RUMOR: ‘Titans’ Season 4 May Feature Lex Luthor

Here’s a rather curious rumor making the rounds, as it seems that a new rumor might be pointing to Lex Luthor potentially joining the upcoming fourth season of Titans. The series is no stranger to using familiar faces from across DC history, but it had a habit of focusing primarily on its ties to Batman’s mythology. Well, it seems they are finally going to explore Superman a bit more, as The Illuminerdi has hinted that the show might be adding Lex Luthor in an unknown role.

His addition does make sense considering the show heavily features Superboy, whose DNA is a mix of Superman and the iconic DC villain. So, an eventual confrontation between the two would carry a lot of emotional weight. Their take on Scarecrow was a far departure from what people are used to. It isn’t the first time we’ve seen the character join a live-action DC show, as Jon Cryer recently brought the character to life.

It’s a bit confusing how exactly Titans approaches its various characters, as some big names have been kept in the shadows. The Joker wasn’t even truly featured on screen in the last season outside of his laugh and some hints as they adapted Death in the Family. We’ll see how they approach this big-name character in the upcoming season if he truly makes an appearance.

  • BREAKING: Saul Zaentz Co. Looking for a Buyer of ‘Lord of the Rings’ and ‘The Hobbit’s Film and Gaming Rights

BREAKING: Saul Zaentz Co. Looking for a Buyer of ‘Lord of the Rings’ and ‘The Hobbit’s Film and Gaming Rights

Well, Hollywood is going to turn into a bidding war for the rights of Middle Earth, as Saul Zaentz Co. has decided to sell their Tolkien holdings. As such, it means the movie, merchandising, gaming and live events rights to his properties will go on sale. ACF Investment Bank is currently handling the sale with an estimated $2 billion as its current predicted value. The timing of course comes hot off the heels as Amazon started promoting their upcoming original series Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. Amazon currently leading the pack on purchasing the rights, which is fitting given their current work.

It’s quite the sell if any of the major names currently can get their hands on it. Netflix has been hunting franchise after franchise to create their own extended IP library. So, one of the most iconic fantasy franchises will definitely be on their radar yet given the close relationship, Amazon seems like the likeliest buyer.

If you’re wondering why Warner Bros. isn’t involved, the rights returned to Zaentz Co. last year, as the rights ran out for not producing any projects involving the Tolkien books. It seems that the overall interest in developing more projects had sold the company on selling the rights, especially as Amazon made a deal directly with the Tolkien estate for their series.

  • ‘The Power of the Dog’s Kodi Smit-McPhee Passed on Playing ‘Kraven the Hunter’s Chameleon

‘The Power of the Dog’s Kodi Smit-McPhee Passed on Playing ‘Kraven the Hunter’s Chameleon

It looks like today’s a day all in the name of Sony’s upcoming Spider-Man spinoff, Kraven the Hunter. Not only did Russell Crowe join the production, but we also got a confirmation that the rumor of actress Jodie Turner-Smith joining the production was sadly untrue. Now, it seems that an “almost” casting was revealed, as Jeff Sneider shared the news that Kodi Smit-McPhee has seemingly passed on the role of Chameleon, who was rumored to appear in the film back in June. It seems that it was due to scheduling conflicts that he couldn’t further pursue the role.

It sadly happens quite frequently that some actors can’t tackle various roles due to projects overlapping. We’ll see if we get an announcement soon about who ended up taking the role. The character also is a fitting addition, as the initial article teased that most of the cast will consist of the titular character’s family. Well, Chameleon is actually his half-brother named Dmitri Smerdyakov. It’ll be interesting to see if he might end up as the main antagonist of the story, as both brothers end up in an ongoing conflict. We’ll see if we get more news in the near future.

  • Jodie Turner-Smith Has NOT Joined ‘Kraven the Hunter’ as Calypso

Jodie Turner-Smith Has NOT Joined ‘Kraven the Hunter’ as Calypso

It was back in July when first rumors made their way online that actress Jodie Turner-Smith would take on the role of Calypso Ezil in Sony’s upcoming Spider-Man spinoff, Kraven the Hunter. It turns out those rumors were not true, as The Hollywood Reporter’s Borys Kit confirmed that she has not joined the cast after running the story of Russell Crowe joining the project. It’s uncertain if they are still actively looking to find an actress to take on the role of Calypso, but it was pointed out most of the parts will consist of Kraven’s extended family.

