It looks like eOne’s Power Rangers reboot over at Netflix is finally picking up some speed. For quite some time now, we’ve learned that Jonathan Entwistle has been supervising a Power Rangers universe, but we never got any concrete information on where the project may or may not be heading. Now that all changed, as they’ve added their first member to the team. The Thing About Pam‘s Jenny Klein has inked a deal with Entertainment One and will act as showrunner on the Power Rangers series heading to Netflix, where she’ll work with Entwistle on the series. eOne’s EVP, Gabe Marano, shared the following statement:
Building this partnership with Jenny, whose talent and passion transcends genres, is an exciting moment for us. We believe that her distinctive vision makes her the perfect fit to help us develop Hasbro’s deep library of IP, as well as original projects, and we’re thrilled to have her on board.
Gabe Marano
There are still no details on what exactly the upcoming new take on the franchise will offer. Power Rangers is still currently airing with the Dino Fury series, which marks the 29th season since Mighty Morphin Power Rangers aired. There is likely still going to be a continuation as with Klein only joining now, they might not start production on a new series until 2023. Still, it’s exciting to finally get an update and it does seem like they are picking up the pace for the new Netflix universe based on the iconic series.
First shared by @OnePieceNxBr on Twitter, an agency site for hair and make-up artist Amanda Ross McDonald reveals she is actively working on Project Panda, the name of One Piece‘s production. What sticks out is that alongside the previous three directors, they also confirm one more is part of the team. The list reveals that Josef Kubota Wladyka may be directing episodes of the series spearheaded by Steven Maeda and MattOwens.
Wlydka has been building up quite the filmography, as he not only worked on quite a few episodes of Netflix’s iconic Narcos and Narcos: Mexico series, but also recently worked on HBO Max’s break-out hit Tokyo Vice. He’s also worked on Fear the Walking Dead and The Terror. So, he has quite a varied background that’ll definitely come in handy
It looks like the YouTuber Mr. Beast provoked Netflix enough to make their own Squid Game, as he beat them to it. While a second season for the iconic South Korean series has already been announced, they have announced that they are also creating a new reality series titled Squid Game: The Challenge. 456 players are going to play the iconic games from the series for prize money of 4.56 million. Yes, they are replicating the show with an open casting call for anyone interested in attempting it.
Of course, Netflix isn’t going to kill off contestants but it’s certainly a curious choice to replicate a game show that showcases rich people enjoying the desperation of people trying to win money to cover their depths. Now, they are producing their own Squid Game, a game of people desperately trying to win money while people watch it from home. While it’s no surprise they’d try to bank on the success of the concept, it does seem a bit curious to replicate the show’s concept in real life given its themes.
We’ll see just how they tackle the project and if they will closely follow the Korean-based games or add more western additions. They’ll definitely include Red Light, Green Light as well as the iconic candy shape game. Still, it’s a very bizarre choice to make this a reality, and kind of how undermines the principle of the original show. We’ll see if they will truly pull through with this project or what direction it potentially takes given the underlying concept.
While Fezzy sadly didn’t make this week’s recording, Joe and Suki are keeping you covered on all things One Piece that has transpired, such as the big showcase during Geeked Week, and new castings for the live-action Netflix series, recapping chapters 1050 and 1051. It’s an episode that shouldn’t be missed out on.
Guillermo del Toro‘s upcoming Pinocchio has been a passion project for the director for years. He’s been trying to get it made for a while and now has found a home with Netflix that is willing to let his artistic venture come to life. The stop-motion storyline from the director of Labyrinth and Hellboy promises something special, and in a new piece by Vanity Fair, he gets to talk about how he’s approaching a more gothic take of the tale.
I’ve always been very intrigued by the links between Pinocchio and Frankenstein,” del Toro tells Vanity Fair for this exclusive first look. “They are both about a child that is thrown into the world. They are both created by a father who then expects them to figure out what’s good, what’s bad, the ethics, the morals, love, life, and essentials, on their own. I think that was, for me, childhood. You had to figure it out with your very limited experience
One thing that intrigued the director was the similarities between the living puppet and the iconic Frankenstein story, as a doctor brings his creation to life.
I’ve always been very intrigued by the links between Pinocchio and Frankenstein. They are both about a child that is thrown into the world. They are both created by a father who then expects them to figure out what’s good, what’s bad, the ethics, the morals, love, life, and essentials, on their own. I think that was, for me, childhood. You had to figure it out with your very limited experience.
Guillermo Del Toro
The upcoming film will delve into that kind of ethics a bit, but he promises it’ll still be child-friendly, he simply believes “these are times that demand from kids a complexity that is tremendous. Far more daunting, I think, than when I was a child.”
He’s working on the project alongside Mark Gustafson, who many might know as the animation director for Wes Anderson‘s Fantastic Mr. Fox. Though, there is a deliberate choice to tell the story of a wooden boy coming to life while everyone else is made of stop motion puppets, which also makes it stand out from other adaptations, especially Robert Zemeckis‘s live-action version for Disney.
Gregory Mann will take on the voice of Pinocchio, who is a cheerful fellow but has a sad backstory. He’s actually carved out of the tree that grew over the grave of Gepetto’s son. the heartbroken man will be voiced by David Bradley, who gets a second chance at being a father. Ewan McGregor is also set to join as the purple cricket, Sebastian J. Cricket, who made a home out of Pinocchio’s trunk.
The big departure will be that there are no longer other mystical beings outside of the young boy being brought to life from wood. So, don’t expect the talking animals or donkey transformations from the original storyline. He also generally took a different direction with the villain
I didn’t want magical creatures other than the wood spirit that gives him life, and Pinocchio himself,” del Toro says. “I didn’t want a talking fox and a talking cat and the magic of transforming him into a donkey. I wanted everything else to feel as close as we can to the real world. The three main villains in the original story are the cat, the fox, and the puppeteer, and we wanted to fuse them into one
Guillermo del Toro
As with any del Toro film, Ron Perman is also joining the production as a new addition to the story. he’ll play an authoritarian trying to recruit the wooden boy as a soldier, which moves away from Pleasure Island. He also teases many more changes to iconic characters to make this story truly its own take on a magical creature in a real and dark world.
It definitely sounds like he is taking a different direction and the concept art that was revealed some time ago promises a dark storyline that will surely be among the director’s best. He’s always had a way of telling stories of people that stand out from the rest and it seems the theme will remain in the upcoming Pinocchio film heading to Netflix.
Official news has begun to arrive for the upcoming Knives Out sequel, which will be releasing exclusively on Netflix. In a thread of tweets from director Rian Johnson, the full title for the film has been revealed as Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery. The tweet also confirms a “holiday season” release for the highly anticipated sequel. Netflix officially made the purchase for the sequel film rights in 2021 for $469 million dollars. This includes Glass Onion and an additional film in the Knives Out franchise down the road.

