Chukwudi Iwuji Seemingly Joins ‘Guardians of The Galaxy Vol 3.’ as Production Starts

Production on the third installment within the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy is finally taking place as the film and holiday special is set to film back to back. Writer and director James Gunn returns to helm the project hot off of the release of The Suicide Squad and wrapping production Peacemaker.

Not much is known about the film aside from Adam Warlock finally making his debut into the Marvel Cinematic Universe after the Guardians of The Galaxy Vol 2 end credit scene teased his arrival. Will Poulter will play the character, having recently been confirmed to join the cast, but it seems Gunn may have just confirmed and added yet another past cast member to this film. In a recent post to Twitter, featuring a photo of him with the cast of Guardians of The Galaxy Vol 3, it seems Peacemaker star Chukwudi Iwuji may have joined the upcoming Marvel film.

It’s unknown who Iwuji may be playing as this is currently the only confirmation of his addition to the film. The director of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 also shared his excitement to work alongside the actor once more.

It’s not uncommon for Gunn to bring back past actors, especially if he loved working with them. In almost every one of his films, both Nathan Fillion and Michael Rooker have played some role, just recently having played TDK and Savant in The Suicide Squad. Iwuji plays Clemson Murn in Peacemaker, a seemingly original character created by Gunn for the series. Surely Gunn will make his way to social media soon to confirm Iwujis return.

  • BREAKING: Gael Garcia Bernal Boards Marvel Studios’ Werewolf by Night

BREAKING: Gael Garcia Bernal Boards Marvel Studios’ Werewolf by Night

Gael Garcia Bernal is joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Per The Wrap, the actor is set to headline the forthcoming Disney+ Halloween Special from Marvel Studios believed to be Werewolf by Night. Details on the forthcoming project are sparse, however, production is slated to begin in early 2022.

With the project thought to be Werewolf by Night, it seems likely the actor is playing the Jake Gomez iteration of the character. Gomez, of course, was the second Werewolf by Night of the character, having debuted in Werewolf by Night #1 by Taboo, Benjamin Jackendoff and Scot Eaton. Prior to Gomez, there was Jack Russell, the first Werewolf by Night, who was created by Gerry Conway and Mike Ploog and first appeared in a 1972 issue of Marvel Spotlight.

Bernal is a huge get for Marvel Studios and Disney+. The Mexican-born actor has built up quite a resume throughout his career, having starred in Coco for Disney, as well as nabbing the leading role in Amazon’s critically-acclaimed Mozart in the Jungle. He most recently starred in M. Night Shyamalan’s Old. Up next for the actor is the HBO Max miniseries Station Eleven, based on Emily St. John Mandel’s novel of the same name.

Prior to Bernal’s casting, it was thought Marvel Studios was eyeing Anthony Ramos (In the Heights, Hamilton) for the leading role.

  • ‘Hawkeye’ Producer on Drawing Inspiration from the Fraction/Aja Run in the Comics

‘Hawkeye’ Producer on Drawing Inspiration from the Fraction/Aja Run in the Comics

Fans are eagerly awaiting Hawkeye, the next Marvel Studios original Disney+ series. Recently, Marvel Studios executive producer Trinh Tran spoke about how actress Hailee Steinfeld was basically made for the role of Kate Bishop, the young archer Clint Barton teams up within the series. Steinfeld also apparently feels quite attached to the character. In an interview with EW, the actress shared that, “[d]iving into all the information out there on Kate Bishop felt like a dream.”

In an interview with EW, Steinfeld revealed that much of her inspiration for her character came from the critically acclaimed Hawkeye comic by Matt Fraction and David Aja. While we already knew that the series would draw heavily from the well-known run, apparently, the comic particularly influenced the dynamic between Kate and Clint. In the same interview, Tran explained:

“The Fraction/Aja style and tone is what we were really gravitating towards…[o]nce they encounter each other and go off on this journey together, there’s so much they can bounce off each other.”

