Giancarlo Epsosito on Gideon Moff’s Mando Future: “You’ll See Me, Baby!”

The Mandalorian has given new life to the Star Wars franchise with 2 great seasons and at least 2 spinoff series (The Book of Boba Fett and Ahsoka) on the way. Season 3 of The Mandalorian is in pre-production now and, given the way Season 2 wrapped up, seems as if it will take fans in a new direction now that Grogu has gone his own way under the care of Luke Skywalker. With Grogu seemingly out of the picture, fans have wondered what will become of the series’ main antagonist, Moff Gideon, whose pursuit of the Child set him on a collision course with Din Djarin that did not end favorably for the Imperial remnant. In an interview with Variety, Giancarlo Esposito painted a pretty clear picture of Gideon’s future in the series.

I have to imagine you would. I can’t speak for them, but I know I have desire. I think we need to see Moff to continue the story and to continue the pressure that – and the edge – that someone with the big brain that Moff has thinks about. So, I could almost guarantee it, but you know, there’s never a guarantee, but you know… you’ll see me, baby. Come on! I mean, the fact that I’m here tonight and in the position I am to be nominated for Moff Gideon. I just, I thank Jon Favreau and I thank Dave Filoni and thank Disney and Kathleen Kennedy for producing. This show, though, its’ taken people by storm, because there’s so much to love.

Gideon provided a formidable threat to the Mando throughout the first 2 seasons…right up until he did not. Gideon fancied himself a guy who was playing chess while everyone else was playing checkers, but when he found himself up against a pissed of Mando and crew, he was, predictably and understandably, unable to put up much of a fight. However, knowledge is power and it’s clear that Gideon is a man who makes it his business to know as much as possible and while the ending of season 2 left him in a less than favorable position, it’s not too hard to imagine him finding a way to get himself back on his feet and becoming a thorn in the side of Djarin, Bo Katan and company as they move on to a new chapter.
