  • Steven Yeun’s ‘Thunderbolts’ Role Reportedly Revealed

Steven Yeun’s ‘Thunderbolts’ Role Reportedly Revealed

Marvel Studios’ search for its “evil Superman” is over if a new round of rumors and reports is to be believed. As work on Thunderbolts progresses ahead of its scheduled June production start, it appears that The Walking Dead star Steven Yeun has landed the role of Robert Reynolds/Sentry.

Rumors of the involvement of the Sentry in the plot of Thunderbolts have swirled since late Fall of 2022 when a casting call for an “evil Superman” circulated online. After sorting through a few of Marvel’s Superman analogs, Sentry rose to the top of the list of possible choices and additional information from reliable insiders has continued to build the case that he’ll make his MCU debut in the film. Now a slew of reports, including one from The Illuminerdi, all indicate that the 39-year-old Yeun has landed the part, which will make him a key player in the MCU beyond the events of 2024’s Thunderbolts.

Though Yeun is most well known (and beloved by fans) for his long-running role as Glenn on AMC’s The Walking Dead, should he have landed the role of Sentry it won’t be his first rodeo as a nigh-omnipotent and indestructible hero. Yeun has served as the voice of Mark Grayson, the Viltrumite-human hybrid hero known as Invincible, for 2 seasons of the animated Amazon Prime series Invincible. For all their similarities in terms of powers, however, Sentry and Invincible are far from the same character and stepping into the role of Sentry would provide Yeun an opportunity to explore a character with a much, much darker side. In the comics, that darker side is, in part, due to an entity known as The Void, and that entity is rumored to appear in Thunderbolts as a key part of Sentry’s character arc.

  • New Rumor Suggests One of Marvel’s Most Powerful Characters is Headed to the MCU’s Phase 6

New Rumor Suggests One of Marvel’s Most Powerful Characters is Headed to the MCU’s Phase 6

The MCU’s fifth phase of projects just kicked off with Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania (you can read our review here) which introduces one of Marvel Comics’ most compelling villains in Jonathan Majors‘ Kang the Conqueror. The Conqueror is the second Variant of Kang to show up in the Multiverse Saga and we know he won’t be the last as the narrative progresses towards Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars. With such a powerful and cunning villain set to antagonize the heroes of the MCU, they’ll need all the help they can get and a new rumor suggests that one of Marvel Comics’ powerhouses may be ready to join the MCU in Phase 6.

A recent report suggests that the casting process for the 2025 Fantastic Four film is kicking off in earnest and that Marvel Studios plans to start by finding their Susan Storm, adding fuel to the fire that star Mila Kunis could be in contention for the pivotal role. Hot on the tail of this potential casting coincidence comes another intriguing tidbit from YouTube. According to the YouTube personality, Marvel Studios is skipping the origin and angling to introduce a more experienced Fantastic Four who are a bit farther down the road in life and, in the case of Sue and Reed, have already become parents!

Though the rumor doesn’t specify, assuming Marvel Studios is following comic book canon in this regard, Sue and Reed’s first child is Franklin Richards, a character whose vast set of powers includes reality warping, matter manipulation and time travel. As an adult, Franklin was powerful enough to make Galactus his herald and lived free of the rules of the omniverse. As a child, however, as he would likely be portrayed in the film, Franklin’s powers would often manifest themselves subconsciously making him a wild card. The character played a large role in Jonathan Hickman’s companion Fantastic Four and Future Foundation series and with Hickman’s influence already being felt in the Multiverse Saga, it’s not surprising that his work may inspire Marvel Studios Fantastic Four and, potentially, Avengers: Secret Wars.

What about the Richards’ second child, Valeria? While it’s unknown just how far into their superhero careers the Fantastic Four are, the unique circumstances of Sue’s pregnancy with Valeria and Franklin’s role in saving his sister’s life–along with Dr. Doom–it would be a shame not to see it on screen. All things being equal, some exposition could fill in the blanks of Franklin’s birth and early life just fine, but Val’s story may require and deserve to unfold on screen.

