  • Viola Davis in Talks to Star in a ‘Peacemaker’ Spin-Off

Viola Davis in Talks to Star in a ‘Peacemaker’ Spin-Off

The DC Extended Universe saw its first venture into television with James Gunn‘s spin-off of The Suicide Squad with Peacemaker, featuring the return of John Cena as the titular character. Gunn revealed before the series had even wrapped on its first season that he was already developing another DC series although he would not go into details about what that series might be.

Deadline is reporting that the star of Suicide Squad and its sequel, Viola Davis, will reprise her role as Amanda Waller in an upcoming HBO Max series. She will also serve as an executive producer on the project alongside James Gunn, Peter Safran, and Christal Henry, who will write and serve as an executive producer on the series.

There are no plot details on the series just yet and all we know is that it will not be in the same vein as Peacemaker was, with Gunn previously stating his next spin-off “won’t be as much a comedy as Peacemaker“.

The series could follow the aftermath of Peacemaker, where Waller’s own daughter, Leota Adebayo, went on national television to expose ARGUS and bring Task Force X into the light. Effectively Adebayo put a target on her mother’s back and revealed everything from what happened in Midway City to the project Starfish in Corto Maltese.

There has been no other details plot or casting wise as the project still seems to be in early development but it could be cool to see them explore Checkmate or even the Secret Six with a project like this, with Waller acting as the mockingbird figure.

  • ‘Legends of Tomorrow’ Canceled After 7 Seasons by The CW

‘Legends of Tomorrow’ Canceled After 7 Seasons by The CW

Hot off the heels of Batwoman‘s cancelation, it seems that the CW is busy cleaning up as Legends of Tomorrow is now also facing a similar fate. The series ran for seven seasons on the network and many feared the cancelation due to it still being on the fence even after The Flash got its early renewal. Yet, there are expectations that the last of the original CW series potentially also come to an end with the upcoming ninth season, it seems they are entering a new era for their DC projects.

It doesn’t mean they aren’t going to further explore DC projects, as they are currently working on the Gotham Knights series, which isn’t a Batwoman spinoff even if it has a similar setup. The only other series still waiting for a renewal is the latest addition to CW’s schedule, Naomi. As there are rumors of Warner Bros. potentially interested in selling the entire network to focus more on HBO Max, it’s unclear just how long these series might stick around with the current trends moving forward.

For now, it’s unclear what the future of the Arrowverse looks like, but it’s still impressive it ran for as long as it did. They included various crossover events that adapted some iconic comic storylines. While it confused those that we’re only watching a select few episodes, it definitely was something special for many and perhaps we’ll get one big final moment with a farewell if the franchise is coming to an end while the rest of the multiverse explores new stories independent fro the original.

  • ‘Batwoman’ Canceled at the CW After 3 Seasons

‘Batwoman’ Canceled at the CW After 3 Seasons

The CW has decided to cancel Batwoman after three seasons.
The decision was announced by series showrunner Caroline Dries. She took to Twitter to confirm the news stating:

    https://twitter.com/carolinedries/status/1520142094131613697?s=21&t=PdVQeZc_hoE63eCQCWDjHA

Batwoman has had a bit of a bumpy path on the CW. The series initially starred Ruby Rose during its first season, however, Rose went on to leave the project ahead of Season 2. At the time, the actress hadn’t completely explained her reasoning for leaving, only saying it was a decision she hadn’t come to lightly. Rose would then elaborate on her exit, citing injuries she sustained while on set and the grueling hours required as a series lead. Things would only become more complicated down the line as reports circulated regarding Rose’s behavior on set, as well as allegations she’d made against Dries.

The series would later reinvent itself with the casting of Javicia Leslie as the new Batwoman, Ryan Wilder. Unfortunately, though, while viewers tuned in to Season 2 to see how the new Batwoman would be introduced, the series took a bit of a stumble in its third season as it averaged around 760,000 viewers and a 0.2 demo rating – that is with Live+7 viewings already included. Those numbers are down approximately 20% from Season 2.

As it stands, The Flash has been renewed for another season, although reports suggest Season 9 could be its last. Fellow DC series Naomi and Legends of Tomorrow have yet to be renewed, although its expected news on those titles will hit soon.

  • RUMOR: ‘The Batman’s Penguin Spinoff May Start Production in June

RUMOR: ‘The Batman’s Penguin Spinoff May Start Production in June

The Batman is all the rage right now with the film just recently hitting HBO Max and crossing $750 million at the worldwide box office. So far, it’s one of the year’s biggest hits. In its first week the film quickly became HBO Max’s second-highest streamed film ever, and its most-streamed DC film, topping the likes of The Suicide Squad, Wonder Woman 1984, and Zack Snyder’s Justice League. The road doesn’t end there, however, as we’re set to return to Gotham city exclusively on HBO Max much sooner than we originally thought.

