creators Liz Flahive and Carly Mensch did offer a statement regarding the sudden news.

COVID has killed actual humans. It’s a national tragedy and should be our focus. COVID also apparently took down our show. Netflix has decided not to finish filming the final season of GLOW. We were handed the creative freedom to make a complicated comedy about women and tell their stories. And wrestle. And now that’s gone. There’s a lot of sh*tty things happening in the world that are much bigger than this right now. But it still sucks that we don’t get to see these 15 women in a frame together again.

This sadly makes sense. The main focus of the series is on wrestling, which requires a lot of physical interaction. It is quite the risk to film this project, especially if it consistently has to shutdown production. It wouldn’t even air until 2022 at the earliest which would mean that fans would’ve waited two and a half years between seasons. Keep in mind, the fourth season already started production and was suspended mid-March. So far, only one episode had been completed before they could move on to the second one. Also, this reveal comes at a point were many other shows have just returned to their production. GLOW isn’t the only COVID-affected show as the renewed shows of The Society and I Am Not Okay With This were also cancelled. It is uncertain if other shows might share the same fate moving forward.