  • James Gunn Shoots Down ‘Superman: Legacy’ Casting Rumors

James Gunn Shoots Down ‘Superman: Legacy’ Casting Rumors

The only thing James Gunn loves more than making movies about superheroes is shooting down online rumors about those movies. No Hollywood creative is more active online than Gunn, who can often be found responding to tweets about his projects to limit the spread of misinformation. Now the co-chair of the newly formed DC Studios, Gunn will have his hands in almost every DCU project but none more so than Superman: Legacy which he is currently writing and likely to direct. Though that movie isn’t scheduled to come out until 2025, rumors have already begun about casting for the new Man of Steel, which means Gunn was able to get involved.

The Twitter account DCU Leaks was the latest account to test Gunn and quickly found out that the director isn’t one to mess around. Two minutes after DCU Leaks stated that Luke Eisner was the front-runner for the role of Superman in the new film, Gunn shot down the rumor, calling it “false” and adding that “casting has not begun.”

    https://twitter.com/DCULeaks/status/1621681508791783426?s=20&t=aPC0b-ughfYUM7mI4UAwig

With Superman: Legacy not slated to release until July 11, 2025, there’s no reason for casting to have begun for the film. Production is unlikely to start until mid-2024, meaning casting for the project probably won’t heat up until late 2023 or early 2024. That’s not to say Gunn may not have actors in mind, but at this point, it’s clear there’s nothing to the rumors of a “front-runner” for the role.

  • ‘Thunderbolts’ Villain Rumored to Be Fueled by a Dark Entity

‘Thunderbolts’ Villain Rumored to Be Fueled by a Dark Entity

Though production in Marvel Studios Thunderbolts won’t begin for several more months, the film’s plot is starting to take shape. Credible rumors suggest that the team assembled by Julia Louis-Dreyfus‘ Valentina Allegra de Fontaine will find themselves up against one of Marvel Comics’ most powerful characters: Robert Reynolds, aka Sentry. Now, a new rumor from one of YouTube’s most popular sensationalists adds a little extra seasoning to the rumored rumble between Sentry and the Thunderbolts.

The rumor packs a pretty meaty claim about what it is that makes the Sentry such a dangerous character; if it’s accurate (and I have every reason to believe it is), Marvel Studios has chosen to go a route with the character that seemed improbable. According to the new information, Robert Reynolds will have a relationship with the malignant entity known as the Void.

In the comics, the Void is an ancient being of unspeakable evil whose origins seem to predate the reign of Pharaoh Ramses II. The entity attached itself to Sentry, slowly driving him mad and driving him to commit unimaginable atrocities. Over the years, the Void’s true nature has been reconned and added to but the reality remains that its inclusion in the MCU portends very bad things for the Thunderbolts.

Since rumors of the Sentry’s role in Thunderbolts first surfaced, fans have theorized that the team of Super Soldiers and spies probably didn’t stand much of a chance against the Superman analog. With the all-but-certain addition of a dark entity fueling Sentry’s rage, it’ll be interesting to see how the group holds up to a being with the power of a million suns who is possessed by an evil being.

Thunderbolts is tentatively slated to land in theaters on July 26, 2024.

  • A Rumored New Frontrunner Emerges in the Hunt for Mister Fantastic

A Rumored New Frontrunner Emerges in the Hunt for Mister Fantastic

As Marvel Studios continues to search for their Fantastic Four, rumors continue to swirl about a slew of talented actors and actresses who may or may not be up for the roles. Adam Driver, Ryan Gosling and Diego Luna have all been rumored to be in contention for one role or another in the film and all might make sense depending on which role and the route that director Matt Shakman has in mind for the film. Until there’s an official announcement from Marvel Studios, it’s unlikely the rumor mill will stop churning and the latest turn has a fan favorite taking the lead as a front runner for the role.

According to the anonymous source of the moderators of r/MarvelStudiosSpoilers, Academy Award nominee Dev Patel tops the list of candidates for the role of Reed Richards.

Patel, whose work in 2021’s The Green Knight drew glowing reviews, is the right age for the role (32) and fits the bill of the type of talent Marvel Studios tends to grab for franchise roles such as Mister Fantastic. Though he’s been on the radar since his role in 2008’s Slumdog Millionaire, Patel has consistently put together solid performances but has yet to take on a career-defining role. Landing the role as Reed Richards, which would presumably last at least a decade, would instantly make Patel one of the most recognized talents in film.

Marvel Studios Fantastic Four is currently slated for a February 14, 2025 theatrical debut.