Calypso is a voodoo priestess who had a lot of joy in manipulating Kraven and was one of the causes that led to his eventual suicide. Her powers were derived from sacrificing her younger sister which gave her the ability to control Curt Conners. She was one of the few people that almost managed to kill Spider-Man, but he managed to survive and take her out. Yet, she was seemingly dead until she would make a return in trying to resurrect Kraven and ended up facing off against Daredevil.

  • ‘Peacemaker’ Episode 7 Primer

    ‘Peacemaker’ Episode 7 Primer

It seems like just a week ago we got the first few episodes of Peacemaker, featuring the return of John Cena as the titular character. As we enter this new week, we grow closer and closer to the finale with the penultimate episode set to premiere tomorrow on HBO Max. Throughout this season, we’ve seen the secrets of Project Butterfly unravel and Murn\ come clean about his true identity… and that there’s a giant cow?!

Picking up directly after the cliffhanger ending of ‘Monkey Dory’, the last episode opened with Murn confronting Adebayo in the streets following her learning he is one of the butterflies, but not before Harcourt seemingly pulls up the rescue. Harcourt explains that she figured it out early on, realizing Murn took a hell of a hit at the Goff residence with little damage. Murn reveals that the butterflies were initially here peacefully before the queen and others began planning ulterior motives, plotting world domination. Murn is a defector who inhabited the past mercenaries’ bodies to put a stop to them and save the earth. He reveals the pain he wakes up with daily, living with Murn’s memories of his past heinous actions.

The previous episode also saw Detective Song and Fitzgibbons go over Locke’s head in order to get a warrant to arrest Peacemaker and free Auggie Smith. Mission accomplished, as the White Dragon was freed and the Evergreen police department readies to lead an assault on Peacemaker’s trailer. Learning of this at the very last second, Peacemaker and Vigilante escape through the skylight with Eagly and Goff, climbing through trees to evade the cops. Vigilante ends up falling, freeing an encased Goff, who flew into the mouth of Detective Song and took over her body.

Vigilante and Peacemaker escape through the woods, with Eagly swooping down and taking out cop after cop. The two of them are then aided by Locke, who killed the remaining cops and left a getaway vehicle for the duo at the edge of the woods, pinning the crimes on an assailant vaguely similar to the Hamburglar.

New Butterfly Sophie Song returned to the police station and used their equipment to reach out to the others, summoning them all to Evergreen. The Butterflies converged on a hill near the station, exiting their ships and following Goff inside to which ‘Monster’ by Reckless Love plays over the butterflies swarming the police station, inhabiting all within.

The final moments saw Peacemaker’s faux diary read to the country as he’s framed for countless murders, as the secret of the butterflies remains as a conspiracy to the world. As Peacemaker deals with this, the White Dragon suits up as his followers have rallied to his side, and just like that it seems just about everyone is after Peacemaker.

  • Anthony Ramos Joins Marvel Studios’ ‘Ironheart’, Large MCU Role Teased

Anthony Ramos Joins Marvel Studios’ ‘Ironheart’, Large MCU Role Teased

One of Marvel Studios’ most under-the-radar new projects has finally begun adding to it’s cast, and it’s starting off with a strong addition. Deadline is reporting that Anthony Ramos, frequent Lin-Manuel Miranda collaborator and star of both In the Heights and Hamilton, has joined the cast of Ironheart in an undisclosed role. Sources claim the part will be reminiscent of Jonathan Majors‘ participation in Loki, with an appearance in a Disney+ series setting Ramos up for an even larger role in the MCU’s future. Whoever his character may end up being, it will only add to the actor’s promising future in the industry. Once a supporting player in A Star is Born, the performer has also been tapped as a lead in the next Transformers film.

Ramos joins a cast that so far only includes Dominique Thorne in the titular role. First officially announced at Disney’s 2020 Investor’s Day presentation, the live-action show will follow the life of a genius, teenage MIT student Riri Williams as she invents her own high-tech suit of armor and follows in Tony Stark’s footsteps. It’s unknown when the character’s solo series will hit the small screen, but fans won’t have to wait too long for her to make a grand debut in the MCU. Reports indicate that Williams will make her first appearance in November when Black Panther: Wakanda Forever hits theaters. Musician and poet Chinaka Hodge has been tapped to serve as the head writer for Ironheart, which will likely drop sometime after Disney+ premieres Moon Knight, She-Hulk, and Ms. Marvel.

