New Look at Pablo Schreiber’s Master Chief in Paramount+’s ‘Halo’ Series

Halo has been going through quite a revival, as not only has the Halo: Infinite multiplayer been welcomed with open arms but its campaign was added recently. Entertainment Weekly used the opportunity to also share a new look at Pablo Schreiber‘s upcoming take of the franchise’s protagonist, Master Chief. The production was hit hard by the pandemic, as they had to take a six-month hiatus during its filming in Budapest. Luckily, after a long wait, we’ll finally see what a live-action take on the franchise might look like and Master Chief’s design looks quite fateful to the games.

The actor has described the role as “a herculean task” and what it meant to bring the character to life for the now Paramount+ original series. It’s planned to finally release later this year. In a recent interview he highlighted the weight that was on their shoulders for tackling this project:

It’s a huge job, from setting the tone on set down to the grueling task of waking up at the crack of dawn to work out, then go to shoot, and go home to work out some more. Nothing about it is easy, and I wouldn’t want it to be.

He promises that the series will “crack the veneer” to bring the iconic video game franchise to life, especially with how most adaptations face some issues in translating into other mediums. It’s an exciting prospect and here’s hoping it can live up to the weight of the original.

  • ‘Halo’ to Premiere Exclusively on Paramount+ in 2022

‘Halo’ to Premiere Exclusively on Paramount+ in 2022

It hasn’t been an easy road for Microsoft’s adaptation of Halo. It seems like it has been in development for an eternity. After a long silence, the adaptation has finally gotten an update in the form of a new home. It has been announced that the show will not premiere on Showtime but will become an exclusive series on the new streaming service, Paramount+. They are currently eyeing a premiere in the first quarter of 2022. The series will be produced by Steven Spielberg, Darryl Frank, and Justin Falvey‘s Amblin Television.

According to Deadline, they have already filmed around 60% of the first season before it got shut down due to the pandemic. It is uncertain when it was decided that the series would be added as an exclusive to the streaming service. CEO of Showtime, David Nevins, had the following to say about the series:

It delivers the visceral excitement of playing the game, along with a much deeper emotional experience around the Spartans, human beings who got their humanity chemically and genetically altered. The story is about reclaiming what makes them human, and therefore it’s a very powerful story.

It also came with the first look at the series logo, which remains very true to the original game’s version:

Showtime will be focused on premium adult programming, as ViacomCBS starts its new streaming venture. Even after all this time, we haven’t seen a single still from the series. It is uncertain if it will focus on Master Chief’s story from the original games, or explore something unique.

‘Fortnite’ Reveals ‘Halo’ and ‘The Walking Dead’ Skins

Well, we kind of knew this was going to happen. Halo‘s Master Chief was officially unveiled for Fortnite. The big surprise however is that they are also adding Blood Gulch as a brand new map with the gaming type. It was even presented in a nice tribute to the iconic web series Red vs. Blue.

That is not all, as they also revealed that popular The Walking Dead characters Daryll and Michonne are joining the popular battle royale series. Not much was said about them but it looks like this season will be inspired by many different corners of popular culture.

  • ‘Halo Infinite’ Delayed Until Fall 2021

‘Halo Infinite’ Delayed Until Fall 2021

Well, Halo fans are going to face a longer wait time than anticipated. At one point, Master Chief’s return in Halo Infinity was going to be a launch title for their next-gen console, Xbox Series X. The reception to the first publicly showcased trailer was mixed until the game got officially delayed last month. 343 Industries studio head Chris Lee stated that they wanted to use the time to deliver the Halo game experience they have envisioned when they started the project. It was uncertain if this meant it would get delayed into early 2021, but it looks like that the wait will be even longer. In a blog post on the official site, creative director Joseph Staten revealed that the game is eyeing a release in Fall 2021.

It looks like their campaign demo in July hasn’t gone over as intended, which sparked a realization that they needed more time. They’ve decided that the visual fidelity and art style of the game might need a new look that would honor the past but still be approachable for new players. They’ve showcased a few screenshots for future content and player customization, which you can check out here.

They even mentioned the meme that came from the rather deadpan face of the character many know as Craig. It seems that the facial animations weren’t far in development during that showcase, so it wasn’t intended for us to see that version of the model. It looks like they are putting a lot of work into customization, achievements, and challenges to ensure a well-rounded experience. There is a strong emphasis on the long-term roadmap, so the game might take some cues from Games-as-a-Service with various seasons expanding the multiplayer content for years to come. 343i wants to ensure that they approach this project player-first, so that is the key reason they want to plan more time to ensure everything is the way that fans are familiar with.

  • ‘Halo: Infinite’ Delayed Until 2021

    ‘Halo: Infinite’ Delayed Until 2021

Gaming will soon enter its new generation with the launch of PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. Some major IPs are being continued as flagship series to sell these consoles. Just recently, we got a major event showcasing the latest entry into the Halo franchise that would help sell the upcoming new Xbox. Halo: Infinite gave us our first good look at Master Chief in action while showcasing the hardware’s potential. At first, it seemed like the perfect showcase of what the console is capable of. That was until some took a closer look, and reactions ended up rather mixed. This was in large part due to the quality issue of the stream but it had some fans worried. Now, in a surprising announcement, the upcoming console seller was delayed until 2021 in a tweet from the official account.

343 Industries, the team behind the latest entry, decided to delay the release in large part due to the ongoing pandemic. It’s shocking to see, as it was going to be one of the launch titles for the new Xbox and help push its sales in the booming holiday business. Game sales have been up all year, so this was the perfect time to get these new consoles out. We still do not have an official release date or pricing. XBox Series X is still rumored to release in November but who knows if there are more delays to be expected.

No matter how one feels, this is a great decision by 343 to prioritize their employee’s health. There have been many discussions around the topic of crunch culture in the industry. Naughty Dog was already heavily criticized for its harsh over time with the release of The Last of Us 2. Nintendo, however, delayed Animal Crossing: New Horizons from its initial 2019 release date to avoid any health risks. Even if we have to wait a little longer, it is good to see these production companies setting their priorities and, in the end, it gives them more time to work on the game.