  • UPDATED: New Rumor Has James Gunn Eyeing Release Date, Star for ‘Superman’

UPDATED: New Rumor Has James Gunn Eyeing Release Date, Star for ‘Superman’

    ***UPDATE***

James Gunn has responded to the rumor by indicating nobody has been cast as Superman and that casting won’t happen until the script is complete.

As the new year marches on, fans are still eagerly awaiting word from James Gunn and Peter Safran on the first wave of films forthcoming from the newly formed DC Studios. With Gunn currently writing a script for a new Superman film–one that will not feature Henry Cavill returning to the role–it’s likely that project will be among that anticipated first wave and a new rumor indicates it might be happening sooner than you’d think.

Rumor mill generator deuxmoi has shared some info on Gunn’s Superman project that’s sure to get people talking. According to the individual, Gunn is targeting a Summer 2025 release date for the new film, which he will direct. Additionally, the rumor indicates that a frontrunner may have emerged for the role of Kal-El; though deuxmoi didn’t explicitly name an actor, the hints given (Australian…Netflix romcom trilogy…HBO Max teen show) would seem to point at Jacob Elordi. Elordi, who starred in the Kissing Booth and Euphoria, has been a somewhat popular choice for the role on social media and fits the bill for Gunn’s vision of a younger Superman.

Given Gunn’s track record with addressing rumors associated with his projects, fans may know a lot more about the veracity of this one soon.

  • ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ Rumored to Put Unique Spin on Key ‘Avengers: Endgame’ Moments

‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ Rumored to Put Unique Spin on Key ‘Avengers: Endgame’ Moments

Even though it’s still over 3 years away from hitting theaters, there’s no shortage of rumors out there about the plot of Avengers: Secret Wars. With the script still under construction by Michael Waldron and no director officially on board at present, it’s best to consider any and every one of those rumors as nothing more than fun discussion points for the time being, including a new one from Heavy Spoilers that establishes an interesting parallel to the events of Avengers: Endgame.

According to the YouTuber (via Twitter), Avengers: Secret Wars will put its own spin on the time heist that was central to the plot of Avengers: Endgame. The rumor alleges that rather than traveling to “key points” in the timeline of the MCU, as in Endgame, Secret Wars will see the heroes “traveling to key universes” within the Multiverse. Should this end up being accurate, it would seem to indicate that the 2026 saga-ender will be heavily inspired by Jonathan Hickman‘s 2015 comic book event of the same name.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness gave MCU fans a taste of a few alternate Earths, including Earth-838 which introduced John Krasinski‘s Reed Richards, Anson Mount‘s Black Bolt and Patrick Stewart‘s Charles Xavier as members of the Illuminati alongside Variants of Haley Atwell‘s Peggy Carter, Chiwetel Ejiofor‘s Mordo and Lahsana Lynch‘s Maria Rambeau. Dream walking Scarlet Witch made sure there wasn’t much there to go back to, so if the rumor pans out, it’s likely Waldron is busy populating some new Earths with some interesting new characters for 2026!

Of course, the Endgame time heist was all about collecting the Infinity Stones necessary to defeat Thanos, so could bopping around the Multiverse be about putting together the Multiversal Avengers that are rumored to be a key factor in Secret Wars? If so, who could be leading the Multiversal excursion!? Again, we’re in rumor territory here, which makes for some fun speculation as we wait for some sort of official word from Marvel Studios.

  • RUMOR: Marvel Studios Chasing Academy Award-Winning Actress for Major Role in ‘Captain America: New World Order’

RUMOR: Marvel Studios Chasing Academy Award-Winning Actress for Major Role in ‘Captain America: New World Order’

Captain America: New World Order has made more than its fair share of news lately as rumors of its plot have gotten fans excited about the possibilities for the 2024 film. The plot is heavily rumored to involve the discovery of Adamantium on the corpse of Tiamut, the Celestial who had been growing inside Earth and was killed in Eternals. If that’s the case, Sam Wilson’s first theatrical outing as Captain America is shaping up to be a wild ride as it will see Sam and a group of heroes foil some sort of villainous plot to obtain the Adamantium hatched by Harrison Ford‘s Thaddeus Ross, Julia Louis-Dreyfus‘ CIA Director Valentina Allegre de Fontain and Tim Blake Nelson‘s Leader. Now, a spicy new rumor sure to be a YouTube pundit pleaser has another villain joining the fray and Marvel Studios has an Oscar-winning actress in mind for the role.

