  • A New Hero Takes on the Iron Fist Mantle in February

A New Hero Takes on the Iron Fist Mantle in February

On Thursday, Marvel revealed a teaser for Iron Fist showing Danny Rand giving up the Iron Fist costume. The teaser simply said, “Iron Fist No More. February 2022.” Today, the comic book giant has announced writer Alyssa Wong and artist Michael YG will debut a new Iron Fist this February. Wong, of course, is coming off the critically-acclaimed Doctor Aphra, while YG will make his Marvel Comics debut with Iron Fist.

The new series consists of five issues and sees the legendary mantle of Iron Fist get passed on to a new hero in a “revolutionary transformation.” Per Marvel, fans can expect an epic hero’s journey in true Marvel fashion as this new, mysterious Iron Fist unlocks “long-hidden secrets behind the history of his ancient powers.” He’ll also be forced to confront a threat only he is able to defeat.

After giving up his power to save the world earlier this year in IRON FIST: HEART OF THE DRAGONDanny Rand believes he’s seen the last of the Iron Fist. But when demons begin to attack cities around the world, a new hero appears, hands blazing with the Chi of Shou-Lao the Undying! Who is this new Iron Fist? And does his power really come from the Dragon of K’un-Lun… Or from something far more sinister? Fans will have to wait until the first issue to discover his identity but they can see him now on the stunning cover for IRON FIST #1 showcasing a brand-new costume design by superstar artist Jim Cheung!

The first issue of Iron Fist #1 will hit shelves on Feb. 16, 2022. It’s written by Alyssa Wong with art by Michael YG. It also features a cover by Jim Cheung.

  • ‘Lightyear’ Teaser Soars to 83 Million Views in 24 Hours, Ahead of ‘Eternals’

‘Lightyear’ Teaser Soars to 83 Million Views in 24 Hours, Ahead of ‘Eternals’

Disney and Pixar’s Lightyear looks ready to soar to new heights. On Wednesday, Disney and Pixar unleashed the official first teaser for Lightyear, giving fans a small glimpse of what to expect from the Chris Evans-voiced film. In a surprising move, though, the teaser managed to outperform similar teasers for some of the biggest titles, including Marvel Studios’ Eternals.

After 24 hours, Lightyear is said to have raked in 83 million views. That’s well ahead of Toy Story 4, which brought in 62 million views in the 24-hours following its teaser trailer, as well as Soul (32 million) and Luca (28 million). More impressively, however, that number is also high enough to just slightly beat out Marvel Studios’ Eternals, which saw 77 million global views from its first trailer at the end of May. At the time, that number was enough to give Eternals‘ trailer the title of most-watched for a Disney-Marvel movie during the pandemic.

The only Pixar movie to pull in more views is Incredibles 2. The teaser for that sequel unsurprisingly brought in 114 million views during its first 24-hours.

Lightyear flies into theaters on June 17, 2022.

  • ‘Uncharted’ Creator Amy Hennig is Working on AAA Marvel Game

‘Uncharted’ Creator Amy Hennig is Working on AAA Marvel Game

The Marvel brand may have been dominating the box office for a decade now but the brand has only begun making its mark in next-gen gaming within the past few years. Playstation’s Spider-Man set the gaming world on fire when it came out a few years ago. This month’s Guardians of the Galaxy is garnering very positive reviews. While not as well-received, even the Avengers game had its moments. Wolverine and Midnight Suns are big games being developed on the horizon.

Deadline is reporting that Marvel Entertainment is partnering with Skydance’s new interactive studio New Media for a new blockbuster game. Helmed by Uncharted creator and video game legend Amy Hennig, the game is set to be a “narrative-driven, blockbuster action-adventure game, featuring a completely original story and take on the Marvel Universe.” According to Hennig:

I can’t imagine a better partner than Marvel for our first game. The Marvel Universe epitomizes all the action, mystery and thrills of the pulp adventure genre that I adore and lends itself perfectly to an interactive experience. It’s an honor to be able to tell an original story with all the humanity, complexity, and humor that makes Marvel characters so enduring and to enable our players to embody these heroes that they love.

