  • ‘The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air’ 30th Anniversary Special Heading to HBO Max

It seems like HBO Max will soon be the center of reunion shows. First they announced a reunion of the FRIENDS cast. They already released the trailer for a brand new Saved by the Bell. Now, they are also throwing in a unscripted reunion special for Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. This will also be perfectly timed for the show’s upcoming 30th anniversary. It will star series regulars Tatyana Ali, Karyn Parsons, Joseph Marcell, Daphne Maxwell Reid, DJ Jazzy Jeff and Alfonso Ribeiro. Will Smith is also slated to return, as they start taping on September 10th.

It is great to see so many familiar faces return. The show originally ran for six years until it ended its run with 150 episodes back in 1996. No details were given if this will just be a single episode, or if they might end up filming multiple ones. Rikki Hughes is slated as showrunner alongside Miguel Melendez, Lukas Kaiser, and Brad Haugen. Marcus Raboy is set as the special’s director.

This news also comes after a drama reboot of the iconic franchise was announced. It might be a way to celebrate the original while also building up hype for the new incarnation. Morgan Cooper‘s trailer titled Bel-Air went viral and got him the opportunity to develop an actual series. He is attached as co-writer with Chris Collins set as showrunner.

  • HBO Max’ ‘Raised By Wolves’ Trailer Teases Humans vs. Androids

Ridley Scott really loves exploring outer space and our relationship with androids. The famous director behind The Martian and Alien joined up with Prisoners‘ Aaron Guzikowski for a brand new science-fiction story.  The original HBO Max series Raised by Wolves tells the story of two androids named Father and Mother. they were tasked to raise human children on a foreign planet after earth was destroyed. They are then hunted down by a colony of humans that want to take the children back. IGN got an exclusive first look at the series and shared the trailer online to show just how violent it will get.

Some might have recognized Vikings’ Travis Fimmel as the human leader. Not much is known about the series yet but the trailer does seem quite promising. Seems like there is more to Mother than meets the eye. Her violent tendencies seem to grow as the trailer goes by. Especially the hallway scene seemed rather reminiscent of the anime Elfen Lied. Funny enough, Fan4stic tried to do something similar with Doom after he takes down guards.

There are a lot of interesting visuals throughout the trailer for Raised by Wolves. At first it seemed like they gave birth to the humans, so I was surprised when they revealed that they were androids. A major part of this story will explore the impacts of religion which is rushed through a bit. Quite curious how they will try to explore this aspect. This isn’t the first time a robot raising a human was the focus of a TV series or film. Just last year the film I AM MOTHER on Netflix explored a similar relationship. It’s a curious concept that I am glad is getting more attention. I cannot wait to check it out when it releases September 3rd.

  • FanDome: Red Hood, Barbara Gordon and Scarecrow Joining ‘TITANS’ Season 3

Titans is an interesting addition to the DC universe. It explored a darker version of the titular hero team. We saw Dick Grayson grow out of the shadows of his former mentor, as he tries to protect Raven from her demon father’s influences. It wasn’t until the second season that the actual team formed as they faced the assassin Deathstroke. He was even the reason the original team that the original team was forced to split up.

Now, DC FanDome has finally arrived and we got some info on what to expect from the upcoming season. We ended the last with Grayson embracing the Nightwing mantle. The third season was delayed due to the pandemic as it was originally going to premiere in the fourth quarter of this year. Still, many were hoping we get a first look at what the season will offer and confirmation if Jason Todd would become Red Hood.

That isn’t all as we also got the reveal that Barbara Gordon and Scarecrow will be joining the next season. They are using the next season to explore Gotham a bit. Both Barbara and Grayson are going to have to learn from their guardians mistakes, as Todd embraces his evil side once he accepts the moniker of Red Hood.

Won’t lie, I am a huge Red Hood fan. Loved the character ever since I saw the Red X version in the Teen Titans animated series. So, getting a first look at him in live-action is just great to see. No matetr

  • ‘House of The Dragon’ Casting Targaryen Lead

‘House of The Dragon’ Casting Targaryen Lead

Looks like the Game of Thrones spin-off has started casting its main leads. House of the Dragon will retell the story of the Targaryen rule. It was alluded to throughout the show. This replaces the Naomi Watts prequel series that got sadly got canceled. Miguel Sapochnik and Ryan Condal are set as showrunners. They will direct a few episodes including the pilot. This is great news as Sapochnik was the director of various iconic episodes of the original show. He directed “The Battle of the Bastards” and “The Winds of Winter”.

According to Illuminerdi, they are currently casting the role of Prince Daemon Targaryen. They also included a character description for the casting:

PRINCE DAEMON TARGARYEN (Male, 40-50) – The younger brother to King Viserys, Daemon wasn’t born with “naked ambition” for the throne despite being in line for it. He’s less methodical and more impetuous. Not to mention easily bored…stumbling from one distraction to the next with the subconscious yet singular obsession with earning the love and acceptance of his brother the king. Most of Daemon’s joy is found at sword-point. But even as the most experienced warrior of his time, he vacillates between vile and heroic, making him the true rogue of the series.

SERIES LEAD. OPTIONS ESSENTIAL *This role is currently scheduled to film between January – December 2021*

An interesting choice as a series lead. The character seems to be more of an anti-hero character with him balancing the line of vile and heroic. The only thing that is certain about a Game of Thrones series is that there is a chance of a revolving door of characters. This story will span a long time in history, so we could see a similar concept to The Crown by skipping different eras. We are going to enter an age of dragons, so it’ll be interesting how they keep their budgets in check. Daemon is a dragon rider, so we might get to see his dragon Caraxes on screen more often than we did Daenerys’ three. It’s exciting to see this project moving forward and cannot wait to explore this time in the world of Game of Thrones.

  • DCU Originals Migrate to HBO Max

DCU Originals Migrate to HBO Max

The launch of DC Universe was something special and unprecedented: taking one brand under a single roof from comics, movies, tv, and their most ambitious venture, the originals. At launch DC Universe began a weekly release of their first original series Titans and had begun on the third season of the fan favorite animated series Young Justice. From their DCU began to announce more such as the Titans spinoff Doom Patrol, Swamp Thing, Harley Quinn, Stargirl, and Bizarro World. Since the launch of HBO Max and the news that many of DC Universe’s originals would begin streaming elsewhere the future of the service to be cast in doubt.

Today, to the surprise of no one, it was confirmed by DC comics CCO Jim Lee that the originals would be migrating from DCU to a new home: HBO Max. To those that have been living under a rock, hints of this have been becoming more and more obvious. Doom Patrol, which streamed on both DCU and HBO Max, should’ve been the biggest attention grabber for most as it seems like Warnermedia may have been testing the waters for a pilgrimage of sorts. HBO Max will become the new homes of many fan favorite shows such as Young Justice and Swamp Thing that will join Doom Patrol and Harley Quinn . Also available on the service will be Titans where it’ll most likely debut it upcoming third season.

The best course of action would be to develop ‘DC Universe’ into a digital comic library and possibly begin to offer exclusive digital issues for subscribers of the service. Right now DCU is holding on tight to what could be some of HBO Max’s biggest persuaders such as the ever popular Batman: The Animated Series, Batman Beyond, Teen Titans, both animated Justice League Series, and a vast library of animated features that could really beef up the DC Library on Max. The end is nigh for DC universe, whether it cease to exist or be rendered a virtual library of comics for subscribers, it’ll be sad to see lose a lot of what made it so great.
