  • ‘X-Men ’97’ Episode Count, Tentative Release Date Revealed

‘X-Men ’97’ Episode Count, Tentative Release Date Revealed

One of the biggest revelations from the first ever Disney Plus day was the revival of one of Marvel’s most beloved animated series, X-Men, which ran for 76 episodes over 5 season from 1992-1997. The new series, X-Men ’97, will see the return of not only many members of the original voice cast, but also many of the original creatives behind the show.

Two of those creatives, consulting producers Erica and Julia Lewald, recently discussed the revival in an interview with YouTuber Justin Underwood and gave some insight into the new season’s episode count and when fans can expect to see it on Disney Plus.

I believe they’re looking at 10 episodes for the first season that’s going to come out mid-next year. They’re starting it soon after ours ended…”Where is [Professor X?]”

    Eric Lewald

A mid-2023 debut it is! It’s also great to get confirmation that the series will pick up right where it left off as Lewald’s comments are in reference to the ending of the original series, which saw a badly injured Charles Xavier leave Earth with Shi’ar Empress, Lilandra Neramani. According to Lewald, the new season will start there and “bulld off that.”

The animated series represents the first X-Men content produced by Marvel Studios since the Fox merger and just the tip of the iceberg of the studio’s plans for the huge roster of characters.

  • ‘Star Wars Racers’: Podracing Deserves a Disney+ Series

‘Star Wars Racers’: Podracing Deserves a Disney+ Series

The fifth episode of The Book of Boba Fett gave us a nostalgia-filled ride down memory lane to the prequel era. The Mandalorian got a new N-1 Starfighter that he took out for a quick test drive. What stood out was that we revisited the race track from The Phantom Menace, where a young Anakin took on podracers like Sebulba and Ben Quadinaros. While watching this sequence, I thought back to loving the sequence and how I ended up playing hours of Star Wars Racers on the Nintendo 64. It made me wonder how Lucasfilm still hasn’t announced a Disney+ series yet. So, here’s my pitch so that we can soon make our return to the world of podracing.

While Episode 1 mainly focused on the Tatooine racetrack, the game took us on a cross-galaxy tour exploring some of the most dangerous race tracks a podracer has to face, may it be on Malastare, Theron, or even Cantonica. So, a Disney+ series could explore a different race track with each episode, as the danger continues to grow with each new track. not only do we get to explore parts of the galaxy we haven’t seen in live-action yet, but it can also build up tension as you never know which racer might make it out alive.

Speaking of, while there’s a risk of losing your favorite character at any point in the race, it adds a similar element that The Suicide Squad toyed with as you never know just who might make it out alive. Imagine we get introduced to an interesting set of characters, each with their arcs only for a wrong turn to instantly end their story. It would not only cement the dangers to the drivers, but also the viewer. The prequel film did give us explosions but most of the racers got out pretty unscathed.

Imagine the story of a young hotshot racer, who has always dreamed of his time as part of the pod racers. Suddenly, he lucked out as they suddenly needed a new driver and he took his opportunity. Surprised by the fact that no one else would jump at the opportunity, he slowly learns just how dangerous the races truly are. The only thing keeping him moving forward is a promise he made a long time ago that he refuses to give up on. Perhaps it’s exactly the thing he needs to keep going no matter what heads his way.

He makes friends along the way, an unrelenting rival, and witnesses the galaxy like never before. Maybe throw in some Speed Racer-like conspiracy, as fixed games are dragging down his chances of making it to the top but he makes some unlikely allies that may be the key to his success. While the story may be disconnected from the other shows, it would offer some fun distracting that helps further establish the galaxy with locations that we may end up visiting in other stories. It’s just time to finally bring podracing back Lucasfilm.

  • Marvel Shares First Look at ‘Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur’s The Beyonder

Marvel Shares First Look at ‘Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur’s The Beyonder

We’ve been quite focused on Marvel’s future on Disney+, but there are still some smaller projects that have been in some kind of development for some time. Among them, is Disney’s animated series all about Lunella, who is better known as Moon Girl to comic readers. She will be joined by Devil Dinosaur in an upcoming animated series simply titled Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur. There’s been a surprising drought of information on the project, but luckily Marvel released a look at the supporting cast, which includes our first look at the series’ take on The Beyonder.

