Part man. Part machine. All body horror. Following years of slow-burn development in the wake of Amazon’s acquisition of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, Prime Video has officially handed down a formal eight-episode series order for a live-action reboot of RoboCop.
The revival is being spearheaded by Blumhouse Atomic Monster alongside showrunner Peter Ocko (Lodge 49, Pushing Daisies), with horror icon James Wan set to executive produce and helm key episodes. The trade update also confirms that Ed Neumeier—co-creator and co-writer of Paul Verhoeven‘s iconic 1987 original—has officially boarded the series as an executive producer.
While initial development reports teased a broader look at Omni Consumer Products (OCP), the official series logline locks down the human core of the dynamic:
A giant tech conglomerate convinces the city to place a powerful robot on its police force—a machine implanted with the consciousness of a beloved, fallen officer.
Speaking on the announcement, Atomic Monster’a James Wan highlighted how the 1987 classic’s sharp corporate satire has aged into inescapable real-world relevance: “What Paul Verhoeven created in 1987 was decades ahead of its time, and its questions about technology, identity, and who corporations really serve have only grown more urgent.“
Production is currently tracking to roll cameras in Vancouver in January 2027, aiming for a broad streaming release in late 2027 or early 2028.
Doing RoboCop right in the 21st century requires a delicate, razor-sharp balance. The forgotten 2014 PG-13 film remake failed precisely because it stripped away the gory, cynical corporate satire that gave Verhoeven’s vision its immortal soul. Putting Peter Ocko—a writer celebrated for eccentric, deeply human character work—in the showrunner chair alongside James Wan and original architect Ed Neumeier is the absolute best creative recipe Amazon could have built.
