Gillian Anderson Joins the Cast of ‘Tron: Ares’

The news was revealed on Monday by Deadline. Per the outlet, details regarding Anderson’s role are being kept under wraps. Anderson joins a cast that includes Jared Leto, Jodie Turner-Smith, Evan Peters and Greta Lee. Tron: Ares, the third film in the franchise, is expected to follow Leto’s Ares as he travels from the videogame world to the real world. Further details regarding the plan are unknown.

  • ‘Madame Web’ Director Reveals the Film’s Connection to Sony’s Other Spidey Universe Projects

‘Madame Web’ Director Reveals the Film’s Connection to Sony’s Other Spidey Universe Projects

Sony’s latest entry in their Spider-Man Universe, Madame Web, hits theaters on February 14th and marketing for the film is starting to pick up. The project has been at the center of some seriously intriguing rumors over the last year, with some rumblings that the film would be revealed to be set in either Andrew Garfield‘s Amazing Spider-Man universe or, even spicier, Tom Holland‘s MCU Spider-Man’s timeline. In an interview with EW, director SJ Clarkson shed some light on what’s really happening in the film.

Set in 2003, Madame Web, as it turns out, is a standalone story that sounds like it takes place in neither of the aforementioned universes. “She’s definitely in a standalone world,” Clarkson said of the film’s main character, Cassandra Webb. “I was able to just have free rein and let the movie be what it needed to be, as opposed to trying to force it into something else. That was a gift, in a way, to be able to take something and bring a fresh and I hope original take to it.

Photos from the set of Madame Web showed Emma Roberts’ Mary Parker–Peter’s mother–is pregnant during the film. Rumors about the film’s plot have indicated that the villain, Ezekiel Sims, is looking to prevent the birth of Peter Parker. If all that is to be believed and we take the established timelines from the Garfield and Holland films to be true, then the 2003 setting would certainly eliminate any possibility that Madame Web is set in either of their universes. Of course, we could always just take Clarkson at her word!

  • The All-New, All-Different Hypothetical 2026 Marvel Studios Release Calendar, V1

The All-New, All-Different Hypothetical 2026 Marvel Studios Release Calendar, V1

Release slates have never been more fluid than they are now. As productions get up and running again around the world, projects that were supposed to drop in 2024 have already been moved to 2025 and the butterfly effect is in full…effect. Only a crazy person might try to hypothesize when projects might actually see the light of day…so let’s look at one possible Marvel Studios’ release slate for 2026

    January: Wonder Man

After a little creative retooling, Wonder Man resumed production in mid-January which means it will likely complete principal photography no later than Summer. With that in mind, it could easily be ready to roll out in 2025 but with Marvel Studios looking to space out their D+series and with very few new streaming projects far enough in development to get in front of cameras anytime soon, we’ve decided to put the Simon Williams solo series here.

    February 13th: Blade

If you’ve checked out the latest version of the All-New, All-Different Hypothetical 2025 Marvel Studios Release Calendar, you already know why this is here. While everyone would love to see Mahershala Ali’s oft-delayed Blade as soon as possible, production delays on other projects look to be causing the Daywalker’s MCU debut to slide into 2026.

    May 1st: Armor Wars

Initially revealed to be a streaming series, Armor Wars is now a feature film and the first one on any of our hypothetical calendars to not have a release date set aside by Marvel Studios. That makes this spot as purely hypothetical as it gets. With the news that Marvel Studios’ search for a director is underway, it seems likely that cameras could roll on this one in either late 2024 or early 2025 since the script seems to have been in place for some time. IF that’s the case (that’s the nature of these hypothetical calendars, after all), this one would have no problem making this May 1st date…which was most recently set aside for Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.

    July 24th: Spider-Man 4

Nobody knows it better than me: Sony sets the date for the Spidey movies that they make in collaboration with Marvel Studios. So why are we placing Spidey 4 on one of Marvel Studios’ tentative release dates? Because it seems increasingly likely that Spidey 4 (once believed to be a 2025 film) will be released in 2026 and it also seems increasingly unlikely that Marvel Studios will be able to roll Avengers 5 out in 2026.

    September: Vision Quest

Even with Marvel Studios pumping the brakes on their streaming projects while they figure out how to make TV, it does seem Vision Quest is still going to happen. Who is making it and what exactly it will end up looking like are still questions we all have. Originally, it was going to be heavily influenced by Tom King’s excellent 12 issue Vision book but it’s been some time since anyone has had an update. Because this project COULD serve as a sequel to WandaVision and a prequel to the rumored Scarlet Witch solo project, it seems like something the studio would want to make happen and make happen right.

