Frank Castle might be trading the dark, bloody alleys of Hell’s Kitchen for a broader role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but don’t expect him to leave his comic book roots behind. In an exclusive interview with ComicBook.com, Jon Bernthal declared that “nothing is off the table” when it comes to the Punisher’s evolving MCU aesthetic—including the iconic, white gloves and white boots from classic Marvel Comics.
Fresh off The Punisher: One Last Kill and stepping right into his high-profile crossover in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Bernthal reflected on how his protective stance on Frank Castle has evolved alongside Marvel Studios’ willingness to lean into comic-accurate flair.
While Bernthal’s initial run across the Netflix Marvel era grounded the vigilante in tactical civilian gear and grimy Kevlar vests, fans have spent years wondering if his MCU chapter would ever embrace the bold white boots, white gloves, and stark white skull-harness from his 1974 debut.
When asked directly about whether the MCU could eventually see Frank fully suited up in his classic white accessories, Bernthal made it clear that as long as the character’s internal integrity remains intact, the visual possibilities are endless:
“Look, for me, it always starts with the heart and the integrity of Frank. If the story demands it, if it makes sense for where he is mentally and what he’s doing, nothing is off the table. White boots, white gloves—if we can make it real and make it hit with the weight that Frank deserves, I’m all in.“
Bernthal reiterated that his return to Marvel was strictly contingent on safeguarding Castle’s brutal essence, praising Kevin Feige and the creative team for letting the character retain his raw, uncompromising identity within the wider MCU framework.