    Trinh Tran

The witty mentor-mentee relationship between the two archers was certainly a standout aspect of the Fraction/Aja comic– if Hawkeye can manage to pull off something similar, or successfully adapt any of the other Hawkeye comic components, the series may end up being something quite special.

The first two episodes of Hawkeye premiere on Disney+ later this month.

  • Marvel Studios’ ‘Eternals’ Pulled From Release in Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Kuwait

Marvel Studios’ ‘Eternals’ Pulled From Release in Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Kuwait

Marvel Studios’ Eternals is no longer releasing in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait or Qatar. Per The Hollywood Reporter, the film was banned from being released in the three countries do the inclusion of a same-sex couple in the film.

Eternals was originally slated to hit theaters in the Gulf Region on Nov. 11, shortly after its release in the United States. However, the film has been quietly removed from appearing on websites in the three countries. Interestingly, though, it is still showing as coming soon in the United Arab Emirates.

The ban comes as Disney was given a series of edit requests to make on Eternals to adhere to the local censors. Disney, however, refused to comply with the requests, resulting in the film being pulled from release. While not on the record, it’s thought one of the requests was to cut the on-screen kiss between Phastos (Brian Tyree Henry) and his on-screen husband Ben (Haaz Sleiman).

Phastos, of course, is the first gay superhero to appear within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which makes the on-screen kiss between the two characters monumental. Unfortunately, though, because homosexuality is still illegal across the Gulf, the depiction of it in the film was always going to ruffle some feathers.

Eternals hits theaters tomorrow. It is directed by Chloé Zhao and stars an ensemble cast including Gemma Chan, Richard Madden, Kumail Nanjiani, Lia McHugh, Lauren Ridloff, Barry Keoghan, Don Lee, Harish Patel, Kit Harington, Salma Hayek and Angelina Jolie.

  • RUMOR: ‘Moon Knight’s Production Designer Stefania Cella Joins Marvel Studios’ ‘Blade’

RUMOR: ‘Moon Knight’s Production Designer Stefania Cella Joins Marvel Studios’ ‘Blade’

While a release date has not yet been announced for Marvel Studios’ Blade, it seems the studio is moving full steam ahead on the project. Back in July, it was revealed that Mogul Mowgli director Bassam Tariq signed on for the project. He’ll be working from a script by Stacy Osei-Kuffour (HBO’s Watchmen), who joined the project back in February.

As it stands, the only cast member attached to the film is Mahershala Ali, who was announced to be playing the character at SDCC back in 2019. With casting still underway, the Marvel Studios film looks to be building its crew. A new rumor from Geek Vibes Nation suggests Stefania Cella will serve as the production designer on Blade. Cella has previously worked on Moon Knight for Marvel Studios, as well as Sony’s forthcoming Morbius adaption.

  • ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ Might Be the MCU’s Second-Longest Film

‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ Might Be the MCU’s Second-Longest Film

Spider-Man: No Way Home seems to cause a fan uproar every day over some new details revealed or rumor tweeted. With all the information around, it’s been wondered: how long will No Way Home have to be to fit in all of its multiversal madness?

Apparently, we now have an answer. On Ingresso, a Brazilian ticketing service owned by Fandango, the No Way Home is listed as being 159-minutes long. In other words, it looks like one of the most highly anticipated Marvel Studios films might be one of the MCU’s longest at 2 hours and 39 minutes.

If true, it would make No Way Home the second-longest MCU film ever behind Avengers: Endgame’s 3 hours and 2 minutes. The upcoming Eternals recently made similar headlines after it was revealed that it would span 2 hours and 37 minutes.

In any event, fans looking forward to the finale of the Homecoming trilogy will certainly have plenty of movie to sit through when it’s released on Dec. 17.

  • Zazie Beetz Would Love to Return as Domino

Zazie Beetz Would Love to Return as Domino

It’s hard to believe it’s already been over three years since Zazie Beetz made her one and only appearance as Domino in Deadpool 2. The character was far-and-away the breakout star of the film, giving both Josh Brolin‘s Cable and Ryan Reynolds‘ titular character a run for their money. Now, the actress says she’s ready to make her return to the role as soon as Disney is ready to give her the call.