Hennig taking the reigns of this project should be enough to get any Marvel gaming fan excited. Hennig’s work on the Uncharted franchise and the cult-classic Legacy of Kain games is nothing short of incredible. As to what property Hennig’s team is adapting, it’s anyone’s guess. Going by the idea of something completely original, the door is pretty much wide open.

  • EXCLUSIVE: Character Breakdowns for Netflix’s ‘Beef’ with Steven Yeun

EXCLUSIVE: Character Breakdowns for Netflix’s ‘Beef’ with Steven Yeun

In March, Netflix announced it was developing a comedy-drama series titled Beef starring both Steven Yeun (The Walking Dead, Invincible) and Ali Wong (Baby Cobra, Always be my Maybe). The story centers around two people who allow a road rage incident to burrow into their minds and slowly consume their every thought and action.

Since the show’s announcement, though, details regarding the forthcoming series have been sparse. Until now, at least. We here at Murphy’s Multiverse have character breakdowns for some of the other characters set to appear in the Netflix series.

First up is the role of George. The character is said to be an early 30s-40s Japanese-American Male. He is described as the “chiseled and attractive” husband of Amy, who also happens to be the son of a renowned architect and designer. His character is the type who wears full bicycle gear and rides hundreds of miles every morning while listening to the Tom Ferriss podcast. George also happens to be a ceramicist who makes vases that are hard to sell, but he’s keen to focus on his business after his wife, Amy, sells off her own. This role is that of a series regular.

Next up is June, the daughter of Amy and George. The role calls for a young girl between the ages of 4-6 who is Asian-American. June is described as “adorable” and “shy.” She’s also known to have outbursts when she becomes too frustrated. While she is sweet toward both parents, June has a closer relationship with her father. She also enjoys painting, yoga and eating candy. This role is also that of a series regular.

Then there’s Isaac. The character is a Korean-American male who is between his mid-30’s and late 40’s. Isaac is the cousin of Danny and Paul. He is a bigger guy with the build of a high school or amateur football player. Isaac was recently released from jail after being arrested for illegal-export activities. While he believes in traditional Korean values, he will break the law when needed and justify it as being for his family. The character will appear in 7 out of 10 episodes.

Finally, there’s Fumi. This character is a Japanese-American woman in her 60s. She is the mother of George and Amy’s mother-in-law. Fumi is described as elegant and attractive, and she wears head-to-toe designer clothes. She is also the widow of a renowned architect who has never worked a day in her life. With no job, she spends her time as a doting grandmother and visits her son’s family often. Fumi has high expectations of others, including her son, and prides herself on her artistic taste. The character will appear in 7 out of 10 episodes.

Netflix’s Beef consists of 10 episodes and Lee Sung Jin (Dave, Tuca & Bertie) serves as the showrunner.

  • ‘WandaVision’ Actress Kathryn Hahn Plays Coy on ‘Agatha Harkness’ Spinoff

‘WandaVision’ Actress Kathryn Hahn Plays Coy on ‘Agatha Harkness’ Spinoff

Earlier this month, it was revealed that actress Kathryn Hahn would reprise her role as Agatha Harkness from WandaVision. However, Marvel Studios not only put an Agatha series into development from WandaVision head scribe Jac Schaeffer, but it also confirmed the actress would return for other Marvel Studios films and series.

Hahn, of course, stole the show as Agatha in WandaVision, with many fans questioning if and when the actress would return in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. If fans are to believe Hahn regarding Agatha’s return, though, nothing looks to be set in stone. Marvel Studios, on the other hand, clearly has plans for her.

While the spinoff is in development, Hahn is opting to play coy regarding her involvement. While walking the carpet for The Shrink Next Door, Hahn was quick to sidestep any questions regarding the project. “I don’t even know if there is such a thing as a WandaVision spinoff, Honey,” she says to the interviewer. “I have to be honest… All I can say is I love Agatha, and as we know, anything can happen with Marvel. So, who knows?”

All episodes of WandaVision are currently streaming on Disney+.

As it stands, the planned Agatha Harkness series is still in development with no release date planned.