Daniel Craig is set to reprise his role of detective Benoit Blanc and will be joined by all new all-star cast likely full of prospective suspects. Edward Norton, Janelle Monae, Kathryn Hahn, Leslie Odom Jr, Jessica Henwick, Madelyn Cline, Kate Hudson, and Dave Bautista fill out the ensemble for the sequel. Not much is currently known about the plot, nor the nature of its mystery; however, in his Twitter thread, Johnson discussed how Agatha Christie mysteries served as an inspiration, specifically her ability to provide great variance in the types of mystery stories she told. This is certainly interesting as it means the original film might not provide much of a sense of what to expect from Glass Onion. Set photos showed the film will be at least partially set in the Mediterranean so that at least will greatly differ from the chilled New England autumn aesthetic of Knives Out filled with the sweaters of Chris Evans. It will certainly be interesting to learn more information on what is in store for Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery in the coming months heading towards its release later this year.
Uma Thurman and Henry Golding are joining the cast of The Old Guard 2.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Thurman and Golding will join returning cast members Charlize Theron, KiKiLayne, Matthias Schoenaerts, Marwan Kenzari, Luca Marinelli, Veronica Ngo and Chiwetel Ejiofor. The Old Guard 2 is based on the comic book series by Greg Rucka and Leandro Fernandez, which tells the story of a group of immoral warriors led by Andy (Theron) who meet a new one of their kind, Nile (Layne), as they soon find themselves suffering from repercussions from their centuries-old way of life in the modern age.
Rucka penned the script for The Old Guard 2, which will be focusing on the second arc of the comic books. Directing this installment will be Victoria Mahoney who made headlines as the first second unit director on a Star Wars film with Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. She takes over for Gina Prince-Bythewood, who had to exit the sequel due to other commitments.
The Old Guard first hit Netflix on July 10th, 2020. Since its initial release, the film has remained one of the most-watched original films on the streaming service with 186 million hours watched within its first 28 days of release.
Thurman, who is best known for the Kill Bill films, is coming off the recently released Disney+ movie Hollywood Stargirl. While Crazy Rich Asians breakout, Golding, most recently toplined Snake Eyes and wrapped filming on Assassin Club, while also recently lending his voice to Star Wars: Visions.
As of this writing, there is no release date set for The Old Guard 2 on Netflix.
It looks like after the bad reception of the Junji Ito Collection, Netflix is trying its hand at bringing the famed horror mangaka’s visions to life in a new anime series. While the preview only gives us a slight look at some concept art drawn by Ito himself, they haven’t offered much on how they’ll bring the series to life outside of multiple series planned to get added over time which are eyeing a 2023 release.
So far, they have confirmed that the three parts will be released: Tomie, Soichi, and the Hanging Blimp shorts. The series will be titled Junji Ito MANIAC and it’s kind of great to have an additional statement made by the creator himself. It should be noted that Cartoon Network is also actively developing an adaptation of his iconic horror manga, Uzumaki.
We’ve got a first look at some new anime series heading to Netflix. They’ve been busy working with some talented animation artist in the industry to bring some iconic new series to life, such as Exception. A new sci-fi series where people explore the galaxy to find a new home to terraform.

That#s not all, as there’s also a new project from Wit Studio titled Moonrise, which will very likely bring us some beautiful animations as they did with Bubble and Attack on Titan.

Last but not least, it looks like Netflix is actively working on a The Seven Deadly Sins spinoff that’ll explore the story of Tristan, Meliodas’ son in a new two-part film series.

It looks like Masters of the Universe is back but will now get a new title. The series will continue exactly where the last one left off, but will now be titled Masters of the Universe: Revolution and no longer Revelation. While they won’t give away any details, we did get at least a tease with a new visual hinting at where it’s heading. the ending also set up a sequel which will likely where the story picks up.