In an interview with ComicBook.com, the Atlanta actress expressed her enthusiasm regarding the mutant mercenary with the power of probability. And while details regarding Deadpool 3 and Domino’s role are sparse, Beetz is ready to suit up again.

I would love to revisit Domino. I would love to do a Deadpool 345719. I’ve also wanted to be like, ‘Maybe I could just do my own origin story.’ I feel honored to have been able to depict her on screen and to have played with her, as her. I love her and so I would be more than happy to revisit her on camera. And I think I will. If Disney doesn’t make it happen, I’ll make it happen.

The state of the Deadpool film franchise is currently unknown, as Disney took control of it’s future from Fox in 2019’s massive acquisition. Both existing entries proved to be exceedingly popular with fans, which makes it likely the studio will one day produce another installment. Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige and Reynolds himself have done just about everything but announce an official release date for the project, which could hit theaters as part of the MCU’s next phase of films.

As it stands, Deadpool 3 does not have a release date.

  • Son of Satan Creator Doesn’t Think ‘Helstrom’ Took Enough Influence From the Comics

Son of Satan Creator Doesn’t Think ‘Helstrom’ Took Enough Influence From the Comics

During the fall of Marvel Television, the company managed to squeak out a single-season adaptation of the character Daimon Hellstrom, also known as the Son of Satan. Titled simply Helstrom, the live-action series took several liberties in bringing its characters to life. Jeph Loeb and the folks at Marvel Television took steps to ensure Daimon and his sister Satana, renamed here as Ana Helstrom, would come off as more grounded and a little less fantastical. Roy Thomas, who co-created the characters back in 1973, revealed in a recent interview with ComicBook.com that he took issue with the changes to his work.

As he bluntly states, Thomas feels the creatives should have leaned more on the source material:

They should’ve followed the comic books. Somebody doing the series should’ve read the comic book. Maybe they could’ve made a good series out of that. They could have even left the extra ‘L.

Thomas went on to expand his frustrations to other live-action adaptations, citing the successful live-action Incredible Hulk series as another example of changing too much from the source material:

I mean, the guy who did the Hulk show, he just buries the Hulk various times. He thought, ‘Oh, I paid no attention to that comic book. I went to things like Frankenstein, and Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde,’ And gee, obviously Stan Lee and Jack Kirby could never have been smart enough to think of something like that. These guys have to think they’re reinventing the wheel every time they do something in order to justify their enormous salaries, I suppose.

With Marvel Television having closed its doors last year, a renewal for the series seemed unlikely from the start. Unfortunately, those hoping for a second season were upset to receive official confirmation that the series would not be returning last December.

If you’ve yet to check out the Helstrom siblings, you can catch Helstrom in it’s entirety on Hulu.

  • Kamala Khan Will Go ‘Beyond the Limit’ in a New Ms. Marvel Series This December

Kamala Khan Will Go ‘Beyond the Limit’ in a New Ms. Marvel Series This December

Kamala Khan will go beyond the limit in a brand new series launching this December.

On Friday, Marvel Comics unveiled the first look at the forthcoming series. Ms. Marvel: Beyond the Limit is set after an explosion of interdimensional proportions at her cousin’s lab in Chicago. As Kamala’s world is turned upside down, and into a Bollywood set, she finds her powers are on the fritz. Unfortunately, it’ll be a race against the clock to figure out what is going on.

The new series hails from New York Times best-selling author Samira Ahmend (Love, Hate and Other Filters) and features art by Runaways artist Andrés Genolet. The series will “carry Kamala to new heights” as she dives deeper into her powers and what ultimately makes her a hero.

You can check out a sneak-peek at the forthcoming title in the below slideshow.

“We’re definitely going to have some food in there, we’re definitely gonna have some pretty striking South Asian cultural elements that people are gonna see right off the bat in the series,” Ahmed said. “There are gonna be some familiar faces and fan favorites, but also some new faces… Willow and then Saladin have created such an incredible world. I’m just excited to explore it and even push it out a little further.”
