RUMOR: Early ‘The Flash’ Test Screenings May Hint at Henry Cavill’s Future as Superman

There have been many discussions on what the future has in store for the DC Extended Universe, most notably Henry Cavill‘s time as Superman. As he seemingly is building up one new franchise after another, it sadly didn’t help matter son if we might see him return. The upcoming multiverse film The Flash seemingly hinted at a connection between him and Sasha Calle’s Supergirl with her new design, but it seemed safe to say they’d reboot the franchise with the event.

Sadly, the upcoming project might be the final nail in the coffin for Cavill‘s tenure as the Man of Steel. Even though his run as the character back in 2013 set up the current version of the DCEU, a recent test screening of The Flash may have given us more details. Geeks Worldwide’s KC Walsh shared that the recent screening has hhighlighted that he is done with the franchise. Yet, as he points out, there’s always the possibility it might change but given how little involved he’s been with any of the projects, it seems likely.

The latest Superman film that is in development was going to move away from Clark Kent to focus on Val Zod. We’ve also gotten rumors making the rounds that Supergirl and Batgirl would become part of the DCEU’s new trinity as the franchise continues to expand. Ben Affleck has openly left his role as Batman behind with Michael Keaton returning in The Flash and Robert Pattinson playing him in a separate universe for The Batman. So, it sadly isn’t really that much of a surprise that Cavill is also done as he focuses on his various Netflix projects.

  • ‘The Flash’, ‘Superman and Lois’, ‘Riverdale’ and More Get Renewal by CW

‘The Flash’, ‘Superman and Lois’, ‘Riverdale’ and More Get Renewal by CW

The CW has always been known for renewing its scripted programs early. While we didn’t get the usual January confirmation, as the current climate things have changed a bit and it seemed like it may not be the one to lead the charge. Luckily, it looks like that tradition continues as the broadcast has renewed not one but seven of its scripted series. Deadline has revealed that they’ve given a new season order to their two DC series The Flash, as well as Superman and Lois. The ever-chaotic Riverdale is also set to make a return alongside All American, Nancy Drew, Kung Fu, and Walker.

While the early renewals are a good sign, there have generally been discussions for the CW’s future. Nexstar, an affiliate group, is potentially eyeing the broadcast network and a new majority owner would change the renewal process as well as how streaming rights help boost its revenue stream. There are also quite a few series still on the bubble missing a renewal, such as the newly released Naomi, Legends of Tomorrow, Charmed, Batwoman, and more.

The Flash is entering its ninth season and is now the longest-running series beating out Arrow which ended on its eighth. There’s no word if this might be the final season, or they might want to go for a nice round 10 seasons to end its run. Superman and Lois will return for its third season. Riverdale will join with its seventh season, but also uncertain if it’ll continue afterward. The biggest surprise with Nancy Drew, which was on the bubble even with a spinoff on the horizon.

  • ‘The Flash’ and ‘Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom’ Won’t Release Until 2023

‘The Flash’ and ‘Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom’ Won’t Release Until 2023

Not too long ago, we learned that DC has pushed a few of its films back. Black Adam and League of Super-Pets are pushing into the second half of the year, but sadly it seems that The Flash and Aquaman: The Lost Kingdom won’t release until 2023. On the flip side, Shazam: Fury of the Gods has taken the Aquaman sequel’s December slot going up against Avatar‘s long-awaited sequel. The Hollywood Reporter’s Aaron Couch was nice enough o share the overview of the new release window, which also includes Wonka and Meg 2.

It’s a bit depressing that The Flash is getting postponed by almost an entire year again. The film promised some massive changes to the DCEU, but its release also strongly affects projects like Batgirl, which will tie directly into it with the confirmed return of Michael Keaton. Who knows what other DC projects are getting delayed as a result due to this massive shift in their release schedule.

Still, Shazam making its way to December makes a lot of sense. Avatar’s sequel has been open about its aquatic direction, and it’s a clever way by Warner Bros. to avoid any Aquaman comparisons. Plus, Shazam: Fury of the Gods may also reach an audience that the sequel won’t and the bite out of its box office might be quite a bit smaller.

  • New ‘The Flash’ Stunt Crew Shirt May Tease Movie’s Villain

New ‘The Flash’ Stunt Crew Shirt May Tease Movie’s Villain

Possibly one of the more interesting films this year is the first solo outing of The Flash. It’s crazy to think he still hasn’t gotten his own film after countless appearances throughout the DC Extended Universe. We don’t know a lot about the film officially but there have been countless rumors since it started production. The biggest question still remains who Barry Allen will face in the upcoming film, but it seems a crew wrap gift could hint at just who that could be.