Twitter user MyTimeToShineHello claims that Jessica Chastain, who as you all remember well played the memorable villain Vuk in Simon Kinberg‘s magnum opus, Dark Phoenix, is Marvel Studios’ choice for the “main villain” of Captain America: New World Order.

This is a spicy rumor, to be sure, given that whatever character Marvel Studios allegedly wants Chastain to portray is now the third character that’s been described as the main villain of the film. If the film’s plot does indeed revolve around the discovery of Adamantium on Tiamut’s body, which resides in the Indian Ocean, the rumor that the film would have multiple heroes and villains does make sense, however, as it would stand to reason that governments around the world would want to get their hands on the precious metal for their own ends. Given Chastain’s prominence and the number of juicy roles she could be up for, this rumor is one worth keeping an eye on as production on Captain America: New World Order draws nearer.

  • Marvel Studios Reportedly Shifts Gears in Development of ‘Nova’ Project

Marvel Studios Reportedly Shifts Gears in Development of ‘Nova’ Project

Marvel Studios is developing a Nova project, of this we can be sure. Originally thought to be a steaming series written by Moon Knight’s Sabir Pirzada, online chatter of it being developed as a Special Presentation in the mold of Werewolf By Night and The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special emerged a few months ago. To make sure all the bases are covered, a new rumor has the project now being developed as a feature film.

According to MyTimeToShine, Marvel Studios is keen on bringing the adventures of the Human Rocket to the big screen.

Ultimately, it doesn’t really matter how the studio brings the character into the shared cinematic universe, only that they do. With Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 set to be the final chapter for that particular iteration of Cosmic heroes, the MCU will need a new Cosmic champion and nobody from their expansive roster of comic book characters fits the bill better than Richard Rider.

  • New Rumor Reveals the First Avengers to Fall in ‘The Kang Dynasty’

New Rumor Reveals the First Avengers to Fall in ‘The Kang Dynasty’

While Avengers: The Kang Dynasty is still years away, the film is already starting to take shape through other projects. Obviously, Loki served to set the stage for the fifth Avengers film by introducing the concept of Variants, introducing He Who Remains and opening up the Multiverse. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness added the terrifying concept of Incursions to the mix and introduced a character (America Chavez) whose unique ability to traverse the Multiverse might be useful down the road. Up next is a film that even just a few months ago, relatively few people probably had on their radar as a major player in the Multiverse Saga: Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania. The film will introduce a dangerous Variant of He Who Remains, Kang the Conqueror. This version of the character, who has been described as a warrior by both star Jonathan Majors and director Peyton Reed, is expected to be the big bad of 2025’s Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and will pose a threat not only to the heroes we know and love but also the entire Multiverse.

As the threat of Kang grows leading up to Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, one ongoing thread will likely be the idea that, at present, Earth does not have a collection of its Mightiest Heroes actively working together. In fact, Phase 4 made it pretty clear that they’re all off doing their own things. Following the events of Avengers: Endgame, in which the Avengers Compound was destroyed, there are plenty of heroes on Earth, including a lot of new ones, but so far they haven’t come face-to-face with a day unlike any other when they would find themselves united against a common threat. That day is coming, however, and when it does who will take the lead?

Thanks to a new rumor, MCU fans can have a little fun thinking things through while they wait. According to Heavy Spoilers, a trio of heroes will take the lead in what he referred to as the “first wave” of Avengers to take on Kang: Captain America, Shang-Chi and Shuri.

An interesting trio to be sure with two characters who are stepping into legacy roles and one who is both brand new and wielding a powerful set of weapons that some believe are directly tied to the Conqueror. The prevailing theory is that The Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars will play much like Infinity War and Endgame and that Earth’s Mightiest Heroes will fall and then rally. Given the unique nature of Kang’s power (which you’ll see on display in Quantumania) and the possibility that he’ll have quite an army on his side (he’s been building one in the Quantum Realm), it seems pretty likely that these characters might not fare well against the Master of Men and might well be taken off the board for a bit before returning in Secret Wars.

Who else should be among the first wave of Avengers to take on Kang? Let us know your thoughts.
