  • New ‘Black Adam’ Promo Art Teases a Showdown With Hawkman

New ‘Black Adam’ Promo Art Teases a Showdown With Hawkman

It looks like some more promo art for Black Adam has found its way online highlighting the members of the Justice Society of America. Not only that, but it also highlights Black Adam as part of the team. While he seems like an unlikely candidate to join any kind of team, the new promotional images offer a good look at the members of the team, which we previously saw through Funko Pops that don’t highlight every detail these characters will bring to the table. The images were shared by @DCversio1.

Overall, the costumes look great, and it’ll be interesting to see if we get a full showdown between the heroes with the newfound ally that has his own understanding of what it means to represent justice. ‘One of the promotional material seems to imply that there will be a battle with Hawkman at least.

The visual of having the members be highlighted with diamonds while Black Adam is a lightning bolt highlights that he may be among other heroes, he definitely stands out on his own terms. We see a continued highlight of Doctor Fate’s unique mask that seems split down the middle with one side reflecting order and possibly chaos, something our very own John Sabato has noted in the past. Or, he just took a punch from the almighty wielder of the power of Shazam that left quite a sizeable dent in his helmet.

The introduction of the JSA is also a big moment for DC movies and may highlight there’s more than just the Justice League. We’re still anticipating a trailer that offers us a better look at these heroes in action. Maybe the first trailer teases that very battle for supremacy included in the promo art.

  • Warner Bros. Discovery Has No Plans to Recast ‘The Flash’s Ezra Miller

Warner Bros. Discovery Has No Plans to Recast ‘The Flash’s Ezra Miller

Controversies have been piling on since Ezra Miller‘s escapades in Hawaii have led to them pulling in quite a bit of bad press for Warner Bros. Discovery’s upcoming The Flash film. As they are currently busy restructuring the company, it seemed like they may make some harsh decisions regarding the film and its future, especially as we’ve seen many other actors end up getting replaced due to mounting controversies, such as Mads Mikkelsen taking over for Johnny Depp as Gellert Grindelwald in Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore. Yet, it seems that this won’t happen for The Flash.

In a new piece by Variety, they talk about the fact that if they decided to replace Miller, they’d be forced to reshoot the entire film. They are supposedly in pretty much every scene and it would require magic to find a way to replace them in the film. It’s already at a point where it could be deemed very risky even releasing in theaters given how often the production on The Flash was pushed back with Warner Bros. losing writers and directors at an alarming rate.

Variety points out that it costs way too much money to scrap and to turn a profit the film has to release in theaters. Miller‘s involvement with the before-mentioned Fantastic Beasts was also kept at a minimum, as it was released just as the controversies hit their peak. Yet, it’s a bit more complicated when they are playing the main title role. They already postponed the film, once again, by an entire year, and with a mid-2023 release, there’s quite a lot of time to let the controversy “pass by” as costs simply keep mounting for Warner Bros.

  • Warner Bros. Discovery Interested in ‘Joker’s Todd Phillips as DC Film’s Future Advisor

Warner Bros. Discovery Interested in ‘Joker’s Todd Phillips as DC Film’s Future Advisor

The major shake-ups at Warner Bros. Discovery come as a shock to nobody as it seemed like the company has long been trying to get things together. The newly named CEO, David Zaslav, has been sorting things out swiftly as hes gone out with the old and in with the new. Recent news of Toby Emmerich‘s exit has brought news of another development at WBD. The company has DC as a priority, a brand with an incredible amount of potential that they felt has been squandered in the past few years, and looks to be reaching out to a familiar face for help.

The Hollywood Reporter shared that Zaslav reportedly reached out to co-writer and director of 2019’s Joker film, Todd Phillips, to ask him to get a bit more involved over at DC Entertainment. His film was a resounding hit for the studio, scoring over a billion at the box office, shockingly outgrossing Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker on a $60+ million budget. The role is purely that of an advisory role with Phillips not currently set to serve in an executive role at the studio.

This is a bit of an odd move for the studio to make, while Joker was indeed incredibly profitable for the studio, its not particulary the direction they should be moving in with the brand. It was a story seperate from the mainline DC Extended Universe, creating yet another earth in the ever expanding multiverse within the shared universe. THR even states that while Phillips has quite limited knowledge on the DC Universe, Zaslav and Phillips have reached an understanding on the situation with the current state of DC.

This is an interesting move for Warner Bros. Discovery but not one that could have a great effect on whats to come as if things pan out, it is only an advisory role within DC Entertainment.

  • Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy Set to Replace Toby Emmerich at Warner Bros. Discovery

Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy Set to Replace Toby Emmerich at Warner Bros. Discovery

The past month has seen some major changes happening over in Hollywood, as the recent Warner Bros. merger with Discovery has resulted in quite a few big changes at the company. Zaslav and his team are reportedly very eager to get the DC brand back on track and use it to its fullest potential. It’s a big priority for them and they want to focus on getting big characters like Superman back on the big screen. Yet another change is coming as Tobey Emmerich will no longer serve as chairman for the studio and some new names look to have already been chosen.

The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that with the Emmerich‘s exit, Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy will step into the role to lead the film division at Warner Bros. Zaslav intends to mold the company into something similar to what Bob Iger did over at Disney, and split the company up with multiple labels like Warner Bros, DC Entertainment, and New Line. The move would be something similar to how Disney operates with Marvel Studios, with Kevin Feige leading the charge.

Part of De Luca and Abdy‘s deal will provide them access to producing projects under DC Entertainment and to develop the properties. DC is the studio’s biggest priority right now under the new leadership, looking to craft something similar to the success of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Walter Hamada is still expected to remain in his current role as the president of DC films, but will now be actively reporting to De Luca and Abdy as the new studio heads. Since becoming the head of DC films, Hamada has smoothed things out with the brand with its releases since joining in 2018, with a string of hits like Aquaman and The Suicide Squad.

Emmerich is expected to receive a production deal at the studio following his exit as chairman, so he won’t be going too far.

  • ‘Doctor Strange 2’ Overtakes ‘The Batman’ as 2022’s Highest Domestic Earner

‘Doctor Strange 2’ Overtakes ‘The Batman’ as 2022’s Highest Domestic Earner

While all eyes are on Top Gun: Maverick‘s dominance over theaters, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness still held on tight to the second spot as it has pulled in $16.4M over the weekend. As such, the film has now managed to reach $370M at the domestic box office, which puts it at the top spot as the highest-grossing domestic release of 2022 so far. It has just barely passed The Batman‘s $369M and is currently on its way to passing $400M domestically.

It has now reached $868.7M worldwide after pulling in another 22.9M overseas. It’ll continue to inch its way towards a potential $900M but some predict it could still pull in around $950M. Though with new arrivals like Top Gun and Jurassic World Dominion around the corner, we might see it slow down. Still, its’s 48% drop is actually lower than that of Captain America: Civil War and has shown some surprising legs after the initial harsh drop. It further hints at this film legging out like a horror film.

It’s a considerable development that it legged out as it did, as earlier it seemed like it wasn’t going to hit $900M after that initial drop. While it’s not really possible for it to pass a billion, it’s not a measure of its success if you consider that it’s not even released in some key markets like Russia (for obvious reasons), China, Saudi Arabia, and more. So, it did perform quite well and is pulling through after some made theories on the MCU’s box office draw.

  • The Rock Confirms ‘Black Adam’ Trailer Release Date

The Rock Confirms ‘Black Adam’ Trailer Release Date

The upcoming slate for the DC Extended Universe is quite packed as many major players from the DC Universe are set to arrive in their very own feature films. One of the most exciting upcoming releases is Black Adam, a film that has long been in development, with Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson having been cast in the role for over ten years before. While we haven’t seen a ton from the film yet, it seems that’s all going to change in just a couple of weeks.

The Rock has taken to Instagram to confirm that the first trailer for Black Adam is set to release on June 8th. The film has been hit with multiple delays, most recently moving from July to October 21st. The first official look at the film back came in February when Warner Brothers released a featurette highlighting the upcoming release of 2022, revealing characters like Atom Smasher, Doctor Fate, Hawkman, and Cyclone, but this first trailer should give us a much better idea of what to expect from the film.

The Rock has used social media to promote and give fans a look at his films for a while now, kicking things into the next gear for Black Adam. He revealed that throughout filming he would not sit on the character’s throne until he felt he’d earned the right to sit in such a sacred place for the character.

Black Adam stars Noah Centineo, Aldis Hodge, Sarah Shahi, Quintessa Swindell, and Pierce Brosnan alongside Dwayne Johnson.

  • New Set Video Shows Blue Beetle in Action

New Set Video Shows Blue Beetle in Action

Just yesterday, we got our first look at the fantastic design of Blue Beetle’s first live-action costume. The DC film has been busy filming some action sequences with actor Xolo Mariduena wearing the costume. It looks like that wasn’t all just yet, as the Daily Mail has also shared some new set videos from that same sequence, which gives us a closer look at what the young hero Jaime Reyes is up to.