A member of the stunt crew from The Flash recently revealed the wrap gifts the crew members got and it features an interesting detail. Alongside Supergirl and Batman, you can clearly see the silhouette of the Flash. Yet, what makes this a bit of a head-scratcher is that the character is sporting a red lightning bolt with black tendrils crawling on his body. Their design seems to match what we saw from the Negative Flash, an incarnation of Barry Allen that recently appeared after being stuck in the Negative Speed Force.

A while back, it was reported by The Direct that Barry Allen might face a darker version of himself in the film. We would later see photos of Ezra Miller filming on set with someone who would turn out to be a stand-in to play a second Barry Allen. He’s seen wearing a Flash painted Batsuit in the teaser from DC FanDome. It seems possible that maybe this Flash could be the one to turn into Negative Flash after accidentally tapping into the Negative Speed Force.

The Flash is set to hit theaters on November 4th, 2022, and will star Ezra Miller with the film being directed by Andy Muschietti.

  • DC Celebrates Lunar New Year With New Posters for ‘The Batman’, ‘The Flash’, And More

DC Celebrates Lunar New Year With New Posters for ‘The Batman’, ‘The Flash’, And More

The new Lunar New Year has arrived and DC released a set of new posters to celebrate the occasion, which includes all their upcoming projects from The Batman to League of Superpets. It includes the fan-favorite heroes with some added fun spin to celebrate the new occasion. The first poster includes the upcoming release of The Batman with Robert Pattinson throwing coins instead of his classic Batarangs.

There’s also a poster for Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom with the ruler of Atlantis surrounded by koi.

    Aquaman 2 Poster

Barry Allen is known for eating as much as he can due to all the calories he burns while running at superspeed. So, The Flash poster is fittingly featuring Allen with some snacks.

    The Flash, The Flash logo

Dwayne Johnson is ready for a celebration in the new poster, which is curiously the most detached from the upcoming film’s design. Or, he might have hair at some point in the story.

    Black Adam, Black Adam logo

Last, but not least, is the League of Superpets featuring Krypto. It’s curious that it only includes him and not the rest of the cast, but the trailer has been highlighting

    Krypto

The posters are great, and it seems like a yearly tradition to celebrate the Lunar New Year with a set of new posters. We’ve seen Marvel Studios do something similar last year for Eternals and Black Widow. The integration of traditional Chinese elements is a nice touch.

  • 3-Issue ‘The Flash’ Prelude Comic to Release Ahead of Film’s November Premiere

3-Issue ‘The Flash’ Prelude Comic to Release Ahead of Film’s November Premiere

It’s going to be a big year for the DC Extended Universe, as there are quite a few projects in some form of development. Among them is the multiversal storyline of The Flash, which may rewrite the DCEU as we know it. Ezra Miller is set to return in the titular role, as he meets up with a new yet familiar face in the form of Michael Keaton‘s Bruce Wayne. We still know very little about the film’s plot, but it seems we might get some new information as of April in the form of a prelude comic series.

Writer Kenny Porter and artist Ricardo López Ortiz will tackle a three-issue comic series that’ll release monthly. The series titled The Flash: The Fastest Man Alive will tell the story of his conflict with a villain named Girder. He ends up learning how to take on this threat under the watchful eye of the Dark Knight, as he tries to face the metallic threat.

The first issue will release on April 26th and consists of 48 pages. The collection of all three issues will be made available in October ahead of the film’s release in November. The main cover will be drawn by Max Fiumara with a variant cover by the film’s director, Andy Muschietti. Juan Ferreyra will prepare the cover for the second entry and the final issue will be by Jason Howard in July.

  • RUMOR: Supergirl and Batgirl May Become Part of the DCEU’s New Trinity

RUMOR: Supergirl and Batgirl May Become Part of the DCEU’s New Trinity

Two of the biggest mysteries in the past few years have been the future of Batman and Superman in the DC Extended Universe. The characters are pillars of the comics alongside Wonder Woman and, most frequently, Harley Quinn, but their future live-action appearances within the DCEU seem to be ending a bit sooner than many had hoped.

Henry Cavill and Ben Affleck were reportedly set to leave their roles a few years ago, but since then things have gotten a bit foggy. MyTimeToShine, who has been on a DC hot streak as of late, is now reporting that both characters will effectively be wiped from canon in the DCEU. Yet, the big development lies in the fact that they already have characters ready to take over their original roles in the new canon.

Supergirl and Batgirl are set to make their DCEU debut this year with Sasha Calle aiding Barry in The Flash. Leslie Grace’s Batgirl will presumably take place in the post-Flash universe, with Michael Keaton set to play Batman in the film. Calle and Grace will reportedly take over as the main universe “Super” and “Bat” representatives, as the DCEU heads in an interesting new direction with its characters.