HBO Max will bring us back to the world of The Batman will the upcoming limited series following Oswald Cobblepott as he rises to power in Gotham’s darkest hour and the death of Carmine Falcon, becoming The Penguin we’ve all come to love. It seems production on the show may begin a lot sooner than we anticipated as a listing has revealed that the series will start on June 15th in Los Angeles.

There has been no official word on this start date and a lot of details are still murky on the project. As it’s something that can also change, it’s unsure if they’ll stick with this production start. We have yet to get any new casting, as well as hear who may be directing this series or any specific episodes. This news comes just a few days after Warner Bros. and Matt Reeves took to the CinemaCon stage to announce that a sequel to The Batman is in development with Reeves returning to write and direct, with Robert Pattinson set to don the cape and cowl once again.

  • ‘Harley Quinn’s Kite-Man Spinoff Officially Ordered to Series

‘Harley Quinn’s Kite-Man Spinoff Officially Ordered to Series

HBO Max is all-in with the upcoming Harley Quinn spinoff focused on the loveable “Hell Yeah” shouter, Kite Man. Titled Noonan’s, the series focuses on his time owning a bar and the many patrons that visit it from the DC Universe. Co-Creator of the original series Dean Lorey will act as the series showrunner. Suzanna Makkos, the executive Vice President of Original Comedy and Adult Animation for HBO Max and Adult Swim, shared their excitement for the spinoff.

We love the wild and fun world of ‘Harley Quinn’ so much we just had to make a spin-off and who better to center it around than the outcast Kite Man. Justin, Patrick, and Dean have created the perfect local hangout for Gotham City’s not-so-finest at Noonan’s, where bar patrons can blow off steam after a long day of mayhem

The project’s name may potentially change, but it’s great to see the fan-favorite character get his own spinoff out of Harley Quinn. The show took a hard R-rating to explore the DC universe in a unique way. It’s become quite the favorite with those that hoped to see their favorite characters cursing up a storm, and it never minced its words on what it’s about.

Kite-Man is a perfect straight man. So, whatever other villain or hero shows up at his bar may perfectly bounce off of his “Hell Yeah” attitude. We also don’t know if it might even tie into the main series, as it’s busy preparing for the release of its third season.

  • RUMOR: Ṣọpẹ Dìrísù In Talks To Play John Constantine

RUMOR: Ṣọpẹ Dìrísù In Talks To Play John Constantine

The DC Extended Universe looks to be branching out into the supernatural side of the mythos with J.J. Abrams and his production company, Bad Robot leading the charge. A few years ago, it was announced that Abrams and company would be developing several of DC’s Justice League Dark characters through several projects such as Zatanna, Madame X and Constantine.

Over the past week, news on the Constantine project has begun filtering out and it seems it will be the first to get rolling, which means they need a John Constantine. The Illuminerdi is reporting that british-Nigerian actor Ṣọpẹ Dìrísù, best known for his work on Gangs of New York and His House, is in talks to star as the and occult detective. Should he land the role,Dìrísù will be the third actor to wear the trench coat, following in the footsteps of Keanu Reeves and Matt Ryan.

The first story details on the project emerged just a few days ago, revealing that the series will see the streets of London filled with the supernatural, body horror, and urban action. It will see Constantine’s whole word changed when he meets a young girl that pulls him into the dark world of the occult. The series is currently casting for this girl, only known as “Akara” who could be Astra Logue, a young girl Constantine tried to save but failed, causing her to be damned to hell by the demon Nergal.

We will continue to track this developing project.

  • First Look at Bruce Wayne’s Funeral in New ‘Gotham Knights’ Set Photos

First Look at Bruce Wayne’s Funeral in New ‘Gotham Knights’ Set Photos

Filming in Toronto seems like the perfect location to film superhero shows and ensure that set photos find their way online. Just recently, the upcoming CW series Gotham Knights has started production, and we got a few set photos of Gotham City Policy driving through town. Now, it seems a new batch of set photos have found their way online that reveal they are currently busy filming the funeral of Bruce Wayne. Twitter user @greg_tedesco has shared a closer look at the headstone which even teases his perchance of moving in the shadows.

That wasn’t all, as @wmacphail also shared a photo from the set where we can see them filming the funeral of Bruce Wayne. The actors are too far away to see who exactly is attending, but it does reveal we’ll actually get to spend some time with Bruce, or at least that the opening of the series could be his funeral before hell is unleashed on Gotham.