The designs are great, and it’ll definitely be an exciting prospect to watch once it finally premieres. The Beyonder got a really interesting design for the series, and it’ll be interesting to see how they tackle his character. Those rollerblades are also telling me I’ll definitely enjoy Pops once he is on screen. The series added an incredible talent which includes Alfred Woodard, Diamond White, and Laurence Fishburne, who will tackle the role of the previously mentioned The Beyonder.

The visual style looks promising and looking forward to seeing these characters in action, especially with how dynamic they look. It’s uncertain if Marvel Studios had any kind of involvement with the project as they took over Marvel TV, but luckily the project continued production without an issue and it’s still on its way to release soon.

  • IMAX Hosting Early ‘The Batman’ Fan Screenings

IMAX Hosting Early ‘The Batman’ Fan Screenings

Want to see The Batman a few days early? Well, it seems that IMAX will be hosting a few early fan screenings of the upcoming film that’ll premiere on March 1st rather than the actual March 4th premier. The tickets will go online tomorrow and it looks like it’ll potentially give us our first look at just how popular the upcoming film will be, which currently is predicted to make at least $300M+ at the international box office over its opening weekend. Plus, it’s great for fans getting the chance to see it early that have already been patiently waiting for the Dark Knight’s return to theaters.

It’s great to see the opportunity being offered, though it’s not specified yet where and when these will be made available. As such, we might have to count on quite a waiting list trying to access any tickets once they are made available. Robert Pattinson takes on the role of the Caped Crusader and the trailers are promising a darker take on the character we’ve seen on screen so far, mostly has he has given in to his darkest desires. It’ll be interesting to see just how Matt Reeves realizes his take on the character, but hopefully, people won’t start spoiling after the screening’s release.

  • ‘Spider-Man No Way Home’ Heading to Starz “Over the Next 6 Months”

‘Spider-Man No Way Home’ Heading to Starz “Over the Next 6 Months”

Spider-Man: No Way Home has just dominated the international box office, and eyes are already on when it might find its way into our homes. It turns out, the big winner might end up being Starz, as Deadline unveils in an interview with its CEO Jeffrey Hirsch that it’ll release on the service sometime “over the next six months.” So, we can expect its release sooner rather than later, as they aim to utilize big-name projects to grow their original offerings as well by creating strong viewership retention.

Ours is a retention game, not an acquisition game. Lining up content week to week, 52 weeks a year. Seeking to move our core audience from one show to the next.

    Jeffrey Hirsch

It’s a smart strategy, which Netflix has also utilized when offering their originals based on existing IPs. Their plan makes sense, as it focuses on finding crossover between their target audiences between projects, and no project had a wide acceptance like Spider-Man: No Way Home. So, it’s one of the biggest films to get your hands on right now, especially with those interested in watching it again once it’s available at home. It would be interesting to see how big the film will be once it gets a home release, especially with the promise of over 100 minutes of additional content.

  • Jeremy Renner and Brie Larson Developing Documentary Series for Disney+

Jeremy Renner and Brie Larson Developing Documentary Series for Disney+

Disney+ has been busy expanding its streaming service filmography In addition to the usual Marvel and Star Wars fair, they’ve started exploring other well-known franchises to add cult-classic and popular franchises that have been dormant for years. Not just that, they’ve also continued to build a repertoire of documentary series featuring big named stars. It looks like they are adding some MArvel veterans to that list, as it’s been revealed during the Television Critics Association, as shared by Alex Zalben on Twitter.

Brie Larson is directing a series titled Growing Up that explores what it’s like to grow up. Throughout ten episodes, we join various people between the ages of 18 to 22 years, as they share their experiences growing up. With the help of some creative “cinematic reenactments,” we’ll get to witness those events that they share. Jeremy Renner has a very different adventure ahead of him, as in a four-part series titled Rennervations – nice pun – he’ll work with communities to rebuild purpose-built vehicles to help their local needs.

They sound like fun ideas, and the talent will definitely have some fun with these projects as a way to explore things they love while taking a break from the massive Hollywood productions they usually are busy with.

