  • Chris Hemsworth Calls ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ the “Greatest Thing” He’s Ever Worked On

Chris Hemsworth Calls ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ the “Greatest Thing” He’s Ever Worked On

Thor star Chris Hemsworth took to social media ahead of the release of the Thor: Love and Thunder official trailer to hype up fans for the drop on Monday, May 23 during Game 4 of the NBA Eastern Conference Finals. Not only does the veteran Marvel Cinematic Universe actor tell fans that the trailer itself will “blow your mind,” but he goes on to say that Love and Thunder is the “greatest thing” he has ever worked on. In his video, he states:

This trailer is going to blow your mind! It is something that I am so so proud of… [the film] is the greatest thing I have ever had the pleasure and honor of working on.

    Chris Hemsworth

That is high praise coming from a prolific actor who—just in the MCU—has starred in 7 major movies between the Thor and Avengers franchises. So, Hemsworth is hyping up Love and Thunder as, in his experience, greater than films like Thor: Ragnarok, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame. Of course, the marketing push for the fourth Thor film is ramping up, so naturally, the stars and creators are going to say things to get fans interested. Still, it is poised to be quite an interesting film that could live up to Hemsworth’s praise. Check out the actor’s full video below:

Fans will soon be able to decide for themselves whether the official trailer blows their minds, but here are some of the things we hope to see in it.

Thor: Love and Thunder is set to release in theaters on July 8, 2022.

  • New ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ Crew Merch May Further Hint at Mayan Influences on MCU’s Atlantis

New ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ Crew Merch May Further Hint at Mayan Influences on MCU’s Atlantis

It looks like some more things are finding their way online from the upcoming release of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Not only did it seem like a blurry image of what might be Tenoch Huerta‘s Namor leak online, but now some crew merchandise has also surfaced online. Now, what stands out is that besides the iconic Wakandan language, you can see a baseball cap with what seems like Tepeyollotl on it, who is the Aztec Jaguar God. Further highlighting the potential Mayan and Aztec influences on the MCU’s Atlantis.

The fact that the Jaguar God is focused on is quite an interesting direction to take the concept. In a way, it would hint that perhaps Atlantis has a similar origin that Wakanda had. A chosen warrior by their feline god gives them the power to protect their kingdom, perhaps a misunderstanding of how the mutation works that Namor inherits. Both cities stayed hidden and developed in a way that the rest of the world could not keep up with.

Whatever may lead to a potential conflict between Atlantis and Wakanda may also be played into their origin. Perhaps knowing that they both went through similar things, the eventual conflict could be ended through some form of diplomacy. Of course, it also raises the question if Atlantis’ attack may also be echoed by their beliefs. Fun fact, a panther is commonly referred to a Jaguar or Leopard with black fur.

  • RUMOR: Possible First Look at ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’s Namor Leaked

RUMOR: Possible First Look at ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’s Namor Leaked

Here’s a rather sudden surprise but it looks like a blurry first image of Namor has found its way online, who will make his premiere in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. It’s been long rumored that Tenoch Huerta is taking on the role of the Submariner, even if we never got an official confirmation from Marvel Studios. While the design is very blurry, it does offer a first glimpse at what he might look like, and how they’ll translate it from the comics. The design also seems to match what another leaker, @MyTimeToShineHello has shared not too long ago.

While the blurred image maeks it difficult to make out details, the design does seem strongly inspired by Namor’s original costume design with the green trunks. As per usual with any MCU adaptation, they’ve added some new flourishes like gauntlets on his arms. It does also seem like he has a piece around his neck, but it’s unclear what exactly it is.

The biggest confirmation, if this image turns out to be real, is that Marvel Studios is not shying away from his iconic feet wings. The character is known as one of the first Mutants introduce din the MCU, and that mutation was in the form of him having wings on his feet. While it seems like it could just be an armor piece, we’ll have to see if we get a reveal of some kind in the near future to confirm this comic-accurate detail. For now, we can only speculate.

  • Ariana DeBose Offers Update on ‘Kraven the Hunter’

Ariana DeBose Offers Update on ‘Kraven the Hunter’

Hot off of her success with West Side Story, Ariana DeBose has joined her first major blockbuster production. While many Marvel fans were hoping to see her as part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it was Sony that ended up casting her first in the role of the voodoo priestess Calypso in their live-action Kraven the Hunter movie.

Not much is known about how they’ll adapt her character into live-action, but she did offer a small update on how far the production is coming along in an interview with Deadline.

It’s cool. It’s going well. I mean, for as much as I believe I’m allowed to say about it, I think it’s going swimmingly.

    Ariana DeBose

She also talked about what it’s like being part of a franchise as large as Marvel, highlighting her excitement on being involved with the role but also what her focus is when taking a role, no matter what project it is.

Yeah. I’m proud of them. I think all of these franchise pieces, it’s all about your growth. And it’s exciting to be a part of something that feels like it’s taking a step in a different direction. I feel like they’re just allowing this to live in whatever world it needs to live in, which is kind of cool. I don’t like work experiences, period, where I feel like I’m asked to fit a box, because my job is to discover the box and to define the box. That’s my job, in my opinion. I mean, it is 2022.