We theorized that the day shots might be while the young hero is trying his best to get a grip of his abilities. It’s not every day that you have an alien beetle just attached to your spine and giving you abilities that are far beyond your human understanding. Going by the video, it seems that he has accidentally landed in someone’s car, as he jumps out and swiftly apologizes for destroying it.

It’ll be interesting to see if we’ll also spend time with Reyes in school, as we’re seeing a rise in young superheroes trying to balance their school life with acting like a superhero in their off time. Marvel Studios will soon release Ms. Marvel with a young heroine who will tackle the same issue. So, it seems like a new and young generation is about to enter the world of superheroes.

  • Leaked Set Photos Offer First Look at Xolo Mariduena’s Blue Beetle Suit

Leaked Set Photos Offer First Look at Xolo Mariduena’s Blue Beetle Suit

There’s been quite some discourse on the upcoming Blue Beetle film starring Xolo Mariduena as Jaime Reyes. There were many hinting at the suit being one of their best and it looks like a first look has found its way online as two set photos leaked. @NebsGoodtakes has shared the first look at Mariduena onset in the costume. Not only that, but we get one photo without the helmet and another of him wearing it, which shows that they managed to make a version where his nose pretty much vanishes like in the comics.

That is not all, as we also get a shot of him in action, as he is seemingly falling unto a car that is quite damaged after he landed on it. This might be the moment that he learns to use his new abilities, which he is surprisingly trying out during the day.

The costume looks great, and it’s always a nice touch to see it come to life on set. It’s unclear how much they may add to it in post-production, as it is a living suit through the blue beetle attached to his back. The face mask will likely also have a similar effect that we’ve seen with Deadpool and Spider-Man, as they will use it to make him emote more than usually would force the creative team for him to take the mask off regularly. It won’t confirm anything, but it’s definitely a great first look at his design.

  • ‘The Flash’s New Suit Spotted at Licensing Expo

‘The Flash’s New Suit Spotted at Licensing Expo

While we still have quite some time to go before The Flash hits theaters and redefines the DC Extended Universe, a new look at the updated costume has been revealed during the Las Vegas Licensing Expo. Not only do we get a good look at the Flash’s costume in all its glory, but he’s also joined by what will be Sasha Calle‘s Supergirl suit. You can see the shared images below:

Sadly, it doesn’t look like they also have Michael Keaton‘s updated Batman suit at the Expo, but it seems they are focusing on these two pieces. It does look like they have The Batman‘s iconic cycle in the background. Still, it’s great to get a closer look at the design that moves away from the armored design we see in the Justice League films. It seems more closely inspired by the iconic comic designs, which were more of a skintight outfit.

It’s crazy to think that we’ve originally seen this design in concept art almost two years ago, but still have to wait one more year to finally see it on screen. The pushback on the multiversal storyline also creates an issue with other releases, as some that take place in whatever new universe is set up by this film also may not release for some time, such as Batgirl which will feature Michael Keaton‘s Batman. There’s no official word for what the future of the DCEU will look like. So, we’ll have to wait for an update.

  • More Details Emerge on Amber Heard’s Reduced Role in ‘Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom’

More Details Emerge on Amber Heard’s Reduced Role in ‘Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom’

As the legal battles continue between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard, more details regarding the actress and her role as Mera have come to light. Previously, Heard stated that her screen time had been cut in Aquaman: The Lost Kingdom as a result of her legal troubles and the allegations against her. However, it seems Mera’s screen time was always going to be shorter in the sequel.

During the latest testimony, Walter Hamada, the head of Warner Bros.’ DC unit, was called to testify regarding Heard’s statement that the allegations against her had impacted her role as Mera. Per Hamada, the accusations against Heard did not impact Heard’s casting in The Lost Kingdom. He did, however, note that the studio did take more time to pick up Heard’s option for The Lost Kingdom for another reason. Hamada stated that the studio feared Heard and leading man Jason Momoa lacked chemistry, which they’d had trouble crafting in post-production on the first film.

“They didn’t have a lot of chemistry together,” Hamada explained. “Editorially they were able to make that relationship work in the first movie, but there was a concern that it took a lot of effort to get there.”

Hamada also stated that Mera’s role was not cut down in The Lost Kingdom. He insists that the role has always been on the smaller side since it was first developed because it was supposed to be more of a buddy-comedy film between Momoa’s Aquaman and Patrick Wilson’s King Orm.

As it stands, Heard’s Mera will return when Aquaman: The Lost Kingdom hits theaters on March 17th, 2023.