    November 6th: Shang-Chi 2

Another project that has yet to be officially given a spot in Marvel Studios Multiverse Saga, Destin Daniel Cretton’s Shang-Chi sequel seems like a priority for the studio. Cretton dropped out of Avengers 5 to spend more time preparing this which, hypothetically, could be because the studio wants to roll it out first. Interestingly enough, that’s consistent with info we heard a couple of years ago which makes us inclined to buy it.

  • ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ to Restart Production with Original Stunt Coordinator Returning

‘Daredevil: Born Again’ to Restart Production with Original Stunt Coordinator Returning

Here’s a big move for the reboot of the Netflix Daredevil series. It seems that Marvel Studios is trying to push forward after the strong push that was their Echo binge release just a few weeks ago. We’ve known for some time that they are reworking their TV slate moving forward after learning quite a bit in their experimental phase, but as they restart production they are making one significant move.

They have seemingly hired a familiar face for the production, as Philip Silvera is returning as stunt and fight coordinator. The stunt coordinator made quite a vocal statement when he wasn’t asked back not too long ago after defining many of the iconic fight sequences from the original Netflix series.

He’ll also act as the project’s second unit director, further highlighting that they have embraced the Netflix originals now that they are official canon according to Disney+. Production is seemingly going to resume next Monday and they might be adjusting the episode count. They are moving away from the 18-episode model initially announced closer to what the Netflix shows did. If that means 10 or 13 episodes remains an open question.

The release of Echo seems to have sparked quite a bit of interest in the classic series, as it had a halo effect that saw a massive increase for the classic Daredevil and Punisher series. Not just that, even Hawkeye got a major bump in viewership, which may be a telltale sign for Marvel Studios moving forward with their strategy. We might be seeing some old trends return as we did during Phase 2 and 3 of the franchise.

  • The All-New, All-Different Hypothetical 2025 Marvel Studios Release Calendar, V2

The All-New, All-Different Hypothetical 2025 Marvel Studios Release Calendar, V2

Though there have been no official announcements by Marvel Studios, the outlook for 2025 may have changed significantly in the very short amount of time that has passed since we published The All-New, All-Different Hypothetical 2025 Marvel Studios Release Calendar, V1. And that means it’s time for an update!

January 15th-March 12th: Daredevil: Born Again, Part 1

New directors Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead have completed taking stock of the footage that was shot last year and seem to have come away with a little less work to do than fans thought. The latest word is that the directing duo and showrunner Dario Scardapane were able to condense what was filmed into 6 episodes and that they’ll be getting to work on filming a new pilot episode and two additional episodes to complete Part One. However…

According to star Vincent D’Onofrio, this highly anticipated streaming series may no longer be 18 episodes…but will it be more or will it be less?

It seems like there are a few shows that could work with more episodes, then some that just need eight or 10 or six. Echo is like five. I think this show [Born Again] could definitely work with more episodes and I know that Charlie [Cox] is, and I am too, happy to do that.

-Vincent D’Onofrio on the Daredevil: Born Again episode count

Whatever the final total ends up being, it seems Part 1 is still on track for an early 2025 release.

May 2nd: Captain America: Brave New World

The great release date shuffle may never end but a new round may start with Captain America: Brave New World. At one point in time, the studio set aside 5 months for additional photography to take place and brought in Matthew Ortman to script those scenes. While the hope is to start in mid-2024, we’ve heard cameras will not roll again until the powers that be are content with what’s been written rather than trying to course correct on the fly. Whether or not they actually film for 5 months, this project cannot afford to be a miss so expect them to take their time which may just mean it gets bumped off its February date and lands in May.

    July 25: Thunderbolts

Steven Yeun dropped out of the film in early January and though the studio reportedly offered fellow TWD alum Austin Abrams the role of Sentry, the film is still without its Robert Reynolds as now. It’s not quite crunch time yet, however, as principal photography isn’t due to start for another 8-12 weeks. So–for now–this one stays here and can easily make its July release.

    September 3rd-October 8th: Ironheart

As was the prevailing belief, star Dominique Thorne confirmed that Ironheart has completed filming. That means it’s just sitting in the can waiting to be released at Marvel Studios’ pleasure. Given all the concern over many of the projects the last few years, that’s a welcome change. It sounds like a very safe bet that this will roll out in Fall 2025.