  • Margot Robbie’s ‘Barbie’ Film Adds America Ferrera

Margot Robbie’s ‘Barbie’ Film Adds America Ferrera

Margot Robbie has found her co-star for the upcoming Barbie film, as Deadline has just announced that America Ferrera has joined the production that also features Ryan Gosling. Greta Gerwig is hired to direct the film that’ll bring the classic doll toy to life on the silver screen. There was no word what her role is, as Warner Bros. continues to keep the production’s plot a secret but there are teases it won’t be the typical story you might expect featuring a plastic doll.

It’s being produced under LuckyChap Entertainments with Robbie also having a producing role. Mattel’s Robbie Brenner is also involved alongside Heyday Films’ David Heyman. Ferrera has been quite busy, as she is currently set to make her feature directorial debut with an adaptation of I Am Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter. She also recently worked on a few episodes of Netflix’s Latinx dramedy Gentefied.

It’ll be interesting to see how they tackle a project focused on Barbie, as many adaptations on popular toy lines have taken a strong meta-narrative direction. Great Gerwig‘s involvement certainly is a promising addition that may push the project into a new direction that will certainly surprise us. So, we’ll have to wait and see once production finally starts.

  • Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s ‘Kraven the Hunter’ Adds Russell Crowe

Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s ‘Kraven the Hunter’ Adds Russell Crowe

The upcoming Kraven the Hunter film is starting to prepare for production, as it is currently eyeing a release on January 13th of 2023. As such, it seems the production has finally started expanding its cast and the first to join is no other than Maximus himself, Russell Crowe. His role is still unannounced, but it seems that most of the cast will consist of Kraven’s family members, which might flesh out the character in curious ways. It may be a hint that we’ll explore most of the character’s childhood and find out what turned him into the greatest hunter there ever was.

J.C. Chandor will direct the upcoming film that is based on a screenplay by Art Marcum, Matt Holloway, and Richard Wenk. Long-time Spider-Man producer Avi Arad is also returning alongside Matt Tolmach. The details still remain uncertain about the project and just how they aim to tackle the character’s origin story. It continues Sony’s focus on expanding Spider-Man‘s franchise without the titular wall-crawler. So, who knows if they might embrace a crossover with the Sinister Six.

We’re still awaiting the release of Morbius which has been confusing viewers on its continuity due to the trailer including references from across the Spider-Man franchises. They have also recently started work on a Madame Web-focused film, which is still a curious addition to their offerings. Though, it is the same company that wanted to explore an Aunt May origin story.

  • New ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ Artwork Teases Green Goblin Joining the Final Fight Earlier

New ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ Artwork Teases Green Goblin Joining the Final Fight Earlier

Spider-Man: No Way Home has been all the rage since its release back in December. It’s no wonder given how the nostalgia-filled project managed to cement an emotional strong film that was made for fans, newcomers, and anyone in between. Illustrator Marek Okon took to Twitter to share some of the artwork realizing the events from the film with his latest focusing on the finale featuring all three Spider-Men facing off against some familiar foes.

The artwork looks great and it’s a nice touch of seeing all three versions of the iconic hero swinging side-by-side into battle. The curious addition is that the Green Goblin may have originally had a bigger role earlier in the climax, as he is seen here while Elektro and Sandman are still active. It’s difficult to make out but he also may have kept his original mask as well. In the film, he ends up joining at a later time after everyone else has been taken down already.

The illustrator also shared some artwork featuring the Mirror Dimension, which was Doctor Strange’s way of keeping Peter Parker from running away with the Deus Ex Machina that could’ve sent the villains home. It gave us some great visuals throughout their confrontation and it seems there were some additional ideas like using a small town as the backdrop.

It’s always impressive to see the many ways films are interpreted early on before they finalize designs or the direction. Still, the backdrops remained mostly unchanged and still remain as some of the most memorable within the MCU’s legacy. It’s still surprising to think that a rebuilt Statue of Liberty would make for such an effective background.

  • REVIEW: ‘The Book of Boba Fett’ Chapter 7 – In The Name of Honor

REVIEW: ‘The Book of Boba Fett’ Chapter 7 – In The Name of Honor

The Book of Boba Fett finale has arrived and I continue to struggle really getting a feeling for this series. We’ve spent so much time with Din Djarin in the last two episodes that it feels somewhat disconnected from its titular character. He does get moments to shine and Temuera Morrison made me like this once silent character quite a bit, but he never really gets long enough to fully realize an arc that wasn’t overshadowed by development hinted at in flashbacks. The Mandalorian’s open plotlines completely took over the series that it could’ve gone with a different title and I may have an easier time with digesting it. Yet, the finale left me with joy, confusion, and uncertainty about the various spinoffs in development from The Mandalorian.