This news will surely confuse and upset many fans, but it’s best to keep an open mind as these are still purely rumors and we haven’t seen a finished project just yet. If these rumors are indeed true, it would mean Calle and Grace would join Gal Gadot in the new DCEU trinity. Along with being a member of the trinity, it seems likely that Leslie Grace could also join the Justice League, which is rumored to get a revival in The Flash. Whatever happens, we have a lot to look forward to.

  • RUMOR: ‘The Flash’ Might Set Up a New Justice League

RUMOR: ‘The Flash’ Might Set Up a New Justice League

The Justice League can be considered the crown jewel of the DC Universe, where some of its greatest and most popular characters brought together as its definitive team. In live-action, however, they’ve struggled making that a reality. 2017’s Justice League was a testament to that struggle, and it’s been a long road until we got Zack Snyder’s Justice League. With so much up in the air, fans are wondering just when and where we might see the team return again to the big screen, and if rumors are to be believed, The Flash may have the answers.

Take this as a spoiler warning, while it is still a rumor, it may give away important plot details of the upcoming The Flash film. So, only continue at your own risk.

Leaker MyTimeToShine recently took a quick break from sharing info on Marvel Studio’s projects to dish out some info on the upcoming The Flash film, and gave away how it’ll reinstate the popular superhero team into the universe after it was left open-ended since the initial release of the Justice League film.

As such, we may expect an all-new Justice League once the film ends its runtime. With the events of the previous films, most noticeably any Snyderverse entry, supposedly erased from the timeline, this would mean the team never came together to fight Steppenwolf and Barry would be the only one with knowledge of that battle. Here in this new universe, Barry will reportedly bring together a team with the first members being Supergirl and Shazam. Geeks Worldwide’s KC Walsh further backed up these claims:

    https://twitter.com/TheComixKid/status/1477348535876026369?s=20

It’s still unclear just who the rest of the roster will be but it seems likely that both Aquaman and Wonder Woman will most likely return. It’ll be interesting to see if this is a “first time” for these characters or they also will remember being part of a previous iteration of the Justice League. We’ll see what this means for the future of the DCEU

  • RUMOR: ‘The Flash’ May Soft-Reboot the DCEU and “Erase” The Snyderverse

RUMOR: ‘The Flash’ May Soft-Reboot the DCEU and “Erase” The Snyderverse

Continuity in the DC extended universe has been a bit loose these past few years with a lot of factors up in the air. It’s been tough for many fans who just wanted solid answers on the future of beloved characters like Batman and Superman, two pillars of the franchise throughout many mediums. We’ve known for a while now that Affleck was basically out the door, and Henry Cavill’s future is still very much up in the air. Some recent reports seem to point us in the direction of where the DCEU will be heading and the future of the extended universe.

MyTimeToShine, who made a name for themselves with stories based off of Marvel Studios’ upcoming projects, recently shared some details on The Flash, and just what effects the film will have on the shared universe. By the sounds of it, it’s not going to be good for long-time fans of Zack Snyder‘s additions to the franchise, who was the person that initially kicked off the new rendition of the franchise.

As such, The Flash may effectively “erase” the events of Man of Steel, Batman Vs Superman, and Justice League. Along with the films, Flash would also be erasing both Affleck and Cavill from the DCEU timeline entirely with the return of Michael Keaton cementing him as the new Bruce Wayne. Of course, it’s uncertain how the film will accomplish this and with the multiverse, it may simply end up redefining the mainline timeline like in DC’s famous Crisis events.

This news, if it pans out, will undoubtedly upset many fans as the films made by Zack Snyder that started it all are quite beloved by parts of the fandom. Cavill also never really got his dues, and didn’t get another chance to prove that he could be the definitive live-action Superman that many fans knew he had the potential to be, but the actor still stays booked and busy.

  • Michael Shannon Joins The Cast of ‘The Flash’

Michael Shannon Joins The Cast of ‘The Flash’

The MCU’s multiverse blew up this year thanks to Loki, What If…?, Spider-Man: No Way Home, and soon, the DCEU will follow suit with The Flash. While characters like Supergirl and Michael Keaton‘s Batman are expected to return, one particular villain is set to make an unexpected appearance as well. The official Warner Bros. listing of the film has Michael Shannon as one of its cast members. This likely means we’ll be seeing more of General Zod.

Zod won’t be the only evil Kryptonian making a return as Faora-Ul, played by Ante Traue, is listed next to Shannon as well. Their return bodes for some interesting problems Ezra Miller‘s Barry Allen will have to face. Perhaps we could see a variation of the events of Man of Steel, through the eyes of a time-traveling Barry Allen. Maybe there’s an Earth where Zod and his army successfully terraform our planet.