    November 7: Fantastic Four

In an effort to accommodate the schedule of yet-to-be-announced-as-Reed-Richards star Pedro Pascal, it seems as though the start of production on Fantastic Four has been bumped into the second half of 2024. If that’s accurate, there’s absolutely no way this makes its May 2025 release date and there’s no need to rush it out in July when Thunderbolts SHOULD be completely ready to go. And so, the first family’s MCU debut will have to wait…perhaps until November. There should be no concern about WHEN MCU movies debut anymore (Doctor Strange, Thor: Ragnarok and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever all did very well at the box office in November) but rather that they release when they are ready to release. That might just mean Mahershal Ali’s Blade gets bumped to 2026 but that might just do the studio a favor as its one and only announced 2026 project might need some more time to cook anyway.

  • ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ Star Gives Ambiguous Update on the Series Episode Count

‘Daredevil: Born Again’ Star Gives Ambiguous Update on the Series Episode Count

When Kevin Feige announced Daredevil: Born Again at SDCC, its planned 18 episodes made it Marvel Studios most ambitious D+ streaming series yet. Now, following a major creative retooling, that episode count is no longer a sure thing.

In an interview with Comic Book’s Adam Barnhardt, Born Again and Echo star Vincent D’Onofrio has revealed that the series is no longer guaranteed to run for 18 episodes.

The amount of episodes keeps fluctuating, so I don’t really know the number that we’re at right now.

-Vincent D’Onofrio on Daredevil: Born Again’s changing episode count

“It seems like there are a few shows that could work with more episodes, then some that just need eight or 10 or six. Echo is like five,” said D’Onofrio. “I think this show [Born Again] could definitely work with more episodes,” he explained, “and I know that Charlie [Cox] is, and I am too, happy to do that.”

Though it seems the show may now be made up of fewer than 18 episodes, D’Onofrio stopped short of putting a number on it, indicating it’s best to wait for word from Marvel. “But the number keeps fluctuating, he said. “I think you’re gonna have to wait for an official announcement, because I don’t want to say a number that we’re going to do because I’m not even quite sure what it is.”

Daredevil: Born Again is expected to hit D+ in 2025.

  • ‘Until Dawn’ Getting Film Adaptation from David F. Sandberg, Gary Dauberman

‘Until Dawn’ Getting Film Adaptation from David F. Sandberg, Gary Dauberman

Until Dawn is heading to the big screen.

The Hollywood Reporter announced on Wednesday that the video game will be adapted for the big screen by horror duo David F. Sandberg and Gary Dauberman. The film, based on the popular PlayStation game of the same name, is being produced by Sony’s Screen Gems and PlayStation Productions. This is a reunion for Sandberg and Dauberman, who have previously teamed together for Annabelle: Creations.

The first take on the script was penned by Blair Butler, who wrote the vampire flick, The Invitation for Sony. Dauberman is expected to do a pass on the screenplay; he, of course, signed an overall deal with Screen Gems last year, and will also produce the Until Dawn adaptation via his Coin Operated banner.

Until Dawn was first released in 2015. It is an interactive horror game that allows players to choose their own path. The game centers on eight friends who come together at a remote mountain retreat. During their stay, the friends will be forced to endure a mysterious killer and cannibalistic wendigos, among other things. The game featured an impressive cast including Hayden Panettiere, Rami Malek, Brett Dalton, and Jordan Fisher.

  • New ‘Deadpool 3’ BTS Photo May Tease the Return to a Major ‘Logan’ Location

New ‘Deadpool 3’ BTS Photo May Tease the Return to a Major ‘Logan’ Location

As Marvel Studios’ only 2024 film, the currently untitled Deadpool movie will certainly garner a significant amount of attention. With the July 26th release date just over 6 months away, production on the film has seemingly wrapped and fans are anticipating the first look at the film will come during Super Bowl LVIII. While there have been plenty of spoilery set photos, there are likely still plenty of surprises still in store for the audience, though star Ryan Reynolds may have just given another one away.

In a recent Instagram story, Reynolds shared a black and white photo of a pair of chairs from the film’s set. The chairs, with the names Logan and Wade Wilson on them, are set in front of a corn field that looks like every other corn field…but they may just give away a key plot point from the film.