Some time ago, we learned that Oscar Morgan would play an original character that pretty much has the same backstory as Dick Grayson. After the death of Bruce Wayne, whose trailer has been potted, and will also physically appear in the series, his character named Turner Hayes has to unite with the children of Batman’s worst enemies to fill the void that happened after he passed away. As the series just recently started production, we still have some time until we find out how the series adapts this storyline.

  • First Story Details for HBO Max’s ‘Constantine’ Reboot

First Story Details for HBO Max’s ‘Constantine’ Reboot

J.J. Abrams‘ Bad Robot made quite the deal with HBO as the production company was able to make an exclusive deal for three projects, which includes a Stephen King-inspired story called Overlook and Duster. Yet, the biggest surprise was that they are also adopting an iconic Justice League Dark member. It wasn’t until February of this year that we uncovered it was going to be about Constantine with UK writer Guy Bolton attached to write the series. Now, the first details have found their way online.

The 8-episode series is set to combine elements of body horror, supernatural and urban action in the streets of London. They are currently casting a character by the name of “Akara” who is a young 10-year-old Cambodian and will be the heart of the story. She’ll be cast alongside her grandfather “Pich.” A sudden encounter with the girl will throw the life of John Constantine upside down, as he falls down a rabbit hole of dangerous encounters and the occult. As these characters are cast under fake names, Akara could end up being Astra Logue from the Hellblazer comics.

The project is currently being cast under the working title “Blood Work” and, as mentioned by Illuminerdi, will start production later this year in the Fall. They shared that the production would work under the title “Chimney” as a cute callback to the character’s smoking habits. It’ll run until February of 2023, as it aims to shoot in London and Morocco. There’s still no word yet on who will take on the role of John Constantine, as Bad Robot has been actively looking to fill the role and is open to diverse casting.

It isn’t the first adaptation of the popular Hellblazer comics, as 2014 saw a one-season adaptation by NBC with Matt Ryan in the titular role. The series was simply titled Constantine but didn’t manage to land a second season renewal. Yet, Ryan’s portrayal was met with a lot of fanfare, which led to him joining CW’s Arrowverse, where he became a member of the Legends of Tomorrow series. It’s unclear if this new adaptation for HBO Max will become part of the bigger DC Extended Universe, or remain a self-contained story.

  • DC’s ‘Titans’ Leaked Set Photos Offer First Look at Jinx

DC’s ‘Titans’ Leaked Set Photos Offer First Look at Jinx

We just ran the first real set photo we got from the cast of DC’s Titans, which revealed that the upcoming season is very likely adapting the iconic White Raven storyline from the animated Teen Titans series and comic books with a twist. It looks like that isn’t the only element they are carrying over from the animated adaptation, as a new set photo offers our first look at the HBO Max show’s version of Jinx.

In one of the set photos, we can see actress Lisa Ambalavanar with a familiar hairstyle for those that followed the Cartoon Network animated series. With purple hair and some black stripes, they clearly took inspiration from the Teen Titans when bringing the character to life in the HBO Max series if the set photo provided by @seansmovies (as shared by @DCTBMidias) is anything to go by.

It certainly looks like they took inspiration from the animated design, but similar to what they did with Raven, they didn’t change her skin tone. We don’t know yet how they might adapt her abilities, as the animated show gave it a special purple spark to let people know she’s used the ability. So, here’s hoping the first trailer gives us a first look.

  • Leaked ‘Titans’ Set Photo Features White-Haired Raven

Leaked ‘Titans’ Set Photo Features White-Haired Raven

It looks like the upcoming fourth season of DC’s Titans will feature an iconic transformation for Teagan Croft‘s Raven. Fans of the original animated Teen Titans series might remember that when Raven confronted her father Trigon, she would embrace her purest energy to take on the representation of evil. This transformation led to the costume turning white. Well, it seems that the upcoming season of the HBO Max series will do something similar but this time around her hair will change.

It’s certainly a surprising reveal, but a new set photo from @seansmovies (as shared by @DCTBMidias) offers a look at a few of the actors of Titans. In it, we can clearly see Croft with a very different hairstyle. It’s gone completely white which would hint at her potentially going through a similar storyline in the upcoming season.

It’s a curious direction to take, especially as we already had a Trigon-focused storyline in the first season. Either they might build upon it, or her abilities are pushed to their limits in a new way. Brother Blood has been cast for the upcoming season and is likely its main villain. So, perhaps he is someone who worships Trigon and is trying to find a way to unleash him on the world. We’ll see if the trailer gives us our first look on what may end up being the cause for her transformation.