    Ariana DeBose

As it’s another Spider-Man spinoff without the iconic wallcrawler, there are many questions on how they might adapt the character’s origin story and how it may fit into the overall world they are building. Morbius‘ post-credit sequence hinted at a potential Sinister Six team featuring a dimension traveling Vulture, but at this point, it’s difficult to say what the future has in store for Sony’s Marvel franchise.

  • George Miller Shares His Thoughts on Superhero Cinema and its Cinematic Future

George Miller Shares His Thoughts on Superhero Cinema and its Cinematic Future

It’s become a curious trend for journalists to ask veteran filmmakers about their opinions on superhero films. While some, most famously Martin Scorsese, downplayed their value to cinema and equated them to “theme park” rides, there have been others that also had some positive thoughts on the currently dominating genre.

The trend continues as George Miller was asked the classic question while promoting 3000 Years of Longing during the press conference at Cannes. The question was in reference to a DC Comics inclusion that sparked the question on what he thought about the superhero films and their future.

They endure and have endured anyway. The one thing you will be certain of is that they will change, they will morph into something else. Marvel and the DC Universe are basically the vestiges of the Greek and Norse and Roman mythologies. There’s a direct equivalence between each of those characters. We’re going through an era in which I think we’re expressing through moving image narrative these stories. They’re echoes of the past, but they’re adjusted to have meaning to us.

    George Miller

There have been some that viewed comic book characters as the modern take on mythology with these larger-than-life characters. So, the comparison makes a lot of sense and we’re seeing an age where their focus moved from comics to moving pictures, and who knows what the future has in store for them.

Tilda Swinton, who has appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the past, has also added to the discussion by highlighting that there needs to be a diversity of stories being told, which is something we’re finally seeing become more relevant with COVID slowing down.

The thing that is dangerous about story is when you have only one story. It is possible when people cant hear any other stories that things really go down the tubes very, very fast and may close everything down. It’s keeping people’s ears open, keeping their ears curious to hear a new perspective, a new truth even,” she continued.

    Tilda Swinton

Diversity in any medium is what makes it grow, something even Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has openly discussed in the past by highlighting his excitement for competition in the market. We’re seeing a new influx of smaller productions once again taking their stand in cinemas, especially with how well A24’s Everything Everywhere All At Once, The Northman, The Massive Weight of Unbearable Talent, and more.

Other blockbuster franchises are also once again making a stand in the industry, such as Top Gun: Maverick and Jurassic World Dominion. One thing that is clear is that the growing number of films finding their way back is a healthy showcase for any franchise currently out there. COVID is still showing its fans, but there’s a positivity to be found in how

  • REPORT: Next ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ Trailer to Potentially Release on Monday

REPORT: Next ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ Trailer to Potentially Release on Monday

Thor: Love and Thunder is the next Marvel Studios film in line to release with only around two more months to go. It became infamous for having the latest release of a trailer, but it left quite an impact as Thor is trying to wrestle with a mid-life crisis and Jane Foster returns wielding a restored Mjolnir. While we’re still waiting for a first official look at Gorr the God Butcher, it seems we’ll get a chance rather soon.

According to Daniel Richtman‘s official Patreon page, we’ll likely get a trailer on Monday, May 23rd. There is mention that we’ll know for sure if a teaser drops tomorrow to tease the next entry. Of course, there’s no mention of what exactly will be included but the second trailer commonly gives a bigger hint at what the main plotline will be for a movie. It’s unclear if they want to keep Christian Bale‘s Gorr a secret, ignoring the merch leaks, until the film’s release.

  • Sony Chairman Plans to Have Jon Watts Direct ‘Spider-Man 4’

Sony Chairman Plans to Have Jon Watts Direct ‘Spider-Man 4’

Jon Watts just recently surprised people with the decision to move away from the upcoming Fantastic Four project. Yet, we learned shortly after that he started work on a new project together with Lucasfilm, which will explore an Amblin-style entry in the Star Wars galaxy. Now that he just wrapped work on one of the biggest Spider-Man film releases of all time with No Way Home, it seems Sony Chairman isn’t ready to let him go quite yet. In an interview with Deadline, Tom Rothman confirmed that he hopes for Watts to return to the director’s chair for the fourth MCU Spider-Man entry.

On one hand, many have hoped that a new creative team would take the reigns as Tom Holland‘s Spider-Man takes a more grounded approach. Now that he’s seemingly unshackled from the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, they can rewrite his future as part of the franchise. Yet, it seems that Sony wants to keep Watts heavily involved, as well as see the return of Zendaya as MJ.

Now, that also raises the question of how big of a role she could have considering she is heading out to MIT and has completely forgotten who Peter Parker is. Of course, she may be visiting New York City, it is her home after all, and they bump into each other. She will only remember him as the stranger she met at the coffee shop. He’s not officially signed on and things may change as more get a chance to potentially pitch their take on the character.