Given that his character died in 2018’s Logan, Hugh Jackman’s return to the role immediately generated speculation that Deadpool 3 would end up retconning the events of the film in someway and it’s possible this new photo has revealed when and where. In Logan, Logan, Laura and Charles find themselves guests at the home of Will Munson, a corn farmer in Oklahoma City. It was at the Munson farm where the Logan clone, X-24, found the trio and fatally wounded Charles and killed the entire Munson family.

Given all the plot rumors that state Wade will pluck Logan from the Logan timeline for their adventure in the Deadpool threequel, it seems VERY likely that this might be the point in time from which he plucks him. It’ll be interesting to see when Wade chooses to become an interloper as on one hand, he could pop up, kill X-24 and save Charles Xavier and the Munson family while on the other hand, he could take Logan after the damage has been done, leaving Laura to fend for herself.

  • ‘What If…?’ Director Bryan Andrews Updates Season 3 Release Plans

‘What If…?’ Director Bryan Andrews Updates Season 3 Release Plans

Following the Season 2 finale of What If…? on Disney Plus on December 30th, Marvel released a “Look Into the Future” feature for the third season of the animated series. Though no release date for the new season was given, the feature ended with the promise that the new season was “coming soon.” Soon is, of course, relative and with all the changes behind the scenes at Marvel Studios following Bob Iger’s return as CEO of Disney, release dates have never been more uncertain than they are now. In an interview with Comic Book’s Phase Zero podcast, What If…? director and executive producer Bryan Andrews echoed that sentiment while discussing the potential timeline for the release of Season 3.

While working hard to make no promises he couldn’t keep, Andrews revealed that the best fans could hope for is a late-2024 debut of What If…? Season 3. “They move stuff around, said Andrews of Marvel Studios. Every time I thought it was like, ‘Oh, it’s going to be this!’ It’s like, ‘It’s going to move a little bit!’ So, even I would hate to say something and have people’s hopes come up and then have them be dashed because of the beast of production and when things move around,” he explained. “I thought that it could come out at the end of the year in 2024 possibly, but that would be tight. There’s some other group of people that are masterminding when things [release] and they’re moving things on the board, and I don’t know where we exist on that at this moment.”

So while it’s entirely possible that Marvel Studios rolls What If…? out in 2024, it was not listed on the slate sent out to press in late 2023. However, as Andrews explained, the slate is only the slate until it isn’t and fans should start getting used to the idea that dance.

  • Daisy Ridley’s Star Wars Film Still Looks to Be on Track for 2026 Release

Daisy Ridley’s Star Wars Film Still Looks to Be on Track for 2026 Release

During Star Wars Celebration 2023, a new film starring Daisy Ridley and directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy was announced. Set 15 years after The Rise of Skywalker, the film is set to be the first project set in The New Jedi Order era of the Star Wars timeline. Originally developed by Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson, Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight took the reigns on the project in March 2023. While there was originally some discussion about the film hitting theaters in 2025, recent shifts to Disney’s theatrical slate removed the December 2025 date from the calendar. Still, there was some belief that Lucasfilm wanted the new Rey-centric film to be the first Star Wars film in theaters since 2019.

I know the storyline for one film. That’s not to say that that’s all it is, but that’s what I was told about. And I imagine it will be the next film, I think. I mean, again, I don’t know, post strikes and everything, how quickly everything will start up again. But yes, so far, I know the story of one film and I think people will be very excited.

-Daisy Ridley on the Rey-centric New Jedi Order era film

Those hopes were dashed when Lucasfilm announced that the Jon Favreau-directed The Mandalorian and Grogu would be the studio’s next theatrical release. It seems that bit of news set some folks on a path to believe some apparent disinformation that began to be spread which culminated in a rumor that the Rey film was in trouble and that Knight had walked away from the project. Now, two sources have independently reported that the rumors are unfounded and given some positive updates on the film.

io9’s Germain Lussier first reported that a source at Lucasfilm denied the rumors and stated that Knight was currently working on a new draft of the project. Later, Jeff “The Insneider” Sneider stated that not only was the film doing fine but that he expected it to be Lucasfilm’s 2nd 2026 film, hitting theaters on December 18th.

Ridley has always been a popular target for misogynistic fans so it’s no surprise that any and all negative, unsupported rumors would circulate quickly online. With nearly 3 years until the potential release of the New Jedi Order film, there’s plenty of time for the project to come together and be the first chapter of stories on an all-new part of the Star Wars timeline.