I will jump into quite a few spoilers from the episode, as avoiding them would make it difficult to discuss the many aspects of this episode. So, only continue reading at your own risk if you haven’t seen the episode yet.

So, the strongest moments of the series from an emotional standpoint are primarily given to Din once again. Grogu made the decision we all kind of saw coming, but him jumping into his arms probably broke me way more than I ever thought it would. Pascal manages to sell the emotions once again even as he continues to keep the helmet on at all times – making Boba’s love of taking it off a funny contrast. The little guy actually gets some character development, as he easily utilizes his powers now that he is united with his father figure once again, which makes you wonder if Luke counted on it to some degree. I do wish we had some time with him looking back on letting the promising student leave, but the show doesn’t really give us much outside of R2D2 flying the X-Wing.

I think the highlight of the episode was seeing Boba and Din fighting alongside each other, especially as they took flight with their jetpacks early on. They did end up getting overrun, which was a little annoying but made sense given just how many people they were facing. It also gave the Freetown people a chance to come in and confirm they are here to help. I confess I didn’t care much for the Mods and was surprised they got as much focus as they did in the episode. Krrsantan, however, I was really worried about losing, as the character just got introduced in live-action and didn’t want them to just kill him off but alas he lives to see another day.

Can’t say the same about Cad Bane. Their first confrontation was great, as Bane started toying with him and just outright confirming what we all suspected with the Tusken Raiders. He’s a strong presence and the show knows how to make use of him, but it made me wish he was actually present throughout way more. Yes, the Pykes are technically the actual villains but did anyone really care when their leader was taken out? Outside of making Fennec Shand look awesome, it was more a way to close some loose ends, which highlighted just how disconnected they were from the actual narrative arc.

And then, in their final confrontation, Fett gets his ass handed to him after calling Bane an old man. It was a funny bit of irony considering Morrison‘s age, but it didn’t quite feel like a duel but rather a one-sided confrontation until our titular hero got his second wind. I will say that him defeating Bane with his Raider stick from earlier in the episode was great, it was such a shame they just introduced the character into live-action to kill him off the next episode. There are theories he may have survived, as his “you’re a killer” line was the core aspect of this conflict but it doesn’t add much to either character.

We finally got the payoff of Boba riding the Rancor. Was a great moment, especially love the shot of him on top, and the sequences were well-done if you consider that it’s a TV series. The Prequel-inspired droids added that extra level of detail and made the Pykes an actual threat outside of their numbers. I do wish they just embraced the original ones from the films, but the larger ones make sense given that it’s about showing off the Rancor. I still wish though that we spent time between Boba building a relationship with his newly acquired pet to make that pay-off sink in even better.

Speaking of, that kind of summarizes my thoughts on the finale. There are strong moments throughout but nothing feels very earned outside of Din’s arc given the least two episodes and two seasons of an entire show were dedicated to it. His reunion with Grogu is sweet but will be quite confusing for viewers of Season 3 that skipped on Boba Fett thinking it’s just a separate storyline. Some of the action was a bit wonky, even if I enjoyed the concept of Fett riding the beast – and even a tease of Din trying which might be another hint at his role within Mandalorian mythology – but it’s more spectacle.

I wanted to see Boba confront the Pykes on the death of those that were his family. Even one or two of them returning to give a glimpse of hope for the character would’ve gone a long way to avoid the trope that it already was. Offer us a hint that them stopping the Spice trade actually made a difference, cause we never really learn how it affects Tatooine’s climate. Water springing from a well that has been dry for ages would add so much more to this story that was stockpiled with cameos and a sincere lack of focus.

Even the post-credit sequence had me scratching my head. We didn’t get a clear shot of Cobb Vanth in the Bacta tank – who knew that was a set-up all this time – but a clear hint he’ll be revived similar to Shand. So, that part of the flashback did get paid off here finally, but it still leaves you with questions. It seemingly is hinting that he might take over the role that Boba is currently holding, but there’s no clear indication of where his character is going. He seems likely to return for a future Mandalorian episode, but a second season primarily focused on Boba would really help this series in my opinion. I didn’t hate it, I quite enjoyed my time with it but it’s less a book and rather a footnote of the Star Wars mythos.