  • Australian Theater Chain Leaks ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ Runtime

Australian Theater Chain Leaks ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ Runtime

There have always been active discussions on just how long some of the upcoming Marvel Studios films will be. When Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness‘ runtime was revealed, people were worried that it wasn’t “long enough” to really fully explore the multiverse. Now, it seems that an Australian theater chain, Even Cinemas, may have accidentally leaked the runtime for Thor: Love and Thunder, which will once again fuel the speculation surrounding if it will spend enough time with the characters.

According to Event Cinema, Love and Thunder will run for 115 minutes. That would mean the film will be just shy of the two-hour mark, not that uncommon with superhero films. If this is the final runtime for the film., it’ll be longer than the first The Incredible Hulk (112 minutes), and Thor: The Dark World (112 minutes). Funny enough, it’s the same runtime as the first Thor and the first Doctor Strange film. It’ll also only be slightly shorter than the first AntMan film, which was 117 minutes.

Runtimes don’t speak for the quality of the film, and it also is up to the director to find that sweet spot of how long a film needs to be. As we don’t know any details about the film or how it’ll explore the different plot points hinted at. It’s easy to go by rumors that the runtime may not fit what we’ve heard about the story but we also don’t know how much time is spent with what characters or story concepts. Plus, Taika Waititi is known for his fast-paced storytelling.

  • Will Poulter on Playing Adam Warlock in ‘Guardians of The Galaxy Vol. 3’ and Beyond

Will Poulter on Playing Adam Warlock in ‘Guardians of The Galaxy Vol. 3’ and Beyond

Guardians of The Galaxy Vol. 3 is set to conclude what director James Gunn and his crew started all the way back in 2014 with the first Guardians of The Galaxy film. It brought the rather obscure cosmic team into the limelight and made them household names ever since. The third film is set to introduce quite an important character from the Marvel mythos, as Will Poulter is set to play Adam Warlock, a role Poulter says he’s ready to play the long game with.

Poulter sat down with the playlist to talk about his upcoming film The Score, where he was asked about his exciting debut as Warlock in the next Guardians film.

I first auditioned in June of last year [2021], and that was the first time I auditioned, and then I kind of got the role in September, I think. And then started shooting in December… I didn’t know what character , initially, I was auditioning for. I kind of knew sort of closer to the time [of casting] who I was reading for. Although I wasn’t familiar with Adam Warlock beforehand, I was very familiar with the ‘Guardians of The Galaxy,’ and it was king of my favorite ‘planet’ within the Marvel universe, if you like. I’m just a huge fan of the tone and creativity and James Gunn’s work and so many of the actors, you know, that I now I get to call colleagues, which i’m very grateful for. So yeah, to have any kind of part in that world is very, very cool for me.

    Will Poulter

Poulter went on to talk about the future of his character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe but revealed he isn’t actually sure where the character is going, only that he is more than happy to stick around for the journey.

I don’t know. I honestly don’t know what’s in store for me. I’m waiting to find out, and that’s the honest truth, but, needless to say, I’d love to sort of go on a journey with that character.

    Will Poulter

Guardians of The Galaxy Vol. 3 is set to hit theaters on May 5th, 2023 with Gunn returning to write and direct. Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Bradley Cooper, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Karen Gillian, and Pom Klementieff will all reprise their respective roles.

  • Marvel Makes a 20-Year Deal With Genius Brands and POW! Entertainment for Stan Lee’s Likeness and Name

Marvel Makes a 20-Year Deal With Genius Brands and POW! Entertainment for Stan Lee’s Likeness and Name

It’s definitely a weird deal to talk about, but it seems that Marvel has acquired the rights to bring Stan Lee, who passed away in 2018, back to life through archival footage and digital technology. If you’re wondering what exactly this is all about, it seems that Marvel has signed a 20-year deal with Stan Lee Universe, which is a venture of Genius Brand International and POW! Entertainment. It lets them license the use of his name and likeness in any future film or TV production, as well as Disney theme parks, “experiences,” and merchandising.

The CEO of Genius Brands, Andy Heyward, has shared the following statement on the decision to make this deal and revive the beloved comic creator, who quickly became the face of Marvel, through digital means.

It really ensures that Stan, through digital technology and archival footage and other forms, will live in the most important venue, the Marvel movies, and Disney theme parks. It’s a broad deal.

    Andy Heyward

Stan Lee‘s cameos in the various Marvel films, not just Marvel Studios’ MCU, were a staple and they have found indirect ways to mention the comic creator with small tributes to the actor without actually including him. Of course, it’s unclear if he’ll actually return as a digital character in these films. Plus, it’s not certain people will feel comfortable seeing a digital double of Lee on the silver screen. Best case, they might include his likeness in the background like how the Netflix shows had him on posters. Heyward highlights:

The audience revered Stan, and if it’s done with taste and class, and respectful of who he was, [uses of his likeness] will be welcomed. He is a beloved personality, and long after you and I are gone, he will remain the essence of Marvel.

    Andy Heyward

The deal is still a strange one, as Stan Lee Universe was originally founded by Gill Champion and Arthur Lieberman with the comic creator to “steward” the legacy he left behind. It’s unclear just how detailed the dealing is and if they have to sign off on the use of his likeness, but we’ll have to see how this deal pans out. They likely may have also made a deal due to existing merchandise using Lee‘s likeness.