  • Rita Ora Joins ‘Beauty and the Beast’ Prequel Series

Rita Ora Joins ‘Beauty and the Beast’ Prequel Series

There’s no stopping Disney+ from adding talent after talent for their upcoming The Beauty and the Beast prequel that explores the time of Luke Evans‘ Gaston and Josh Gad‘s LeFou before they entered Belle’s story. Deadline just broke the news that they have also added pop star Rita Ora, who many know for her work on songs like Your Song and Anywhere, who will take on the role of a fugitive with a strange ability. Her dark secret may turn the kingdom upside down.

The project has been developed by Gad, who also has writing credit and is showrunning the project alongside Once Upon a Time creators Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz. Currently, the pilot episode will be directed by Eclipsed‘s Liesl Tommy but there’s no word who might tackle the rest of the eight episodes of the musical series. As they are building upon the musical whimsy of the original, it makes sense to add a talent like Rita Ora who can add something to the project.

We know quite a bit about the plot, as Gaston and LeFou set out to help his step-sister Tilly as they are cast out into quite the adventure. Details naturally are kept under wraps, but it does sound like a promising fun project, even if it’ll be curious to see if the show tries to redeem Gaston as a character in some way.

  • Super Bowl LVI to Feature First Look at Amazon’s ‘Lord of the Rings’

Super Bowl LVI to Feature First Look at Amazon’s ‘Lord of the Rings’

This Sunday’s Super Bowl LVI will feature the first teaser for Amazon Prime’s upcoming Lord of the Rings streaming series, the most expensive show ever produced with a budget of $465M. The series, which will premier this fall, is set during Middle-earth’s second age (well before the timeline of either the Hobbit or Lord of the Rings films) and will focus on the rise to power of the evil Sauron. A previously released synopsis detailed what to expect.

Amazon Studios’ forthcoming series brings to screens for the very first time the heroic legends of the fabled Second Age of Middle-earth’s history. This epic drama is set thousands of years before the events of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, and will take viewers back to an era in which great powers were forged, kingdoms rose to glory and fell to ruin, unlikely heroes were tested, hope hung by the finest of threads, and the greatest villain that ever flowed from Tolkien’s pen threatened to cover all the world in darkness. Beginning in a time of relative peace, the series follows an ensemble cast of characters, both familiar and new, as they confront the long-feared re-emergence of evil to Middle-earth. From the darkest depths of the Misty Mountains, to the majestic forests of the elf-capital of Lindon, to the breathtaking island kingdom of Númenor, to the furthest reaches of the map, these kingdoms and characters will carve out legacies that live on long after they are gone.

Amazon began marketing the streamer last week with a series of 20+ posters that teased the main characters, including one clad in black armor and sporting a nasty looking gauntlet who fans have theorized might be the Dark Lord Morgoth, the source of evil in Middle-earth. Hopefully the new teaser sheds some light on this and other mysteries about the show.

Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power will debut with an 8-episode first season this September and production has already begun on a second season of the series.

  • Disney+’s ‘National Treasure’ Adds Catherine Zeta-Jones

Disney+’s ‘National Treasure’ Adds Catherine Zeta-Jones

the upcoming spinoff of the popular National Treasure films has found its new co-lead in Catherine Zeta-Jones. She will star opposite Lisette Alexis, who was cast back in October after her breakout role in Total Eclipse. Jerry Bruckheimer returns to executive produce the project with Jon Turteltaub set to direct, as well as Marianne and Cormac Wibberley set to write the series. It won’t be a direct adaptation of the original film series and there’s no word we should expect familiar faces to make an appearance.

The story focused on Alexis‘ Jess, who is a dreamer hoping to find answers on her family and embarks on an adventure that will lead her to uncover a lost Pan-American treasure – wouldn’t be a National Treasure film without one. Zeta-Jones will take on the role of Billie, who will race for the same treasure, as it not only has a monetary value but also a deeper connection to the character, who grew to become a black market specialist after growing up penniless.

She will join additional series regulars Zuri Reed, Jake Austin Walker, Jordan Rodrigues, Antonio Cipriano, and Lyndon Smith. Production is currently eyeing a start this month in Baton Rouge. It’ll be interesting to see how they tackle the franchise’s overall atmosphere and Indiana Jones-inspired adventure atmosphere.