  • First Trailer Drops for Fan-Made ‘Spider-Man: Lotus’ Film

First Trailer Drops for Fan-Made ‘Spider-Man: Lotus’ Film

There are many passionate fans out there that have their vision of adapting popular characters or franchises. Some developed their games based on popular franchises, such as the Another Metroid 2 Remake (AM2R) or Pokemon: Uranium. Of course, Marvel and DC comics have also seen countless fans tackle their favorite heroes even if they don’t have the same budget as big-name studios. Still, that should never deter a fan from giving a project a shot to bring his own vision to life.

Among these projects is Gavin J. Konop‘s adaptation titled Spider-Man: Lotus. The passionate fan decided to tackle the story of Spidey still struggling after the death of Gwen Stacy and he starts helping a young kid facing a terminal illness. Inspired by the storyline of The Kid Who Collects Spider-Man, he got a team together to bring this passion project to life. After a long wait, he has now dropped the official trailer.

It’s not officially licensed by Marvel, but it’s meant as a non-profit project all due to the love for the character. The first trailer certainly seems to capture the spirit of everyone’s favorite wall-crawler. It also looks great considering it was most likely made with a shoestring budget. It must be a proud moment for Konop to finally put it out there and it looks quite promising. Here’s looking forward to its Summer 2022 release and a fan bringing a passion project like this to life.

  • ‘John Wick’ Spinoff ‘Ballerina’ Eyeing Ana De Armas

‘John Wick’ Spinoff ‘Ballerina’ Eyeing Ana De Armas

As John Wick is filming its fourth entry with an all-star cast, Lionsgate is ready to start rolling out its upcoming spinoffs. We’ve heard the news about a three-episode miniseries focused on the beginnings of the Continental hotel, but it’s not the only one. Deadline is now reporting that Knives Out and No Time to Die star Ana De Armas is currently being eyed to play a young female assassin in a spinoff titled Ballerina. The character was briefly hinted at in John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum and will act as a jumping-off point for the new entry as she hunts down the people that killed her family.

Lionsgate already has Underworld’s Len Wiseman aboard to direct with a script from Shay Hatten. He wrote up the previously-mentioned Parabellum as well as Zack Snyder‘s Army of the Dead. Long-time John Wick producers Basil Iwanyk, Erica Lee, and Chad Stahelski are also returning for the spinoff. There even seems to be some hope that Keanu Reeves might have a cameo alongside Anjelica Huston.

De Armas has been building up quite the reputation with larger tentpole projects, as she’ll also appear in the Russo brothers’ upcoming Netflix film, The Gray Man, as well as the Marilyn Monroe film, Blonde. So, it was only a matter of time before she spearheaded her own action film, especially hot off the heels of her appearance in No Time To Die.

  • Denis Villeneuve Confirms Most of Pre-Production is Done for 2023’s ‘Dune’ Sequel

Denis Villeneuve Confirms Most of Pre-Production is Done for 2023’s ‘Dune’ Sequel

Denis Villeneuve‘s Dune finally got the sequel announcement with an official release date. Yet, we were quite surprised that it’s already eyeing an October release in 2023. It made us wonder if they already had most of the pre-production ready as they prepare the sequel. Luckily, in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the director confirmed that they already have a script ready and have most of the pre-production done with the work from the initial film.

It’s fantastic news, but it’s also kind of a burden. The good news is that a lot of the work has been done already regarding design, casting, locations and writing. So we’re not starting from scratch. It’s not a long period of time, but I will try to face that challenge because it’s important for me that the audience sees Part Two as soon as possible.

    Denis Villeneuve

Villeneuve is very keen on making sure there’s not a long break between the sequels, which makes it quite interesting that it took this long until we got the official announcement for a sequel. Still, he also goes on to highlight how his approach to his sequel also highlights why he can jump into the sequel.

It’s not a sequel where it’s another episode or another story with the same characters. It actually has direct continuity to the first movie. It’s the second part of the big huge movie that I’m trying to do. So the sooner the better.

    Denis Villeneuve

The approach makes sense, especially given that both parts are technically part of the same story. Part Two would take place exactly at the point where the first one ended. It’s strange they didn’t use the chance to shoot them back to back, as Warner Bros. already was eyeing to expand this franchise. So, why not keep production costs to a minimum and approach it in one massive shoot. We might never know, but it’s good Villeneuve gets to continue his vision of the series.
