In news that’s been kicking around behind the scenes for quite some time now, Sony has seemingly pulled the plug on the production of El Muerto. A Marvel Comics character with only two comic book appearances to speak of, El Muerto was a shocking choice as a character for Sony to develop a project around. However, with superstar Bad Bunny attached as the lead, the project created quite a buzz when it was announced in April 2022. Now, according to THR’s Borys Kit, the project has been removed from Sony’s slate.
The news comes on the heels of a report that indicated the project was looking to enter into production this summer. However, with the WGA strike ongoing and a looming SAG strike, it’s hardly surprising news that the film won’t be able to make that rumored August start date. As such, Sony has pulled the fill from its January 12th, 2024 release date and it remains to be seen if and when it will be rescheduled.
